Reviews for Sam's House Kanchanaburi
Review 1:Would be a great place but needs some maintenance No card accepted during our stay even booking.com told us so
Review 2:The animals in the swamp Location is good
Review 3:Broken toilet seat, terrible shower, TV not tuned ( got fixed after owner return from night out), loud frogs croaking all night.
Review 4:Walking distance to the railway bridge, close to bike hire, car hire (driver inc) cha Ching $, laundry service. Good air-con.
Review 5:All in the back of the lot, there's no contact with the river whatsoever since almost no space is left between all the available rooms ... the staff will help you ... if you insist ... at least twice - and the answer will not give you the feeling to ask another question.
Review 6:Big room, goed A.C.
Review 7:No safe box in the room. The blanket is too home style. I prefer white cotton sheets.
Review 8:Strong and free wifi in the room. Location good. There is space to move about outside the room so I don't feel so confine.
Review 9:This place is really not great! Staff are quite aloof and don't particularly go to any effort to welcome you. Room is extremely disappointing-we had the standard bungalow-it is a dark wooden bungalow on stilts that has seen better days-wood is ageing, small holes in floor, beds are old and mattress collapsing! Room was clean but felt dirty as it is all so old and run down! I can imagine that this place was beautiful a long time ago but it is now well past it!
Review 10:Good location-lots of restaurants, 15minute walk to bridge, 10minute walk to death railway museum & cemetery.
Review 11:The location of the guesthouse is perfect! There is a shop when you can rent a scooter 1 min from the guesthouse The owner is very nice and her daughter is so cute!!!
Review 12:Hot water did not work
Review 13:We had one of the riverfront bungalows and we found it amazing. It was so relaxing, the A/C worked great, we had no problem with any mosquitos. The River Kwai bridge is walking distance (if you are the active type) and there is many eating options available nearby. We had arrived from Bangkok early and wanted to store our luggage during the day until we could check in and they let us check in then and there!
Review 14:The frogs were rather loud and the airconditioning reverbrates through the entire apartment (Sky 6)
Review 15:The breakfast was decent, we were generally greeted with smiles. Walking distance to dinner places and bars, but far away enough not to be noisy.
Review 16:The location by the river, near 7/11. local restaurants and motorbike rent agencies. Nice huts with airconditioner and TV Surrounding area is great with a riverview. The staff is very friendly and local people are very nice
Review 17:The lady behind the desk was very unfriendly and very unwilling to help. When I arrived, she was on the phone and didn't want to cut her converation short to do the check in with me. In stead, she continued her conversation while trying to do the check in on a whispering tone. When I asked her questions later her answer was 'maybe' and then almost wanted to walk off again. Having an off day is okay and can happen to anyone, but she was like that to me and other guests for the 3 days I stayed there.
Review 18:The bungalows were cute and made the area very cosy. The interior is a bit tacky but I liked it. Especially for the price I don't think you can expect all the facilities to be in a perfect condition. Everything worked fine. Wifi connection really depends on the location of your bungalow.
Review 19:Load unidentifiable noises at night, possibly a blender? Kept waking us uo
Review 20:Location was good, central to local amenities and within walking distance of bus station (20mins)
Review 21:The lady who works there is so helpful and so friendly! She helped organise everything for us. It has a very relaxed feel to it and is also in a great location.
Review 22:Was so close to the main hub of kanchanaburi, right in meanam Kwai rd! The bed was really comfy and the whole are it was in had a really nice feel. Right in the river Kwai, and the bungalow we stayed in was actually on stilts sitting in the river! Really nice scenery, the staff was very friendly and helpful and it was nice and cheap.
Review 23:Wifi connection is pretty bad. Toilet is not that clean, especially the mirror. I banged my head at the wall (or the roof) all the time (I'm 165 cm tall). I don't know where to hang my clothes.
Review 24:The staffs may not talk a lot but they are friendly. The hotel is closed to 7-eleven and other restaurants. I tried walking from there to the bridge and it's quite far but it will be 20~30 thb if you call a taxi/motorbike.
Review 25:I think this is my fourth stay at Sam's House and I feel the place is a great hotel for those who are on a budget. Splash out for a Superior Bungalow on the river.
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:There is only one outlet available in the room , so if you wanna charge your phone you need to unplug the TV so that you can charge and there is not even small closet for the clothes and anything that we need to keep in. The bed is not too comfortable-it is bit hard even if with mattress.
Review 28:Very accommodating staff and can speak and understand English. The location is okay!
Review 29:The lady working the front desk with the short hair was wonderful. You can use their kayak to explore the river next door for free but they don't advertise it for some reason. You get what you pay for, the room we stayed in that looks like a snow lodge was a bit cozy since the roof comes down on both sides at quite an embracing angle.
Review 30:Beds. Bad unclean linen. Water was not turned in when we checked in. Unclear TV connection. Smell from the water where the bungalows stand. I found a caterpillar on the towel they provided.
Review 31:I would say only the location. Its in thr area with all the restaurants and pubs.
Review 32:The only downside was the bed, very hard. My girlfriend didn't like how many insects there were, but it is expected considering where it is so didn't bother me too much.
Review 33:Loved that it was situated on the river, very picturesque. The owners were very nice, me and my partner sat up till 2am chatting with them and they gave us many good tips for travelling around Thailand.
Review 34:I booked room including breakfast they dont have breakfast. Booking.com should check but I did not expect also for this price.
Review 35:I like the location and the inveronment around this hotel, For this price is reasonable.
Review 36:Staff wasn't really friendly. On the pictures you see cute little houses. Then we got our room and it was an old stinky room. Old sheets. AC made a lot of noise and the wifi doesn't make it until the rooms.
Review 37:The cheapest hut had a very loud air conditioner and was a bit dirty with poor towels.
Review 38:Tried a night in the cheapest hut but immediately moved to one of the riverside chalets - 300 baht more but so worth it. Gorgeous location, lovely but, comfortable bed, nice breakfast. Friendly staff, peaceful, lovely birdsong in the morning. Great location near restaurants and bars and a short taxi to the famed bridge.
Review 39:That I got charged twice. I payed with booking.com before we travelled and then the hotel charged me again. I didn't have the paperwork on me so she would give the room unless I payed again.
Review 40:Location and unique setting
Review 41:Location is too "touristic", with parties, whores etc. Also, bus station is far (you need it to get to e.g. Erawan or Tiger Temple).
Review 42:Location is close to train station, death railway and WWII museums. You can choose from standard rooms and bungalows. The hotel is at the shore, so beware of mosquitoes.
Review 43:I would personally changed tvs to fridges in the huts, lack of hair dryer doesn't matter really as the hot outside makes hair dry in a minute.
Review 44:Huts as described on the profile, small but comfortable for 1-2 nights, close to main street (which leads to famous bridge on Kwai River) with restaurants, bars, etc. but still far enough to have quite during day and night.
Review 45:The bed was smelling funny, bathroom was in need of repair. Breakfast was served with a big frown. Coffee was horrible.
Review 46:Beautiful location, cute cabins and a very big new fridge. Very handy laundry shop opposide to the entrance. 20 Bath a kilo
Review 47:I paid thb 1800 for 3 nights plus thb 200 for key deposit. I did not understand this thb 200 deposit and so when I left I just gave the key and the deposit slip to the house maid. Lucky her
Review 48:A bloke using trimmings from the trees to replace the railings on the patios Magic Separate walkways to each cabin over the river. Eazy walk to the Bridge on the River Kwai.
Review 49:The WiFi that was supposed to work near our room (we were too far from the lobby to pick up that signal) did not, despite resetting the router. Our tablets said the password was incorrect, but they insisted it was the same as the one in the common area. Oh well, in the common area it worked well.
Review 50:Great location within walking distance of the train station and just off the main restaurant/bar street, but itself a quiet area. Though our little cabin was above a sort of swamp, we had almost no bug troubles, and though dated the room was clean and the A/C worked well. Beds were fine.
Review 51:Bathtub, no shower... had to turn off ac and all lights to use hot water heater... staff did not clean after first night ... have to pay for coffee no free water for teeth brushing... sink to wash hands outside .. think through this a bit... bathtub water dumps directly into the lagoon.. not eco friendly
Review 52:quiet , lots of birds, everything within walking distance ... but can say the same for all the other guesthouses in the area
Review 53:We told the reception with patience that we would have to leave early at 6:30 and the receptionist assured us to be there, but english was really very poor in this place and after one hour of knocking, searching and shouting for the receptionist we had to give up and leave at 7 without getting our 200Baht keydeposit back... ;o( Like this it was definitely overpriced! The waterland holding the houses is full of moskitos, a bit stinky and the river view not enjoyable.
Review 54:nothing particularly nice or bad.
Review 55:The room had an infestation of ants around the bathroom.
Review 56:Stayed in a Comfort Twin with Shower and it was more than adequate. Reasonably clean and comfortable beds.
Review 57:Hut wobbled all the time. Karaoke bar, two properties over, was VERY loud till late at night/early morning. Beds are quite thin and hard.
Review 58:Excellent proximity to the Bridge and other attractions. Close to restaurants. Air con was great. Very cool riverside huts! Cute decor. Very close to laundry services.
Review 59:Unfortunately some language misinterpretation resulted with us being sent to the wrong town on our next stop! However, this has been made out to be an amusing story since then!
Review 60:Quiet location, set well off the main road Friendly staff Fairly central (short walks to main attractions) Would've liked to have stayed longer!
Review 61:Very tired decor shower not hot when above waist height. Bath should be replaced with walk in shower and sink fitted in bayhroom not on outside balcony.
Review 62:Location
Review 63:No fridge
Review 64:Good location, clean, comfortable bed, hot shower, good air con, booked Family Hut but was under maintence. Got 2 adjacent standard huts for same price of Family hut.
Review 65:We booked a Superior bungalow, which was good for size n location on river, but room n bathroom v tired, loose n missing tiles in bathroom. Drab curtains at windows. Nowhere to put clothes.
Review 66:The peace n quiet on the balcony, lovely view with early morning mist on river. Others have complained of baby blanket on bed instead of sheet, the nights were chilly n soft feel blanket was defiantly needed, a bonus for us.
Review 67:Beds and linnen are very old, I slept under a much too short comforter without a sheet. The personnel and their family/children are quite noisy, also early in the morning. I wouldnt stay here again.
Review 68:Location is good, next to shops, restaurants, Travel desks and bike rental.
Review 69:General cleanliness ok but definitely needed a fix up especially bathroom. Log cabin wasn't like superior cabin on photos but was nice.
Review 70:Lovely cabin overlooking river. Good location, about 15/20mins to bridge pubs and restaurants to left and right. Staff really friendly.
Review 71:This should be better for this money. I stayed in a lodge at the bottom near the river, it was totally overhung with a tree making it dark and oppressive. With the curtains drawn and a sunny day I still needed the light on. Basically this place is taking the money and not spending it on the place. It's tatty. I had to kneel in the bath to take a shower, the shower control was missing too, etc etc. The reception is full of clutter.
Review 72:Using the WiFi to find somewhere else!
Review 73:-rooms are small and very simple, don't expect luxury
Review 74:-clean accommodations -ability to book tours & buses on site -breakfast available on site (pay extra) -close to many restaurants & bars; manageable walk to River Kwai Bridge but a bit far
Review 75:The lady on the desk was really helpful and always wanting to please. Good location close to lots of bars, we booked a tour which was well organised. Staying in one of the bungalows, brilliant for what we needed.
Review 76:Toilet had a bad odour from water below, but still OK.
Review 77:Very helpful accommodating staff and pretty venue centrally located close to all shops and restaurants. Great for the adventurous traveller.
Review 78:Beds uncomfortable Only had an old blanket on bed Stayed 3 nights and the room wasn't cleaned once Had to ask for more toilet rolls Breakfast was terrible and was cold We booked this room because the description stated it overlooked the river kwai. You'll need binoculars to see the river kwai from here because it's a good 20 minute walk away
Review 79:One member of staff Moony was very helpful but that's about it
Review 80:Bed too hard for my wife's comfort. (but ok for me - it's personal I suppose) No wifi no food (except breakfast) Nowhere for clothes storage.
Review 81:Lovely veranda with views over river. Close to village - bars, restaurants etc.
Review 82:WiFi was poor, wildlife can be noisy at night - didn't bother us but worth mentioning.
Review 83:Nice little huts, clean room and bathroom, nice communal area
Review 84:Excellent location. Close to River Kwai Bridge, you can go there by foot. A lot of grocery stores, restaurants and bars around. Also close to railway station. Nice place.
Review 85:The facilities weren't brilliant but what do you expect for under £10 a night!
Review 86:The location, the friendly staff, always ready with a smile and the cleanliness.
Review 87:When check out the owner did not remember giving back the key deposit. Be careful with laundry service and check there are not clothes missing.
Review 88:Good location.
Review 89:My bathroom sink was broken and there was water coming down on the floor. But as it was the tiled shower floor anyway it wasn't a big deal.Plus it can be fixed:)
Review 90:Located right in the middle od the touristy area with many bars, restaurants, clubs, shops, facilities and what not.The room was in a little cottage,cozy,wi-fi and a/c worked perfectly, hot shower too.And the owner - lady - she is super nice!
Review 91:-Wifi was bad in the room. At the Restaurant or outside the Room it works slowly but stable. - At night a little bit loud (Geckos, Frogs and Birds)
Review 92:- View to River Kwai - Little "Jungle" in front of the Bungalows and Rooms - Lot´s of animals in the Garden - Friendly & helpful Owners - Near to many restaurants, bars, supermarkets and for sightseeing.
Review 93:Guesthouse and Room need maintenance. Surrounding area need to clean-up. Not enough space for car park.
Review 94:Close to night market - near the "Bridge of River Kwai" Good location - can hire motorbike taxi to bring you around town.
Review 95:The woman at the reception could have been a bit more friendly.
Review 96:It was basic but comfortable and quite easy to find, cause it is located near the hostel street of kanchanaburi. Perfect price-quality ratio for students and backpakers. We had a room near to the reception so Wifi was available for us. The room even had a TV, which we didnt use, but was nice to have.
Review 97:Bed was hard but you get what you pay for! Brilliant location at cheap price.
Review 98:Great location - within walking distance to bus station and minutes walk away from lots of bars and restaurants!! The lady who works there is lovely .. Helping us arrange our day trips! Instead of going on more expensive trips with company's we travelled on the local buses with her help on which ones to catch to the safari and waterfalls .. Saved us a lot of money!!
Review 99:The staff at Sam's house were really friendly and I loved the 2 dogs as well :-) My room was nice and clean when I arrived but I stayed for 4 nights and it was not cleaned once, I had to empty the bins and leave them outside the room myself and also ask for toilet paper.
Review 100:Room decor seemed slightly outdated. Noisy frogs which croak all night if rain is on the way.
Review 101:Location on main street was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Comfortable stay.
Review 102:Bathroom was smelly,we had to buy air fresheners and we did find a cockroach. Had to ask for extra sheets as only give bottom sheets. Wifi only worked in reception area and some rooms had no English language tv channels
Review 103:Great location and friendly staff. Place has loads of potential. Problems were resolved very quickly. A little attention to detail and some redecoration would make this place excellent
Review 104:Dampness, cleanliness, the bathroom was disgusting and really needed redoing, the sink was worn away, the mirror wasn't usable, the ceiling in the bathroom was rank, the whole
Review 105:We were recommended this place from a friend, I think they stayed in another type of room than us though because our room was dire. Location was okay, resort was a bit run down.
Review 106:Sams house is a lovely hotel with good facilities. It needs updating slightly but nothing to complain about. The frogs birds and bugs are cherruping all night and day. Its a lovely place and staff are very helpful and kind. In comparison to some places I have stayed in Thailand this place was definitely one of the best at the price we paid. :)
Review 107:Location, the place itself is very unique, great place to stay over the weekend with a group of friends with just the basic needs of a room and a toilet. Excellent value for money.
Review 108:No fridge. Breakfast not good. Ants in toilet.
Review 109:In the middle of the touristcenter, many good restaurants and bars around. Near the bridge. Good value for money. Pets allowed.
Review 110:Beautiful cabins, feels like middle of jungle, while actually on a road with many shops/restaurants and near all main attractions
Review 111:Careful they don't overcharge you
Review 112:Location God for leak bridge
Review 113:Bit noisy at night time, it's dependent on who else is staying at the same time.
Review 114:Staff friendly, bungalow was spotless, location was awesome.
Review 115:Staff start cleaning outside area very early in the morning and and during this proces they talk extra loud.
Review 116:Good location, good value for money.
Review 117:Staff not all the time there and they leave the key unattended. So far is okay.
Review 118:The place is unique and design is good. Natural environment.
Review 119:Sam is an exelent amdasader for all that is right with Tighland very fare and very caring, a mine of information
