Reviews for Castle Poipu Shores
Review 1:This was an amazing place to stay. We awoke every morning to a view of the crashing surf from our bed. Down below our patio we could see the Sea Turtles swimming. It was lovely to swim in the pool and gaze out over the ocean. Can't say enough about the location.
Review 2:The rooms were small, the tropical window style allowed in a lot of noise and made sleep difficult, parking was inconvenient, and getting to the beach with children and their gear was challenging. I feel Castle Poipu was extremely overpriced.
Review 3:The view was beautiful.
Review 4:The rating of the property is misleading. The unit was badly in need of renovation. It was old and the furnishings were old as well. The unit is not air conditioned and there were no "trade winds" when we were there, so it was warm. Also, because of the warmth, the windows need to remain open to keep air circulating, which means the crashing waves can be very loud, and causes issues with geckos and bugs in the unit. Parking is on site and free, but very, very tight.
Review 5:The view is amazing, and essentially the highlight of the property. The location is on a cliff right over the crashing waves which is majestic. Watching the sea turtles was wonderful. The location is not by the swimming beach, but it is an easy walk to it. It is a good location if you want to stay in Poipu.
Review 6:Do not believe the pictures posted. Not all rooms have been renovated. Our room ( a 2 bedroom appeared much larger than it actually was ). I expected a large bathroom with a tub, for soaking, in the master bedroom. What we got was a dual vanity in the bedroom and a tiny room for a toilet and a renovated shower. The shower had once been a tub/shower. The owners were too cheap to convert it to a shower properly, so they left the tub spigot sticking out of the wall. Otherwise the room was very nice. Just very disappointed that it had no tub. The guest bath has a vanity outside the tub/shower toilet room, which I guess is fine. The tub is an old one from the 70-80s with a sliding glass door (but works fine). But why not renovate it at the same time the rest of the condo was renovated? The owners have set the water temperatures at a temp that is great for showers, clothes, and dishes, but not for people that like to soak and read. This was my first condo that only had one TV (in the living room). I, personally like to,watch TV from bed, as well. There is no toaster (first time I have ever seen that in a condo). You can use the oven broiler, but it does dry out the toast. The pictures make the condo look huge, but one wall in the living room is all mirrors, which makes the room appear much larger than it actually is. Don't look for a sign that say 'Castle Poipu Shores', just look for 'Poipu Shores'. And finally, the motif is 'wicker' and that includes the carpet. I have walked on roads in third world countries, in my bare feet, that didn't cause my feet to hurt as much as walking on that carpet. Just plan on wearing thongs or shoes to walk through the condo.
Review 7:I was in 203A, the view was spectacular. We saw so many whales ( at a pretty good distance ), more turtles than I could count, and a pod of Spinner Dolphins ( just 300 yards from our balcony ). I loved going to sleep to the sound of the surf crashing into the lava wall ( better than taking an Ambien ). The pool is very nice, so warm you could spend hours in it. Look over the rail and watch turtles all day. I loved this island and the property is well maintained. It's a 30 min drive from the airport. Get groceries, etc in Lihue at Cosco, Walmart, Safeway, or K Mart. Markets in Poipu are a few miles away and more spendy. Poipu Beach, in my opinion, is overrated. I saw much better beaches on the other end of the island. The weather at the southern end of the island is exceptional, though. And Poipu is really only an easy 5-10 min walk. Everyday we saw big turtles and Monk Seals resting/sunning on the beach. I will go back again, and to the Poipu Shores (if they can promise me a room with all the things I require). This place isn't cheap, and you should get what you want.
Review 8:We loved the pool and Georgia! She was absolutely amazing. And the location was stunning, watching turtles all day long!
Review 9:Beaches were pretty avg for an Australian
Review 10:view, pool, seeing turtles from pool, eating poke ahi and watching chickens rule Kauai.
Review 11:View was great. Sat on the lanai and watched sea turtles just below, whales and the spinner dolphins. Easy walk to the beaches
Review 12:The parking lot is a bit tight to navigate in, but honestly, that's not a detraction from the all around experience.
Review 13:The unit we stayed in was a newly remodeled 2 bedroom on the 4th floor of Building A. The view from the deck was just amazing, with waves crashing on the rocks just yards away. There are green sea turtles clearly visible in the tide pools in front of the resort. To me, Poipu Shores is a perfect place to relax. There is no restaurant or bar, but shopping and food are just a few miles away. We had a well sorted kitchen, and used it to cook meals. Poipu Beach is accessible nearby, but was fairly crowded every day. We would stay here again for sure. I believe that this resort is best suited for couples traveling together. The rocky coastline would be a worry with small children, but a delight to sit and watch the endless waves. There is easy access to the whole South Coast from this location.
