Reviews for Best Western Old Colony Inn

Review 1:The only problem was the security lock on the door was not secure. The handle that swung out from the door jam to cross over and provide more security than the lock pulled out easily from the door jam. The screws pulled out of the door jam. Not really very secure.

Review 2:The location was in a quiet area. Although not brand new the motel was clean, comfortable, with a good breakfast. Also the staff was very helpful. We also used the office computer.

Review 3:Parking is little tight in places. As others have noted the Inn is showing its age in a few places. It is being well kept.

Review 4:Staff is very good and very pleasant. Location for me is excellent. My room has the comforts I need and is kept clean and stocked. Breakfast bar has a good variety for my needs.

Review 5:I wish the shuttle service traveled a little further as it did not go into Crystal City. Also we had one noise complaint in our room, but it wasn't that late and it was just one guy that got a little over excited (not the hotels' fault, but unfortunately the annoyance of other guests staying there).

Review 6:It was a good location from Arlington and Washington DC, and the price was quite reasonable. The breakfast was decent for a continental-style, and the rooms were just fine, no complaints (great pillows).

Review 8:We ran the Washington marathon the Sunday morning and the staff agreed to a late check-out (exceptionally). This was REALLY appreciated, Thank you so much!!

Review 9:Although you can call for the shuttle to and back from the nearest metro station, and the driver is warm-hearted to show you everything you want to know, it would be better if the station is within walking distance.

Review 10:Nice breakfast buffet with waffle maker. Small martat front desk sells instant noodles.

Review 11:The hot breakfast was missing, someone had trouble getting to work to fix it that morming. We had cereal and bagels.

Review 12:The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the lady at the front desk was kind and very professional and helpful.

Review 13:Good place to stay if one wants to stay a few days for short excursions to Washington. Hotel offers free connection to the metro station, one can reach the city center in about 25 minutes.

Review 14:Shuttle did not run on time. We were flexible so this wasn't a great problem. They try to accommodate everyone and sometimes this doesn't work out an individual.

Review 15:Very friendly, convenient. Loved the free shuttle to King Street.

Review 16:Helpful and friendly staff (especially Stephen, who works at the front desk). Shuttle service is great! Transportation to and from Ronald Reagan Airport, the metro, and King Street (which offers additional free transportation, various restaurants, shops, and places of interest.) Good variety of breakfast food. Clean and comfortable.

Review 17:Pretty much everything else. Old and tired rooms. Unsafe electrics hanging off the wall, poor cleaning. Staff were mostly surly and unhelpful. Wifi was useless. Breakfast was really unpleasant. We won't be returning.

Review 18:20 mins walk to king street Alexandria was ok. Similar to walk to metro stop so easy to get to DC on the train. Plenty of free parking.

Review 19:Cigarette burns on tub in non-smoking room. Shuttle service wasn't always reliable. Corner vacuuming could use some improvement. No Pool. Front desk staff was not as friendly as they could have been.

Review 20:Loved the location and that it was near the walking trails. Continental Breakfast was very good and the breakfast hostesses were very friendly & cheerful. That they had shuttle service. The Beds were comfortable & the bedding clean. Our room was quiet. We were provided with a refrigerator upon request. Maids always accommodated our requests. Clean Bathrooms.

Review 21:Beer stolen from room...suspect housekeeping. Shuttle driver with badattitude...got into a road rage incident with another driver, noelevator. Mostly unfriendly staff

Review 22:Location, good tv, free parking, good price

Review 23:The staff was courteous and helpful. The breakfast was hot and had a good variety ti choose from. The shuttle bus was a convenient way to get around the immediate area.

Review 24:curtains in room were broken pulls. had to tape curtains closed. bedside lamp not working, even chg the bulbourselves, and lamp was still not working. light fixture over sink kept cracking and flickering. all these should have been fixed before they rent room.

Review 25:location, and van to metro

Review 26:Overall the staff of this hotel wasn't very friendly or helpful. Some of the Front desk employees were rude and treated us and other guests as we were annoyance to them. However, the lady who was serving and supervising breakfast during week was very good. Room cleaning service was only average.

Review 27:Great location, walking distance to metra station and few blocks from Old Town Alexandria King Steeet. Had a convenient shuttle service but driver wasn't very friendly. It was nice to have a free breakfast which was average but still good enough to start a day.

Review 28:We were exceptionally pleased with the shuttle service. Additionally, the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, the Best Western was an excellent value.

Review 29:The ac didn't work.

Review 30:Good location, convenient to King St. And Braddock Rd. Metro Station. When I mentioned that ac wasn't working, the woman at receptiondiscounted our room 25%.

Review 31:Dated facilities and damaged furniture. One of front desk attendants brash although most employees were polite and helpful.

Review 32:Value for money. Had a small gym and walking distance to office. Shuttle around town and to airport.

Review 33:The other woman at the front desk was RUDE! Will not return because of her. Breakfast not replenished. Out of a lot of items when we went for breakfast at 9 am. WiFi was not good.

Review 34:JUne at front desk was nice. Room was clean.

Review 35:Bathroom desperately needs to be redone. Saturday morning breakfast was fine, didn't seem to restock for Sunday morning, no fruit, yogurt, French vanilla for coffee.

Review 36:Love to have coffee in lobby all day, rocking chairs on porch. Wonderful location, we walked to dinner and to Harris Teeter (grocery store).

Review 37:Our room was nasty. They didnt have the boards around the under part of the bed and it hadn't been vacuumed in months you could see the dust on the floor. All around the edges of the room were filled with dust and junk. Staff was uninterested in anyone unless asked a question and our iron didn't work and was replaced with another that didn't work. The location was a bit difficult to get to with all the one way streets.

Review 38:The breakfast wasn't bad.

Review 39:The wi-fi did not work the day we arrived. It started to work 1 hr before we checked out.

Review 40:The free breakfast was great. They even had waffle, eggs and sausage which was a pleasent surprise.

Review 41:WiFi was out the first day of our three day stay.

Review 42:The room was very comfortable, staff friendly, clean, staff very accommodating, and breakfast was very good.

Review 43:Smoke alarm was beeping in our room when we arrived.

Review 44:The receptionist brought new batteries to the room and I fixed the problem. She was industrious, courteous and effective.

Review 45:Perfect location and facility for overnight stay before morning flight from Reagan International. Great value; good, free breakfast; free airport shuttle (10 min. from airport), very clean; in nice neighborhood. Steven at front desk was very professional, articulate, courteous, friendly and well organized. I'd definitely recommend this place to friends and plan to here next time we need to stay overnight in the area.

Review 46:staffs are nice in general. I like the colonial style of the hotel. It is right off highway so if you are driving it's convenient and parking is free and easy. We used metro into DC, so the free shuttle is very useful. At the time their van broke down, a smaller van was used; the drivers seemed a bit overwhelmed but they tried hard to commodate everyone. Toiletries are basic brands like Pantene some additional useful items (toothpaste etc ) are also complimentary and available on demand.

Review 47:The width of the bed was small and likely would be uncomfortable for large people.

Review 48:The location is ideal for access to the airport. The breakfast was good. Access to other businesses is easy.

Review 49:Wifi came in and out. One of the shuttle drivers was a little impatient and rude on two days. Otherwise staff (at desk, shuttle, & cleaning crew) were extremely helpful.

Review 50:Staff at the hotel was SO friendly and helpful. Shuttle was a good way to get back and forth between the metro. Clean, somewhat-updated rooms.

Review 51:floors and bathroom was dirty and the breakfast wasn't all that good and seem like the bare minimum. But I guess you get what you paid for.

Review 52:the location

Review 53:You need to carry your baggage to first floor through the stare case. No lifts available in hotel. No shops in surroundings.

Review 54:Good staff+ clean rooms + close to capital. Around 5 miles from the white house, capitol... etc

Review 55:The room was not particularly clean. It needs to be updated. No elevators nor easy access to the building. I would not go back there again.

Review 56:The hotel was located for easy access to and from the Interstates.

Review 57:bed (mattress on the milk crates, always sinking, bed pillows), bathroom is very rough, hallway stinks like vomit, quality of breakfast is not great

Review 58:price, location

Review 59:Disappointed that room didn't have a fridge nor microwave. Furnishings were shabby. The bedskirt had holes in it. They really need to freshen up the place.

Review 60:Breakfast was great! My kids loved the make your own waffle bar. The shuttle service was nice and convenient too.

Review 61:There was a problem with 3rd party booking, but it was resolved by a sympathetic and kind personnel. This good experience trumps any minor inconvenience.

Review 62:Could easily hear other guests at night, example, flushing toilets and closing doors.

Review 63:The shuttle took us where we wanted to go, then came to get us when we called. We didn't have to move our car.

Review 64:The hotel shuttle service starts only at 7 am. So for early flights at R. Reagan Int airport you have to book a cab.

Review 65:It was quiet despite the fact that my room was close to the reception

Review 66:The breakfast although free was basically a continental breakfast.

Review 67:Right in the heart of old town. Close to a lot of great eats. Local grocery store less than a 30 drive away. Staff was friendly and willing to help any way they could. Breakfast was free so that's a bonus to save a few bucks. FREE PARKING!!!!!!

Review 68:Alexandria is a perfect place to stay when visiting historic places in Washington Dc. This hotel has very friendly staff and a homely comfortable feel to it. There is a free shuttle ride to the airport and metro station. King Street is a short walk which has fab restaurants + bars. Loved this place xx

Review 69:Town zoning code prohibits a sign on the street informing drivers where to turn. Missed the turn and had to drive three miles to find a turn to get back. Try giving specific instruction on the inn's web page, informing drivers as where to turn off the main street, or give better direction how to get around the back streets to the site. Breakfast was really good, and again, the staff was great.

Review 70:The staff was superb, really friendly and helpful.

Review 71:We stayed in this motel for 4 nights. On the second night, when we came back to our room after attending a business meeting, we found that the heater wasn't working. The temperature was dropping to low 20s. I went down to the lobby and talked to a staff asking any portable heater or something. However, I was just told that there was nothing they could help us except offering us additional blankets until the following morning. The staff said that they had checked all and found everything works fine in the room before we checked in. That was an extremely unpleasant and useless conversation. You decide whether you want to stay in the room without heat when the temperature is dropping to low 20s... Although I am frequent user for Bestwestern having a platinum reward level, this was a worst experience ever...

Review 72:The location was not bad..

Review 73:No elevator to get to the second floor.

Review 74:I like the location, the grounds, the modernization of every aspect of the hotel, the spacious rooms and nice selection at breakfast and the price which can't be beat...also a ten-15 minute walk from the Metro Station.

Review 75:Very difficult to find this hotel. I know others who have stayed here and said the same thing. No sign by the street, just a flat sign on the building behind trees. Missed it several times at night. It's also on a frontage road with no clear way to access.

Review 76:Was quiet. Good parking. We attended a show at the Birchmere and hotel is only 10 mins away.

Review 77:The lack of amenities -- we stayed for almost a week and would have enjoyed a refrigerator or microwave in the room. But, there was a dvd player. No elevator. We weren't in the room very much so it wasn't that big of a deal. However, we ate out all week and would have liked to bring back leftovers. Oh, and no ice machine -- ice was provided in plastic bags in a freezer.

Review 78:The complimentary shuttle to the local Metro stations, airport, and anything within 3 miles made the price seem reasonable! The rooms were decently sized and the staff was fantastic!

Review 79:One of the front desk employees had a very poor attitude towards us. Not to mention, they did not greet us nor acknowledge our presence when we approached them to check in.

Review 80:The breakfast room and the lady who kept the food in stock had a very positive attitude.

Review 81:The staff were either great or really couldn't be bothered at all.In fact the guy who was the shuttle bus driver didn't even bother to say hi or acknowledge anyone, perhaps he is in the wrong job as being in the hospitality industry means you have to be hospitable.

Review 82:Close proximity to everything. The breakfast was ok,the room was good value for the money.

Review 83:The rooms need updating. The walls by the bathroom had disgusting areas. The carpeting was gross. It was just a worn tired room that didn't make me feel comfortable.

Review 84:Most of the staff was friendly.

Review 85:Both nights a man was sitting outside on the rockers smoking a cigar that took him over 3 hours to enjoy. We know because our room was right above. Wish it was a non smoking hotel even on the porch.

Review 86:Older motel but very clean and comfortable. Located in a quiet neighborhood close to restaurants and metro. Free parking, breakfast, and shuttle . Pleasant staff. Enjoyed our stay very much.!!

Review 87:The tv remote was difficult to use because it was overused. The fitness center was small and hot. My credit card was charged for more than what my booking was for on the day of check-in and I was told this was a hold on the card to ensure there's enough money to pay for the room (note: the correct charge was finalized later on my billing statement). There is a free shuttle service to many nearby spots, but I'm a walker and like to just go at my leisure so the location was not the best for easy walking to all the restaurants, shops, metro, waterfront, etc. There's not many visual attractions in the immediate vicinity. There's no elevator to the second floor, so those with disabilities may have trouble, for example, my mother had trouble with the stairs while coming to visit the hotel before dinner.

Review 88:The beds were comfortable. The room was air conditioned. The rooms seemed clean. The breakfast was decent. The location was quiet. There was a Giant grocery store around the corner. The staff was friendly. Overall, a good experience and would make a great place to save some money on a hotel if you don't mind taking the free shuttle, car, or taxi to the metro.

Review 89:Convenience to visit Washington DC Good shuttle bus service to the Metro station. Very helpful staff. Alexandria is a very nice little town the waterfront is lovely and very animated in the summer time.

Review 90:Although there was no refrigerator in the room, they provided ice in bags and a ice bucket in the room.

Review 91:This hotel came with a lot of "extras". It had free parking, free shuttle service within 3 miles, and free breakfast which included cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, bagels, danish pastries, and a warm entree which varied day to day, usually some type of egg and breakfast meat. They also served apple juice, orange juice and coffee. Also included was a DVD player in each room and they would let you borrow from their collection. The beds were very comfortable and the staff was nice.

Review 92:Unfortunately the hotel was let down by a couple of their front of house staff who really shouldn't be in the hospitality business.in particulate the guy who checked us in was less then welcoming.

Review 93:Location Shuttle service Cleanliness Room

Review 94:- Difficult to find the entry at first. They should put a lit sign on the intersection of GW Pkwy and E Abingdon Dr.

Review 95:- Breakfast bar was decent, with many cereal and yogurt options. - Parking was ample. - Check-in and check-out was fast, simple, and courteous.

Review 96:Some areas grungy (hallways, stairways); hotel promises wi-fi but it almost never worked, as the front desk staff confessed.

Review 97:The location in Alexandria was good. the shuttle is a very helpful service--potentially making location VERY good, since you can get places without paying cab fare--but driver kind of cranky and reluctant. Rooms simple and reasonably clean.

Review 98:There was a bit of a mix-up when I requested to stay another night but it was quickly straightened out by a knowledgeable and friendly staff member.

Review 99:DC and Old Town were very accessible by the shuttle/ metro. The breakfast was full of choices-loved the fruit!

Review 100:No complainst

Review 101:It was very enjoyable. We could just about everwhere. There were Restaurants nearby. The shuttle was convenient and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 102:The staff was amazing, free breakfast was plentiful and delicious, the free parking, the shuttle service excellent, very helpful for visitors, close to the waterfront, and King street where all the nice restaurants are, we had a great time, I will return to this hotel if I go back to Alexandria.

Review 103:If you want to sleep like George Washington with no microwave or refrigerator then stay and enjoy the dated comfort. The AC didn't working well and limited wifi. The room u booked on booking.com might not be the room you get. Staff was very unhelpful and claimed that I made a mistake and didnt book a king bed even though I confirmed my king room with the Booking.com representative. BLUF save yourself the hassle and go some place else.

Review 104:Not much, but parking was free

Review 105:Excellent price. Great customer service Great location.

Review 106:Everything else

Review 107:Location

Review 108:Price was good for the area, it was clean, hot breakfast.

Review 109:Old run down hotel, with unhelpful staff, simple things can not be done ( like printing my receipt)

Review 110:Filthy..not secure..tub didn't even drain when you showered..not convinced linens were clean was horrified!

Review 111:Stayed there for location

Review 112:the location is 1 metro stop from regon Int' airport and the hotel provide shuttl bus service which is vey convenient to the customers

Review 113:Banging of room doors by other visitors. Would wake us up

Review 114:The professionalism of all staff. Very courteous, generous.

Review 115:no elevator small workout space no pool

Review 116:A little outdated. Old furniture. No elevator. Serves the purpose though. Clean. Helpful staff. Courtesy shuttle comes in very handy.

Review 117:Fix the fitness area and spa.

Review 118:No negatives

Review 119:Convenience to DC

Review 120:Everything. One of the best hotels I've stayed in. Staff was very friendly/professional and most of all I will definitely be returning.

Review 121:Difficult to find.

Review 122:Free parking was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 123:Location and peaceful place.

Review 124:initially hard to find

Review 125:very quaint, clean . breakfast was decent

Review 126:Took three rooms to settle in. First one, broken door handle. Second, broken AC

Review 127:Nothing really..............

Review 128:The price, the condition of the room, the comfort....it was good for us, Thank you !!
