Reviews for Seal Cove Inn

Review 1:Breakfast starts at 8:30 am, so I missed it due to having to be at my client's location at 8:00 am. Packing it to take with me was not a practical option.

Review 2:The setting was quite lovely with beautiful gardens, fireplaces in the rooms, and a balcony where you could hear the sea. It was a short walk to the trail where you can see the cove where the seals stay.

Review 3:- Breakfast - The options were disappointing. Given the amazing infrastructure of a gourmet kitchen, articles in the news paper, I was expecting some major offerings. Might be worthwhile to review what is served at a B&B (?) It didn't work at all. - Need a study desk in room : )

Review 4:Location, great staff, amazing rooms - a great place to unwind! Sharon & Stacey - very very helpful! The water and coffee/tea provided was a great idea! It works.

Review 5:The beds are very uncomfortable =(

Review 6:Charming escape with beautiful surroundings. Fashioned after a European B&B, you really feel like you are getting away from it all. The continental breakfast which is included, is delicious & has a wonderful presentation! We have been coming to Half Moon Bay for years & just discovered this place & will definitely go back.

Review 7:Beautiful rooms, fantastic breakfast, divine soaps, shampoo and conditioner and great quiet location. Easy stroll to the beach. Welcoming, friendly hosts.

Review 8:A little expensive. no toothbrush. No biggie.

Review 9:Private and comfortable, short beautiful walk to marine sanctuary. Fireplace and patio is a nice touch. Furnishings lovely and not ostentatious.

Review 10:The beautiful room had no drawers or shelves. I understand other rooms do have them so this could be easily correctable.

Review 11:Beautiful elegant house and garden. Short walk to the beach.

Review 12:This hotel is a cross between an upmarket lodge in which people are left to look after themselves, and a conventional hotel. the common parts of the hotel, e.g. shared room and lobby give it an open house feel. The canned music in the garden we could have done without It seemed a lot of money for what we got.

Review 13:Amazing location very close to the beach

Review 14:NOTHING BAD AT ALL!

Review 15:I LOVED the beautiful setting, the ability to grab a drink, or a cookie, whenever I wanted, the lovely, delicious breakfast, the location, the quiet, the friendly staff: EVERYTHING!!!

Review 16:We met 1 staff person arriving & 1 leaving. "Cold"was our immediate reaction, no elevator & no one offered assistance with bags. Meeting us a second time & again in the a.m ... We were "the ones in #9" no names ever! Garden in back ... Dead flowers. Won't be back.

Review 17:Overall look was nice but compared to other inns we found it over priced. Other than its location, it was basically less than a basic Marriott. It was clean.

Review 18:There should be a sofa bed for the third people but there wasn't, so someone slept on the floor for 2 nights.

Review 19:This is the best hotel during our stay in US...althought it's small, it is no less delicate than Vegas hotels like Venetian and Bellagio. Linens and quilts are of great quality. Shampoo conditioner and body wash are natural herb. The sea view is spectacular, the little inn is tidy and beautiful, with the best breakfast.

Review 20:Staff was very unprofessional when speaking on the phone. If there is a conflict with a guest or booking, then the conversation should not be had at the desk in front as the entire common area can hear the conversation. Also, my card was charged for the entire amount 3 times in two days, and two are still showing as a pending charges on the 31st. Annoying and unnecessary! Breakfast was marginal and bathrooms need an update.

Review 21:Location and ambiance

Review 22:Although the breakfast was very tasty, I would have loved more hot choices such as eggs or French Toast. But everything was fresh and could choose several items.

Review 23:The Seal Cove Inn is a real gem. My wife and I were made to feel very welcome and the grounds are stunning: like staying at a French Mas in Provence. There are beautiful hikes along the bluffs above Moss beach for a romantic getaway.

Review 24:The breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. However, a B&B should have at least a choice of a cooked breakfast available and SCI didn't.

Review 25:The SCI is a delight. It is well-designed, with simple and pleasing decor. It is sparkling clean with a lovely garden with humming birds, quail, rabbits, etc., and herbal aromas. It has a wonderful setting near a cypress forest. A pleasant walk through the trees takes you to a spectacular seacoast complete with seals. The staff are welcoming, cordial and helpful.

Review 26:Began with the BEST breakfast we have ever had at a B&B. Room was beautiful with lots of light, private balcony to enjoy the outside overlooking the garden and woods. Staff exceptional and helpful. Next to a State ocean preserve, with easy walk.

Review 27:Strict policy about not checking in before 3 can lead to a log jam effect-if the room really is not ready why not offer a seat in the lounge with coffee rather than send guests away?A pool would be a nice addition for the price.

Review 28:Very attentive service in a 10 room boutique hotel that is like staying with friends(rich ones) The location is superb with deer, rabbits and humming birds and of course seals with great walks through woods to the beaches.

Review 29:Would have liked a small dresser or chest to put clothes into.

Review 30:The individual staff was one of the best I have encountered. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 31:We really enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel. The management is very gracious, and the grounds and rooms are beautiful. We stayed on a Thursday. Very tranquil. Definitely a nature lover's paradise. In lovely back garden, we saw bunnies, foxes, field mice and a young deer munching on the flowers. A short walk to the beach where an abundant number seals are sunning on the sand. Wish we could have stayed longer but they were sold out of rooms for the weekend.

Review 32:A large selection for breakfast would be nice, but other than that it was still good. Also, I think they should serve cheeses and crackers with the wine instead of nuts. Fresh warm sweet pastries would be more enjoyable instead of what was served.

Review 33:The location was very nice and the proximity to half moon bay.

Review 34:Nothing!

Review 35:This was by far the most enjoyable stay I ever had at a Hotel. It all started with a very warm welcome. The room was very nice and after relaxing for a few moments I was served a free glas of (excellent) wine in the garden. I can only highly recommend this hotel as it stands out of all other locations I visited in the past. If you need to relax after a strenuous week in Silicon Valley this is definetly the place where you want to go to. BTW: When I went out of the hotel with my camera, the staff recongnized that I was taking the wrong way and directed me to the correct foot path to the beach. Unbelievable. They really care about their guests. This is the first time I give a '10' rating.

Review 36:The place was a bit cold figuratively. Guest room lovely full of amenities...common areas could use a bit more warmth...rugs,art,fresh flowers. Too many hard surfaces. Chilly nights yet no welcoming fire in the heArth. Staff was efficient ...too efficient at times...just let me eat my breakfast! Doors to kitchen need to be shut...a workman leaning on the counter sipping coffee an ambience killer. Gardens lovely. Neighborhood a little sketchy...but once you arrived heavenly

Review 37:Room...amenities...walk to the shore...gardens...breakfast

Review 38:We have no complaints.

Review 39:Beautiful coastal decor in a posh B&B. The owners are meticulous in their service and attention to detail. Adjacent to the marine reserve and Moss Beach with very little exposure to traffic and non-guest activities.

Review 40:Need better internet (slow) Need a washer and dryer (this is a beach location) Music played too loud in lobby

Review 41:Everything else was great Staff, facility, grounds, food, all amazing

Review 42:Right in the flight take-off path of the nearby small plane airport. But, the windows are thick and the planes stop at night.

Review 43:Beautiful property, large rooms, and friendly staff. Fireplace in the rooms and comfortable beds.

Review 44:We were right on the lobby, common area so it was noisy one of the three days we were there. Very minor issue, and probably specific to that room.

Review 45:I really enjoyed the excellent and friendly staff. The breakfast was incredible and the location was beautiful.

Review 46:We were a little surprised to know that there's no staff manning the hotel after 8pm. We had arrived late and there was an envelope taped to the front door with a welcome letter and our room key in it. (must be a safe area!) Bathroom was a tad small with some ants, but still ok.

Review 47:This is a B&B type inn, so visitors expecting a full fledged hotel should be warned. It was a pleasant surprise for us - really quiet, great breakfast (you can almost taste the attention and care put into it) and we were delighted to meet a few bunnies hopping around the garden =) The surrounding views of the bay and seal cove were great (too bad for us it was misty and high tide so we didn't get to see any seals) Really big comfortable bed with soft comfy sheets. Overall a pleasant stay and would recommend.

Review 48:It would be great if the property had a hot tub or at least a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. A firepit in the garden would also be a nice bonus. Our bathroom was very minimalist and somewhat outdated. It didn't match the rest of the property which is really beautiful.

Review 49:The property is in a very serene setting within walking distance to the ocean. We loved the super soft bedding and pillows as well as the cozy fireplace! The gardens are lovely with lots of visiting quail. After a delicious breakfast we walked the ocean trail out to seal cove. Beautiful view!

Review 50:After my GPS couldn't find Seal Cove Inn In HM Bay Ca, I called and they told me they were in Moss Beach about 10 miles north of HMB. The place was peaceful, and the setting was perfect. Close to the Ocean and trails to walk.

Review 51:I guess I did'nt realize untill the first evening that the wine and appetizer was limited to only one glass of wine per guest unless you ask for a second one.

Review 52:Everything was perfect, the food was excellent and ample portions.

Review 53:We enjoyed our 3 course breakfast but noted you cannot make any other choices( other than for special dietary reasons) It was not an issue for us and would love to stay there again.

Review 54:The location and property were great. Lovely to have a real fire in the room and a balcony with comfortable seats. The property is more of a boutique hotel. Great to have complimentary hot and cold drinks available.

Review 55:I know it is almost fall end of summer but the back yard could have been a little bit better up kept. We walked around the back and seen rabbits and quail so cool but the flowers did not look to nice. The other thing would have to be the fire place is great but the next day it still smelled like the duraflame. We had to leave the back door open, its ok if your on the second floor but you can't on the first floor.

Review 56:Location is great, friendly staff, breakfast is wonderful, rooms are cozy, bikes are fun, grounds are fancy and very clean. This is our second time and we love it. We plan on coming back and we tell all our friends about it. We meet all walks of friendly visitors and hear of so many places to try and there is so much to do around the location. Espresso machine is new and very delicious.

Review 57:I would like an ocean view, but you wouldn't have the privacy if it was in a different location.

Review 58:The breakfast, wine, and nibbles were excellent! The sheets were of the best quality!

Review 59:When we arrived I asked the young woman in attendance where I could smoke (wanting to be respectful). I suddenly got "attitude" from her and she warned me "not to set the park on fire". Frankly, I am 60 years old and don´t need to be lectured by a 30-something, it left a rather bad taste in my mouth from the get-go. However the rest of the staff were great. The rooms are designed for couples, which we were not.

Review 60:This is a gem of a place in so many ways! I visited with my sister. Beautiful building with a lovely garden, beautifully cared-for. Great breakfast, lots of little thoughtful "extras." The park right next to the B&B is not to be missed. The staff (with the exception of the attached), were just great, helpful and warm. We loved it!

Review 61:The Staff was extremely courteous and attentive, the room was outstanding with a garden patio, the atmosphere and attention to detail in every aspect of the Inn was perfect, and the food was delicious (oh ya, the evening wine was equally as nice!)

Review 62:Love the fireplace, balcony, gardens, and the proximity of the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. The breakfast was superb, and the availability of complimentary bottled water, juice and sodas was a nice touch.

Review 63:On the evening of arrival person who checked us in had some kind of attitude We arrived around 5 pm and saw that there was wine tasting and appetizers When we came down to meet people and do some wine testing 10 min later no one was there We had to ask if we could do wine tasting as well We were given some wine with Gain a lot of unfriendliness My fain asked for some snack if it was still available The same person who checked us in sad : " o you want some food too?" So we just said that we thought that the wine testing was still going on and didn't think that we needed to ask for things it should be just a part of hospitality Therefore the arrival part was little unpleasant and we didn't even know that there was wine tasting until we saw other people doing that, and it was only shortly after 5 pm. It was my birthday, we were looking forward to stay at your place. We finally involved the person ( too bad didn't get her name) into a conversation about places to go for dinner, and she was trying to be helpful. However, the way she acted was weary mysterious and questionable for a great place like yours, I would expect more hospitality and friendly staff.

Review 64:Great tranquility Excellent morning staff Beautiful accommodations Delicious breakfast I am glad we chose you instead of Ritz for my birthday Thank you

Review 65:Loved the breakfast. It was perfect. Staff was so nice. Great location with a lot to do nearby.

Review 66:There was simply nothing to do but relax, enjoy the views and take a walk or two.

Review 67:The staff was very welcoming. They really want you to have a good time. The fireplace in the room was lovely. The breakfast was awesome!

Review 68:Not kid friendly.

Review 69:Love the breakfast, the location of the inn, friendly staff, and the amenities.

Review 71:Love the gracious atmosphere. It's just so lovely!!!!!

Review 72:Beautiful surroundings and very comfortable, quiet room with excellent service.

Review 73:The first floor was noisy in the morning. We were in room 1 and we could hear the breakfast preparations in the kitchen area.

Review 74:Beautiful setting. Right near the beach but secluded. Great location and near everything. Kevin and staff were top notch.

Review 75:Excellent in all respects.

Review 76:The Inn was very nice. staff was very helpful. Atmosphere was very charming

Review 77:Need air in room fan or something

Review 78:The property/Inn was great. Clean, comfortable and quiet!

Review 79:It was so nice we had to force ourselves to go out to town and do things.

Review 80:Privacy and location near coasst

Review 81:You need better coffee. Maybe it's the water.

Review 82:The quiet, the beauty of the gardens and surroundings. The friendly staff. The cleanliness.

Review 94:You feel lkke you are in Provence by the sea-magical place-absolutely wonderful!

Review 107:Very cozy and comfortable. Easy to relax in our room with a fireplace or a walk to the beach

Review 108:The walk to the beach and thru the Cypress Grove is not to be missed!

Review 109:My only complaint was that when we were checking out, we were a few minutes late and comments were made to make us feel was an inconvenience even though it was very close to the check-out time.

Review 110:The hotel was very quiet and clean. Breakfast was delicious every morning.

Review 111:The new owners are still working on renovations. We were surprised young children were in this B and B environment.

Review 112:We liked the happy hour and breakfast. They provided limited amounts, but the quality was great. Bed was very comfortable.

Review 113:Décor, Ambiance and beautiful gardens. Location was excellent as well. Short walk to the beach, awesome sunsets and great wild live including whales and seals. Very Cool and relaxing place.
