Reviews for Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Albany Downtown

Review 1:The parking near this downtown hotel is fair to poor- $16 to valet my car was not bad price wise however I was surprised that when I arrived around 9:30pm- staff was hard to find.

Review 2:Great last minute booking with this hotel, in the perfect location! It was for New Years Eve, and I booked it around 6pm. Check-in was seemless, and quick- and checking out was even better!

Review 3:Ubiquitous plastic plates and cutlery spoiled what was otherwise a good breakfast.

Review 4:Great location, friendly staff, efficient. Wonderful room and super-comfortable bed. Free wifi much appreciated.

Review 5:Hotel is now part of a chain; no more fireplaces, bathtubs, bathrobes. No more cocktail lounge and restaurant!! DIY breakfast only. View was poor.

Review 6:The bed and pillows were excellent, extremely comfy. Room was very clean. Good quality shampoo.

Review 7:There was unfortunately a fire alarm at 3am leading to a full evacuation of the building. This was handled very poorly by staff and on exiting the building it became apparent that there were a number of hazards affecting a safe exit- fire detectors were covered and there was debris from re-decorating on the floor of the fire escape stairwell.

Review 8:Check in staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were also nicely refurbished.

Review 9:There was an evening desk clerk that was very rude.Plus,I wish they had kept the piano bar, it was a huge draw for me as a returning client.I was shocked and disappointed to see it had been removed.

Review 10:I love to the comfort of the room the linens on the bed and the very kind manager!

Review 11:Our stay was just great. We were greeted warmly by the staff at the desk as we entered this gem of a hotel, and when we asked about a restaurant for dinner, they checked to see what was still serving on a Sunday evening. Breakfast was lovely, room so welcoming.

Review 12:The hotel was a chic boutique hotel, once upon a year ago. Fairfield has bought it and are working on renovating it quite irresponsibly. The pictures available online show a beautiful, historic hotel. It has been remade into a cheap, faux wood paneling horror. The hotel already had beautiful, real wood paneling! Why it was replaced with some terrible 1980s style particle panel board is beyond me. Nothing of the original hotel has been kept. Freaking travesty.

Review 13:The staff in the morning was fantastic. Great location. Clean. Large bathrooms.

Review 14:The place is very at your service. The room is super cozy and chic. The location of the hotel is in the center of Albany so you see all the good place!

Review 15:We did not find anything to complain about.

Review 16:Excellent service. Ideally located. Beautiful room & bath. Very clean & very comfortable. We were told places of interest to see and a great restaurant to eat.

Review 17:Quiet old fashioned hotel which is being up dated .Comfortable bed and good restaurants close by. Breakfast not exciting but adequate. Friendly reception and easy check out.

Review 18:My room was never cleaned complete ly ever day I had to ask for things to be CLEANED. They only cleaned what I said was wrong, Floor was never Mopped,Shower, Carpet, Mirrow, Sheets.

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:Very good hotel, in a renovation period which I am sure will make it better, big rooms, very comfortable and all the staff were excellent and very friendly.

Review 21:The breakfast was not good. Eggs were like rubber and cheap sausage. Pancake was good and staff friendly

Review 22:The remodel is making this a first class hotel. I enjoyed the location and the restaurant a block away

Review 23:Currently under construction so the actual hotel is looking a bit unpleasing to the eye. I hear its quite beautiful at other times.

Review 24:I liked the staff and their friendly demeanor and for being very helpful. They provided anything we asked for and in a quick fashion. Breakfast had some great options(though the eggs tasted very powdered).

Review 25:Until I called to confirm room had no idea hotel was under construction. No restaurant no bar. Lobby torn apart. Had a tough time parking after hours when there was no valet

Review 26:The room had been done over was very clean, bed comfortable but not as much as it was other times

Review 27:Single slow elevator ; other is under construction but they are in the process of renovating to become Fairfield Inn and Suites.

Review 28:The price for downtown Albany was amazing! And the room was huge with a huge bathroom to match. Within walking distance of the State Capitol, Corning Tower Observation Deck, and the New York State Museum.

Review 29:The pillows were a little too hard ... Since there are so many, a variety would be nice.

Review 30:Great and friendly staff. Beautiful hotel and great location!!

Review 31:The elevator was scary (maybe because of the renovations).

Review 32:Staff was friendly and really concern about our satisfaction and comfort. The rooms are totaly soundproof, we didin't here any sounds from other rooms.

Review 33:Hotel is undergoing some renovations in the public areas, and the elevator is sinfully slow.

Review 34:The condition of the room was outstanding, as well as the location.

Review 35:Didn't expect to spend that much money to have the place so tore apart. The lobby was a mess dust everywhere, stairs blocked off and just expected it to be clean and cozy not tarps, plastic sheeting and a mess everywhere

Review 36:the room was nice, the bed was comfortable, the location, and the breakfast was pretty good

Review 37:Lobby under construction. Unattractive, but how many seconds do you spend in the lobby? Fitness center closed.

Review 38:Friendly staff, new and clean hallways and room, snacks and breakfast bag at front desk.

Review 39:This place is a disaster. It is currently undergoing a massiverenovation and about 95% of public areas are an active, and dirty, construction zone. The property will convert to a Fairfield Inn andSuites in October 2015, but until then try to avoid. While the rooms appear to have already been renovated, the (new?) air conditioning units are spotty at best (room was 80 degrees on high A/C when I arrived). The makeshift breakfast, amongst the construction, is shambolic. The management should really be ashamed. I've had cleaner meals camping in the wilderness. The staff, while basically pleasant, seemed uninterested in being accommodating (would not switch my room when I complained about A/C), and did not apologize for or even acknowledge the horrendous conditions around them. The "free Wi-fi" did not work for the duration of my stay -- the hotel's response? I should contact the internet service provider directly! The management of this hotel is clearly greedy and unwilling to shut down the hotel (and lose revenue) during these extensive renovations even though both safety and guest experience dictate they should. Shame on you.

Review 40:Location

Review 41:Location and the architecture of the unique building was very nice.Staff were most accommodating and the beds and linens in our newly renovated room were excellent. BreakfSt was in an unattractive room,as they are renovating.Food was very good, and plentiful.

Review 42:under construction currently, because of construction fitness room wasn't available, walls are pretty thin (i could overhear my neighbors' conversations and i don't think they were even talking that loud)

Review 43:24 hour coffee/tea station, friendliness of staff, complimentary cookies occasionally offered in the lobby, room (507) had a mini-fridge and microwave which came in hand, also had a tub, hot breakfast included in room rate, reliable wi-fi also included in room rate

Review 44:My room was remodeled, very clean and modern. The bed is very comfortable! The renovations are still going on in the hotel, but it didn't interfere with my stay.

Review 45:The bedroom was spacious, clean and modern. The beds were very comfortable, so much so that it was hard to get up for breakfast in the morning. Staff were very helpful with things to do as we killed time and when we arrived we got our room changed to two beds as we had forgotten to mention that in the notes when booking. Overall great experience, would definitely return

Review 46:Due to the construction, the breakfast was in a temporary space and not very inviting.

Review 47:The Hotel is being converted to a national chain and undergoing construction.

Review 48:This is a beautiful hotel right in downtown Albany. They are doing renovations, but you would never know it. The floor my room was on was all brand new, beautiful marble bathroom and very well decorated, clean and comfortable.

Review 49:Cleanliness: stinking and durty fridge, toothpaste spatter across one third of the big bathroom mirror, dark hairs in all lengths and variations on the bathroom floor indicate that it was not cleaned (properly).

Review 50:Good bed, spacious room and bathroom. Central location downtown with parking infront of the hotel.

Review 51:I was there early April, still cold weather, I couldn't get the room to warm up. Basically the problem was when I was sitting at the desk, the warm air reached me as a cool breeze, uncomfortable. Other than that, really nice room. They were still remodeling some areas of the hotel.

Review 52:I had a king room at the corner of the building, 5th floor; room was very spacious, very nice, recently remodeled, bathroom was huge as well. Very quiet, I had a great sleep. Hot breakfast was good.

Review 53:The woman behind the desk at checkout on 4/11 was more concerned with her personal conversation with a friend then servicing me as a guest.

Review 54:Friendly checking in staff and valet drivers.

Review 55:I love the atmosphere of older buildings, the staff was super, friendly and accommodating , the facilities were clean, well maintained and quite, even while undergoing a renovation. The free breakfast was very good. I will return!

Review 56:We arrived late at night and a problem with the computer caused significant delay after several hours of travel- I basically had to re-make the reservation, even though I've stayed there before. The room's sink was clogged. The worst was that when I left for a meeting at 8:30am, our bill was on the floor outside our door, face up (not in an envelope or even folded) for any passerby to take my personal information. I was extremely disappointed by that lack of respect for private info that read like a passive aggressive "get out." I'll stay somewhere else next time.

Review 57:The hotel itself is lovely and previous stays have been very pleasant. The staff tries to be helpful and the hotel is mostly clean.

Review 58:The room was a tiny bit thin walled. I suggest ear plugs and you'll have a great time~

Review 59:This was an amazing find. The staff were super friendly and accomodating. The place was lovely. (o.k. the elevator could use a little spiffying) but the room was great. And the price was exceptional!

Review 60:no more piano bar upstairs, new pillows were hard on neck...fortunately brought extras.

Review 61:good location, clean and very nicely updated, priced well for a small, beautiful boutique hotel in Albany with great service.

Review 62:a beautiful old hotel in transition to new management. Looking forward to coming back and seeing some of the public areas returned to former glory including the breakfast area downstairs.

Review 63:if you don't want to stay in a generic property within close access to downtown Albany, then this is the right hotel for you. room size and comfort as well as general ascetics were all top-notch value for the price

Review 64:Everything. Online it says that this is a boutique hotel. It's not at all! There is no food & the only you can get in the way of a glass are plastic cups. I would never have booked this hotel if I thought it was the way it was!

Review 65:I was put in 3 rooms. First one had a broken lock, second reeked of smoke (supposed to be a non-smoking hotel) and third the automatic lock was broken (in fact, I walked up to the room to the dead bolt thrown to prevent the door from closing so it was open). They also don't have room service.

Review 66:Place was clean and had a good location

Review 67:The location is at the bottom of State Street, so taking a taxi around isn't a bad idea, unless you want the exercise.

Review 68:The room was quite spacious, and the fireplace was more than adequate. Breakfast was also good.

Review 69:Fireplace kept turning back on and parking is really hard to find. You pretty much have to pay for the valet service.

Review 70:The room was cozy, nice tub and fireplace

Review 71:Incredible staff. Everyone was happy and helpful at all times. The room was very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was perfect and quite varied.

Review 72:Elevator panels need some work. :( They take away from, the look and feel of the property.

Review 73:The lady in charge of breakfast was awesome! A cheerful "good morning" from her each morning was great.

Review 74:This hotel is a great value. It's not as high-end as the Hilton across the street, but it's perfectly acceptable and the staff was friendly and exceptionally helpful. There's even a free breakfast bar in the morning.

Review 75:Shower water pressure was okay but could have been stronger.

Review 76:Staff was very friendly and extremely helpful both during a late arrival and the following day. Would definitely come back to this location.

Review 77:The cleanliness of the room could be better, the first day was good but afterwards not enough attention was paid.

Review 78:Good location. Friendly staff. In the breakfast there was also fruit. Also water and coffee and tea all day.

Review 79:Room was very clean and bed was extremely comfortable. Location was PERFECT!!! Beautiful City

Review 80:very elegant room. Very quiet and relaxing.

Review 81:Same as above

Review 82:Impossible to say since the room I booked 6 weeks in advance was resold.. had to scramble for another place.. not at all acceptable.

Review 83:Some quests were too rowdy, site was in the middle of a renovation

Review 84:Room was comfortable

Review 85:The Room was unbelievable for the money and everyone was friendly!

Review 86:Good location. Friendly staff. Big room.

Review 103:Nice room, free on street parking.

Review 104:Breakfast could have a had a few more options.

Review 105:The bed was very comfortable. Room was extremely clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 106:Carpets a bit garish!

Review 107:Convenient location. Comfy bed. Good bathroom especially the shower. Friendly staff.

Review 108:Came back my room and it wasn't cleaned at all. While I was sleeping at night, new customers came in to my room... So horrifying :(

Review 109:Pillows were too big

Review 110:Very nice updated room. With large bath.

Review 111:Hotel is undergoing construction/remodeling but there was no advance notice at time of booking or on their website

Review 112:Nothing to dislike.

Review 113:Convenient location, excellent breakfast, friendly staff.

Review 114:Very poor breakfast. Breakfast staff not interested - too busy on their phones. Tiny window in room.

Review 115:Friendly and helpful reception. Very nice beds.
