Reviews for Oceano Hotel and Spa Half Moon Bay Harbor

Review 1:hot water temp was tepid...

Review 2:Easy check in and out...very nice room ..quiet ...off season. Parking was wonderful, elevator from parking garage ...cant be beat.

Review 3:Poor quality coffee, poor wuality tea, not sufficiently hot water for brewing coffee or tea. Breakfast was not included in our stay.

Review 4:Location, spacious family suite, nice living and kitchenette area, large bathroom.

Review 5:The hotel is clean and the in room fireplaces are great. Typical marine feeling hotel.Half Moon Bay is so pretty. A bit pricey for the age of the place, but typical ocean view pricing. Did have a highway between hotel and the actual ocean. Had to cross the street to be right up alongside of it.

Review 6:The real problem existed because we booked through a third party (Booking.com). We were unable to get a better room or upgrade without paying and extreme amount of money. We could have just booked directly with property, paid even less for the stay and been able to upgrade. The property was not at all busy, but because we booked through Booking.com we had to stay in an adjacent property, not the main hotel. It was referred to as "The Inn". Had to walk to get ice, we felt very isolated, no other guests or services at "third-party" guest rooms. We should not have used Booking.com.

Review 7:Enjoyed the view and convenient location. The main hotel property was clean and very well maintained. The adjacent property for "third party" bookings was not at all like main property. It was the remodeled "Inn".

Review 8:One thin blanket with a slippery cover that would not stay on the bed. The heater was extremely noisy and it was a very cold night.

Review 9:The welcoming staff. The fireplace in the room. Very comfortable room.

Review 10:The hotel is overrated, and I don't think it was worth the money. Breakfast was not included.

Review 11:The room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful.

Review 12:Checking in early evening, it would have been good if staff had mentioned local restaurants start to close as early as 8.30 pm. Going out at 11 am, room was not cleaned until 4 pm (after our return). No breakfast available Monday/Tuesday.

Review 13:A large suite, very comfortable room, good bathroom.

Review 14:Would love to have bath SHEETS and all of the towels could be softer. The face towels are super rough and if you have small or arthritic hands tough to ring face towel dry. Can be noisy in hallway. Someone was dragging the ice machine across the floor for repair. Disturbing my rest.

Review 15:Love the location. The rooms are spacious. The ocean facing patios are a super addition. Nice to have underground parking. Lobby fireplace inviting.

Review 16:Our fireplace didn't work on the first night...But they sent someone out the next day and took care of it...

Review 17:Great location....Quite and peaceful...

Review 18:Pretty small and basic room for the price. They put us in a old detached building that was not part of the main hotel, there was no elevator so we had to drag our luggage up stairs and so did everyone else as we heard luggage slamming on every step every time someone checked in or out, our room was over a busy street so i didnt get much sleep because of traffic noise and drunk people screaming on the sidewalk all night, there was a water leak in bathroom so the maintenance guy being in my bathroom for hours was not good and we did not get our room cleaned in the 2 days we were there so we ran out of toilet paper, coffee, towels, etc... oh yeh and wifi was weak.

Review 19:The room was nice and clean. Close to allot of places to eat and shop.

Review 20:Maid service failed to service our room. Desk did not return a call to correct the situation. It required a visit to the manager who finally sent a maid up at 5 pm but with no apology for the mistake.

Review 21:Beautiful, spacious rooms with view of the harbor. Well decorated and maintained. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Within walking distance of several restaurants.

Review 22:The bathroom door was broken and the room, although nicely decorated, seemed run down; broken blinds/shutters, worn carpet, barely functional air conditioning unit.

Review 23:The location and the main hotel. We were put in the 'inn' next door.

Review 24:There were very few channels to watch on television, especially since the NLCS was on and we did not get to see it in our room.

Review 25:Great hotel and location. Several places within walking distance to eat.

Review 26:The curtains blocked half the view. ... but the half we did enjoy was very peaceful.

Review 27:Quiet, clean, location. Surprisingly pleasant. The room photos do not do the hotel justice.

Review 28:The road in front of my room spoiled the view and the ambiance.

Review 29:Convenience. Comfort. Half Moon Bay location near the ocean and marina. Room service was great.

Review 30:Loved the room, the view(we were in the main bldg) and location was excellent.Close to good restaraunts. We parked (good parking) and didn't need to drive anywhere. We walked everywhere. Will stay more than one nite next time!

Review 31:The promised 'Sea View' was rather disappointing. Our room terrace faced a fairy busy service road, with a car park opposite, then we could see the masts of a few moored boats and if you were lucky on a clear day, you might catch a glimpse of the sea beyond! The hotel was also very busy with a conference which spilled out into the corridors meaning we had to fight our way through a crowd to get to and from our room.

Review 32:Nice large rooms and in a good location.

Review 33:First night we encountered a passéd out, vomiting guest in the corridor to our room. My husband finally offered our luggage cart to transport him away. 2nd night we saw another passed out woman on a sofa in main lobby area. Disagreeable for the amount we paid for room!

Review 34:Loved the comfort and space of the room. Also the proximity to a number of restaurants.

Review 35:Read the small print !!! We were put in the Oceano 'Inn' an older building adjacent to the hotel/spa. No lift, wi-fi terrible.

Review 36:Location of hotel good.

Review 37:Our villa unit was great and spacious with kitchen. The only thing better would have been if we had been assigned a villa overlooking the bay rather than parking lot.

Review 38:I liked the location. Amazing ocean views just 35 minutes from SFO airport. Can't beat it.

Review 39:We stayed in the annex and were told we could not receive a wake up call because services were not extended to the rooms in the annex. Felt like we were second class citizens

Review 40:Weddings both nights with tent for reception under our balcony. With no sound insulation the music blasting so loud we could barely hold a conversation in the room. That band competed with restaurant band next door each getting louder and louder till 11pm. Desk was no help. Went to bar for quiet and bartender was continuing alcohol service to drunk patrons using loud and vulgar language. Hotel looked classy but it's not! Analog TVs not HD

Review 41:Beautiful hotel, nice room, bay view

Review 42:Booked a room with the expectation of having a large soaking bathtub. Not worth the price, especially when your view is of the parking lot.

Review 43:Staff was really nice when checking in. Fireplace in the room.

Review 44:It was overpriced for a villa that had the bedroom upstairs with no air conditioning. We had to have a noisy portable fan brought to the room. The view was of the parking lot & the villa was not attached to the main hotel, so when our keys didn't work, we had a long walk to the lobby.

Review 45:I liked that it was in walking distance to several restaurants & across the street from the harbor.

Review 46:Beds were a little too close together and the vending machine was empty

Review 47:Location was perfect.....lots of restaurants, brewerys, shops, and bars within walking distance

Review 48:no pool, its a bit strange

Review 49:I dont know why people said bad thing about this hotel, it's perfect, I had been travelling with kids for 10 consecutive days this is the 2nd best hotel we stay.

Review 50:Pushed out to annexe not in main hotel, this was not made clear at time of booking. Bathrooms need updating.

Review 51:It was OK, next to marina and close to bars and restaurants.

Review 52:The staff greeted me at a late hour and were bright and helpful. The room was large and well done with the coastal theme. Very functional - robes, hair dryer - extra touches that I didn't need but appreciated such as a sound machine (for sleep) and earplugs. Loved the view, the coffee and the sounds of the harbor!

Review 53:It appeared housekeeping was in a hurry to clean our room. We found cigarette butts on the patio. Carpet looked not vacuumed and found fake eye lashes on the table. Our sofa bed did not have a sofa bed, so staff brought in a rollout bed

Review 54:Great value

Review 55:Hotel website calls rooms in older building suites ....no comparison to the rooms in larger/newer building. when booking thru 3rd party booking website....your reservation will say suite with seaside view. What they don't tell you is the hotel also calls the inferior older rooms suites.....and they'll place you in one of these older rooms. Like I said...no comparison. My initial room in the older building (#1) had a shower that didn't drain...and water would have crested over the shower threshold. I requested a new room....staff immediately put me in a "True" suite....which the 3rd party "Booking.com" led me to believe I was originally reserving. Very shady practice. I had two other rooms reserved....and those folks were placed in the inferior rooms. After I complained....I was told the other guests could have been moved to the large building for a $30 upgrade. Had this been offered at the initial check in....we would have accepted. I feel like this hotel knows the rooms in the older building are a tough sell ....so they let a booking agent sell them....and the hotel legally gets away with this by calling or listing/showing a picture of the older rooms as well as the newer rooms suites....so when you check in...having used a 3rd party booking agent...the hotel reserves these older rooms for you. Quite obvious....very poor in my opinion.

Review 56:True suites in main building are very nice.

Review 57:The Inn....not the same as the pictures, still cute but the bathrooms are a joke. And the constant honking from the harbor prevents you from opening windows. We had an isolated incident that prompted the move, which the staff was totally on the ball moving us.

Review 58:Once we were moved from their Inn to the main building the experience was fantastic! Beautiful facility!!!!

Review 59:The shower in my room didn't work. it seemed to me that housekeeping would have caught that upon cleaning the room. Put a damper on my plans not having a shower.

Review 60:A lovely, top notch hotel. Very professional/proper. Elegant decor right across the street from the marina. Staff very friendly. Rectified a problem by the next day and received compensation for my trouble. Joel was awesome!

Review 61:I don't like the lady on the front desk because I booked and prepay online for a suite room in the Oceano Hotel and Spa but when I checked in, she give me the Oceano Inn room which is not so desirable and separate building from Oceano Hotel. Upon the entrance of the Oceano Inn, it smells bad like urine and the room has the funky tub, so had to call the front desk and they move me to the other building but with an additional money to upgrade. One thing that makes me booked this Hotel is the Spa which they offer Milk and Honey Tea Bath before massage but to my disappointment they don't offer bath anymore..Hmmm

Review 62:I like the location of the property with its ocean view and its clean.

Review 63:No Microwave. Could not make our own tea. Bar is closed on Mon and Tues in high season. We had to ask for toilet paper, was not supplied. We brought our own silverware and the maid walked off with it. We asked front desk to check never responded. This hotel offers nothing for the price. We don't mind paying but we want at least some service.

Review 64:Nothing

Review 65:Tried to cancel minutes after booking. Called the third party who I booked with that I had made an error and they tried to help me out to cancel. Manager would not let me out of the reservation! Too expensive for what they offer. No pool, no beach access. $99.00 cancellation fee

Review 66:Hotel was clean and comfortable. The location was close to restaurants.

Review 67:Were unable to really enjoy the view because of traffic noise.

Review 68:Room and room service were excellent. Your staff is very considerate, friendly, polite, and helpful. Please tell them thank you.

Review 69:Nothing bad to report.

Review 70:Beautiful view, Clean, Spacious and Comfortable Room. Great Staff & Wonderful Spa Experience! Everything was perfect. Even had a nice gas fireplace for extra calming and relaxing atmosphere. Convenient to San Francisco and also an beautiful ride down the coast to Monterey and Carmel.

Review 71:Walls so thin we could hear the man in next room snoring. Mattress too hard for my particular taste, linens less than luxurious.

Review 72:Beautifully decorated room in a great location. Wonderful bathroom with high end products.

Review 73:I booked the Oceano, but was escorted to the newly purchased Pillar Point Inn now operated under the Oceano name. The room smelled of mildew, had missing doorknobs and a slow sink. Instead of a view overlooking the bay like the main Oceano building, my room was right on the road with noisy traffic from 5 am to midnight. I felt that I got something very different than what was represented. Make sure you ask if you are in the main building!

Review 74:The town of pillar point is wonderful and Half Moon Bay is close for shopping. I had a great treatment at the Oceano spa.

Review 75:Bell Service could be improved. Asked for assistance. Never happened. Ended up going to find a bell cart on our own and taking items to our room.

Review 76:Great Location on Harbor. View Room with 3rd Floor Balcony. Able to walk to a number of shops, restaurants and bars in the area.

Review 77:There was a reunion downstairs in the lobby and the crowd noise traveled to our top 3rd floor...even close to midnight. I called the lobby and they could not do anything about it.

Review 78:Partial water view. Big room and clean.

Review 79:They put is in their Pillar Pt Inn property instead of Oceana. We thought we were getting the actual Oceana Hotel. It was very inferior to the Oceana, which we have stayed at. We talked to very nice manager and he said the it was stated in the fine print. However he gave us a gift certificate for another night at Oceana. Excellent Customer Service and we are looking forward to returning.

Review 80:The location, views, nearby restaurants.

Review 81:The website is misleading. We didn't stay in the main hotel as expected but the hotel adjacent which is called Pillar Point Inn. The king size bed was a bit hard, otherwise the room was fine but would have been nice to know when we booked what we were getting.

Review 82:We loved the bay window overlooking the harbor with window seat, and the gas fireplace. The location was excellent with lots of great dining places within walking distance. Sam's Chowder House was our favorite!

Review 83:Could have been cleaner. The pillows were a bit musty. The walls were a bit marked up. No Closet-just a small wardrobe.

Review 84:The view, atmosephere and roominess

Review 85:The only thing that I would suggest is that they add higher tables and chairs on the balcony as we were eye level with the balcony rail, other than that it was perfect.

Review 86:My wife and I stayed at the Pillar Point Inn which is part of Oceano Hotel. Our room did not have its own balcony however, there was a shared balcony and we happened to have it to ourselves. It was a great view of the pier with all of the sounds of HMB. Our bed was nice and firm, perfect! We will stay again.

Review 87:Oceania has an adjunct building which is called, I think, the Pillar Point Inn which is not connected to the main building--in fact you have to dial a local number to get the desk. This group of rooms has no balconies and limited harbor views. Was not clear when I booked that we were booking into this adjunct building, which was disappointing

Review 88:Lovely location on the harbor.

Review 89:We enjoy everything about Oceano...in fact we stay here on our birthdays and anniversary as well. Love it.

Review 90:Everything...this is my wife and my favorite place to stay when in half moon bay.

Review 91:Noisy, needs better sound proofing other than complimentary ear plugs. Curtains not dark enough No breakfast available until 08.30am

Review 92:Bed was good and the room comfortable

Review 93:could not figure out the wifi, tv didn't offer Dish network or other first run films

Review 94:gorgeous room, location, view, staff responsive to every request

Review 95:Wi-Fi did not want to work all the time.

Review 96:The rustic feel of the room. How the room was separated and had a homey feeling to it. How the lobby was designed and presented.

Review 97:We would have preferred being in the main hotel, not the older "step child" next door. We should have been told in advance that that is where we were going to be stuck.

Review 98:The staff was very friendly and responsive. The location, directly across from the harbor, was lovely and convenient.

Review 99:A wedding was going on in the lobby and a bit confusing on checking in. I had requested that the rooms be on the same floor or near each other, but this didn't happen and because of the confusion of the wedding going on didn't realize until we located the rooms.

Review 100:The rooms were spotless. The fireplace made the room.

Review 101:The pillowcases were very wrinkled appearing soiled or used. And one pillow smelled sour. Thankfully I travel with my own pillow.

Review 102:I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 103:Staff was great and helped us move to a room we liked. It was our anniversary and the original room they booked us in was old and small and definitely not worth the price. The new room was much better.

Review 104:The location was nice. The main hotel was nice and the staff were helpful.

Review 105:We loved the location! The front desk was so helpful. We didn't get to stay long but we would definitely come back. Wish we had longer to explore.

Review 106:Noise (horn) from the ahrbor across the street went on every 8-9 seconds all night. The hotel provided ear plugs in a drawer by the bed but we had to find them.

Review 107:Most everything was wonderful

Review 108:Even though we called front desk to inform about late check-out at noon and the do not disturb sign on the door, 2 people came between 11:00 and 12:00 to knock and check if the room was empty.

Review 109:beautiful hotel, friendly staff, very clean and comfortable room, great view, amazing interior design

Review 110:Tammy at the front desk checked us in. She was outstanding! She very friendly, helpful, and upgraded our room without hesitation. The other front desk employees were also very pleasant.

Review 111:We were put in the annexe ? Why ---for $275 not of that standard . In contrast to other hotels in California on this trip at similar cost it was very average

Review 112:When we booked we were shown photos of the hotel room that we thought we were going to get to stay in. We also requested an ocean view. When we got to the hotel, we were told that we weren't staying in the main hotel but a little place next door. We were booked into a room on the second floor. The place did not an elevator. Our room was a disaster. We listed 16 things wrong and broken. We were across from an eatery across the street and things got going pretty early in the morning. The fog horn did not bother me as it did the others. I would not recommend staying in this hotel.

Review 113:I lived in Princeton for 20 years and it was good to get back home and smell the sea once again.

Review 114:No aircon. A fan was obtained but of limited use as it merely recirculates warm and humid air. I could not close one small window and so the fog horn was rather obtrusive.

Review 115:Shabby chic style in well appointed rooms.

Review 116:We stayed in pillar point, (which apparently we booked) but this was in tiny writing on our conf. e-mail, we thought we were staying in main Oceano Hotel building. No elevator in pillar point so had to drag luggage upstairs (hotel did offer to take it for us but felt lazy letting them so did it ourselves).

Review 117:Location Friendly staff Comfortable rooms Great view Great surroundings Free wifi

Review 118:Lots and lots of noise. Beds were way too hard. Staff tried to give us a room with no balcony and no A/C. Bath products smelled terrible.

Review 119:The decor and ambiance were quite nice.

Review 120:Non private bath room, lack of info on thefacility no map or directionsof where places were in the hotel and what you could get there .wedident know breakfast was avalable wntill the second day

Review 121:Area,lobby,view, location,people,PARKING

Review 122:I wasn't aware that our room would be in a totally different building, Pilar Point. I'm assuming it was an overflow. Although the room was nice and quaint, it felt as if we were in sharing a big house with our own room. Be sure to confirm where you'll be staying before check in. Also, Wi-Fi was weak.

Review 123:Location was great, our room looked right out to the ocean. Room was nice and cozy, and electric fireplace was very romantic.

Review 124:Hotel Oceano has the perfect amount of Quaintness and Character, offering a calming environment, inside and out. The room itself as well as the balcony were amazing. The designer took every detail into consideration when tackling this project. My husband and I loved it so much we are already booked for my Birthday in November. Great little getaway.

Review 125:every think about the hotel and the area it was excellent good area for walking and surfing in easy reach of redwood city and SAN FRANCISCO.WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANY ONE.

Review 126:Booking.com had totally wrong room information and booked a wrong room, a loft for 5 of us (4 + baby). Could have been a total nightmare if the management did not fix the mess promptly!

Review 127:Liked everything about our stay from helpful and friendly staff and management (Ken) to wonderful location, restaurants...

Review 128:I wish there had been a microwave.

Review 129:I enjoyed the fireplace, the comfy bed, sitting on the patio and looking out at the harbor, and the good location of nice places to eat. A bit pricey, but worth it

Review 130:TV was poor ,clarity fuzzy fortunately was did not watch the football game being played. Also when having breakfast at about 9:00 staff was still mopping floor in breakfast area, not conducive while eating a nice breakfast. Should have been completed cleaning earlier.

Review 131:Room was clean and well appointed. Shopping mall and stores very good. Highlight of our stay was the wonderful spa and the people doing massages and baths.well done

Review 132:The Oceano uses a neighboring hotel called the Pillar Point when they "sell" all the rooms in the Oceano. They don't tell you this, while charging the same amount and the experience is simply not the same (as our friend stayed in the Oceano).

Review 133:The Oceano looks to be a beautiful hotel and I'm sure we would have had a great experience had we stayed there instead of being shipped off campus to a two star neighboring hotel next door.

Review 134:The fog horn was on all night, with an annoying sound every minute which kept us from sleeping. Nothing you can overhear - they should state this in the hotel description!

Review 135:Wifi barley worked for us

Review 136:I was very happy with are stay here, it's a little pricey but deffently worth it. My wife and I had a great time and will deffently be coming back.

Review 137:There seems to be a beautiful main Hoyle but the hotel bought the old Pillar Point Inn next door. The flops were dirty and flugs were sticky. The bed was lumpy and the internet did not work. There was a large stain on the floor so I could not do my exercises. The windows are hard to open and close. This could be such a quaint price of the property and with bad legs we had no elevator service. This should have been disclosed on entry. We booked online and it seemed like we got one of the old style rooms. Yet there were plenty of open rooms in The main building.

Review 138:Staff very nice. Main reception area pretty. Great location and view. The people of Half Moon bay are so wonderful.

Review 139:The web site depicts the Oceano building so I had no idea when I booked that my room would be in a different building altogether. The second facility is fair at best, no elevator, near the street and adjacent to the noisy restaurant area. Be sure your room is in the Oceano itself. I split my rating as the other location would be rated only fair, not a good value while the Oceano is excellent.

Review 140:The main hotel which is what the web site shows is very nice, clean, comfortable and the amenities are all in that location. The cleaning staff and management acted quickly on my request to change rooms from the adjacent building to the main facility.
