Reviews for The Holland Hotel
Review 1:The sink was located inside the bathroom which made getting ready for anything with multiple people difficult. There is no place to sit in the breakfast area - any food in the continental breakfast had to be taken back to the room although there was not room to sit there either. The front desk attendant also said that the reservation was more limited due to it being through booking.com and that we should call the hotel directly next time. We only found out about the hotel due its listing in booking.com.
Review 2:Location was good and the parking was free. The room was also very clean, but very small. Check-in was easy with no complications.
Review 3:A elevator and a bigger lobby with a place to sit down to eat would be nice. However I wouldn't change a thing.
Review 4:The staff was very courteous and helpful.the cleaning staff was quite an efficient. I never seen them bang on someone's door to see if the room was empty. Our room was always clean and fresh. The pastries and coffee are worth the stay.... free parking is a big plus.
Review 5:When I made the reservation I asked for an ADA room or a room with a walkin shower and said my husband has difficulty walking. They never mentioned there wasn't an elevator. Our room was down two sets of stairs. Thankfully they did assist us with our luggage. The room smelled as if insect spray had been used. The only windows were at a walkway level designated for smoking with a bench. Although we arrived at 11pm the smoking area was in use for hours so the scent of cigarettes and laughter kept us awake.
Review 6:It was near freeway.
Review 7:No elevator, which is fairly inconvenient when carrying luggage up a narrow flight of stairs. I suppose you could ask for ground level. You also have to carry your breakfast up to your room, which isn't all that bad.
Review 8:Location is great, only a short walk to the path. Price is very reasonable. Continental breakfast
Review 9:I would like to sugest some kind of a tray the guests can use for breakfast. It will make life way more easy, specially to carry a cup of coffee with something like a bowl of porridge or whatever!
Review 10:Mattresses need improvement.
Review 11:The staff was so helpful and nice. They exceeded my expectations. The room was plain and the mattress needs improvement but the room was surprisingly very clean. Great location and easy access to the Path train.
Review 12:Because the hotel lays directly on the street next to the Holland tunnel, it can get very noisy in the night. Ask for a room, which lays on the parkingslot side if you have trouble with sleeping next to a road, the personal will gladly help you out!
Review 13:The rooms were excelent for what you had to pay! Big bed, nice shower, good wifi and an excelent breakfast joice in the morning (Inclouded), further on the personal was extremly friendly and never hesitated to help!
Review 14:Everything was fine
Review 15:Excellent location and decent public transport connection to NYC Very good breakfast (like shown in the photo), included in price, with free coffee all day long. Clean and tidy rooms and facilities; friendly and helpful staff; free wifi; plenty of parking space.
Review 16:Everything was perfect.
Review 17:Excellent location and decent public transport connection to NYC. Very good breakfast. Clean and tidy rooms and facilities; friendly and helpful staff; free wifi; plenty of parking space.
Review 18:Our credit card did not go through while we were on the plane, so we heard only upon arrival that our reservation was cancelled. Luckily another room was available so everything was fine in the end.
Review 19:Excellent location and decent public transport connection to NYC (10min walk to the station + 20-ish min ride to Manhattan; slightly longer ride during nights and weekends) Very good breakfast (like shown in the photo), included in price, with free coffee all day long. (There is no dining area; we picked up our breakfast and had it in the room.) Clean and tidy rooms and facilities; friendly and helpful staff; free wifi; plenty of parking space.
Review 20:The auntie at the front desk is friendly and patient but the other staffs are impatient and sometimes quite unfriendly.
Review 21:the price is cheaper if you want to visit NY. It is not that far from Manhattan
Review 22:A little warm inside the room but not really disturbing.
Review 23:Location close to Newport Mall and PATH station. Gets you into Manhattan within 15-20 minutes. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We arrived int the early morning but could check in immediately.
Review 24:THE BATHROOM HAD HAIR AND MOLD IN IT THE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS WERE DIFFICULT TO FIND FOR CHARGING PHONES ETC AND THE OUTLET IN MY ROOM BY THE BED WAS BROKEN
Review 25:THE DESK STAFF WAS VERY NICE AND ACCOMIDATING THE BREKFAST BAR AND AVAILABLE PARKING
Review 26:If you're expecting a marriott, this isn't the place for you. Bare minimum that you need, but really when you're visiting all you need is a bed to sleep in and a shower to get ready! I will definitely stay here again.
Review 27:The location is PERFECT! Seriously, this is a great deal for visiting the city. SUPER close to the PATH - it's not like you're spending all your time in your room when you're visiting NYC anyways.
Review 28:No iron in room but I did see a member of the staff with one so we could have called down. The power in out room went out the first night so we had no lights or tv. Luckily we didn't have anything in the fridge and it was fixed the next day while we were out. Didn't happen again during the next 2 nights
Review 29:Very friendly staff and decent continental breakfast. Room fully equipped with micro refirdigerator and tv and hair dryer. Not the fanciest hotel but a great deal for the price
Review 30:The hotel needs a larger sign, I almost drove right past it.
Review 31:I liked the location of the hotel because it was close to the holland tunnel and Liberty state park where I was going. It was comfortable and clean and the whole staff was extremely helpful with finding places to eat.
Review 32:Location was simply the best. Close to nearby restaurants and subway (PATH). Staff were very friendly and did look after the guests which was extremely helpful when we had a luggage lost. Breakfast was 5 stars every morning!!
Review 33:When I stayed in #18 there was continues notice from plumping. Next time when I stayed on the second floor there was no notice.
Review 34:A really good price for this location. In comparison to regular Wifi in hotels the Internet connection here is pretty good.
Review 35:The hotel seems to be in need of an update, it has a very 80s vibe: think carpets everywhere, mahogany, brown walls, pink suites. One thing I didn't like are the synthetic bed sheets, I much prefer cotton, especially when it's warm. Although it was a no-smoking room, there still was a mixture of damp/smoke smell that permeated everything and because you on a busy road, opening the windows was not really an option. As mentioned, breakfast is served in the lobby but you have to take it to your room. For what you get it's indeed VERY overpriced, on the other hand, it's New York so I guess this is as good as it gets!
Review 36:As mentioned by other reviewers the staff is indeed lovely and very helpful and although it's located in a very un-attractive location (literally at the entrance of Holland Tunnel) the connections to Manhattan are excellent. A variety of eateries are available in the food court of the nearby mall and the area feels generally safer. It looks quite clean although with carpet on the floors you can never really tell.
Review 37:I liked the fact that staying at the Holland hotel was much cheaper than the ones located directly in NYC. It was my first time visiting NYC and it was very easy to get on the path and the Holland tunnel into NYC.
Review 38:Just to take into consideration; the building does not have elevators.
Review 39:Excellent location near to The Newport Mall and PATH Station (Newport). All the personnel were so nice and the building looks that was recently renovated. You have the opportunity to take a breakfast to go because they did not have enough space in the reception area.
Review 40:The roads I had to take to get to the Hotel. Someone decided it was a great idea to dig up the roads and put detours everywhere.
Review 41:The location was great and the price was reasonable considering it was so close to New York.
Review 42:Double blocking of 100% on the card. No unblocking (from the hotel ) during 16 days. Non professional staff - rude mistakes and check in. No elevator.
Review 43:Location and clean more or less
Review 44:Wish we could have stayed longer. Had to go home.
Review 45:The customer service was above and beyond normal. Very helpful, courteous and efficient. Room was spotless and very comfortable. Only blocks away from the PATH train. Felt safe walking.
Review 46:I didn't have a bad experience. However, the negatives were: no elevator and the accommodations are rather old.
Review 47:The room was clean and quiet. Had TV and free wi fi, plus a very nice continental breakfast.
Review 48:Extremely noisy, hence not much sleep, breakfast was very basic, asked for jug of water during the day and staff not very helpful, nearest subway is a good 15min walk. right next to Holland tunnel which has traffic bumper to bumper all day
Review 49:The room smelled a little funny when we entered. Kinda smelled like a closed room. It was fine after some breathing.
Review 50:Convenience of travel to NYC. Close to path station, Holland tunnel. Close to a mall, Grocery stores, etc.
Review 51:There was no elevator, while stair is realy narrow. Sound of outer traffic is very loud.
Review 52:Great location, very frendly staff, good breakfast (especially for New-York)
Review 53:If you come in the night, you might have one eye more open in case. Maybe it is an Europe tradition, but there was no Soap (liquid)
Review 54:The personal was really kind, and helpful. Good location with close location to the train station which would take you to Newark airport as well as Manhattan
Review 55:Nothing.
Review 56:I love this hotel!! It has very nice location. Staff is very cute and helpful, breakfast was sooo good. Bed is so huge that even I couldn't find my husband in it ! :) I like everything!
Review 57:Very friendly staff - always well organised, responsive and knowledgeable about the local area, transport links etc. The room was clean, well maintained and comfortable.
Review 58:the staff was amazing, especially the front desk, Quinton was amazing very knowledgeable of the area and whenever we had questions about where to eat or go he had amazing places he requested even down to exactly where they were located! I have been here three times this year and my stay here all three times were absolutely amazing! Great job Holland Hotel keep up the awesome work:-)
Review 59:Noisy - right next to 10 lane road. Breakfast nice but a bit awkward they way it is available but no breakfast room or plates provided to take it back to your room...4-cup cardboard holders instead.
Review 60:easy access to New York by train.
Review 61:The only thing I didn't really like was that there weren't many places to go for a quick dinner. I wanted to walk a little after work but couldn't find anything. They should have a little neighborhood map with places to go. My last nite there I found a park, Italian rest. & a ice cream shop with fun flavors. Wish I would have known about it on the 1st night.
Review 62:The staff were nice, professional, knowledgable and took pride in their work. The rooms were comfotable and clean. The danishs that they put out were amazing. I don't eat sweets much but by the 2nd day I couldn't resist. It doesn't happen often but they were as good as they looked. This was my 1st trip to NJ for work and will stay there again when I go back next month.
Review 63:Breakfast is a bit poor but for a couple of days is ok.
Review 64:Close to the PATH, easy to get to/from Newark airport as well a to/from Manhattan. There is a big mall a couple of blocks away with shopping and dining facilities. A few blocks away there is a big grocery store as well.
Review 65:excelent i will stay there again and again it is very well located convenience storenear by and the best part is no driving nto N Y city great value staf super nice
Review 66:location is good for travelers who want a convenient place to stay without the high price of an NYC hotel, sort of old furnishings yet nice and clean interior. standard continental breakfast. It was my own fault for not realizing from the listing, but rooms didn't have an iron.
Review 67:The twin beds were really small and I did feel squashed up against the wall. Ideal for only two people probably but with the four of us we could have used a bit more sleeping soace.
Review 68:Nice hotel with friendly staff and good facilities. They were very friendly to our two boys as well and we loved the real American breakfast and continues coffee supply.
Review 69:The only problem we had was how to work the shower, everyday we used it became better so we felt guests should have instructions on how to use it, as we felt like we were going to break it when you had to pull it out so hard.
Review 70:We loved how friendly, chatty and polite the staff were, they made it very homely for us as we stayed 7 nights. They helped answer any questions on the area and any problems with the rooms.
Review 71:I appreciated the "breakfast" though danishes, croissants and muffins is not what I consider breakfast.
Review 72:Location ideal if staying in NJ; about a 10 min walk to PATH station. Staff friendly and rooms clean.
Review 73:A little bit noisy on the first night. But overall it's fine.
Review 74:Free parking, free wifi. The location is great, short walk to PATH. Very affordable price for bedroom with two beds compared with hotels in Manhattan. Nice little reception area for coffee and pastry.
Review 75:We weather was pleasant for the walk to the Path station. If you have difficulty walking about 5 blocks and dislike the subway, it would not be pleasant for you.
Review 76:The friendly helpful staff. My cell had to be charged and the receptionist let me use her cell, rather than incur a phone fee!!!!
Review 77:Advertised Wifi access is a lie. There is no breakfast room. Breakfast buffet is set up in the lobby, with no tables/chairs. The expectation is that you carry everything back to the room on a tray. This is not something that is communicated via the photos or text of the website. A/C is very loud.
Review 78:The departure.
Review 79:Unfriendly female manager
Review 80:The location was amazing. A 10 minute-walk from the Newport PATH station to the hotel. Staff were nice. Value for money - with free bfast, parking and WIFI.
Review 81:One day stay at room in basement which was damp and no restaurant at hotel.
Review 82:Customer service, interaction with hotel staff, relevant information provided, additional facilities, storage of luggage for whole day, location.
Review 83:expensive taxis to/from NY; no elevator, no dining room for breakfast - you have to bring it up to your room and eat there;
Review 84:we were lucky with the view - empire state building :); comfortable room with the fridge and a microwaive, convenient transport by train to NY ($2.75 in one direction, 15 minutes to the station and then 10 min to the center)
Review 85:No problems - ever!
Review 86:Can't say enough good things about this place - I've stayed her 6 times this year. Quality is consistent for every room. Super clean! Helpful and friendly staff. Great location and free parking.
Review 87:If you have a disability, please be aware that there is a ramp to the middle floor but only stairs to the upper and below ground floors. Not a problem for me, but let the staff be aware at booking so you are placed on floor 1.
Review 88:The Holland is the best value and quality you could possible want. Despite proximity to the Holland Tunnel, noise has not been a problem (and I have stayed her 5+ times this year). Free parking is great (notice that ALL the other hotels in the area will cost $20 or more per night for parking)
Review 89:The exchange rate from US to Canadian. The hotel is a great bargain overall, but the exchange rate makes it a little more. Still, impossible to find better and more convenient.
Review 90:Location, parking, breakfast, cleanliness, affordable, Path train, accommodating staff... Enough said?
Review 91:Bit of a small bathroom, but not cramped. Very loud conversations from the cleaning staff outside our room when sleeping in until 11am after a long drive and long day in the city. Though at 11am most people are gone anyways, can't really blame them
Review 92:Room was nice, all was clean and in order. It was big enough for my comfort. Great location. Just an 8 minute or so walk to the PATH trains. Seemed like an okay neighborhood.
Review 93:The staff were very helpful and courteous. It was located very close to a PATH and we were able to quickly get into NYC and to our destination. It was located across the river from NYC, and near the Holland Tunnel. I was worried we would hear noise from traffic, but didn't hear any, and slept perfectly! Very great experience overall! Any lower ratings were really only because while it was very nice, I have stayed in nicer, but it was really very lovely!
Review 94:No complaints
Review 95:Location: Easy access to Manhattan by car the Holland Tunnel (across the street) or PATH train (about a 10 minute walk). Easy, free parking.
Review 96:The air in our room was not very cold and it was not comfortable at times. the lobby is not a good location for the continental breakfast, its too small and too much congestion there.
Review 97:The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean.
Review 98:The Hotel is very clean, but I stayed in a room that had a cigar/smoke smell.
Review 99:Coffee and tea always available. Rooms facing the parking are were very quiet.
Review 100:left items in room and they wouldn't mail back with credit card info but suggested mailing empty box and have fed ex pick up.
Review 101:Free parking. Close to mall and liberty state park. Clean room!!
Review 102:The odor from the (main floor) washroom seemed to leak through the stairs and corridors. A vent with automatic shut-off feature would help. Our reserved non-smoking room slightly smelled cigarette smoke....would help if non'smoking rules be emphasized to every guest upon check in and cleaners spray the room right after cleaning, so room is odor- free for the next incoming guest.
Review 103:Great customer service! I needed help in turning on the air conditioning unit the night we checked in - the Manager himself came to check the AC and turned it on. I requested a transfer to another room, the following morning a room was available for us to move into. Free continental breakfast and parking are a great 'come on' to prospective guests-you can hardly find free parking in any other 2 star hotels in Newport JC!
Review 104:We need better Space for breakfast
Review 105:Nice and clean, I spend one week with my wife and two kids (5&8 Yrs). The location near to holland tunnel is great. Most of facilities is around including shopping mall,Target and best buy. Thanks for reception staff eith their guidance when we were asking about any information. Safe area and free parking gave us lot of peace of mind. I do recommend it for either individual or couples or families.
Review 106:The breakfast area was cramped and hard to get access to the food.
Review 107:The staff was helpful in answering all our questions about the area, including the PATH! They provided room service every day and gave us extra towels cheerfully.
Review 108:The fact that the breakfast that there is very little choices of fruits in the breakfast and that there is no place to eat. We have to eat in our rooms....with small children, I would have liked to have tables to eat....we are stuck at the reception all at the same time.....Aslo, we had trouble with wi-fi, very very slow......
Review 109:The location, 10 minutes walk from train, very clean, very quiet on the parking side, free parking and breakfast. Really loved the place!!
Review 110:Perfect location for our visit. Rooms and bathrooms were exceptionally clean. Staff were welcoming, attentive and professional. Breakfast was basic - but fresh and appealing to everyone in my group.
Review 111:Small rooms, small beds, small bathroom. Not comfortable with two kids. Traffic noise.
Review 112:Perfect location. Easy to access path train to NYC. Free car parking.
Review 113:If you can make the internet faster. The breakfast place if you can do it in a bigger space and add more choices like meat, eggs etc.
Review 114:The location is the best!
Review 115:It would be helpful if they actually had a seating or table area for continental breakfast however the breakfast was more than enough and you were able to bring it back to the room with a tray.
Review 116:The facilities were extremely clean and a convenient location to NYC. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and went out of their way to assist with any questions.
Review 117:I was in a room that allowed me to hear the ice machine until late into the night. The lobby/breakfast area was very cramped and crowded.
Review 118:The breakfast was excellant considering the cramped quarters. There was always fresh hot coffee. The staff deserves a two thumbs up. Very accomodating.
Review 119:Wi Fi was slow, breakfast choices are limited.
Review 120:This hotel is a 5 min walk from the PATH station, which takes you into NY. From there is a short walk to the subway, then you can go anywhere. I did the research, it was $400-600 cheaper than a comparable hotel across the river for 4 nights.
Review 121:they charge me the first night dobble, because I use a different credit card from the one I reserve with, they give the bank order to put the money back, but it's about 3 weeks and I still didn't receive the payment. I hope it will be fixt.
Review 122:staff was very friendly and helpfull and very clean
Review 123:The lobby and entrance areas are extremely small, creating a minor jam of people at times. The room was cooled by a window air unit, not a central room unit, making it noisy and not as easy to control temperature. The room and bathroom are very small for having two beds/sleeping 4 people.
Review 124:The staff are friendly, prompt and helpful, the beds are comfortable and the location to Path stations made for an easy walk.
Review 125:I was highly impressed with the Holland Hotel. The price is right, location is great and the rooms are clean. The bed was comfy and we had zero issues with noise from the road. The staff was friendly and professional. It is a smaller hotel but was perfect for what we were looking for. A place to stay in Jersey City that was within walking distance to the path. The walk to the path was easy and safe. We would stay here again!
Review 126:Room is a little small, but we had 4 adults so I guess I can't really complain about that.
Review 127:Second time we used this hotel. It's a nice place for the price. We like the fact that it is a 10 min. walk to the path station.
Review 128:The stay was very good and the staff was very friendly. In fact they called us back to inform that we had forgotten our mobile charger. That was very nice of them.
Review 129:We stayed for three nights in this hotel. We chose this one because it was pretty close to the city and parking was free. The room was actually very big for the three of us. There was lots of space for our numerous suitcases. The room was very clean. Although the Holland Tunnel was right next to us we did not hear a thing. Breakfast was good. Staff was very nice and friendly. Right next to the hotel was a Burger King and a couple min walk was a Papa John’s Pizza and also a Target. The Path train station was about 8 min walk away from the hotel. And the ticket to NYC costs about $ 2,75 per Ride and Person. It took us about 15 Minutes to the city which was very good. I can highly recommend this Hotel when you have a car and need free parking which is not available in NYC. Actually parking is pretty expensive there. We booked over booking.com and the price was awesome.
Review 130:For us the location was perfect as we wanted to leave our vehicle and visit NYC by train/subway. The Path station is an easy 10 min walk. They let us leave our car in their lot all day on the day we checked out. The staff was super nice and the room comfortable.
Review 131:small rooms Nothing special with a 3 star rating
Review 132:Close to train travel (10 min walk) to take you to NYC. Clean but small rooms. Breakfast was cold cereal, pastries, yogurt, & fruit. Nothing special with a 3 star rating
Review 133:The Holland was very clean and very convenient. The room was simple and not large, but as a base for day trips to Jersey City and NYC, it was perfect. The included breakfast was better than I expected!
Review 134:No elevator - not a problem for me and I will certainly stay again, but anyone with difficulty carrying luggage up and down stairs should be aware.
Review 135:Incredibly clean. Excellent desk staff. Free parking in Jersey City!!!! Regarding noise: my room was on the lowest floor with windows at the level of traffic entering the Holland Tunnel yet there was no noise problem from outside.
