Reviews for Castle Kiahuna Plantation & The Beach Bunglows
Review 1:No professional person to handle the physical work-out facilities (including tennis) across the street; different person every day at beach shack; childish system of requiring guests to hold onto "green plastic cards" to assure towel issuance & return
Review 2:Reception checking in & out (Myrna); beach shack generally; proximity to ocean & other tourist things; great tennis courts but most unfortunate that no one knowledgable to promote tennis amongst guests / others
Review 3:That the pool area is so far from all else
Review 4:The room was lovely clean and equipped with all the necessities . The bed was very comfortable and kids loved using boogie boards . Loved the grounds
Review 5:We stayed here for 8 nights. Our apartment wasn't cleaned once even though they said it would be. We paid a cleaning fee at check out and then they had the nerve to charge an extra U$ 78 dollars post check out for cleaning! Dodgy, be careful.
Review 6:This is NOT a hotel, but apartments! Staff not very interested in guests. No AC in the room. Daily cleaning did not happen, but towels were exchanged. No lifeguard on duty at the beach. Value for money is not met.
Review 7:Nice direct location at the beach, spacious room, well equipped. We are easy guests, so we were happy with the place, but...
Review 8:Generally resorts or hotels look better in pictures than when you get there this time the resort was better then the pictures. Staff, accommodation and location were all great. Maximum 5 minutes walk to great beaches and room had all we required and more.
Review 9:We stayed here for one month and enjoyed it. However, there were a few downfalls. There is no air conditioning (which is fairly typical for this island) but it wasn't terrible as we were on the third (top) floor. No elevators: While we normally take the stairs, it was a bummer to carry a month's worth of luggage up and down the stairs. Not a huge deal but worth mentioning. The room we stayed in was dated so the bathroom wasn't that great and the kitchen appliances were struggling (one of the eyes didn't work on the stove). We also had a problem with the internet and one of our bathroom cabinet doors wouldn't close because of a broken hinge. We notified the staff and they immediately took care of both problems. Also, the pool looks wonderful in these photos. Just know that it is actually the Poipu Athletic Club across the street and not on the Plantation property. They're doing a lot of renovations to the Athletic Club so it should be nice in the upcoming year.
Review 10:The staff was amazing. They were quick to help and take care of any problems. We stayed on the third (top) floor so there was a nice, constant breeze. We highly recommend staying on a high floor here as there isn't air conditioning and other visitors were complaining about the heat in their place. The location is really nice as well! The staff maintains the grounds really well. Beautiful property grounds!
Review 11:The place is run and upkept as a first class resort. The grounds and grills are like new. The relationship with the athletic club is outstanding and the beach front is awesome.
Review 12:That we couldn't stay longer!!!
Review 13:Loved the location, the grounds were stunning and the beach being much quieter than maui and Oahu. The lawn near the beach also is great!
Review 14:Wifi didn't work most of the time - staff didn't do anything to fix it, lack of pool in complex , rubbish on path not picked up for days
Review 15:Great location, comfortable accomodation
Review 16:Tried to call the front desk several times and never got through since no one answered.
Review 17:Loved how spacious it was and quiet and peaceful. Also loved the balcony!
Review 18:There is a 130$+tax charge mandatory for housekeeping no matter how longyour stay is for. You wonder what you pay for as little is done to cleanthe room, the charge is way too high and just unfair. Room really oldwith a creepy old bathroom full of mold, dirty and extremely unsafe, this is a "bathroom" worth of a bad and cheapest motel, not ofa 350$ room per night!!!!!! Room is way too small, if you plan to havepeople/kids sleeping in the sofa bed, think again, it is notcomfortable and it takes up the whole living room leaving no space tomove around, very tight
Review 19:Unit was close to maintenance yard, but noise was not bad.
Review 20:Nice grounds, good location, easy walk to great beach. Certainly not on par with more expensive properties, but very comfortable and clean. Louvered windows and decor give a very Hawaiian feel.
Review 21:First place had strong moldy smell and had a lot of other problems. We felt they shouldn't rent this unit until it was improved. We moved to another place which was nicer, but the floors were dirty-white socks were filthy after one day. Had to move to third place because second was booked. Third place was nice, but cushions and recliner were dirty and the floors were dirty. We were disappointed because we had stayed at Kiahuna years ago and it was great.
Review 22:Location, grounds, access to beach
Review 23:Having to go back home to weather that was -35 degrees with the windchill. Brrrr :)
Review 24:We really enjoyed our week in Kauai at the Kiahuna Plantation. Our family planned some great adventures thanks to Mr. Bart at the beach location. He suggested a lot of fun activities. Our kids loved the boogie boards, snorkeling, and the wonderful sandy beach to relax. They also enjoyed the helicopter ride, luau, and golfing. We had wonderful weather too. Thanks so much.
Review 25:One of the other guests brought two pitbulls and let them loose on the beach. The mangement needed to control this immediately.
Review 26:Standing on the grand lawn, overlooking the sea and watching the sun set was spectacular! The beach itself was wonderful; watching surfing lessons in progress, snorkelling on the reef, playing in the surf, and sunning ourselves on the beach provided the hight of fun and entertainment. The accommodations were outstanding. Our unit was centrally located on the grand lawn, making it easy to access the views and the beach. The furnishings were aesthetic and comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. Having access to a communal barbeque and a private patio where we could enjoy a meal or a drink was wonderful. It ws evident too that the staff worked hard to maintain the grounds and the daily housekeeping kept the unit pristine throughout our week long visit. Finally, while Poipu is located on the leeward side of the island, it is central to other places of interest. It was easy to take day trips to places like the Waimea Canyon or the Napali Coast. We couldn't have found a place that suited our needs better.
Review 27:This resort is right at the beach at the sunny side of Kauai. The resort is like a big green garden. The vila is very spacious and with a great kitchen.
Review 28:Room was nice but not as nice and updated as the pictures showed on website.
Review 29:We loved that the beach was just steps away. We visited a few beaches and Poipu was our favorite. Property is across the street from a market and restaurants. Access to athletic club with pool was also across the street. Nice facilities with updated weight area. Would highly recommend staying here!
Review 30:The rooms have no air conditioner so therefore all windows have to remain open at all times, there was no relief from the muggy hot weather do we didn't spend much time in room, sleeping was worse it's very hard to sleep in those conditions, plus you here everyone else around you, all there windows open also :( we were not aware of no ac also it was not unlisted in accommodations.
Review 31:The plantation is beautiful and location is great
Review 32:no airconditioning, only fans charged a US$100+ cleaning fee on top of the accommodation fee didn't have the rooms serviced, for that money I would expect that- my mistake I should have asked before booking
Review 33:location to beach and shops was good
Review 34:Reception staff unhelpful and overwhelmed. There were hurricane conditions, rain and we have a baby yet we were not permitted to check in early. She told us to come back later and there was no nice place stay dry in the reception area. It was pretty basic and bordered junkey. Paid for an ocean view, but assigned to a lawn view. We went to the Sheraton next door and sheltered there. Eventually someone else jumped in to help us when we went back to check in and got a great view, nice apartment:condo, but there was NO AIR CONDITIONING and it was sticky hot. Also they don't serve breakfast or lunch at the restaurant. There's a great kitchen in the unit, but one must drive to a market to get groceries. The whalers general store is walking distant if you want avocados from Mexico and eggs from the mainland and other over price junky things.
Review 35:Location good, balcony big and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen.
Review 36:The microwave didn't work. No AC. Which was ok the bed wasn't for me.
Review 37:The beach. The beach hut rental store that they have was nice. The guy who worked it was extremely cool his name was Bart. Thanks Bart.
Review 38:We moved to Bldg #5 after the first night of no sleep due to being next to a hedgerow with chickens/roosters and also close to Poipu Rd with noise all night. The bed was lumpy in the first apartment. There is no AC in any of the apartments. We had a very small ocean view the first night.
Review 39:After we moved to Bldg #5, close to the ocean and and beautiful lawn and palm trees, our outlook and mood changed totally. We were so happy there, did not need AC in that location due to the wonderful ocean breeze. We hardly heard any roosters in that location. It's all about location but we had to pay alot of extra money to stay in that bungalow close to the ocean.
Review 40:Units are privately held so ymmv Beach equipment was dirty On our last morning there the power went away for almost 30 mins. When I inquired at the front desk no explanation was provided even though it has clearly messed up everybody's plans.
Review 41:Proximity to beach Great facilities at Poipu athletic club Grounds are well maintained
Review 42:No air conditioning (which would have been nice in July), lack of privacy (due to need of opening up windows to permit air flow), uncomfortable mattress.
Review 43:Spacious, nice looking, good amenities.
Review 44:Cramped quarters - no room to set suitcases in master bedroom; pretty warm in there with only leavered windows and ceiling fan was very wobbly; Check in staff is not super service oriented
Review 45:Grounds, Location - Restaurant is great
Review 46:Nice to be able to walk to the beach
Review 47:Not the place to party long into the night...
Review 48:Stunning location, beautiful facilities
Review 49:Old equipped Appartement.
Review 50:Best beach around!
Review 51:loved everything about it
Review 52:Great location!, friendly Staff. Fabulous beach.
Review 53:the condo was falling apart . Everything that could brake was broken .it has to be the worst place I stayed in
Review 54:The only thing I like was Poipu beach
Review 55:pool too far away housekeeping
Review 56:Beach Workout facilities (except location) view of ocean location
Review 57:Best place with a beach. Sheraton, mariott and others next door did not have this beach. Housing reminded of a hollister shop
Review 58:Beach in frnt of us
Review 59:Lack of air conditioning made it hard to get comfortable. Poor air flow through unit even with the trade winds.
Review 60:Nice location
Review 61:Beautiful grounds, lovely staff, clean, clean, clean! Wonderful location, easy access to everything Kauai had to offer.
Review 62:No complaints
Review 63:The location is ideal to amenities and the beach. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Review 64:Beautiful, old plantation style buildings surrounded by tropical flowers and towering trees. Lush, peaceful and relaxing.
Review 65:Didn't care for th 150 cleaning fee. It was nothing more than renting a condo. they shouldn't call it a resort.
Review 66:The apartment was very comfortable, with lots of room to spread out and work. Staff were helpful in locating nearby grocery stores.
Review 67:Noise level was pretty bad. Very close to road. Pool was not on actual grounds and very noisy with young kids.
Review 68:Close to beach
Review 69:Having to leave
Review 70:The helpful staff
Review 71:The kitchen could have had more supplies
Review 72:Location Beach Staff Grounds
Review 73:Bugs and no A/C
Review 74:The view
Review 75:It met all of our needs and was centrally located. Nice beaches nearby.
Review 76:Cluttered, dated décor and only average cleanliness
Review 77:Location
Review 78:A bit near a noisy main road
Review 79:Beautiful gardens, really near the beach and the condo was really lovely
Review 80:The wifi was unusable in the room - had to go to the reception area to use it. Also, Verizon phone service was spotty
Review 81:Excellect
Review 82:Space Gardens Beach Barbecues Joe's on the Green Pool Gym
Review 83:furniture fitness road to cross
Review 84:Location for the beach and restaurant
Review 85:No air con! Very difficult to sleep;
Review 86:The garden , the view, the restaurant, the location, the atmosphere
Review 87:The sofabeds could be much better.
Review 88:The plantation and beach are wonderful.
Review 89:It was difficult accessing the property even if we were on the ground level.
Review 90:The layout and interior furnishings and accommodations were very good.
Review 91:the check-in /desk staff is not the friendliest.
Review 92:location of the condo close to the ocean and beach; excellent housekeeping staff; beautiful landscaping; great grills for cooking out; nice restaurants on property and across street;
Review 93:Our condo bldg 18 unitv125 left a lot to be desired. Old, worn, dated, tired. We had a ocean view but just a sliver. These units are owned by individual owners. When I mentioned the condition to staff they just shrugged it off
Review 94:Plantation resturant food and staff excellent Close to shops food
Review 95:These are owned small condo like units that vary in quality a great deal. Booking directly with the Castle does not get you the best units, for this it is apparently best to book with the owners themselves via vacation home sites. It is also good to know that half the property is administrated by Castle, the other by Outrigger, which is confusing. We were on the Castle side of the property. If you are booking with Castle know that the three garden view buildings are near the road, main driveway and the Marriott parking lot, so they are noisy. We had asked for an updated unit not close the road. The first unit we were given was very dated, dirty, the bath and shower old and grimy, and was right by the road. We complained and they moved us to a very nice updated unit in middle of the three garden view buildings. The Castle ocean or partial ocean view units are not near the road. Although if you are going to rent these, it may be cheaper to look at a actual house rental. There is no air conditioning, but we did not need it in March. The pool and fitness center are across the main street and up a trail, which is not great, we did not use them. It would be nice if the pool complex with snack and beverage bar were in the middle of the property. There is no beach bar on the property, just the restaurant set back from the beach, which we did not try. The Marriott and the Koa Kea hotels next door both have outdoor bars and restaurants by their pools. We would only stay here again if we would know which unit we were going into specifically.
Review 96:The staff were friendly and accommodating. The property is beautiful and is right on Poipu beach, which is fantastic. If you can get an updated unit away from the road it is a nice condo style property without the older Hawaiian apartment feel. Good restaurants and upscale shopping areas near by, close enough to Lihue for groceries. Wide variety of activities available in the area. Watch out for the timeshare activity booking counters, there is one at the Poipu shopping center. Centrally located so it is easy to explore the island.
Review 97:We had two units during our stay..the first was was fine; we just wanteda better view' so we we moved to a different unit. It was verydated...dirty grout on kitchen counters, damaged bathroom door, draperywas frayed and dirty as well as the carpet. It was truly unacceptable. We over heard a woman complaining at the front desk that she was movingout because of the condition of their unit. We would never stay at thisproperty again.
Review 98:Location, grounds and staff were good.
Review 99:Only negative was the shower was a little dirty was some hairs in there which was a little yuk.
Review 100:We loved staying in Poipu such a beautiful town we definitely want to return. We were lucky and got a second level room No.448 our room was perfect very big, yes they are a little old but other wise great. The bed was super comfy, the grounds are beautiful and the beach front in small but beautiful my highlight was the Hawiian monk seal that comes up on the beach to sleep the day away. We were told he isn't alway there though we were just lucky. Not alot of noise free wifi we loved it.
Review 101:Be prepared these are privately owned condos so not all the same furnishings or upkeep. Our unit was 413 in building 40. It was very rundown and not at all clean. During our short 2 night 1 day stay we encountered numerous roaches in the unit. We are frequent travelers to Hawaii and realize there are bugs but we have never experienced roaches inside our room before. Also be prepared for loud roosters all day and night. Kauai has an abundance on the island, but the majority seem to be squawking all night at this resort. With no A/C you can't close windows to block out the noise. Will not recommend or stay here again.
Review 102:The location was great.
Review 103:Inadequate parking
Review 104:Partial ocean view was an overstatement - you could barely see the water far away!
Review 105:Nice to have full kitchen.
Review 106:The grounds are gorgeous. Loads of bungalows but it still felt like you were secluded. Well maintained with excellent facilities.
Review 107:Our room was close to the road and needed updating
