Reviews for Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel
Review 1:Being checked into a twin room as a couple was a surprise. Had to relocate to another room after a night so could not unpack and relax. However staff helpful in accommodating request to correct room type.
Review 2:Pool quickly gets deep, and is freezing. (e.g. shivering child and shivering adults). Not sure if this improves in the summer, but it was frigid even on 85 degree days in the winter. Hotel attached tiki bar restaurant had terrible food and was expensive. Parking, $27/day valet. And the tour buses have a tendency to block up the only street that services the lobby.
Review 3:Oceanfront rooms are amazing and offer a spectacular view of Waikiki. Elevators are different than other locations, but nicely optimize where you need to get. Never really waited around a long time for an elevator. Good location along Waikiki, near the end, and near the zoo.
Review 4:Elevators are a nightmare! Really, a little thing like this was painful after a few days. You have to scan your room card then take an elevator to a lobby level then get out and scan your card again and get another elevator (sometimes the same one!) to go to the room. It was awful to waste so much time getting into and out of the building. Parking fee is $27 a day (yikes!). Room was generally clean and tidy but interiors were "tired", and more than once we did not get body soap after room service.
Review 5:Location on the Waikiki strip is great. On site valet parking makes getting and giving your car a breeze. Oceanview room is really ocean view.. we could see all of the action in the Waikiki water.
Review 6:little bit old.expensive parking fee. There are lots of hiding fee.. Meanwhile. There is a ice machine and soft drink machine in front of my room.. Crazy noise!! Cannot even sleep.. But good location
Review 7:Tikis bar & grill wasn't great in our opinion but maybe we just made a bad menu choice although menu did claim to be the best coconut shrimp. I had better food in Lu Lu's just around the corner & all other places we eat away from the hotel were amazing. Sorry Tki's you are nice people but the food didnt match
Review 8:Great location. Everything you could possibly need on a trip to Honolulu. Price was good. Restaurants and facilities close to hotel were perfect for our needs. Hotel reception staff lovely, welcoming & helpfull. the lady that cleaned our room was the sweetest lady. Really felt surrounded by nice happy people in the hotel and throughout our stay.
Review 9:The hotel has discontinued the "breakfast on the beach" program, though they gave us a $10 per person voucher at the restaurant attached to the hotel.
Review 10:The location is the greatest asset for this job hotel. Room views are spectacular. A good bargain for the area. Convenient to all Waikiki shopping and less than a minute to the beach.
Review 11:The resort fee was an unexpected charge which we didn't think was justified. We paid a huge amount to stay here for two nights and the standard of the hotel didn't match the price we paid. The bell boy (Mike) messed up our shuttle bus booking. The shuttle bus never turned up so after 30mins we enquired with the bell boy who then said that the bus wouldn't be coming for yet another 30mins. We were then late for our flight. We then had to take it upon ourselves to get a taxi to the airport so we were able to get there in time. This left a sour taste at the end of our stay
Review 12:Tikis coconut shrimps
Review 13:I wasnt too impressed with the staff, but I do have to give them the benefit of doubt because it was overbooked during the marathon season and the staff may or may not have been under pressure. The facilities were alright except almost everything is chargeable in the amenities.
Review 14:Location. #1 and possibly the only thing I liked about staying at this property.
Review 15:Secure parking appeared expensive and breakfast vouchers didn't cover the cost of breakfast, which was supposedly included in the tariff.
Review 16:Superb location, which was handy both for the beach and local restaurants. The views from the hotel were excellent.
Review 17:Rooms a little dated. Small busy pool right next to a restaurant.
Review 18:The location is great! Beach right across the street and short walks to good restaurants
Review 19:The housekeeping kept coming in to the room. They would knock once, we would say we were getting dressed and to please wait and they would just come in. This happened 3 out of the 7 days we were there
Review 20:The location was right on the beach, but the room was very run down for the price.
Review 21:Room furnishings are dated, this is nice if you are budgeted, not business friendly. No room service, laundry service, no desk.
Review 22:Staff was friendly, Valet parking are fast.
Review 23:It was surprised. I dont understand. Never seen it in my life. leaving the room in the morning, I wrote a meno for cleaner. As a fan made nosiy last night I couldnt asleep. Ask for fix the fan though writing when I leave the room. But It wasnt fix. There is using only valet parkig. A staff confused my car key where is. Finally I found out my key in the car. If my key is lost, I'll have to pay panalty a lots momey. I dont want make a reservation Aston waikiki beach hotel again. Naver!
Review 24:Despite booking well in advance and requesting a king bed we were told only a twin room was available. It was our honeymoon so pretty poor form. There were also 'resort fees' which you have to pay even if you don't want to use the resort services. On top of this there was a union protest about worker rights at the hotel. Room and bathroom was very dated. Terrible value and service considering the price. Stay elsewhere.
Review 25:Not much apart from the location
Review 26:Our room was comfortable and clean and very quiet despite being in a very busy area of Waikiki. Air conditioning was good, and we even had a beautiful view of the ocean even though we were at the far end of the hotel.
Review 27:I booked a king room. Upon check in they were unable to find it. We had to wait a long time while they looked for a room for us, even though I had prepaid it.
Review 28:The location is great
Review 29:As we are not used to gratuities, we were at the pool and decided to get a drink from the tiki restaurant, the barman after we had paid was rude when we had forgotten to leave a tip, and said sarcastically Thanks for being so generous.
Review 30:Great location, great staff
Review 31:Would have been great to have a bit more help when we asked for information. Ended up just going to the ambassadors. They were great No info in room about getting around or restaurant etc Reservation staff gave us both different info when wanting to rebook. Was a bit frustrating when we went to rebook and told different thibgs
Review 32:Nothing. All great.
Review 33:Excellent location, staff very helpful and friendly, super comfortable beds, cleaners did a fantastic job as the place was always spotless. The bar/restaurant is a plus too - good food and cocktails and fantastic view of the beach.
Review 34:The only thing I didn't like is the room temperature. I turned the air conditioner to the lowest setting but my room was still very warm.
Review 35:I love the atmosphere and the aesthetics of the hotel itself. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I have stayed here before and had similar treatment.
Review 36:We only stayed one night & the two staff members we came in contact with were not very friendly or helpful
Review 37:We loved the location of this hotel & the rooms were clean & spacious
Review 38:Unkind staffs and there was a too long line when checking in. Almost I had to wait for 30 mins in very hot weather. Inconvenient elevator system and had to pay $27 a day for parking. Too small swimming pool and too many people.
Review 39:Reasonable price, good location and nice view.
Review 40:I had requested ocean view and had upgraded to get it I ended up with partial view. my friends did not upgrade and had ocean view. waz told I would receive a gift package in my room when checking in. no package. spoke to front desk. said it would be placed in room. asked again about it at check out. had to ask for manager in order to receive it. Awesome service from Michelle in tiki bar. no sure her last name bug if rhymed with her first. She waz terrific. appreciated her service
Review 41:Guys to collect luggage were very delayed in collecting our bags I had to remind them when I had come down to bottom to wait for shuttle bus to arrive I had rung 15min prior, they were good but this let them down. One of the room card/key was faulty had a hard time getting into our room with the card.so used one card.
Review 42:The Activities information desk were very friendly and helpful. They gave alot of great advice. Restaurant good and pool good.
Review 43:The hotel was quite rundown with very small rooms. The bathroom especially in room 506 needed to be re-done. I would'nt want to spend my vacation there but it would be OK for a night or 2.
Review 44:The food at Tiki's was very good but it is also very noisy
Review 45:The staff was supposed to call me when my room was ready and never did. The facility was disgusting and the room was extremely expensive. I will extremely disappointed... Makes me think twice about using booking.com.
Review 46:Nothing.
Review 47:The fact you always had to get off the elevator at lobby you couldn't just go straight down to first floor
Review 48:That our room was always clean. Everyone was very nice smiling and valet never took long to have our car brought around. Would stay there again definately. Location was the best
Review 49:Couldn't charge meals at the Tiki restaurant to your room, breakfast was poor, had to change rooms as keys wouldn't work and balcony door wouldn't close, got upgrade, thank you, nice and roomy, however aircon blew onto the window side bed and no way of turning the van down, the whole hotel is tired and for the room rate charged we may have been able to get better quality a street or so back. Feel the daily charge is steep for what you get. Couldn't log into our rooms wifi in the first allocated room so logged into the room the floor below! Most of the front desk staff were helpful, some could've been better.
Review 50:Location, comfortable beds, views from room great
Review 51:Internet wifi didn't work good and not at all on our deck. Room was very outdated, tv took for ever to turn on, no chairs in the room, just stools. Only one chair on deck, deck door wouldn't close, small room, air conditioning didn't work properly, and couldn't take elevator to lower level. Had to go to lobby to take another elevator to the valet.
Review 52:Staff were friendly. View was nice from our room.
Review 53:The rooms on the small side. Needs updating. Cleanliness average.
Review 54:Good location ,friendly staff very accommodating for storing your luggage, after checkout, & arranging shuttle or taxi.
Review 55:Breakfast ( can't choose any you like and amount) High cost fee( park car . Room water. R fee) Small room Different to use elevator
Review 56:Location(front of beach)
Review 57:Breakfast included in the daily rate of an extra $25 should consist of more than a brown paper bag with a muffin, a granola bar and a piece of fruit.
Review 58:Lication
Review 59:The hotel was old with very average interiors and environment and a lack of facilities. The cost was high but this reflects the close proximity to the beach. I would not pay the same level of cost simply for beach proximity when most hotels are within a 5min walk to the beach.
Review 60:The location was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 61:Only thing I didn't like so much was the noise from the Tiki bar below at night, but it wasn't that bad.
Review 62:Excellent location. Right opposite the beach. They upgraded me to an Ocean view room and it was a gorgeous view.
Review 63:I didn't like anything. I thought I would pay a certain amount and when I got there they charged me as amenity fee of 23 dollars for use of phone TV health club. I feel that I could have just gotten a better hotel with that money. Very old facility You should have let me know that parking was an up charge. And that there was an amenity fee.
Review 64:Hidden fees. Old facilities. I am more upset with booking. Com than I am the hotel. You guys should be watching out for your customers.
Review 65:BathRoom was Full in hair when I entered the room. They cleaned immediately. But only 80%. And it wasn't possible in the next 5 days to get the room cleaned
Review 66:Location. Lose to the beach.
Review 67:they only give 2 cups of coffee per room for the price of the room the coffee should be unlimited we called the front desk they charge $2.00 per cup for xtra
Review 68:ocean front view what could be bad
Review 69:last time i stayed there breakfast was included this was now not the case which I was not aware of ( very disappointing) and I was able to use the wi-fi around the pool area as well last time but this time was retricted to the room only.
Review 70:DVD are free to watch.
Review 71:Breakfast needs improvement including seating and a better place for it. Vehicle parking cost was too much!
Review 72:The location was nice. The staff was very friendly.
Review 73:Just found that the reception staff (some of them - with the exception of the girl who checked us in who was lovely) were quite unfriendly and didnt offer much help with any questions we had. We kept getting referred back to the tourist kiosks which we didnt want as we wanted general advice not touist things.
Review 74:Totally loved location and found most of the staff very helpful and really friendly - like they enjoy their job :) Pool area was good and the opportunity to upgrade breakfast to eggs at a good price was really appreciated.
Review 75:Staffs are polite but not that warm. Lobby and public space are just so so.
Review 76:Location is quiet and convenient. Room view is fantastic at top floor, of course I selected one of their best rooms.
Review 77:Loved the paper bag for Breakfast but it was only a pastry, piece of fruit and muesli bar, would suggest including a yoghurt or cereal as well
Review 78:Location, down the quieter end of Waikiki beach but close enough to to walk wvereywhere.
Review 79:No breakfast
Review 80:Stayed here before used to have a great breakfast but no longer Fairly good location for swimming but is at end of strip so fair wall to restaurants
Review 81:To charge a daily fee for a "resort fee" was very poor. Breakfast, whilst described as a continental breakfast, is very poorly presented effort near the pool with clearly insufficient setting for the majority of customers who have to sit on poolside banana lounges whilst the restaurant area remains closed off for no apparent reason as it is used during the day.
Review 82:Well located, room booked as partial ocean view, yet the view was quite good from the balcony including sunsets.
Review 83:I did not feel that the first man that I worked with a front desk was in integrity. I was told there was no room would be available for hours after we had already booked this on line. When I questioned why so many others in other lines were checking in and had rooms he said it depended on the category of room and if I would just purchase a room that was $100 more a night he could make that available. We paid over $500 for 2 nights with no ocean view. We were there because of weather rerouting. It is a beautiful area but when you cannot check in and are watching others check in and you are clearly being hustled to get a room upgrade if you want a room, there is a public relations problem and event that occurs. I bought this malarkey for an exhaustive while and went to another front desk person and there was a room available magically. This clerk did not make us wait the 4 hours that previous clerk was wearing us down with. He had our room available 3 hours before I was told that it would be humanly possible to get into that room. It seemed evident to me that if that front desk guy could not hustle another couple hundred out of me, a room was not going to be made available. It seems curious to me that when I walked away from him and waited with no where to go for a brief while and instead went to another fd personnel and he had a room ready for me right away, something was up. It was my son and me. This man would probably not attempt to do that with another man of the family present. I have no doubt this is a routine hustle. I do not care for hotels that have this mentality - commission based hustle and pressure put on workers and imposed on guests. I prefer a classy - how can we help and what can we do to make your stay more lovely.
Review 84:The housekeeping staff and work staff were amazing helpful and responsive people. The front desk man I dealt With was telling me my room was not ready and told me the only room I could have was a hundred more a night. I saw many people being checked in and went back and worked with someone else and there was a room available. I do not think a separate amenity charge is appropriate when we are already paying over !$200 a night.
Review 85:Poor and rude staff, not good value for money anywhere near what we expected compared to what we paid in other parts of States and Hawaii
Review 86:Good location near the beach
Review 87:We asked for a high floor room and got stuck on the sixth floor. The room was the size of a broom closet and quite shabby. The power to the tv didn't work and the toilet was clogged when we got there. They did apologize and said they were putting us in a better room. Next room was on the 17th floor, which was better. But, it was the exact same size.
Review 88:Breakfast was a nice touch with local pastries. The location right across the street from the beach was great
Review 89:Beware bed bugs!! We family stayed at this hotel for 11 days and we wereall bitten severely at this hotel by bed bugs. I had approx 500 bitesall over my body, even on my eyelids! Many of my bites turned into hugewelts and blisters (really revolting and sore). With the number of biteswe received there must be an infestation. I have been back home for fourweeks and the hotel have not sent an apology or contacted us at all. This hotel knew we were bitten before we left and they knew what was inour room, I believe they had an obligation to let us know and never did.For the amount of money you pay to stay you should not be exposed tosuch filth! Beware!
Review 90:Location & Swimming Pool
Review 91:The only minus about our stay was the internet access. Our wifi connection was very bad and kept cutting off.
Review 92:The staff! My check-in staff Geri was super helpfull, even helped cheer up my tired grumpy 6 year old while checking in. Response to requests were swift. Rooms were comfy clean spacious and had plenty of bottled water, coffee, soaps and towels, beds were nice and big and bed linnen heavenly!
Review 93:Rooms need updating. You can tell it's an older hotel. The bathrooms in the room need serious attention. Where do I start. Our bath curtain smelled like urine. The faucet in the bath was loose. The handle on the balcony door broke off on the first day there. The overall decor in the room was not inviting at all. You're basically paying for the convenience of being close to Waikiki Beach. At least that's how we felt. Also, we always felt hot in some areas of the hotel. When walking thru the halls to get to the room. They don't have the A/C going. Our room never had that nice cold feel to it either. I also wished they included eggs and sausage/bacon to their breakfast. It was the same stuff every morning. They did have waffles and omelets, but it costed extra.
Review 94:Location was excellent. Literally steps from the beach. Elevator was efficient and fast. I loved the pool area and The Tiki Grill. There was always live entertainment which I liked. The valet staff was friendly and helpful. I loved our balcony view of Waikiki Beach.
Review 95:There were several negatives including cleanliness and key card access issues. We had multiple issues making our room key work. The breakfast was not worth the hassle. The house staff worked their rears off but they were clearly understaffed and one night our room was not cleaned. The rooms are in desperate need for an upgrade, although the beds are very comfortable. This hotel has promise but is poorly managed.
Review 96:The location was great if you want to stay on Waikiki Beach. There were several wonderful staff members.
Review 97:The pool area needs some plants or something to give it some vibe. Bit pricey
Review 98:Great location, close to beautiful beaches and walking distance to all shops and restaurants . Tiki Bar and Grill has awesome meals next door.
Review 99:Breakfast was a bit weird. Takeaway style but works to fit the amount of people. Food was limited to yogurt, cereal , fruit and loads of sweet baked things
Review 100:Great value for money. Lift system was brilliant so efficient
Review 101:Busy area, so the noise from early morning work crews was unpleasant. Also happen to have protesting group for union wake me up early on Saturday morning. The Hotel room looked a little dated and needed some TLC.
Review 102:Location and Views. Extremely convenient to the beach, but it could get a little loud at night.
Review 103:I would like to thank the lady in the front desk her name was ema. my first couple days wasn't how I pictured it bt ema went beyond that to make my stay great. she got me to my room timely and especially followed through with my request that I wanted privacy even from people trying to contact me, thank you thank you thank you. I would definitely stay there again!!!
Review 104:No sofa or chair in room, one chair only on lanai, no wine glasses available, even on request, no bottle opener available even on request, no cutlery, plates, had to call maintenance on 2 out of 3 days to get wifi going, Daily charge of $23 on top of room rate for wifi and breakfast, CHEAP breakfast, not enough tables or seating for people at breakfast, none under cover at all, don't sit on end of bed as it will tip bed up, toilet sits no more than 12 inches off ground making getting on and off difficult.
Review 105:The view
Review 106:Breakfast service did not meet expectations. Coffee was horrible. No place to sit, although nice to be located near the pool deck. Didn't appreciate all the extra taxes and amenity charges.
Review 107:Thought the hotel was very clean and the room was comfortable. Had a very helpful staff member at check in that made a difference to our stay. Excellent view of the beach from our room.
Review 108:I accidentally left my watch case which had my gold necklace in it.Right after we left called back asked hotel housekeeping if they foundit and they said no of course!!!
Review 109:We didn't like the quality of the breakfast that was available - it was not good. We opted out and found a lovely café just one block away - and it was worth paying for a quality breakfast.
Review 110:everything except the breakfast arrangements
Review 111:The bathrooms were pretty dirty, the lobby smelled, and the morning breakfast was terrible.
Review 112:The location, it was easy enough to get around to the rest of Waikiki.
Review 113:The breakfast. Information indicated breakfast was included with price of room when in fact there was an extra charge to have a normal breakfast not a continental breakfast
Review 114:Location and remodeled room. View of the ocean
Review 115:Hotels costs 200 $/ day and it is really not that much better than a 2 star hotels. They charge you 20 $/ day for amenity fee. For what? It's just a hidden cost in a room price. You can see that hotel is old and threadbare.
Review 116:Room was ok, view awesome (Waikiki Beach).
Review 117:The partial ocean view was disappointing majority of the view was the hotel across the street
Review 118:The location and staff were fabulous , Geri at check in was the best
Review 119:A minor annoyance was that you could hear the toilet flushing from adjacent rooms, especially in the early hours of the morning. (I am a light sleeper). Would have preferred more comfortable chairs in the room.
Review 120:The rooms are a good size and I liked the view from our small balcony. The location is great as you are opposite the protected beach area and the surf beach. The things I didn't like wouldn't stop me coming back.
Review 121:Not having the poolside area available, and the noisiest airconditioningI have ever heard
Review 122:Location...directly opposite the beach with a great view from thebalcony
Review 123:Great staff, helpful, the breakfast was delicious, you can book tours there, good local knowledge, good location. We had a partial ocean view room which had amazing views along Waikiki Beach.
Review 124:I have stayed at this property twice before so I had an idea of what to expect. I have to say that my expectations were exceeded. The refreshed rooms were really nice,.. The upgrade to a nicer room and the seamless great service is what stood out. Mahalo for job well done. I look forward to staying again once the renovations are complete.
Review 125:The whole breakfastaerea was under construction including the pooldeck. A real nice breakfast was impossible. Excact 9 am started the slashhammers. The breakfastsystem is terrible. The airconditioning was loud - relais defect. I changed the room. The next airconditioning was not much better -noisy fan. Expensiv parkingfee and high amenity fee. Both together 50 $ extra per day plus tax !
Review 126:The view to the beach..The helpfull people at the valetparking.Friendly houskeeping.
Review 127:Could not control the thermostat in our room. AC stayed on full blast, had to sleep under extra blankets. Not comfortable to lounge around in because of that.
Review 128:Friendly people, weather was great. Liked being close to the beach.
Review 129:I really enjoyed my stay...staff very helpful, they extended our checkout time for a small fee, location was excellent, directly across from beach, would diffidently stay again!
Review 130:No room service. We arrived late and were hoping for a meal in our room. The room was very costly and yet it didn't deliver more than a mid-level hotel in service. Room was shabby and there was mold in the bathroom.
Review 131:Location and view. Fabulous view.
Review 132:Advertised at $130usd per night - ended up being $200 per night after tax and $23 "amenity fee". No minibar or snacks in room. Water bottles are extra charge and all restaurants / room service closed by our arrival at 11pm. Only their preferred taxis are allowed into the pull thru driveway for pick up / drop off. Even when you have an injured ankle and are struggling to walk. Arrive in anything else and the concierge chases your driver out to drop you at the street. Breakfast over by 9am and boring continental anyway. Eggs etc are extra charge in spite of $23 fee to cover breakfast. Aircon barely kept room at 22C. Double beds too small for comfortable sleep for average couple. Bathroom old, dirty grout, cracked tile. Overall: not horrible, but not at all worth their prices. Stay somewhere else!
Review 133:Across street from beach.
Review 134:- breakfast is a joke, poor selection of sweets and fruit, coffee and tea available, extra charge for eggs or anything else. Everyone flocking to grab fruit and sweets for the beach. - amenities are heavily overcharged and poorly delivered. Movie rental offers scratched up cd's which skipped all the time and we ended up watching netflix movies instead. - Tiki Bar food generic and overpriced. Loud, due to the construction right by the pool.
Review 135:location and view
Review 136:The hotel is a little old, when comparing to the other two places we stayed at, Shorline and Hilton Rainbow tower
Review 137:The room was spacious and clean, our room had a little view of the beach but a nice comfortable bed to sleep on after a long flight. The late night bar just down the bottom has really nice staff and live music which was really good and food/drinks were reasonable. The complementary breakfast was by far the most standout part of our stay here, good variety of food to start your day.
Review 138:It is an old hotel but that is why it is cheaper than many hotels at Waikiki with similar facilities. Breakfast was very basic with just few types of pastries, cereals and fruit - there could be some healthier options offered. Gym equipment needed maintenance eg walking machine with non-functioning programs and screen
Review 139:Great place to stay at quieter end of Waikiki. Staff friendly and helpful especially Glenn at reception. Ask for higher floor to escape noise from street. Lifts very efficient and great for security. Beds very comfortable.
