Reviews for Harborside Inn
Review 1:No short comings to speak of. Friendly and helpful staff, great location, large clean rooms, nice breakfast location and setup. We'll return some day.
Review 2:The mattresses on the beds were terrible. The king size bed was on top of a heating unit and we were boiling during the night.
Review 3:The innkeeper was very nice and the location was excellent.
Review 4:Unable to sleep at all due to noise from kitchen, could hear next door shower running. from upstairs, could clearly hear showers running, non stop walking and vacuuming.
Review 5:Beautiful room, wonderful ocean view, great amenities, great staff.
Review 6:Absolutely loved it. My girlfriend and I couldn't have been happier with the room and the staff. This is my first choice when we go back to Newport
Review 7:We were warmly welcomed. We had a wonderful view, the food was amazing the staff was great. Bed was comfortable... bedding good quality...no complaints at alll......Shower massage....awesome for a tired back!
Review 8:Could not regulate temp in room, but was able to open window during the night. It looked like floor in bedroom had not been vacuumed since there were a couple of clear plastic ties from previous tenants' purchases.
Review 9:Comfortably furnished bedroom that was next door to Harbor Room where we enjoyed tea and cookies in evening and breakfast in morning. Continental breakfast had a nice variety of items.
Review 10:Very cute and quaint place to stay. Staff was amazing and always eager to help. Fun little place and close to food and shopping. Always felt like we were the only ones there.
Review 11:The breakfast was really ordinary and disappointing for the price -no bread abd muffins were not fresh -no fruit really to speak of -such a shame
Review 12:The location
Review 13:We liked the location and the very friendly staff. The breakfast was good and tea and fresh baked cookies were available every afternoon. We stayed 3 days and really enjoyed it.
Review 14:I like to have a cup of tea before bed at night and I was a little disappointed that there was no place in the hotel for me to get a cup of hot water after 8pm.
Review 15:The staff was wonderful, the location was great and the rooms were super comfortable for our stay.
Review 16:My husband complained about the size of the toilet. I think for the room charge, an elevator would be nice. The staff offered to help, but the majority of guests would say no.
Review 17:I liked the location and Jane at check in was very sweet.
Review 18:The beds are rock hard and in desperate need of an egg crate or topper. A front desk employee named Kate was rude and inappropriately asked us if the breast pump in the room (for my friend who was nursing) was a drinking game because the housekeepers and staff were curious and had been discussing what they saw in our room.
Review 19:Conveniently located near many shops and the water
Review 20:The Wifi was a bit unreliable.
Review 21:We loved our stay here, the staff were friendly and very welcoming. The best breakfast we have had on our travels. A lovely afternoon tea, free bottled water and Wifi
Review 22:My husband & I traveled with his sister & her husband. They hada great room w/ a king bed. They were happy. On booking this hotelwe tried to get a king room or two beds. We received a room w/ 2full beds. One was in a loft (yes, I was informed it was in the loft byreservations) I didn't think it would be difficult steps but, I am60 and the stairs to the loft were straight up and super narrow.i had togo up there to turn on the window ac, since it must have been over 100degrees in our room. The bed linens were dirty. We decided to go outwhile the ac hopefully cooled off the room. I stopped by the front desk.It was a different person from check in and told them the loft bedneeded clean linens since it was full of black hair and mine is allgrey!! He said he would take care of it. He did not. I asked if they hadvacancies and he said yes, but he changed the subject and went back tohis computer. My bad for not being more assertive. I slept in the bedw/ my husband and we both kicked each other throughout the night!Made for a grumpy traveler...
Review 23:Great location, great potential..
Review 24:Wish A/c had been a little stronger...very minor issue and was given a big fan to help.
Review 25:Staff, very accommodating & helpful. Gorgeous views and awesome location in town. Would definitely stay there again,
Review 26:We had a two-night stay. There was no room cleaning after the first night. Not that it was a huge issue but I had to remove my own garbage and find a place to put it. Parking can be a nightmare because of the shared property, but it is what it is. We made it work.
Review 27:The view was amazing. The room was comfortable and the staff was great.
Review 28:We originally booked a suite, but found that it had two bedrooms instead of a lounge and bedroom. The upstairs bedroom was only accessible via a steep ladder, and had no bathroom. We swapped out for a standard bedroom - view not as good but more space. Breakfast now up to scratch for the price paid.
Review 29:Location right on the Harbourfront. Also within walking distance of old town Newport. Nice spacious room with a couch. Plenty of restaurants close by within walking distance.
Review 30:There was not anything about this that either myself or my frienddid not like.
Review 31:Great location. Within walking distance of a lot of things.I Amdisabled. Staff carried my bag to my room. I can honestly say that hadnever happened before. Pleasant experience from the moment we arrived tothe moment we left. Clean, comfortable, convenient. Booking for visitnext year!
Review 32:No elevator! Had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs. It's ok to walk up the stairs, it's the luggage that's a pain!
Review 33:The room was very comfortable and spacious. We had a king size bed and a sleeper sofa. There were 3 of us in the room; 2 adults and 1 teenage child. Nice view of the harbor. Fabulous location, walking distance to everything. Only negative, no elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. But it actually wasn't too bad. We only had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs.
Review 34:The bed was very uncomfortable for me. Too firm, very, very firm.
Review 35:Pleasently surprised with this hotel..rooms were comfortable with a balcony and water views.the location was great in the middle of restaurants, bars and shopping.
Review 36:THe two bedside lamps in my room didn't work? :(
Review 37:Jane and all the staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. I was traveling alone and I felt like I was "home away from home".
Review 38:The bed was hard. No elevator. I paid for a harbor view but was disappointed that our balcony overlooked rooftops more than water.
Review 39:The staff was so friendly and helpful. Felt like a B and B in that sense. Location is right on Thames close to activities.
Review 40:The breakfast could offer more variety and hot choices. Good coffee , though.
Review 41:We liked most the helpfulness for the staff, and the generally quiet environs. And especially proximity to the water.
Review 42:Nice place but pricey. Hotel next door with bar & grill very noisey on the side with the Harbour!
Review 43:Staff was great! Very nice view and walking distance to the shops & restaurants!
Review 44:Bathroom tissue could be a better quality. Could use a small elevator, Lots of stairs, but good exersise for some.
Review 45:Location, cleanliness, good continental breaksfast, Homemade cookies, pastries and coffee from 7:30am till 5:00pm daily. Excellent staff!!!, On the water,
Review 46:The one thing I did not enjoy of Harborside Inn was the "Waterfront View." 1. There was a huge barge blocking our view and 2. for upgrade and amount of money for the waterside and balcony view, it wasn't much of a view. You more so had to crank your neck from the window to see the water, it would've been much better if it was out on the water more.
Review 47:The staff was amazing here; very friendly and accommodating and the complimentary breakfast in the morning was great. Love hanging out in the Harbor room. The room was nice and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location of this hotel was perfect, it was in the middle of everything located on Thames Street. Perfect location, cute and quaint, and wonderful staff makes this a beautiful place to stay while in Newport.
Review 48:I thought check out was at 12 not 11 and the staff made that a bit of an issue.
Review 49:Kate Moss, the front desk person, was incredibly helpful and friendly. She made us feel very welcome and helped make our trip even better! I love having breakfast in the morning in the Harborside room.
Review 50:Staff very friendly and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The view from the Harbor room is wonderful. The breakfast each morning and homemade cookies were delicious!
Review 51:The shop door on the ground floor was very loud, but only during the day, and who cares.
Review 52:The room was an utter treat, two levels and a balcony. The hotel is perfectly situated so that America's Cup and Lower Thames areas are minutes away by foot. The staff was absolutely lovely. Off-season treat.
Review 53:The balconies are very small and in need of repair. Most of the rooms are harbor view (less direct) rather than harbor front.
Review 54:The location is central to Newport. The breakfast room is lovely and cozy with windows looking out to the harbor. The rooms are very clean, nicely furnished and with nice amenities. The staff was very pleasant, especially the morning breakfast room attendants.
Review 55:bed was as hard as a rock. Have to carry luggage up flight of stairs, no help.
Review 56:The entire place was immaculate, staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to walk to dinner and shopping.
Review 57:A little bit of noise from an adjoining hotel/bar/restaurant on the Fri.night
Review 58:Jane was a gem-helpful and friendly. Room was really comfortable. Breakfast is sufficient and varied enough for continental
Review 59:I honestly cannot say anything negative about our stay - everything was just perfect.
Review 60:The staff was very friendly and warm, the room was clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the water - The continental breakfast was a good assortment of pastries, fruit, cereal, oatmeal and other fresh options and there was coffee and cookies available all day. Perfect location - walking distance to just about everything. I will certainly stay here again.
Review 61:a)Icemaker on opposite wall outside Bedroom. Noisy and a lot of traffic b) Our room must have been below staff rooms as they rose at c 5pm and a lot of noise overhead which continued with breakkfast set up (which we appreciate must be done). Once awake we could not go back to sleep. The location of the kitchen/lounge appears to be too close to the bedrooms.
Review 62:Breakfast, room and bed
Review 63:Breakfast was a bit ordinary but at least it was included in the cost.
Review 64:Each afternoon you could help yourself to tea/coffee and cookies in the breakfast room. A nice touch. Wonderful location on the water front Bed was huge and very comfortable Comfortable and good size rooms
Review 65:The 2 bed suite, has no curtains or blinds on the upper loft bed level, flooding both rooms with light from 6am! The adjacent hotel plays background music outside until very late, bizarrely it was louder inside our room than outside, not enough to prevent sleep, but an irritation
Review 66:Good location, clean & generally in good repair
Review 67:The only thing we didn't like was that our stay was too short! Also, the hotel next door has an outdoor bar which could get noisy with the patrons and loud music. However, we love music, and we loved the extra entertainment! You could shut your windows and put on the window fans to block out the noise if you wanted to.
Review 68:We loved the location, in the center of everything. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, the sights. The staff was friendly, and so were the guests! Every afternoon, we were also treated to the aroma of freshly baked cookies, in the dining area, which were served with tea or milk overlooking the beautiful harbor filled with every kind of boat imaginable. We will definitely be back!
Review 69:Could not log on to the wifi. Also the bed was a little firm for me, but my husband who has a bad back was actually ok with the firmness.
Review 70:We absolutely loved our room!!! We stayed in a suite and will be requesting the same room again!!! Beautiful views of the harbor
Review 71:LITTLE BIT DARK IN THE ROOMS WE HAD AND THE PLUMBING NEEDS SORTING. WE HAD A PROBLEM WHICH WAS SORTED OUT VERY AMICABLY BY THE STAFF BUT IT DOES NEED LOOKING AT FOR THE NEW SEASON.
Review 72:REALLY COMFY BEDS. COULDN'T FAULT THE LOCATION EXCELLENT FOR THE BOAT TRIPS AND EASY ACCESS TO SOME NICE RESTAURANTS IN TOWN
Review 73:Room is not as clean and furnishings not as updated as it should be
Review 74:Location is great close to everything especially if it's your first time to Newport. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 75:Friendly staff...cleanliness...location of the Harborside to downtown events and eating places. Excellent value for the money with the free parking and a very good breakfast buffet.
Review 76:Ultimately it is an inn at hotel prices. But this is Newport and the location makes up for it. The adjacent bar was very loud - an early night would be impossible - but the music did stop promptly at midnight.
Review 77:Ultimately in Newport it is all about location and the Harborside location is great with a harbour view from some rooms. The afternoon cookies are great as is breakfast. Jane couldn't have been more helpful when our car broke down and we had to call for assistance.
Review 78:Lack of thorough cleaning - so dusty. Air con u it was very noisy and seemed to have a mind of its own.
Review 79:Location Staff Free wifi Comp breakfast and afternoon tea
Review 80:Our room was a little bit musty, but our room was right on the water.
Review 81:Outstanding staff, perfect location (right in the middle of town and with a balcony overlooking harbor), free parking and internet, and considerable breakfast (and afternoon coffee and cookies too!).
Review 82:The room could have used a good dusting. The room had a slight odor, but a locally purchased candle helped with that.
Review 83:The location is perfect to easily walk to most attractions in the area. The staff was very friendly. The street view duplex room was very spacious and comfortable The breakfast choices were very good.
Review 84:The room was not well cleaned (for the price), and there was a horrible musty airconditioning smell that apparently was not picked up by the staff. We burned candles to get rid of it. It was room 17, very expensive with an OK view of the harbor. Not romantic as expected.
Review 85:Location. We liked the breakfast room with its view (food itself is so-so); and hotel personnel there were friendly.
Review 86:There are a few stairs to climb if you have a room on the top floor as we did
Review 87:The central location of this hotel made it a great choice particularly when coupled with the excellent front desk staff for which nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We had a room with a nice view of the harbour which was a must.
Review 88:Hinges on bathroom door were rusty and in need of replacement. TV was not crystal clear and in need of replacement.
Review 89:Free parking, wifi and breakfast! Great location.
Review 90:Was in Rhode Island for a memorial service with friends. The staff was very accommodating to our circumstances and they were even courteous enough to leave a condolence card in the room before we got there. It's thoughtful touches like this that would make me recommend the Harborside Inn to anyone who would like an authentic Newport experience. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 91:Fantastic rooms and location! Will be back for sure! Great to have parking too - we walked everywhere and didn't need our car at all!
Review 92:Very small bathroom and lack of bathroom space for personal care items. Exhaust fan did not work properly.
Review 93:Location
Review 94:Sad that the row of shops surrounding the Inn were not open on Black Friday or Saturday. :(
Review 95:Location and comfort of room.
Review 96:The staff were so friendly and really added to our stay! The breakfast was really good and they make tasty cookies each day.
Review 97:Breakfast was meh

Review 112:none
Review 113:loved the location and the bathroom was spotless !! a big plus in my eyes
Review 114:Have stayed many times since the Harborside first opened. Can't beat the location.
Review 115:Poor breakfast. Croissants and waffles were dry.
Review 116:Location and views
Review 117:Bathrooms and lighting should be updated.
Review 118:Third time staying there. Love location and the size of the inn. We don't like large hotels.
Review 119:No elevator
Review 120:Great stay- close to all. Bonus- free parking. Wish they had elevator ad we were on third floor.
Review 121:No lifts, very basic facilities. More a B&B than a hotel.
Review 122:Location, size and condition of rooms.
