Reviews for Felix River Kwai Resort
Review 1:The hotel did not have views of the bridge. The plumbing in the bathrooms needs up grading.
Review 2:The staff were all so very helpful and friendly. The pools were fantastic set in luscious gardens. Within easy walking distance of the bridge.
Review 3:A very nice riverside setting, but overpriced for a run-down hotel that saw better years of glory when it was part of the Sheraton group about 30 years ago. Seems to have gone downhill since then, evidenced by broken fittings and poor maintenance; plentiful food at buffet breakfast but of low quality, poor quality tea, coffee and fruit juices; monotonous breakfast choices, western hot food boring, no bacon offered (chicken hot-dogs and cooked ham slices), no healthy breakfast cereals or quality bread products; 'butter' was margarine.
Review 4:friendly staff, vast grounds even though poorly maintained
Review 5:During my first visit 15 years ago, everything was excellent. Meanwhile, the facilities - especially the wooden parts external of the buildings - would need some repainting in order to keep them in good condition and attractive looking. And in order to justify the relatively high room rates.
Review 6:Location close to the river and the garden area.
Review 7:The bar is the real drawback to this resort. Though beautifully designed it had techno and rap music playing, some of which used foul language. It was no surprise that there was no one there. This is not suitable music for this high quality property. Why not some traditional or appropriate Thai music?
Review 8:The setting and facilities are excellent. So too are the staff, especially the CRO Nattanan who was very concerned about my stomach problems. Thank you all.
Review 9:I felt like it was a good choice for what Kanchanaburi has to offer in terms of hotels but still a 3 star hotel. To go from the hotel to the city centre you can book the hotel van at approx. 80B/pax or less when you are more than two. It is a 10 minute ride.
Review 10:Nice and friendly staff. Nice pools, garden and surroundings. Really big terrace with beautiful view when booking a room by the river. Generous room size but outdated - needs to be refurbished. Satisfactory Wi-Fi service.
Review 11:Room did not replenish coffee, or soap, would have been good if milk supplied.
Review 12:Nice location, staff very pleasant one lady in particular was in charge of restaurant forget her name , very helpfull
Review 13:-quite a long way from Kanchanaburi city to get to hotel over small back roads -there is no lift and the stairs to upper floors are a little steep with small steps; older people or people with mobility issues should ask for groundlevel rooms -breakfast choices are focused on Thai guests, less on westeners; choice a little limited -can only get one room key which is a little silly when two people are staying in same room with different activities -noisy party boats passing by on the Kwai river in the evening
Review 14:-very good service from the guest relations manager Khun Nong (Norma) -very nice grounds and gardens -plenty of parking space -king size bed is very comfortable -large bathroom
Review 15:the rooms are old and warn out. I think it's over priced as the room wasn't as good as I expected.
Review 16:the hotel location is great!! :) staffs are very friendly :)
Review 17:Dead cockroaches in room, old and shabby. In some places quite dirty . Few staff not very helpful. I.e. Sat at desk chewing nails, couldn't help us at tour desk with basic transport into town .absolute scandal arranging transport to Bangkok in run down clapped out van at premium cost. Then driver drive at such a horrifically fast speed. Breakfast was pretty terrible except fresh omelette . Didn't even go near swimming pool. Cold water in shower. How is an elderly person to access the shower as bath is too high to get over to get into shower. I could go on but no point . Would NOT recommend
Review 18:One or two of the staff
Review 19:When we arrived we stayed in the deluxe river view room , the bed sheets were dirty and looked like they hadn't been changed however the staff were quick to change that . The main swimming pool looks old and dirty. Hotel has aged abit and could do with some work . Easy access to the railway though and other amenities
Review 20:The location is very relaxed and the food was reasonably good but very expensive
Review 21:this hotel need a total makeover !!!!!!! the swimming pool is huge but tiles are broke everywhere dangerous for the kids !!
Review 22:wonderful garden on the river
Review 23:I do not recommend that hotel if you are looking for something charming. This is big hotel with tour groups. But situation is convenient you can go by foot to the Kwai bridge and city center thus it is not in the middle of the nature...
Review 24:The hotel overcharges for everything. Bicycle rental is 60 baht an hour for shaky old things. The hotel charges 180 baht one way to the city (5 kilometers), last I was quoted 3,000 baht for a taxi ride back to Bangkok when the trip from Bangkok to the resort cost 1,500 baht.
Review 25:The resort sits on the bank of the river, and can see the famous bridge from the property. The resort is old and has a certain charm that the newer resorts don't have. It is not really a resort for non-Thais, as it customer base is Thai.
Review 26:I wanted something close to the Kwai River Bridge, with good facilities - particularly a good swimming pool - and somewhere secluded and relaxing. Fully met my need. The landscaping and layout of the resort is remarkable. I was particularly pleased that it was an easy walk from the Resort, across the bridge itself, to the far side (where the station, the market, other dining opportunities and so forth are located). I probably crossed the bridge on foot about 10 times at all times of the day and night quite comfortably. Felt somewhat adventurous doing so.
Review 27:Pool .. I don't think it had been cleaned in a very long time, so much so that we didn't use it. No smell of chlorine or salt in the 3 days we were there!
Review 28:Room was just wonderful.
Review 29:The floors in the rooms are so well looked after they are a little too highly polished and there you had to be mindful not to slip. The hotel is a little far out of town but riding a tuk tuk back at night was fun. Don't try to get to it from River Kwai railway station!
Review 30:Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a large variety of food to choose from on the readily available dining. Relaxing by the pool or walks around the garden were a great way to finish a day out.
Review 31:Power failure, but it is not the hotel's fault Only one restaurant open, not as advertised 3, as mentioned no guests
Review 32:Quiet and nice, no not many guests,
Review 33:You are well out of town and away from other resturants etc. Place feels more stuffy and formal than friendly. It's to big for the management to keep clean including the pool. Extras always added on top of every bill.
Review 34:The buildings are grand and the use of timber is amazing. Big rooms.
Review 35:A little out of town
Review 36:Very helpful staff, amazing diner on the river boat cruise and the flotting restaurant, nice massages at the institute, beautiful gardens and pools, good diversed breakfast, very close to the bridge of the Kwai river
Review 37:If anything I would say the pool could do with a clean, not that I used it, just had a dirty look to it.
Review 38:Short work to bridge over the river Kwai, staff were very helpful and room overlooked the river which was great.
Review 39:Overall price not really worth what we paid. Building is in disrepair looks like they haven't refurbished or made necessary maintenance or repairs for a long time - A/C units very old and took a full day to cool down room. Bathrooms old with chipped tiles and some mold and roofs are totally weathered and eaten away by termites. One of the three rooms had no chair or table for patio. Had 3 different room types and the least of the 3 (standard deluxe) had the best view and was cleaner w/ better working A/C unit(???)... Would stay again IF they spend the money to upgrade the decrepid buildings.
Review 40:Staff was nice and very helpful and attentive. Nice location and grounds with a great view on the river. Restaurant food pretty decent. Very quiet.
Review 41:To enjoy the stay in Kanchanaburi fully, there should be a "free" daily shuttle bus to the city with scheduled times during the day.
Review 42:We were upgraded to a ground-floor room at the Royal Suites close to the Lobby. The Resort's exotic architecture has expansive grounds. We enjoyed walking the lush, beautiful and well-maintained garden with two swimming pools. The staff (although their English is very limited) are friendly and helpful. We booked three private tours with the excellent Tour Desk. The tour guides and drivers are amazing and accommodating. Love the couple who entertainment us during dinner and at the bar lounge. We had a comfortable and pleasant 6-day stay. I think Felix River Kwai Resort is the best place in town and would recommend to anyone.
Review 43:One thing they could change: there ought to be a free shuttle into town, otherwise one is trapped in the evenings. It is a 3 or 4km walk otherwise.
Review 44:Lovely gardens. Rooms were four-star. Pool amazing. River setting fabulous
Review 45:The hotel needs upgrading, baths with shower curtains are a nono. The internet connection was a bit iffy for long periods.
Review 46:The location was spot on with only a short walk to the bridge. A 10 minute drive to the cematery and all the nightlife.
Review 47:The hot weather. I wanted to buy my wife a gift at the jewelry stand but they were never open. It they are not going to open, why waste the space?
Review 48:It was a pleasant stay.
Review 49:The staff speak very limited English so trying to book a taxi anywhere proved to be difficult, we got there eventually but allocate 15-20 minutes for translation purposes.
Review 50:Comfortable bed, beautiful decor, nice pool (though didn't get to use it) very clean
Review 51:cold fried eggs for breakfast. Chef cooks them and leaves them to stand, therefore cold. Eggs should be fried fresh and hot on demand. Minor whinge, everything fine otherwise.
Review 52:Quality of hotel rooms. We had suite then deluxe for additional night.
Review 53:Cleanliness was not 100% and resort needs a bit of maintenance.
Review 54:Staff speaks correct English, food is good, resort is along the river Kwai with beautiful view from the bedroom and just a few meters from THE bridge! Great activities organised from the resort.
Review 55:The rooms are spacious but old and run down. The bathroom is also spacious but everything is so old therefore its hard to keep everything to appear clean.
Review 56:The breakfast is okay
Review 57:Big blood stain on pillow, clean pillow case over top, but that was totally unacceptable. Staff dealt with, but that was pretty nasty. Although a beautiful resort, it was somehow a strange place, like suck in the 1970's decor or something, the welcome drink (usually alcohol) was a sugary fruit punch that tasted like cool-aid with no alcohol.
Review 58:Pool is nice, Balcony off the room is nice, many tv channels, close to the bridge over River Kwai, can walk there in 10 mins Room was very comfortable and the hotel was relatively luxury for the area.
Review 59:Very poorly maintained. Very old building, rooms, bathrooms, everything! Very tired looking and not clean. The pool looks like ti could use a scrub and the breakfast was a joke! Such a pity as with all the plants it looks great at a glance, and then you look closer and you notice everything... Flash back to the 80s/90s wouldn't have been bothersome if it had been clean. Such a pity.
Review 60:The location was walking distance to the Bridge with views of the river.
Review 61:Very old and not maintained resort, toilet wash basin mixer almost gone eaten by rust, fungas around shower, really disappointed when entered the room what we saw never expected. Decided to short our stay to two days instead of four though we have to pay for three nights. I will not recommend this resort.
Review 62:Location
Review 63:room was not clean room had not been restocked from previous guest wi fi did not work in the room (I was told to go to the lobby to access wifi after being told numerous times that if would be okay in the room) pool was not clean only Thai tv channels (seems to be the only resort in Kanchanaburi that does this) over priced
Review 64:nice gardens
Review 65:The bathrooms didnt match the bedrooms for quality. The hotels bars were closed during our stay due to renovations even though meetings were still happening there. There are better and cheaper hotels in the area that are more accessable , you really need a car or bike at this hotel.
Review 66:The garden setting on the river was excellent with many areas to sit and watch the sun go down. The breakfast was good and the quality was pretty high. Staff seemed a little jaded probably after the high season. The 2 swimming pools were both excellent and fairly quiet. The hotel was hard to find but was walking distance via a small path to the bridge. Was a good base to drive further west to the main sights which are suprisingly a fair way away but great scenery.
Review 67:Could have been more Western dishes available for breakfast.
Review 68:Spacious room with large balcony overlooking river.
Review 69:WiFi wasn't working and services were not very prompt.
Review 70:Liked the location n surroundings.
Review 71:Location. Cleanliness.
Review 72:Recommended
Review 73:Old and grubby, terrible restaurant service and food.
Review 74:View from deluxe room was great.
Review 75:Breakfast was horrible.
Review 76:Awesome location, short walk to the bridge. Beautiful pool.
Review 77:The breakfast could use a little more choice for european people.
Review 78:Real Nice view from your room at the River, quick room service and cleaning
Review 79:Had to wait at the checkout for the house keeper ok our room.great
Review 80:Position,facilities
Review 81:Nothing
Review 82:All things. Nice food
Review 83:Internet is always down in the room.
Review 84:We like a room with river view.
Review 85:Bit of maintenance wouldn't go amiss
Review 86:Great hotel and staff, needs a bit of refurbishment
Review 87:Could do with more sun loungers at pool
Review 88:Staff friendly and helpful, hotel rooms comfortable, plenty of room, clean, nice outside seating area
Review 89:No vegetarians options in breakfast and meals
Review 90:We did not consume minibar but was charged to us by mistake which we later realized
Review 91:Cycling, tennis court, swimming pool
Review 92:a bit run down, not overly clean
Review 93:Gardens, space
Review 94:Distance to town.
Review 95:Comfort
Review 96:must be free offer souna and free wifi
Review 97:location near river
Review 98:Find not good. Pool didn't look to clean.
Review 99:Near the bridge
Review 100:Clean and location, helpful staff
Review 101:It's a little bit pricey for what it is. It's a little outdated.
Review 102:Location. A lovely place to wake up. Staff were very friendly.
Review 103:very large well equipped rooms, beautiful garden setting
Review 104:Mosquitoes (but this comes with the area)
Review 105:Staff Spacious room Facilities Food Location View
Review 106:Wifi connection is poor. Currency of water coming from shower bath is too light.
Review 107:It is well maintained for a hotel aging over 20 years old.
Review 108:The hotel a little old. Renovation needed. Breakfast for westerners is simple.
Review 109:The location is good. Near the bridge, restaurants.
Review 110:nothing
Review 111:the river the pianobar the breakfast
Review 112:no wifi in the room and far for evry where
Review 113:facilities
Review 114:The food poisoning I got from the duck curry I had one night.
Review 115:The pool area and view on the river from our room.
Review 116:-not enough seats for breakfast buffets and have no service from staffs.
Review 117:No lift Bathrooms a need refurbishment Building woodwork needs attention Maybe needs english tv station and some pipe music?
Review 118:Good location on River Kwai Room size. Well kept gardens. Spacious layout. Willing, helpful and respectful staff
Review 119:Good location (next to the River Kwai Bridge, next to the river and a nice temple). Very well kept spacy outside area with ponds and small rivers full of fish. Nice big pool. Good breakfast. Helpful staff
Review 120:It's not easy to eat outside the hotel without a taxi, and we were unlucky with the restaurant, with everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The restaurant manager tried her best, but you can't dig yourself out of a hole! But overall it was a good place to stay for visiting Kanchanaburi.
Review 121:Location, pool, friendly staff, comfortable room and good value, though a little tired.
Review 122:Transport to town was relatively expensive, but that is certainly a very minor issue.
Review 123:The grounds. Location. Breakfast. It is a very nice and pleasant resort. I would like to return for a month's stay!
Review 124:I would have lked to see more transport available to get guest around the area from the hotel.
Review 125:The location was excellent. The facilities within the hotel were very good.
Review 126:Facility (especially our room) shows it's age and needs upgrading.
Review 127:Magnificent location with pleasant landscaping. Cordial, helpful and friendly staff will do anything to please you. Excellent breakfast menu has many options. BIG spacious room and lounging areas
Review 128:Badly needs refurbishing, especially bathrooms and swimming pool. Artificial waterway around the grounds could be nice if it was properly maintained and cleaned. Wifi reception was terrible.
Review 129:Both deluxe and superior rooms were spacious with good size balcony/verandah with seating. Deluxe river view rooms had a great view of the Kwai. Grounds were large.
Review 130:Loud partying UNI students. Partying all night long. Shower curtain was filthy
Review 131:Location was great and the facilities were great. Food at the Chinese restaurant was also very good!
Review 132:Felt a bit weird because no one was staying in this huge resort. Nothing really.
Review 133:The pool and the fact that we had to walk across the bridge over the river Kwai to go anywhere. We had the whole resort to ourselves!! Nice gardens, on the river, nice sunsets. Although the dogs were bad on the track. Carry a stick!!
Review 134:Very near to but on the 'wrong' side of the bridge. Fine during daylight but meant being cut off from the Kwai village (restaurants etc) after dark. A scheduled shuttle bus would have helped. (Could order it but quite expensive.) Internet access was charged for. (Everywhere else we stayed it was free.) Not what we expected at a place of this quality.
Review 135:Classy hotel resort in beautiful setting.
Review 136:The rooms could do with some modernisation. Breakfast could do with a few extra western elements, bacon, hash browns, pork sausage. Also all the food needs to be kept warm.
Review 137:The spa was great with skilled staff. Location was great and the room backed onto the river which was lovely. Staff were very helpful. Pool was well designed.
Review 138:The rooms and particularly the bathrooms, at least in S Block are rather tired and need refurbishment.
Review 139:The beautiful gardens and swimming pools, plus the large size rooms are the 3 reasons I have now stayed at this hotel 4 times.
Review 140:The price is high and limited in breakfast, It will be nice if increase in BF selection
Review 141:The location is excellent next to the river side, Its very quite and very relaxing. I did not get river view room, it was fully booked Unfortunetly !!
