Reviews for The Chanler at Cliff Walk

Review 1:Although this was not an issue for us, it may be for others. Our room was on the third floor, requiring us to climb stairs going and coming.

Review 2:The hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking the Cliff Walk, is well-maintained and has friendly and attentive staff members. When you wish to venture beyond the manicured grounds, complimentary car service is available to take you to and from other venues within Newport.

Review 3:Constant weddings! We could not have our anniversary dinner outside on Friday because of a wedding, and the next day was the same. (The food was OUTSTANDING regardless. Worth the price for the experience with both the food and the staff.) Whenever we tried to enjoy the grounds, we got chased out by wedding photographers. I did not feel welcome to use the fire pit or outside seating because of the photo sessions, ceremonies, and afterparties. Any time we did not have plans elsewhere, we were basically trapped in our room. Even breakfast on Sunday was with the view of set up for the next wedding. We were completely respectful of the couples, but this already married couple also paid for the pleasure of the Chanler: room, grounds, and all. I feel like this is a place where you either command all the attention of the staff and facility, or that the magic is gone and you just don't care to do anything besides sleep in a fancy room, and be somewhere else most of your time.

Review 4:Staff went above and beyond in hospitality skills. They were a pleasure to speak to and knowledgeable about the area. They were always at our beck and call, even though that is normally not our style. (We're more the Hawaii type - laid back, fun, active and also relaxed, not worried about social graces.) The room was clean, beautiful, and amusing. We were given the Gothic/"Harry Potter" room, which was beautiful even without an ocean view. The in-room tub was excellent, and reinforced our desire to remodel our own bedroom bath with a soaking tub! The hair dryer was broken and was not replaced after I alerted them to the problem, unfortunately. The Spiced Pear restaurant offered some of the best food we have eaten, with a friendly and fun staff to boot. A great experience for our anniversary. We enjoyed our stay and would come back again, even with the downsides.

Review 5:The rooms are a bit small from what I imagined - may be limited by the way how the old house was built. Breakfast not up to the standard of the dinner.

Review 6:Wow, what a location and easy access to the Cliff Walk.

Review 7:No blackout shades. Which are insane not to have at a hotel this expensive. Also, they didn't turn off the alarm that the previous guest set so we were woken up at 6:00AM and then couldn't go back to sleep because the room was too bright.

Review 8:location, staff, free ride service into town

Review 9:Small room for the price with no bath in bathroom. No view as had to keep blind down on door. Bed very creaky. They did not tell us that there was a function on that night and the bar and restaurant were closed to guests.

Review 10:Staff were great and the drop off and pick up service is excellent

Review 11:The staff were excellent. There was nothing that they would not do for you. Always warmly greeted you by name and remembered what you had planned on doing and asked about it

Review 12:Nothing.

Review 13:Service was awesome. Everybody was very nice and accommodating. Exceptional service. The restaurant is terrific with excellent food. Location on cliff walk with views of beach and ocean were breathtaking.

Review 14:i would have like some interaction with the kitchen staff since I was alone in the dining room and i could see into the kitchen.

Review 15:The staff was very friendly.

Review 16:The moment we arrived, we received a glass of champagne and were invited to relax in the Adirondack chairs to unwind, sip, and enjoy the magnificent view of the Atlantic. The room was like stepping back in history. The car service to and from all desired locations was an unexpected treat. Thank you for a most memorable experience!

Review 17:The room was described on Booking.com's website as having a terrace overlooking the ocean. When we got to the hotel, we discovered that the room did not have a terrace. We likely would have booked the room anyway, but the description details should be accurate on the website.

Review 18:We dined 3 times in the restaurant during our stay and for each of this time, we had to ask staff to change cutlery that was dirty. We were shocked by this as clearly it wasn't a one-off incident and certainly did not befit the standard of a luxury hotel. The staff in the restaurant also seem to be rather absent minded and have to be reminded of orders and requests.

Review 19:The view out to sea and the car service into town

Review 20:I arrived att the chanler and my reservation through booking .com beverwent through. It was vlearly boookng .com and there oversite inconfriming the reservation with the chanler. Good thing there wasavailability there.

Review 21:Wedding on-site, noisy and limited eating choices. Did not think the Spiced Pear restaurant was wonderful. Food was good but the open kitchen concept was very distracting, could hear every conversation there. Not the romantic dinner I had hoped for for our 32nd wedding anniversary.

Review 22:Location and point to point car sevice. Rooms were charming, beds were comfortable and the staff was accommodating.

Review 23:Restaurant staff were poor. At breakfast on one of the mornings the waiter didn't know what a 'dessert spoon'' was!! He gave me a teaspoon to eat my cereal with and when I asked for a different spoon he was very surly and rude. Also they didn't have an 'egg cup' for boiled eggs, and again when mentioned the result was the same. Also for America the portions were very mean, 1 slice of toast for breakfast, I have travelled all over the world and this was without doubt the meanest breakfast ever.

Review 24:Front of house staff were very helpful when we needed to change our room.

Review 25:Everything was perfect

Review 26:Loved the ocean view from my room. The Cliff Walk begins at this location, the walk was breath taking.

Review 27:Nothing

Review 29:A little pricey but you get what you pay for I guess!

Review 30:The view and the food at the spiced pear was amazing!

Review 31:The dining room hostess and breakfast staff were inattentive.

Review 32:Front of houuse staff, particularly the front desk, bell and bar staff were excellent

Review 33:Room is a bit small, but really nice!

Review 34:Room decor & amenities. Great staff

Review 35:The staff was extremely friendly, and the inn is beautiful inside and out, and very well maintained.

Review 36:The deck, our room, the courteous staff, and the shuttle service to and from town at a moments notice.

Review 37:The friendly staff

Review 38:Truly a unique and wonderful experience. The location of the hotel is ideal since it is on the Cliff Walk and within a couple of miles of the mansion district. It's not far from other locations in Newport either. The rooms each have their own theme. My girlfriend and I were in the Gothic room, and it was quite awesome! If you're not into a Gothic theme, there were many other types to choose from as well. Service was impeccable, and everyone on the staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a small problem with the lock on our bathroom door, and it was promptly fixed for us at 11:00pm, with a bottle of champagne sent to our room the next day to apologize for the inconvenience. Wow! Great place for couples and weekend getaways.

Review 39:cannot think of anything~

Review 40:the ambiance, decor, waitstaff, and food were all excellent! price point is very good for the surroundings and what what you get

Review 41:Breakfast waitstaff could use an espresso or two ;)

Review 42:Loved our brief stay at a The Chanler! Romantic, beautiful, comfy...perfect location as well. We will be back for sure.

Review 43:Booking.com said the Room did have a balcony , and this was one of the main reasons we booked the room however it did not - big let down ! The Chanler was gracious and adjusted our room price. I will investigate booking.com info in the future

Review 44:At 2200 we were told they were turning off the lights and we would have to vacate the terrace - paying £450 a night! The next day the staff obviously did not intend to do anything with our complaint.

Review 45:Fantastic location right on the Cliff Walk. Beautiful building and rooms. Free limo service to local area very useful

Review 46:Restaurant was closed to guests on friday. Not even access to bar or theability to get a drink or food. Never told of this prior to stay. Veryfrustrating!

Review 47:Location/staff

Review 48:The service at breakfast was not as good, there was only one waitressfor all the the tables, and there was no buffet, service was a la carte. We patiently waited for our turn, but when we saw a table of four peoplethat arrived after us been served before, we left without eating.

Review 49:The hotel is really beautiful and luxurious. The restaurant is amazing, service at dinner and the food were perfect.

Review 50:Had a great stay, the dinner was execllent. The staff was great would recommend to friends and will be back!

Review 51:Being asked at 9:45pm if we had tv's in our room by the hostess, I guess they wanted to close the bar.

Review 52:Room

Review 53:Room very cramped. Beautifully decorated. Loved the gas fireplace. No bath tub.

Review 54:Lovely location, excellent imaginative chef.
