Reviews for Modern Hotel
Review 1:The Modern is a mellow place to stay when you are in Boise. The rooms are comfortable and just hip enough to make you feel like you are ready to have a good time. The restaurant has fabulous food in a unpretentious setting. The outdoor fires are great to sit down savor a drink from the bar and plan your evening. What can I say, it is my go to place to stay in Boise.
Review 2:Great location, close to everything in downtown Boise. Loved the mid-century decor. We had a nice room with balcony, very comfortable bed and great shower. We will definitely stay there again.
Review 3:To get to the room was through a dark alley and with a view to the parking lot.
Review 4:They have done a good job upgrading this old Motel building. Nice bar/ restaurant on site.
Review 5:Only complaint is the pillows and bed were a bit stiff to me, would be nice to offer a couple varieties for pillows.
Review 6:Nice, remodeled motel...did a fantastic job bringing up-to-date. Very contemporary and stylish. Staff was super pleasant and helpful. Walking distance to restaurants and bars (plus the motel has it's own bar/restaurant)
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:Location set out of hotel friendliness of staff and food Everything was done with a smile and a pleasant comment The client was there to be served as he/she wished rather than this what we have whether you like it or not
Review 9:Windows opened but there was road construction going on all night so we couldn't get fresh air. However, A/C was very quiet.
Review 10:Front desk person got us a fridge upon request. As requested, had a room far from the bar. Very modern and cool, unique place to stay. Loved being able to take a quick walk to the capitol.
Review 11:The laundry or hall smell was unbearable for those with allergies and perfume sensitivity. Bathroom sink not level so pooled water. Lower room was dank and musty.
Review 12:Rooms upstairs were fabulous! Great design, very comfy beds. People great and the desk clerk was UNDERSTANDING to shift us to upstairs room when I asked. ;-) Restaurant was very excellent and loved the bar and sitting outside for breakfast in the AM.
Review 13:Excellent small boutique kind of hotel, friendly staff, nice bar & restaurant with good food & wine which changes all the time. Just keep coming back to this place and its always a pleasure.
Review 14:Breakfast was free but extremely basic. Would have preferred to pay and get something better, especially since they do have a restaurant in house.
Review 15:Modern hotel with pretty design. Room was decorated with minimal style, bed was very comfortable, loved the big shower. Food at the restaurant was good, and rather cheap.
Review 16:Breakfast was fantastic, a big step above most hotels. Also, guests were given free access to 39 short films, maybe less, and they were spectacular. This was a wonderful addition to the hotel and both these reasons are why we will stay at the Modern one more time.
Review 17:I liked the hotel, the room I was given had things wrong with it that I wouldn't expect from a hotel with such a high review and price point. The shower handle felt like it was going to fall off into my hand, and the head board of the bed had what looked like sweat stains on it, and was a little gross. The furniture didn't look "modern" or even like period furniture, it just looked worn and beat up a little.
Review 18:The bike loan was a nice touch. The fresh squeezed juice in the morning, was quite delicious. The bar/restaurant made a tasty cocktail.
Review 19:Nothing comes to mind...even the area which used to be somewhat ran down, now has nice, clean shops. One of which being a liquor store which was most convenient.
Review 20:Everyone seemed very upbeat and genuinely happy to see us. They were fun and informative. Later when I had some questions about my bill the manager was very professional, competent, and eager to help. I would like to stay again when we can stay longer.
Review 21:The bathroom could have been more practical. The sink is very flat and the rain shower is not the most comfortable shower.
Review 22:The room has a nice design, very clean and comfortable. We had a nice cocktail on the sunny terrace, very relaxed setting.
Review 23:No under 21 dinner (except for outside ). The weekday breakfast is more of a bread and coffee thing. Nothing hot prepared.
Review 24:Bar vibe is cool, free loaner bikes to cruise downtown. Food and appetizers were top notch.
Review 25:Breakfast was sparse and not good, sweat stain on the headboard of the bed, staff was just sufficient, no/bad parking. This was not a 133.00 room, it was a $60 room
Review 26:Location was convenient, fire pits were cool, restaurant had nice ambiance.
Review 27:I really like the decor and "modern" look of the hotel and mostly I enjoyed the craft cocktails at the hotel bar. The outdoor fire places are awesome too!
Review 28:nothing - would recommend this place and stay there on our next trip to Boise.
Review 29:Location, quaint yet modern, retro cool, and super clean. Staff is very attentive and bar/restaurant nice as well.
Review 30:The actual product received was beat down and needed repair and replacement. Concept is great, but sacrifices comfort for style. Very loud not only because it's downtown, on a main road and the door to your room is on the street level, but you've also got yet another door facing the "hallway" inside the hotel. In addition the upstairs is VERY loud. You can hear just about every movement. Rainfall showers are a killer idea....but time has shown they're very unusable and provide no benefit over a conventional spout. I'd suggest for the benefit of your female clientele to get those changed out on your next renovation. Value for what I paid was pretty poor...I'm a hotel snob so you may take this with a grain of salt, but I feel that a Holiday Inn (new) is a better stay for the same "style".... It was very much a renovated motel. It feels like a renovated motel but they charge downtown HOTEL prices. No pool. No fridge. "mini bar" was room temperature drinks and a few odds and ends. Need to get mini fridges in the rooms....yet again Holiday Inn. Overall I won't be back. It's a "neat" place to stay, but I don't see the $100+ per night rate. $75-80 makes more sense for the lack of amenities. You're ripping people off...
Review 31:The presentation online. The "concept" of the hotel was very attractive. The bar is great. Location is prime(ish)
Review 32:Protective covering on mattress was noisy
Review 33:location, excellent interior design, unique baths and showers, cozy rooms and spacious suites, comfortable beds, food in the restaurant was great and the coffee in the morning terrific.
Review 34:Bathroom door and shower have glazed windows to bedroom - cool style but maybe not when traveling with older children.
Review 35:"Modern" was mid-century modern! Cool. Arrived very late due to road conditions - staff was up and on duty all night. Good parking.
Review 36:The only drawback to me was the sink in the bathroom. A "design" sink, it was clogged and didn't drain well, so hard to see as very useful. No counter space around the sink to speak of. The only negative to this place!
Review 37:I loved the staff and the bar. Room was very comfortable and nice. TV had everything I wanted and wifi was excellent.
Review 38:I loved the kitchy feel of the property. The staff were helpful and attentive. The fire pits were an interesting touch, the bar was hip and fun. I wanted to try the brunch, but ran out of time. Overall a very positive experience.
Review 39:Very noisy, hotel sits right on a main road. The area behind hotel was were a group of street racers hung out so they were driving around all night. Not enough parking!
Review 40:The bed was comfortable, day staff was nice and room was clean.
Review 41:The staff in the hotel bar / restaurant was great, personable. The food wasn't as good as the drinks that were suggested and brought to our table. The focus was on friends and not the food
Review 42:The staff was courteous and suggested that we park our motorcycles in view of the front office. We are always concerned wherever we stay, even though we lock the motorcycles they are openly exposed to people passing by. The waitress was engaging and helpful with blind drink recommendations. Her suggestions were excellent. The rooms were very comfortable and redone with excellent results.
Review 43:The staff was amazing! Very friendly and helpful. From the loaner bicycles to the rainfall shower heads the Modern was a great place to stay!! In fact, we booked another night on our return trip through Boise and brought some friends along too!
Review 44:I went to the bar for a drink and waited a fair amount of time before I was waited on.
Review 45:The bed was very comfortable. Also, staff were very helpful with directions.
Review 46:The square shallow sink looked amazing, but its functionally was not that great.
Review 47:The ambiance of the place, especially the patio and bar areas, were comfortably informal and inviting. All the staff we interacted with were unfailingly friendly, efficient and helpful. The food and drinks were exceptionally creative. Comfortable beds and high quality linens.
Review 48:Super cool room layout with amazing shower. Very comfortable bed with excellent linens. Spotless. Great patio with a very zen feel. I could have sat out there for hours. Young, fun, friendly hotel staff that really welcomed you. Great amenities. Lots of space in the room. So much nicer than boring hotel. Complimentary breakfast with fresh bagels, good yogurt, granola and fantastic coffee... nice set up in the bar area. Love the art. I would definitely come back.
Review 49:It can be a little loud with traffic on weekends. I think they were drag racing behind my room!
Review 50:Nice modern rooms and beautiful bathroom
Review 51:Would be nice if room came with a free drink for how expensive it is
Review 52:Very chic, friendly staff, was nice and put up with my drunk rude husband
Review 53:Room was bare bones. Not that I didn't like it, just basic.
Review 54:Shower was killer. Top notch. Restaraunt had amazing food.
Review 55:Very clean, wonderful staff , and close enough to down town to walk back and forth
Review 56:So fun! Great location and nice rooms for the price. They obviously care about guest experience. I will definitely stay here again.
Review 57:Strong bleach smell in hallway near our room.
Review 58:In-room shorts film festival was fantastic. Tile shower very nice. Hotel bar one of the best.
Review 59:Limited parking & brunch
Review 60:The walk in shower the t v & the restaurant & bar in the hotel
Review 61:The noise of the bar in the room
Review 62:Personnel, location, the bar
Review 63:Looks like old motel but inside much nicer
Review 64:Shower
Review 65:No elevators to 2nd floor
Review 66:Location close to downtown
Review 67:the shower, the flow was poor and the shower head needs to be replaced.
Review 68:The room was well kept and clean.
Review 69:I thought it was a tad pricey for a room in Boise.
Review 70:The staff was friendly and courteous and you got a discount for breakfast.
Review 71:Great shower/facilities, comfortable modern rooms.
Review 72:Walking distance of historic downtown. Good cocktail bar and friendly staff.
Review 73:Noisy No coffee in the room No fridge Dogs barkings all evening in a room Very poor breakfast
Review 74:Shuttle and Bar
Review 75:Wonderful the use of the free bicycles and staff beyond helpful!
Review 76:Nice modern feel, bed suuper compfy, very friendly staff, and I mainly chose it because it was so close to Knitting Factory.
Review 77:The staff were very professional and attentive, the suite was amazing, and the continental breakfast was outstanding.
Review 78:Excellent service, love the bar/restaurant, ideal location downtown!
Review 79:Thin walls
Review 80:Breakfast was just bagels and coffee - no real selection.
Review 81:Comfortable sleeping Great bar and restaurant Music outside Close to downtown; walk to restaurants Fabulous brunch Great staff
Review 82:Great location. Very friendly personal! Stylish bar Modern rooms
Review 83:Bar closed at midnight
Review 84:Full service facility
Review 85:This hotel didn't have any amenities or swimming pool. Little storage. No cable TV or movie rentals. See through door to restroom.
Review 86:The couch and chair were very uncomfortable.
Review 87:We liked the bathtub and shower as well as the kitchen area.
Review 88:The staff was not welcoming, helpful or apologetic. I booked early, called to confirm and both times I asked for top floor accommodations, and reserved a bike. Not one of those things were done. We got a ground floor room, no bike, and they acted like we were asking for the moon. The room had stains on the blankets (crusty chunks on the bedspread) the sink didnt drain.... for at least 5minutes. When I went to the office to ask for help. I was told the sink was a slow drainer because it conserves water? By draining slow....nothing was done about my dirty blanket. They told me the room couldnt be changed because they were booked...(I booked early)
Review 89:I liked the location and the idea of the European decorated room.
Review 90:Shower head pressure far too soft. Bathroom sink very shallow and slow draining. Not having a coffee pot in the room.
Review 91:Walking distance to downtown, Capitol, and other tourist sites. The security (locked doors) to the enclosed quarters hallways. The continental breakfast.
Review 92:I thought $20 for our dog was a bit unreasonable. Most hotels we stay in charge $10.
Review 93:The continental breakfast was excellent. Wonderful fresh squeezed juice and great bagels and Greek Yogurt. Excellent coffee.
Review 94:Parking was a little lacking.
Review 95:We were in Boise for a short vacation and the central location of the hotel was perfect. Quite a few things were within walking distance. The staff was very friendly. The room although small was very comfortable. The rain shower was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. We were very surprised at the bar in the hotel. The drinks are original and the food is very good. We spent more time there than we thought we would.
Review 96:Some remodeling going on and started before we were ready to get up.
Review 97:The location was great for the things that we were doing in Boise. Close to downtown and not too far from the university. The mid-century modern decor was nice.
Review 98:-No fridge or microwave in room-sink is beautiful but not very functional
Review 99:-Decor and design is beyond lovely. Someone took their care with thisplace. I just can't say enough about this motel/hotel! It'smy new Boise mainstay!-Staff is so sweet and funny! -Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice in the morning. 'Nuff said. -There were no children there! It's a wonderful adult space.
Review 100:heater didn't work well--cold all night--poor sleep. if there is a room with a bathtub that would help to get really warmed up before going to sleep.
Review 101:staff, cleanliness, design, great breakfast!!!!!!--atmosphere. I come to town every 2 weeks and am looking for a "home away fro home"--love your place--need to make sure heater works, quiet room and bath if at all possible
Review 102:Wondered why Keurig coffee packets weren't replaced. Used the two provided initially; did not receive any more afterwards.
Review 103:Throughout our entire 5-day stay, the overall hospitality of The Modern Hotel's staff created a feeling of warm welcome. First time walked in the door, was greeted by name and provided with early checkin. Our Suite's modern design features were very attractive and comfortable; including immense bathroom, nice beds, living room, dinette--all very clean. Continental breakfast provided ample start to the day--excellent coffee, freshly squeezed OJ, homemade yogurt, hearty cereal, fresh bagels/croissants (Sundays), served in the Bar/Restaurant. Also highly recommend The Modern Hotel Bar/Restaurant for cocktails and most enjoyable, superb dinner; complete with dessert on their charming terrace. We'll be back!
Review 104:Ugly view from the rooms, but that's o.k. if it is expected.
Review 105:Staff was great -- very accommodating! Loved the breakfast [fresh O.J.=wow!]--all of it was very fresh, classy presentation! The bar and happy hour is fun & friendly. Really loved seeing the modern touches in the renovation. The longer I looked, the more amazing the details. Seems simple, yet effective in modern ambiance. GREAT shower. Liked having the little balcony & being able to have fresh air while sleeping. It was surprisingly quiet!?? We were there on Mon & Tues. nights.
