Reviews for Eureka Inn

Review 1:The Rooms have been remodeled, very nice. The staff goes out of the way to make you feel welcomed. Nice complimentary continental breakfast. Want to stay there again.

Review 2:Everything. We were given a room directly above a wedding reception in progress. Music was so loud the room rattled. We were not given a different room or reduced rate. Later that night, part of the wedding party got into a fist fight, cops and ambulance were involved and inebriated men were stumbling down the hall, pounding on their room doors, and yelling at whoever had locked them out. We spent the night in the room, unable to go anywhere because my daughters didn't feel safe. As if that wasn't bad enough, housekeeping accused me of smoking in the room. I NEVER smoke in hotel rooms. Ever. My daughter had a nose bleed, minimal blood on the bedsheet. Received a notice in my room that I was charged a $150 fee for the odor and the sheet.I am very unhappy about the way these matters were dealt with. The management should be ashamed.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:Historical buildings have their downside, including no central heating. The little heater in the room did an ok job, but it was a still a little chilly.

Review 5:This is an amazing historic hotel! The ambiance is fantastic, the staff are wonderful and the bar is absolutely lovely. Great location in a super cute old town.

Review 6:Bathroom & room to small.remodeling in progress makes people not want to come out.lounge close on Sunday. No where to get something to eat.charging to much and not having enough to offer.

Review 7:Clean

Review 8:There wasn't anything we didn't like, although the bar staff could have been more helpful & polite when I went in for change.

Review 9:It was very nice historic hotel. The bathrooms are updated and the beds were comfortable

Review 10:The hotel is going through renovation, but I wouldn't consider that something I don't like.

Review 11:The hotel has a lot of personality since it was built in 1922. The decorative fixtures, bar, lounge area and front desk area were just beautiful. The hotel was quiet and located walking-distance to old town and the wharf.

Review 12:Wi-fi only really worked in the lobby and breakfast room, never in the room. Room was stuffy and only a small window opened.

Review 13:Good location in that it is easily drivable to old town but immediate area is dilapidated. Front staff were polite.

Review 14:I was disappointed that the lounge and restaurant was closed on Sunday evening because much of the town was closed and we had to venture far away to find entertainment

Review 15:Historical venue in a great location was very accommodating, quiet, and comfortable!

Review 16:It smelled like a bar when I went inside. They are in the process of remodeling and once they replace the carpeting and finish I would think it will be much nicer.

Review 17:It is an old historic hotel in the process of a remodel.

Review 18:Sorry that they had to be working at getting better. It's an antique hotel that was clearly top drawer at one time. That time was long ago, and the entire area is now becoming gentrified. I think...slowly.

Review 19:Working at getting better

Review 20:The breakfast was not impressive. The flower decorations were more or less dead- maybe the gardener was on vacation? Poor Wi-Fi, didn't work most of the time.

Review 21:Good location and friendly staff. Fantastic atmosphere and info about past times.

Review 22:Historic property in major state of deferred maintenance. Very dirty. The few modifications that were done were did not respect the integrity of the historic architecture. Old cheap furniture and old historic casement windows that allowed for loud traffic noise.

Review 23:Location

Review 24:There is no wifi in this hotel. You have to go down to the lobby for wifi. The room phone did not work. The bathroom sink area has no counter space. Cleaning staff did not vacuum room during our stay. This is a dirty and shabby property.

Review 25:Front desk staff seemed friendly and helpful.

Review 26:Wish the clerk that checked us in had oriented us a little more on where to get dinner and reminded us that there was breakfast available for us at the hotel.

Review 27:Loved the haunted hotel!

Review 28:Surly receptionist. Brown decor in room. Kettle in room but no mugs, tea or coffee. Very poor atmosphere as hardly any guests staying.

Review 29:Clean towels and bedlinen.

Review 30:Simple things like gluing down wall paper in the hallways would help, and not take away from the character of the motel.

Review 31:I liked the history of the motel, and interior architecture.

Review 32:There was no mention of breakfast or able to be located. The room was a little warm even with the window open and fan going.

Review 33:We enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel and the uniqueness. It was clean, comfortable and will definitely stay here again.

Review 34:WiFi did not work in our room. We had to walk to the lobby to connect. The hairdryer did not work. There was no mirror other than in the bathroom and there were insufficient outlets. The hotel does not have air conditioning.

Review 35:Immediate neighborhood is run down. Hotel exterior looks tired.

Review 36:Lots of history and character to facility. Still being remodeled, but rooms are comfortable.

Review 37:No Wifi service in most areas of the hotel. Bathtub had no stopper. No room service.

Review 38:Like the Hotel in the movie "The Shining". Historical Hotel that has seen better days.

Review 39:This is a historic hotel so I went in knowing that it would not be a state of the art hotel. The owner has done a very good job at slowly renovating little by little. Can't wait to see the end result.

Review 40:Eureka itself was not worth a visit.

Review 41:Great looking hotel, feels like a set from a movie but is very tired inside. Rooms were comfortable though. Staff helpful when needed. Stayed on a Sunday and all hotel bars and restaurants closed, aside from breakfast room. Eureka is an odd place downtown is dead and harbour is underwhelming

Review 42:1) The phone didn't work. 2) The shower control handle was loose. 3) The bathroom heat/fan control would not turn.

Review 43:Primarily we liked the fantastic architectural details. The price was comparable to other "better" lodging availabilities.

Review 44:Room keys take forever to open the doors, old carpets. oil paintings of famous celebrities - Churchill, Walt Disney, Ronald Reagan Bogart - adorn the walls, hand operated elrvator etc. the ambiance reminds one of 30s and 40s movies.

Review 45:Decayed elegance of the 40s.

Review 46:We arrived around 11:30pm in a Friday night. This hotel has a karaoke bar. It was so noisy even in our room located on 3rd floor, because this is a old building, I can still feel the floor is shaking.

Review 47:Room had not been cleaned from previous guest. We walked into a disgusting mess. Then was asked to wait for an hour and a half to be cleaned. I refused so then gave me a different room with 2 beds. Pool and back entrance all under construction..

Review 48:Good location you can walk to downtown .

Review 49:Wifi did not work in the rooms at all.

Review 50:Very neat historic place that was comfortable and clean. It all looks like thy are working at re-vitalizing the inn which would be amazing.

Review 51:No one offered to help us with our luggage knowing we were traveling with 2 small children. We were not offered WiFi or told about the hotels amenities.

Review 52:The rooms were nice and clean.

Review 53:The clerk was a bit surly when we checked in. You can't use the pool currently as the entire back of the hotel is under renovation.

Review 54:Good downtown location, comfy bed, some old-world charm.

Review 55:wifi availability ; more healthy variety for breakfast. Boiled eggs would have been a good protein.

Review 56:History of the structure. Authentic feel of the inn

Review 57:Breakfast is terrible... All sugar. WiFi only in lobby. Bathroom lacked grab bar in tub;ventilation in bathroom not functioning. In brief management is struggling to make a go of it.

Review 58:I like the historic building

Review 59:My requests prior to my arrival at the hotel were not honored. The bathroom was very small and there was no counter space for toiletries or places to hang towels. It took four people to process our bill after dinner. I would not recommend eating there...less than mediocre food.

Review 60:Excellent location and clean comfortable beds. We were able to open the windows to allow fresh air into the room.

Review 61:cutting corners on a lot of areas. Costco pre_packed bakery as breakfast, Costco muffins sliced like bread to save money, bare-minimal amenities in room. Swimming pool and spa room under construction (by one person, been over a year, according to a local)

Review 62:Looks great, especially the lobby. Classic, antique style decorations. Location a little off busiest, close walking distance to most areas , still.

Review 63:Still needs a lot of work. The reception and booking in we're slow and breakfast was poor. Service was generally slow.

Review 64:The location was very good, close to town centre yet quiet. Lovely old building, still being renovated.

Review 65:I needed a roll-away bed and was told there were none available, but in the morning I spied one in a storage area.

Review 66:Really liked the ambiance. Staff was helpful and friendly. Will be great when all the remodeling is done.

Review 67:We had a lower floor king room. A bit on the small side. Reserve directly with hotel for info on suites, for little more. Finish work was plus minus. Pool not done...reno work on outside pool area.

Review 68:Location good. Grand lobby with gas fireplace. ..lots of sitting couches to enjoy fire.

Review 69:We really struggled with the wifi, because we were using Apple products we had to give up in the end. Hotel was noisy due to renovations.

Review 70:The history of the hotel was amazing.

Review 71:My room was in the back hallway and for security purposes you can only enter or exit the hotel in the front of the building, which was inconvenient when hauling luggage. Also, the halls bear a resemblance to the ones in the shining, so it depends on your take whether that is cool or creepy. In all honesty, Eureka is a sketchy town. There is no pedestrian traffic after dark, except homeless folks, even in that seemingly central neighborhood. With this in mind, when another guest attempted to unlock my room's door at midnight in a drunken stupor it was unpleasant to be in back hallway alone with young kids. The staff were lovely and came right over when I called about this. But, again, I got the impression security is an issue they take seriously for a reason. This detracts a bit from the charm of the hotel. Much less importantly, the breakfast was mediocre with attractive, but stale pastry and donuts. The rooms are in fact a smidge chilly, but eventually the room heater kicked in and did the trick.

Review 72:The inn itself is very pretty and a well maintained historic building. There is a piano player by a roaring fire in the great room which is lovely and romantic.

Review 73:The property must still be in renovation. The bathroom was the same size as the closet. The "breakfast" was truly poor.

Review 74:The historical significance of the hotel. The bed was great.

Review 75:on check out day my telephone calls to front desk were not answered.

Review 76:the location close to old downtown was nice as was the comfortable bed and the morning breakfast. I enjoyed the 1920's-30's architecture and construction.

Review 77:However, the large room had only a couch, a big screen TV, a bed and a table and a lamp on a bedside table. There were none of the usual amenities, such as a coffee maker and coffee and tea. The room was very cold and took most of the evening to warm it with a wall heater. The place is very large, and was very empty.

Review 78:It's a lovely old building. The room was very large and the bathroom had been redone nicely. There were nice soaps and shampoos. The restaurant was also in a lovely dining room and the food was okay, but not great.

Review 79:the room with the high ceilings was a little too cool but mentioned to the staff and they were very helpful in accommodating with extra bed spread and heater. thanks good stay

Review 80:We were there in January, and, as it is an old building with no central heating, it's quite chilly. You need to wear your sweater! The rooms have room heaters which are sufficient (just!). You may need extra blankets! Last year we were in a large suite, and the little heater couldn't keep the big room warm.

Review 81:Gorgeous old Inn, very historic. Breakfast included is substantial. Staff always willing to help out and go the extra mile. I love the main room with the huge fireplace - I could have spent all day there knitting! Even though it's an old building, the rooms are updated and comfortable. Love all the historic display cases and feel of the place. Would love to try the restaurant in the hotel - looks excellent. Lounge is very comfortable and relaxing as well.

Review 82:Our room, although mostly clean and lovely, had a few disappointing quirks. The hand soap in the bathroom was already open and half used. More worrisome, the toilet bowl had.. something in it when we arrived. The maid apparently didn't flush it while preparing the room. The restaurant was not up to our expectations. Way overpriced ($25-29 for entree) with the quality of food you generally expect from Denny's. Breakfast was pathetic and utterly disappointing, even cheap motels offer more. It is better for a hotel to abolish breakfast altogether rather than have guests wasting their time to come downstairs early in the morning and find they only offer a cheap yoghurt and scones accompanied by the dreadfully cold coffee.

Review 83:The room was clean and neat, looked recently renovated. The lobby is gorgeous and the hotel itself is a historic landmark in Eureka.

Review 84:Very poor facility which has a nice outside and a nice looking old lobby but the hotel is old and tired and dirty. Carpets everywhere stained. Room had no table lamp and poor ceiling lighting, no space in bathroom for personal items, no clock, no full length mirror. Breakfast room is tacky and "breakfast" basically Motel 6. Very nice bar with big fireplace ruined by diner-style grubby booths, pool tables and a juke box. Overall, a huge disappointment and definitely not worth it. You will be better off with one of the chain hotels on the strip.

Review 85:Location Nice staff

Review 86:nothing to dislike really, its such a great place to stay

Review 87:this place is amazing, it has warmth charecter and is a truely wonderful place to stay, beats the cookie cutter hotels by miles, yes it is undergoing renovation in some parts of the hotel (cant wait to see it when finished) but then it was empty for sometime!!! ...and did not cause any problems with our stay . The staff were great and very helpful we loved it here and were sad to leave

Review 88:There were a few minor repairs, like screws on windowsills, but you were touching up, and were kind enough to give us a first floor room. Really loved the hotel.

Review 89:Hotel is 1922; lobby has memorabilia and plays Bing Crosby. Whole town is Antique/Retro. You feel you are in the Stanley Hotel, but it's great: cabaret act and you are the only table; playing billiards to juke box tunes era of your choosing, but not your present. A pool! Plus, plus toilets the have a 2 option flush to conserve water that I have not seen since I went to Japan more than 10 years ago. Well done. Good staff!

Review 90:You exit the elevator into hallways would would expect from a 1920'sera Hotel. What is not expected is the musty smell throughout the Hotel.Much like an old basement.Room looked clean, but smelled worst than the hallway. Immediately turned on the fan and opened the window to air it out. Was surprised the window opened for a third story room, but thankful.Bed too soft for my taste, but personal preference so cannot really complain much there. Woke up several times to stretch out my back and attempt sleep again.Front desk was rarely manned. Finally after five attempts I found a staff member leaving the front desk to ask for the WIFI pass code.Phones in room do not ring to front deskWIFI needs work, can hook up but no Internet access.Morning shower presented mold on the shower curtains.Checkout Incident:The combination of lack of sleep, smell, and mold forced my wife and I to cut out stay short. Sore back, headache and nausea did put me into a rather sour mood, which did not help the situation that arose next.Upon checkout Silvia informed us we will be charged for a second night because we used booking.com instead of going directly through them.“Contact booking.com and if they say they will waive the charges then I will reimburse your card”.I opened my handy Booking app and clicked contact us. When the customer service rep came on, I informed her than the Hotel staff said both nights will be charged only because I used booking for the reservations. She asked for my information and like a normal husband I handed the phone to my wife.We were informed that booking will call the Hotel to see if they will waive the second nights charges, it is not up to booking to make that decision. Being lied to and wasting my time set me off, I did yell at Silvia and called her a liar (honest opinion under the circumstances). I was so angry that I had to step outside and let my wife handle the situation.Note to Silvia; always be honest with your customers.

Review 91:Four stories tall with varied roof-line elevations highlighted by stuccoand half-timbering the Eureka Inn just screams “Let me spoil you”. Fromwhat I am told, the remodeling of this historic building is stillunderway and it is hoped it will continue until it is back to itsoriginal grandeur status. The entrance we used took us past the pool, which is not open to the public just yet and past a very elegant and comfortable lounge. The main lobby, lounge, restaurant, and bar are well done, recreating the feel of the Ins heritage. When finished the Eureka Inn could provide a means to display thee hospitality and elegance some people enjoyed years past. Due to cost restraints, less expensive replications are used, such as chandeliers. The Eureka Inn is a wonderful building. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, but with the climate in Eureka AC is rarely needed. Besides, a place like this is stayed at for the experience. If remodeled back to original form and customer service brought up to standards that the hotel immolates, this Hotel will be able to easily raise it nightly rates.

Review 92:THE PALM LOUNGE!!! Be sure your room is as FAR AWAY as possible from the incessantly loud racket!! Our room was third floor above the lounge...impossible!! At midnight the night staff moved us to the opposite end of the inn. Better, but then the drunk party goers spilled outside below our window. Too bad such a gorgeous old historic inn has to have such an element that doesn't seem to go with the splendor of the history of the place.

Review 93:Loved the outside architecture. The lobby with dark wood, chandeliers, leather couches and antiques. The bedding was fabulous. The fact that it is on the Historic List.

Review 94:Loved that the hotel is keeping some of the vintage style that it must have had in its prime. Lovely waiting area with fireplace. Staff all very helpful and nice. Enjoyed the live music in the lounge/bar area. Would stay here again if we return to the area.

Review 95:Bathroom had no shelves to place toiletries. Lack of electric outlets a problem.

Review 96:Gorgeous European style hotel with fine restaurant on site. Rooms are recently renovated with luxurious bedding and tasteful decor. Plenty of free parking

Review 97:common areas very run down; carpets in terrible condition; ice maker have dismantled and left that way (I'm sure for a long time); I would never eat at the restaurant.

Review 98:good location and great architecture. Also nice lounge with live music. rooms were nice though, new beds, carpet and bathroom finishings, but no counter at all in the bathroom.

Review 99:The room itself was poorly lit. It has one dim overhead light and one lamp which was also dim. The outlets were hard to find. A second mirror in the room would have been nice along with a box of tissues and in a few places a second coat of paint is needed. A wedding took place at the hotel the day we arrived so there were a lot of loud guests in the hall and outside under our window, off an on, until late into the night, however, we did not hear people in the rooms next to us (but we were not sure if they were actually occupied). Overall a nice place to stay, but perhaps just a little overpriced.

Review 100:The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The room, and the entire facility, was very clean. The smoke detector needed a new battery (chirping loudly) and the staff promptly replaced it. The beds were firm but comfortable. The hotel is beautiful and has a lot of character but you can see where improvements need to be, and have been made. I would love to see it fully restored.

Review 101:People next door making to much noise and also outside our room. It doesn't have a microwave and a refrigerator inside the room, neither water or coffee for us to drink.

Review 102:We just spend few hours there, because we just drop our daughter to school, but it looks a nice building and we liked the room.

Review 103:The Eureka Inn had a renovation and I didn't see it before but… the elevator smelled of must and damp, the rooms were redone in a dark palette, with a cheap attempt at historical accuracy (i.e. ceiling light fixtures from Home Depot in a retro style). A tiny very, old heater was all the heat we had, plastic cups for water, soda machine in a hallway (not very historical). Dark carpets, dim lights, gloomy, even haunted feeling about the hotel and, alas, the town.

Review 104:Too far from San Francisco. No ghosts, no murders.

Review 105:Crazy place. Old, strange, fake fireplace, good bar/pub, jazz music, billiard, your own private restaurant. Peculiar staff, old pictures, partly renovated.

Review 106:There were no ammenities in the room. No coffee maker and norefrigerator or microwave. The pool was also closed. The hallwaysdidn't smell good, old and musty. I thought the prices were too highfor what you got.

Review 107:I grew up in Eureka and always wanted to stay there . I knew it hadrecently been renivated so wanted to give it a try . The roomsthemselves were nice, the beds very comfortable.

Review 108:The famous lounge at the Inn was closed on Sunday nights and I wish that had been more clearly stated as I was booking the room.

Review 109:Bed & bedding were fantastic! Best sleep I had on my trip.

Review 110:The hotel is in the middle of a rejuvenation of sorts, so parts were a little rundown. Rooms need a few more outlets for charging devices.

Review 111:I liked the visual history of the hotel and the architecture. I can't wait to come back to see this hotel fully restored and bustling again.

Review 112:Front desk clerk seemed tipsy. Carpets in bad need of cleaning. Smelled musky like a second hand store. Very few outlets to charge electronics. In process of renovation . Exterior doors and outside walkways need a good scrub.

Review 113:Very quiet, thick walls. Walking distance to downtown. Old building, fixtures, moldings were nice to gaze upon.

Review 114:Breakfast wasn't very good, pool area was shabby and was closed - not pleasant to look at while eating meager breakfast. Bar patrons smoking outside near lobby entrance.

Review 115:Quaint and charming, updated room and bathroom with amenities, friendly staff.

Review 116:Was a little confused when the King room I booked started a conversation about availability, and then ended in getting a king deluxe which appeared to be the room built to accommodate wheelchairs.

Review 117:Very friendly staff, nice room kept in good repair. Looks like it was a newly remodeled bathroom.

Review 118:Our room was small and dark. There was an orange tank top left from a previous guest hanging on the hower curtain rod. When we called for extra towels we had to pick up from the front desk. Keys used for hotel room without an additional security lock from the inside. The kids were disappointed that the pool was closed.

Review 119:There is definitely historic charm and it is a few blocks from d town Eureka.

Review 120:No jacuzzi

Review 121:The carpet and the lounge

Review 122:Could have ether parking facilities

Review 123:Ambiance, friendly staff

Review 124:Dingy, old shady place. Building looks haunted, not a soul there.

Review 125:Cool with lots of history. Not quite at its former glory but really nice move to bring back as a comfortable and modern Inn

Review 126:once i got to the hotel i felt like being in a (horror)movie old fashion building that should need a big restauration

Review 127:room and bathroom just renewed

Review 128:No actually in room

Review 129:Historic place and atmosphere

Review 130:Totally torn chair at the front desk- not a good impression

Review 131:There were ants crawling all over me and told the front desk.

Review 132:It the middle of being remodeled and couldn't use the pool. Unpleasant old smell in the room and wifi did not work.

Review 133:Victorian style hotel and town

Review 134:The History and character of the hotel.

Review 135:Windows difficult to deal with due to age.

Review 136:I liked the old decor and style of the building.

Review 137:Helpful receptionist.

Review 138:Loved the ambiance.
