Reviews for Yaka Hotel

Review 1:Simpel rooms with nice balcony. The hotel has a beautiful garden and the breakfast was good. The staff is really friendly. Only three minutes walk from the beach.

Review 2:Kizkalesi town is very strange place for tourist. Many people from Syria. This hotel is a litlle bit old.

Review 3:Near beach. Very helpful lady in reception. Free parking.

Review 4:The really liked the warm reception by the owner who would spend talking to his guests, and giving them travel tips. He even have some of us a ride to the Caves of Heaven And Hell and instructed an employee to walk me down to the bus stop and then later to carry them down to the bus stop for me. He's very kind and hospitable and fascinating to talk to about his experiences through the years.

Review 5:Very noisy street, really fifficult to sleep at night. Room needs some maitenance, locks for balcony and the toilet. Wifi worked from time to time.

Review 6:Location, helpful staff, good breakfirst

Review 7:The owner of the hotel is very nice man and will provide you with all necessary information (in English). There is small garden planted by owner. Close to the sea.

Review 8:location : walking distance to the beach and the shops, super markets and the restaurants. actually you will find everthing in the rooms but they will be very old. keep smaller your expectations and join this home like accomodation or find luxury one's. my room was clean and the breakfast was OK.

Review 9:The en suite really needs to be renewed.clean certainly but just old and time to be replaced

Review 10:The owner and staff were friendliness personified. The atmosphere was homely and the garden under tall palm trees and fruit trees is unique among the high rise hotel blocks that have grin up around this hacienda style hotel.

Review 11:Bathroom grotty, mould on floor and walls in grout and sealant. No wifi signal in room, lady said works on balcony but this not practical at night. Worst of all for a rated hotel, no hot water. Lady put it onto electric, but shower only just tepid.....not good enough!!

Review 12:Just me in hotel....lady friendly but no English spoken. Breakfast pleasant in garden area. Room curtains actually shut out the street lights. Bed really comfy and proper white sheets. Wonderful at last a bed side light to read by.

Review 13:No complaints at all

Review 14:Comfy bed, big room with balcony, decent breakfast in the garden, friendly staff including multilingual owner. Close to beach and main bus stop. Great value even for a solo traveller

Review 15:I stayed at this excellent hotel with a friend for a week at the start of October 2014. We had a great time and Yakup the friendly English speaking owner couldn't have been more helpful with information about the local ancient sites. In fact without his help we would have missed out on quite a bit as the guide books were quite lacking for this region of the coast. He even giving us a lift to local sites on a couple of occasions. The room was the best we staying in on our Turkey trip with a very nice balcony and the garden is a great place to have breakfast or just relax with a drink later in the day. A really great place.

Review 16:This doesn't apply. For the money, everything at the Yaka was as good as possible.

Review 17:The willingness of the owner and his staff to help. The owner spoke excellent English (also French & German) which is unusual for this part of Turkey. He and his staff could not do enough for me. They were very welcoming. They made sure that I had good directions to wherever I was going, lent me specialist guide books and went the extra mile. I also felt that they did this because they enjoyed offering hospitality, not simply for the money. Also, the room was comfortable, with a balcony and functioning wifi, everything worked and the breakfast (in the delightful garden) was good. The hotel is a stone's throw from the beach - this is rather crowded, but there are other, quieter spots a short bus ride away. I would recommend tourists to take a boat trip for 40 YTL to explore the nearby coves. Good restaurants, especially the Marine, are just past the Albatross Nightclub, a short walk from the Yaka. Generally, this part of the world is an excellent place to learn Turkish, as few people speak anything else.

Review 18:Poor quality of room and bathroom. Poorly maintained and scruffy

Review 19:Location. Good price but would have preferred to pay quite a lot more for better quality.

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:We've liked that place, good value for money, air condition, tasty breakfast, not far from the sea. And we all were charmed by hotel owner, who was very helpful and attentive, and even helped us to contact various airlines to find out, what've happened to the lost baggage of our friend.

Review 22:At night we couldnt find some drinks in bar wisky etc. or we coulndt find fruit for raki. One more advice, they might renew furnitures and add TVs into rooms

Review 23:Breakfest was good. Especially, green environment is really fantastic.

Review 24:Hotel is not new, maybe little renovation could lift the hotel value.

Review 25:Yakub - the owner and his staff would do the best to make you feel comfortable and restful. Rooms are nice, the location is very convenient (close to lovely beach). Rooms are equipped with everything you need (even toothbrush :)). Breakfasts are tasty and you can have them in nice shaded garden. Highly recommended!

Review 26:Did not accept payment by card, only cash.

Review 27:Exceptionally friendly and responsive staff; large room with balcony; good breakfast; lovely garden in back; located in a quiet area close to the beach; functional air conditioning unit in room; strong wi-fi signal. They were also very flexible about my check-out time.

Review 28:The hotel is not new, but very gut maintained. Super location in the beautiful region. A few metres from sea coast. Excellent breakfest in the shady garden. My personal thanks to the owner, Mr. Kahveci, pleasant intellectual, linguist and archeologist for his talk, advices and gift. The best recommendation for those, who love not sea only.

Review 29:The floor in our room was sandy, even when we first got there. It didn't feel nice if you were walking around with bare feet. It would be nice if the bedspreads matched... right now, they clash pretty badly. It's not a big deal, only it would improve the general image of the rooms.

Review 30:Just 3 blocks to the beach and 1 block from the main road, where you can catch buses. Lovely breakfast spread in the garden. Nice library of books to borrow. Place to wash the sand off your feet when you come in. Helpful friendly staff. No mosquitoes that we noticed.

Review 31:A great place with a lovely garden where you can eat meals and use the Wifi. Not too far from the beach but in a quiet location. The manager was extremely friendly and helpful. He drove me to see some of the local sights and also helped arrange my bus ticket to Ankara. He spoke excellent English as well. Overall an excellent place to stay.

Review 32:Terrible Wi-Fi

Review 33:Friendly staff.Good location.

Review 34:recommend staying somewhere else.

Review 35:A little overpriced for this part of Turkey

Review 36:Very friendly and helpful owner, nice garden for breakfast, very close to beach

Review 37:Mr yaka was great

Review 38:THe host was quite congenial

Review 39:A nice place to stay with a nice owner which has an aura of an old wise man.

Review 40:When mr Yaka learnt we needed to catch a bus to Olympos. He called the company and organised tickets and arranged breakfast earlier (at 6 am) for us.

Review 41:Homely, lovely staff who were accommodating and helpful. Great location, nice garden.

Review 42:We enjoyed the garden.

Review 43:The staff is soooo unbelievably friendly and helpful!

Review 44:Poor internet, the bathrooms are a little old.

Review 45:A corner of paradise, with a wonderful host who makes you fall in love with the area and its cultural and historical atractions. Charming The garden offers you a refuge from the rest of the turists and makes your evenings special.

Review 46:There were lots of mosquitos, mainly in the bathroom, where there is a water source. I kept the door closed and shut the windows. After getting the electronic bug plug thing refilled, it wasn't a problem. I never got bit. It was mainly an inconvenience but being at the beach, one has to expect these things to some degree.

Review 47:Yakub Bey is a great old gentleman. He's very kind and helpful as well as fun to talk to. I've stayed here a couple of different times with groups of friends and it's always pleasant. The location is just a short walk to the beach and the price for the rooms is a really good value--high season and low season. The rooms are comfortable--it's no frills and basic--perfect for an overnight stay or weekend.

Review 48:The only concern is the mosquito situation, especially at night, so bring or buy bug spray.

Review 49:The Yaka Hotel is a solid hotel for a visit to Kiz Kalesi. About a 2 minute walk to the beach with the best views of Kiz Kalesi. It also has an amazing garden to relax in and have lunch/dinner or the complimentary breakfast. The complimentary breakfast is better than most turkish hotel breakfasts, including both scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs plus some fresh fruit. For coffee drinkers, they have an actual coffee maker at breakfast for regular drip coffee, a rarity in a country that thinks nescafe is actually good. The owner Yakup is a real gem and will go out of his way to improve your stay. He drove a small group of us to Kanlidivane, a hard to reach ancient city in the region. He also booked our bus ride back to Ankara and requested the bus company to pick us up just near the hotel. The rest of the staff is also extremely helpful and friendly.

Review 50:The location is great - near the beach, restaurants, shops and supermarkets as well as the main road to Mersin, which makes it easy to travel around the area by bus or a minibus (to Narlikuyu, Silifke, Ayas, Erdemli and Mersin) and see the regional attractions - Kanlidivane, Elaiusa-Sebaste, Caves of Heaven and Hell and Diocaesarea/ Uzuncaburc. The hotel has a very nice garden where you can eat breakfast or order food from nearby restaurants and have a glass of wine. The staff is very kind and helpful, the owner speaks English and German - he provided us with information on the area and even gave us a lift to less accessible places.

Review 51:The mosquitos in the rooms! The screens and doors need to be tightened. One night in particular it was awful. We improved the situation by stuffing towels Under/over the cracks of the doors but they still got in! Should be an easy fix?

Review 52:Host Yakub Bey was great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very informative and helpful. Gave us great advice on sights to see in the local area. Even drove us to Mersin to catch the airport bus upon our return. Lovely hotelier. We were able to leave our teenagers in their room studying while we ventured out via local buses to see nearby ruins/muséums. The garden was lovely - we greatly enjoyed our breakfasts out there every morning.

Review 53:We found the cheese plate with 2 pieces of cheese quite pricy, and myfriend would have been interested in a larger kitchen in the evening. But not a big problem since there were plenty of restaurants aroundthe corner.

Review 54:Wonderful place. Great location, close to the beach. Most of all a realgarden, where we could have our good breakfast with real coffee. And notto forget the very helpful owner, who also showed us around. A safe andquiet place with great atmosphere.

Review 55:Value for money. Although I liked the atmosphere, I think the hotel is overpriced.

Review 56:The decoration of the rooms is a bit outdated, especially the bathroom, but it adds to the nice atmosphere of the hotel. Giving me a nostalgic feeling The balcony with the room is lovely.

Review 57:Owner Yahkup is wonderful. Helped with ferry to Cyprus and storing somebelongings. Good breakfast and wifi.Rooms are clean and adequate. AC works well.

Review 58:Hotel is good. Kizkalesi has become a bit to much of a seaside resort. Hard to find good Turkish food-- mostly hamburgers and chips.

Review 59:The quiet garden was great. Not many places in Kizkalesi have a quiet green place to relax, but Yaka does. Our boys thought it great fun to see the ripe lemons on the trees. The owner was lovely to talk with, and gave good advice about the surrounding sites to visit.

Review 60:The owner hepled us with excellent information what to see in the areaand contact information to people that helped us to reach the sites wewanted to visit. Very friendly staff!

Review 61:The only one thing which did upset us was the old shower, which wasfixed high and we couldn't take it in the hand, it took some 10 minutesfor water to warm up, and the curtain didn't prevent the bathroom frombecoming wet.

Review 62:First of all wonderfull staff, the owner Yakup is a very nice person todeal with. The rooms were nicely firnished for a 2*, I appreciated thekettle and the minibar with some beverages, also there was a very goodwi-fi connection for free. The hotel is situated in a quite place just 4minutes walk to the seaside. We enjoyed the breakfast in a gorgeousgarden with lemons, pomegranates and oranges. And the coffee was brewed, not instant like on most Turkey hotels!! All in all, it was a greatvalue for money.

Review 63:We did not feel comfortable with the neighborhood, especially after we were asked to move our car into a well lit space directly in front of the hotel.

Review 64:The staff was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed chatting with our host at breakfast. And the gardens were beautiful.

Review 65:The latest Lonely Planet describes Kizkalesi as 'wonderful' and the Yaka Hotel as it's top choice...this is in contrast to editions that correctly describe it as a concrete jungle by the sea, and the Yaka as 2 stars, I've lost faith in the LP following this visit as due to the Bayram holiday we were unfortunately stuck here for 4 days. Yaka Hotel - The first night we didn't sleep till 3am due to the rampant mosquitoes in the room and bought repellent for future nights to fight them off. We never had hot water during our entire stay and the electricity supply to the town kept cutting in and out. We had 2 bags of washing laundered, the usual price is about 20TL, it cost us 140TL that we were never told about until it was time to pay, when I questioned it the owner said there was an itemised list of the cost per piece of clothing in the room. Despite looking through the contents of the room I wasn't able to find this. Kizkalesi - A sorry concrete jungle of B and C grade hotels with a litter strewn beach and surrounds. Dogs roaming back and forth across and cats breeding and feeding like there's no tomorrow in the rubbish, and an extremely limited selection of dining options.

Review 66:The knowledge and transportation to archaeological sites provided by the owner and the breakfast was sound.

Review 67:Spacious comfortable rooms wıth a balcony fridge, ceiling fans, air conditioning and en suite bathrooms. The location is quiet and breakfast is taken in a beautiful garden. The owner Yakup is friendly, helpful and full of knowledge about local places of interest.

Review 68:I think for the price you should get a TV. Other hotels I steyed in at that price had one. When you are travelling yourself TV with an English channel is important. You can get Al Jazzeera intnl in Turkey. There are pensions in Kiskalesi which may provide better value for money.

Review 69:Staff were friendly. Got free cup of tea from owner.Kettle in room. Big room.

Review 70:It's in the middle of a dirty little town. Trash on the streets. The town needs to take care of its appearance!

Review 71:Staff at hotel were very helpful. Room was clean. Breakfast was OK. Beach was very nice.

Review 72:Great location close to the beach and very convenient to restaurants and night life. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast and our room were great value for the price. Our dog stayed with us and the staff loved him. Great place for a weekend stay.

Review 73:We were a little disappointed by the room and the bathroom, quite oldand with little equipment. More generally (but this is not the hotel'sresponsibility) we were not so happy with our stay Kizkalesi which isnot at all the charming sea resort we had imagined: beach is crowded andentirely bordered with hotels.

Review 74:A nicer place to stay than the surrounding ugly hotels, especially theplace for breakfast in the garden is very enjoyable; friendly staff. Andif you re looking for a location near the beach (5 minutes walk) but abit away from the clubs etc. that s a good place.

Review 75:The friendliness of the boss and staff. The boss s ability to speak English German French. The nice garden where we had breakfast. The calm and quietness. The balcony with the room.

Review 76:It is unfortunate that the surroundings of the hotel, like almosteverywhere on Turkey's southern coast, is packed with ugly buildings andthe streets are dirty and messy. In the building and the garden you gotfortunately not affected by this.

Review 77:Very nice owner, nice garden where you can relax, near beach and center. We had booked for 2 nights, but for organizational reasons we had toleave the place after 1 night. We were willing to pay for 2 nights butthe owner did not need this and wished us a pleasant journey

Review 78:The maintenance of the room was a bit lacking. The bathroom door's lock was broken and wouldn't close.Otherwise everything was fine.

Review 79:The location between the street and the boardwalk was perfect. It was quiet at night away from the boardwalk and the loud music. The staff was helpful. The breakfast was filling.

Review 80:Breakfast was fine, but standard for Turkey and not worth the ravereviews on this site.

Review 81:The host was friendly, it was close to the beach, the room was good andhad a shower curtain (albeit it a bit of a moldy one).

Review 82:The shower is only enclosed by a shower curtain that leaves the bathroom very wet - but, a small price to pay for such a lovely place!

Review 83:We loved everything! A very kind owner who is very knowledgeable. An impeccably clean room with a beautiful balcony. Fresh flowers were put in our room everyday! There is a kettle with coffee and tea, fresh towels and our room was tidied everyday. The breakfast was unbelievable - 5 star hotel standards - there was real brewed coffee, hot freshly made bread, fresh organic fruit and eggs to order. On our last day the owner even asked us to take some to go. Breakfast is served in a beautiful garden covered in flowers. For the price we paid we were not expecting something this wonderful - but we were very happy to be wrong. It is located about 2 blocks from the beach down a quiet side-street. PLEASE stay at this wonderful hotel. We had been traveling around Turkey for 10 days at this point and this is easily the nicest little boutique hotel we've ever found.

Review 84:Shower is fixed high on the wall, you cannot take it in the hands. Building itself is a bit old. You should come early for breakfast to get all the choice.

Review 85:Good location, very close to the beach. Wide assortment of meals for breakfast, even strawberry. Spacious room with all necessary inside.

Review 86:There were problems with the wifi (due to Telekom Turkey rather thanthe hotel)

Review 87:Owner-management very friendly and helpful (eg they booked andconfirmed bus tickets for us) Breakfast buffet was great and a joy toeat in the garden.

Review 88:The owner is very kind and helpfull!

Review 89:nothing if you keep in mind this is a comfortable low priced budget hotel.

Review 90:Great breakfast in the garden Price Hospitable Owner

Review 91:A lot musquitos

Review 92:good location near beach and friendly staff nice garden. Perfect breakfast in this garden

Review 93:Very helpful manager. Laid back atmosphere.

Review 94:Electricity and water occasionally went off

Review 95:The owner and the lady who helps him were lovely

Review 96:Aircon

Review 97:Owner friendly

Review 98:Good value basic accommodation. Friendly proprietor and staff.

Review 99:The bathrooms needed to be repaired!!

Review 100:The environment was friendly.

Review 101:Slight electric current through taps. Only a buzz but disconcerting.

Review 102:Excellent location for beach and restaurants.

Review 103:The location was amazing, the rooms were clean and cute! The balcony was lovely, the staff were very friendly. Great little hotel!

Review 104:Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely stay and we'd love to go back. Beautiful garden to have breakfast in!

Review 105:unreliable hot water shower

Review 106:the owner was very knowledgable and helped to take us to the sites. outside garden area

Review 107:No restaurant .No hot water

Review 108:Kind staff and the garden

Review 109:comfortable seating in garden would be an asset

Review 110:location and staff

Review 111:Old and tired decor could do with updating. The showers were very weak and only provided tepid water

Review 112:Clean and the staff and owner were very friendly

Review 113:Room not as clean as I would have liked.

Review 114:Staff & owner very helpful, reasonable price, close to sea.

Review 115:The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. We had a nice stay.

Review 116:The owner/manager who speaks English. German, French and Turkish was very nice and helpful.

Review 117:I would highly recommend the Yaka for budget travelers to Turkey. Greatand helpful staff and 2 blocks from beach.
