Reviews for Jailhouse Inn

Review 1:Small breakfast room, not enough tables for the guests - had to wait on a couple of mornings for a table - although the breakfast itself was good

Review 2:Great location, 24 hour reception, free car park

Review 3:Since it is a bed and breakfast, it would have been nice to have a traditional bed and breakfast meal that consists of several courses served to you instead of a continental breakfast that you can get at most hotels

Review 4:We loved the history of the place and the beds were very comfortable. Centrally located to everything!

Review 5:The only complaint I have is the mattress on the beds were incredibly hard. So much so I had to switch rooms and still the mattress was quite firm.

Review 6:Loved this Inn. The staff could not have been any nicer or more helpful.

Review 7:none

Review 8:Location in New Port is great. Free parking next to hotel. Our room was at the back and no noise from trafic. Breakfast ok and all value for money

Review 9:Since the hotel is down town it can be a little bit noisy although things settle down at around 10:00. If you are traveling with an older person, when making reservations you may wish to ask for a shower with a grab bar as they are not standard.

Review 10:The Jailhouse Inn is situated in downtown Newport within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and tastefully yet simply decorated. The beds are comfortable. The sheets have a high thread count. There is a heat lamp in the bathroom. The complimentary breakfast is simple yet tasty.

Review 11:Could use new mini blinds or window treatments and more detail to cleaning moldings and heat registers.

Review 12:Very warm & friendly staff. Clean bathroom with CLEAN shower curtain. Loved the heat lamps! Location was good for walking to restaurants and sights. Also liked mini fridge in room.

Review 13:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean, large and comfortable. it was awesome that you received a discount for the sailing excursions!

Review 14:I wished the windows opened It was a beautiful fall day and didn't need AC but w/o opening the windows the bedrooms got a little stuffy

Review 15:Rachel at the front desk was a wealth of information! Ask for anything and you'll have it in minutes Great spot to walk to EVERYTHING!

Review 16:Our rooms were a little tight and the bathroom was really small. However, they have many rooms that are larger. We needed first floor accommodations.

Review 17:The staff was amazing and the Inn was very unique. Very accommodating!!

Review 18:Disappointed in conditions. Bathtub chipped, dingy, furniture worn. Lots of windows in room 23 but several so old couldn't see thru them, fogged, over.

Review 19:Staff greeted us, made us feel welcome.

Review 20:Parking a large vehicle is very complicated unless you are lucky to get a spot out front or on the side.

Review 21:Staff was so welcoming. The room was spacious. Cookies, tea and coffee in the afternoon. Very pleasant!

Review 22:We would have liked to have comfortable setting in the room.

Review 23:We loved the location friendliness and cleanliness of the inn. The breakfast and afternoon cookies were excellent.

Review 24:The room was very clean. The breakfast was delicious (homemade oatmeal & apple spice bread, toast, English muffins, french toast, fresh fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs, ham, cheese, coffee, tea, & juice). The staff was friendly & attentive. Highly recommended!

Review 25:The staff was very helpful and pleasant to talk with. I liked that snacks were available throughout the day. There was plenty of parking and within walking distance of many things to do and places to eat.

Review 26:See above

Review 27:Helpful and friendly staff. Great location with parking.Quick walk to restaurants, bars, etc. The room was musty but we put the AC fan on and it helped. The room was very basic but the bed was comfortable.I thought it was pricey but it was a holiday week end. Not much in the charm department but good location with other benefits.

Review 28:We were given a room on the third floor which I believe which was previously an attic. The ceilings were too low in some areas of the room.

Review 29:The location is ideal for those who want to be right next to the wharf.

Review 30:Room was very dark that we were in as it was in the eves - shame really had to leave light on. Breakfast a bit basic but functional and clean. No lifts!

Review 31:Nice location

Review 32:The breakfast was ok, but I was disappointed because there were only hard boiled eggs and no scramble eggs and the cheese was not good.

Review 33:The room was big enough for the 3 of us. It was clean and well located

Review 34:Totally over rated property. Blinds haven't been cleaned since the convicts left. Rotten bananas at breakfast. Desk person for two days was barely civil but on the third day the new one was wonderful.

Review 35:Location was good but there are other properties with good locations.

Review 36:Breakfast was ok - basic Continental fare

Review 37:Perfect location to walk to shops and restaurants. Close to Broadway where we found some good restaurants away from the touristy Thames St. Loved the wicker chairs on porch to have a glass of wine and cookies in the afternoon.

Review 38:I liked everything!

Review 39:The staff was delightful. Very clean and cute. It was also in walking distance to everything. Free parking and great breakfast. I would stsy there again.

Review 40:Our view was a dumpster in an alley and two mornings there was a garbage truck at 6:30 am. The other two mornings there were construction workers with equipment beeping and making noise starting at 6:30. The beds were hard as boards and the bedding looking like it was from the 70's. The rooms had no charm whatsoever.

Review 41:The location is slightly on the "wrong side of the tracks" but a block away or so starts a very nice area.

Review 42:Didn't like being awoken each morning with the dumpsters being emptied and I thought breakfast could be a little fancier

Review 43:Loved the staff and room and location

Review 44:A "tutorial" on the amenities would have been nice.

Review 45:The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is very helpful and attentive. The small fridge in room #10 was not working and we were given a choice of alternative rooms without hesitation and with sincere apologies.

Review 46:Great location, friendly staff. Stayed here with our kids (11, 13) who enjoyed the story behind the place. It's not fancy, but it's clean and well-appointed and we highly recommend it.

Review 47:Bed was too firm for me. Breakfast choices were limited.

Review 48:Location is fantastic. Loved our room #19. Clean and unique. Great cookies! Easy and free parking.

Review 49:conditioning is always noisy and positioned in window so we had to turn off at night to shut the curtains too

Review 50:our room was extremely comfortable we were four with two kids breakfast was the best and vary unfortunately we stayed one night only this town is worth a longer stay

Review 51:The in-room refrigerator is poky but OK for a couple sodas. The parking lot is appreciated but had trouble figuring out how to get into it.

Review 52:First off - room was very, very clean and fresh. My room was larger than expected; simple and attractive. The beds come with lots of fluffy pillows and bottled water had been set out. Even the bath mats are fluffy! Staff is friendly and personable. Continental breakfast in the charming breakfast room was generous - different types of breads, cereals, plenty of toppings, even yogurt and fresh strawberries. And I don't think it's mentioned in the listing, but there is 24-hour coffee service! For the price, an excellent deal and I'll stay here again.

Review 53:The Inn was located very centrally. We could walk to everywhere we wanted to go in Newport. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The room was very spacious and comfortable.

Review 54:Would not be ideal for someone who could not do steps. No elevator. If you cannot do steps ask for a room on the main floor.

Review 55:Location. Walking distant to downtown area.

Review 56:We booked last second and received a spacious room. They kept snacks out late at night and had a quality breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff were just awesome, very helpful and friendly. The Jailhouse Inn is beautifully presented and very comfortable. Spacious rooms and nice little touches. Would love to come back and stay again.

Review 59:Located within easy walking distance of Bowen's Wharf which teems with good restaurants and smart shops and pre-revolutionary well preserved buildings, and numerous opportunities for sail tours.

Review 60:The women who checked us in were friendly, knowledgable and helpful! The rooms were spacious for our family of 4- we had a superior room on 2nd floor- this hotel is quaint and full of history. The breakfast was amazing- homemade quiche was even included! And the location is amazing- we walked most everywhere :)

Review 61:The church across the street is a soup shelter, this local area swarms with homeless people. One of them swore at us.

Review 62:The place was clean and the staff were very nice

Review 63:The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. When I needed an email printed they were happy to help at no cost. Breakfast was simple, but good and the coffee, tea and fruit available all day. The room was tidy and sufficient but not highly decorative for an "inn." I would recommend for travel just not a romantic get away.

Review 64:This hotel is small, 23 rooms, impeccably clean and reasonably priced. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is perfect for walking trips to harbor.

Review 65:No coffeee maker in room Heating was not on,we were in an attic room and it was close to freezing outside when queried told radiator not on as not expecting it to be cold, air con only warms if all units are on heating cycle.no apology. Dining room too small

Review 66:Location Friendly staff

Review 67:Very small breakfast room so be prepared to queue if you go down at a busy time.

Review 68:Excellent location. Very good value for the area. Rooms were spacious. Car park adjacent to hotel. Good breakfast. Good facilities in rooms.

Review 69:The only thing I didn't like was the bed was a bit too hard for me but that is a personal preference. It didn't hurt my back or keep me from sleeping though.

Review 70:I like everything! Great value, great staff, very clean and great breakfast!! The fresh cookies in the afternoon are a plus!! The location is excellent!! It's a quick 2 minute walk to the harbor and a 5 minute drive to the beach and cliff walk. Also it's in walking distance to a few nice places to eat. The girl at the desk recommended The Brick Alley Pub. Boy was it delicious!! We went back a 2nd time!! It's a must try!! I can't wait to go back to Newport and the Jailhouse Inn!!

Review 71:I felt the breakfast room was a little small and the beds could have been a little firmer, but we'll be back.

Review 72:The manager Sharon was a cheerful and welcoming woman who went out of her way to make the guests feel at home. A really great weekend. We will definitely come back.

Review 73:Great location, big rooms, friendly helpful and thoughtful staff. Tea and coffee available 24/7. Great continental breakfast. Wish we were staying longer.

Review 74:Our bed was a bit hard and the bedcovers were strange - not the usual duvet and quite heavy. It's a good idea to arrive early for breakfast as the room is very small but breakfast is good.

Review 75:Lovely quirky building and perfectly located for the centre of Newport.

Review 76:Good size contemporary rooms, comfortable beds and fridge. Although not a cooked breakfast a nice selection of breads, pastries and cereal, and tea and coffee available all day and cookies in the afternoon. Good location and value for money.

Review 77:Need for recharging stations or more easily accessible outlets and more places to hang wet towels.

Review 78:The weather was wet and cold, but I was barely fazed thanks to the location, the amazing cookies every afternoon, the suggestions for eateries and things to see and do, the great breakfasts, and the kindness of the staff.

Review 79:The main road is in poor condition and is used by tricks, buses andemergency vehicles which results in lots of road noise. We had room 1which is on the ground floor next to the entrance and it was a verynoisy location. The front porch is outside the bedroom window! Evenafter complaining (the staff did react) it was still too noisy. Foundthe room quite cool and took a long time to warm up. Breakfast room fartoo small.

Review 80:It has bags of character. Good size to the rooms. Breakfast was good.Good parking

Review 81:Location, ambience, convenience, deluxe room which was comfortable. Bathroom comprehensive, and wifi very efficient. Tea/coffee available on arrival, and breakfast tasty.

Review 82:The only bad thing I can think of was the location of breakfast. You needed to walk through all of the tables to get to the food. This was not a problem if nobody was in the breakfast room with you. If the room had people in it, you were bumping into other folks to sit down.

Review 83:Location was perfect if you wanted to see the area. Did not need to use a car to go to any nearby restaurants , shops on Thames street or waterfront. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Short drive to the area mansions. Highly recommend!

Review 84:Would have preferred a queen to a king size bed Would have liked more outlets not connected to wall switch Bathroom could use a redesign for more usability and storage

Review 85:Excellent location Loads of charm and character

Review 86:Breakfast room rather small for size of inn

Review 87:Spacious room with good facilities. Helpful staff. Character property. Breakfast included in rate so good value for money. Excellent home baked cookies in afternoon.

Review 88:Clean & comfortable. Nice location in Historic district. Great breakfast. Staff accommodated & put breakfast out extra early on Newport Marathon morning.

Review 89:Parking could be very tight if the hotel is full. Breakfast selection was limited

Review 90:Great room within a lovely building with an interesting history. Coffee, tea and fruit always available and cookies in the afternoon if you are there at the right time. Convenient for parking - free. Convenient for the sights of Newport. Lovely friendly staff and nice welcome when we arrived.

Review 91:When I asked the Inn to forward my medications and toiletries which I accidentally left in the room, it took them 6 days before they did anything in response to my request. In the end I had a family member travel to the Inn to pick up the items. The hotel's service in this matter was very poor. We will not be staying there again.

Review 92:No cons.

Review 93:We stayed one night at the Jailhouse Inn. The staff was courteous at all times. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was immaculate. Breakfast was included. It was delicious with many choices. We were walking distance to all the shops in Newport but quiet at night. We will definitely stay again.

Review 94:A little noise at night, doors slamming and can hear people walking and talking in the halls.

Review 95:Very nice place to stay, great location and lots of thing to do in Newport.. Room was clean and comfortable... I would recommend to friends.

Review 96:Dining area too small. We had to wait for a seat. It made for an uncomfortable situation :(

Review 97:Inn was beautiful ! And cool! Rooms are beautiful ! Location is fantastic. Staff very friendly ;)

Review 98:Continental breakfast could be improved, suggest locally baked breads or muffins. Missed new bottled water on third day.

Review 99:Staff very knowlegable of area and activities. Location close enough to walk to main streets and wharfs and far enough to be quiet. Room was clean. Nice offer of complimentary bottled water.

Review 100:Bed was very hard. Was hoping for more variety in breakfast, but quality of what was provided was good.

Review 101:Location is great - right near Thames St. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly and responsive.

Review 102:There was mildew and a blood stain on the shower curtain liner. I was in such a rush to get ready to go to a wedding that I didn't have time to ask them to change it out. I feel they should have caught that before we checked in.

Review 103:Convenient to shopping and restaurants.

Review 104:Took my daughter to visit UCONN and University of Rhode Island. We needed a place to stay overnight. The Jailhouse Inn was perfect! We had two double beds that were separated by a bathroom. It was in walking distance to all the shops and restaurants so we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. What we enjoyed most was sitting on the front porch and talking to Christopher, the front desk person! He was so helpful and friendly!!!

Review 105:Noisy dumpsters behind the inn if you are on the back side. Would have appreciated a shelf in the bathroom for holding our toiletries (there's plenty of room in there!)

Review 106:Large room and bathroom; comfortable bed. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Also, very convenient to downtown. They play up the jailhouse theme just enough so that it's fun, not overdone.

Review 107:Breakfast could do with a little more variety but it was good enough to fill us

Review 108:Love the location. Very central. Love the friendly staff. My room was spacious and clean. Enjoyed the tea time cookies.

Review 109:other than one very nice young woman who carted my bag up three flights of stairs virtually no staff. place is old and hasn't seen any updates carpet or furniture in at least 15 years. very poor quality for the price

Review 110:Mattresses are a little firm, but we just pretended it continued the jailhouse theme.

Review 111:I have been going to Newport for years and have stayed at many different hotels. This hotel, price wise, is probably the best deal in Newport and had great facilities. I liked it better than the Marriott and the Marina hotel (which are twice this price during the summer season). Also, a young girl with glasses who worked at the front desk was so helpful and amazing during our stay. I wish I remembered her name because she is due much credit for her excellence in customer service.

Review 112:Breakfast was very basic and staff could have been more welcoming. The staff were professional but not really very friendly.

Review 113:Great location and character. Fairly priced.

Review 114:Friendly, good location, free parking, comfortable, nice breakfast, large rooms.

Review 115:The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Parking was very convenient. Location was great. I would stay at Jailhouse Inn again.

Review 116:Probably one of the most comfortable beds we ever had with MEGGA pillows big and soft great staff and good cookies every day we will be back

Review 117:good location,good breakfast,good all round.

Review 118:Very friendly greeting. Interesting and fun walking distance to great places to eat and shop.

Review 119:Everything

Review 120:Breakfast was average.

Review 121:Location good. Parking easy. Tea, coffee, cookies and fresh fruit always available. Great room (19, max-security!)

Review 122:A second towel rack in the bathroom would help

Review 123:Just about everything

Review 124:i forgot my tooth brush and they did not have extras on site.

Review 125:The location, the breakfast, friendly staff.

Review 126:No coffee/tea making facilities in room

Review 127:Central location
