Reviews for Convento Da Provenca

Review 1:Breakfast was not great and the fact that there is not an on-site restaurant or self-catering facilities

Review 2:Wonderful friendly staff. Location in the peaceful countryside. Swimming pool

Review 3:Had to leave eventually...

Review 4:Tranquil, friendly staff did everything to make us feel at home, beautiful building and very old grounds, space, children very welcome, location, local restaurant was great.

Review 5:The path from the main road to the convento is in very bad shape. Wifi not available in the rooms (wired internet is though). Wifi only in the lounge room;

Review 6:Very friendly, thoughtfull staff; great breakfast,;clean and comfortable rooms; peace and quiet;

Review 7:Nothing!

Review 8:Wonderful staff who couldn't do enough to make our stay at Convento Da Provenca so enjoyable. We were able to enjoy dinner there on two out of three nights and would highly recommend. The grounds and pool are lovely - unfortunately the weather when we were there was not good enough to make the most of them.

Review 9:The staff were helpful and welcoming. It was an interesting building, full of history. Great for a relaxing stay with lots of little spaces to sit in. Wifi in lounge, drinks available anytime.

Review 10:Our 15 year old son did not like this hotel - his 'extra' bed was a fold-up Z-bed which creaked all night. We decided to eat at the hotel rather than drive back into Portalegre and had decided not to book a main meal so chose from the 'light meal' menu. He complained about the lack of choice although my partner and I had a lovely omelette and salad. His other complaints included the poor wi-fi and 'bits' in the pool! Too remote for grumpy teenagers!

Review 11:My partner and I loved this hotel. We loved the remote location, the peace, the spaciousness and being able to have a long cool dip in the pool at the end of a hot day in the car. The staff were all incredibly helpful and polite. The breakfast included amazing home-made preserves and freshly squeezed orange juice. There is a 'honesty' bar in the very large lounge. The hotel is full of interesting artefacts and our room was stunning. We played cards in the lounge after a delicious omelette and strawberries from the garden. This would make a perfect retreat for writers, painters or a yoga course. Staff advised us on parking, shops and sightseeing. A really gem.

Review 12:It's a beautiful location but a bit hard to find.

Review 13:Staff were extremely friendly and efficient.

Review 14:Huge rooms, great breakfast, nice swimming pool, beautiful garden around the hotel.

Review 15:Old fashioned and smelly bath room

Review 16:Friendly staff, swimming pool and garden

Review 17:The big lovely room and bathroom, breakfirst, the staff, Good bed

Review 18:The hotel is located in a wonderful location. The scenery was charming.

Review 19:Such a relaxing place, great breakfast

Review 20:Nothinglu

Review 21:The hotel is very comfortable and it helped us to unwind. Being so central it was very easy to tour the area

Review 22:Confort

Review 23:WiFi

Review 24:Excelente!

Review 25:Amazing...that's all...perfect place for relaxing

Review 26:Evening meal was superb with greta wine and very reasonable price. Staff were delightful and hotel location and setting was pleasant. We will return shortly!

Review 27:The approach from the turnoff from Portalegre is slightly perilous; we had to drive very slowly to avoid damage to the rental. Also, the signposting from the main road is hard to see; we only found the turnoff because we had satnav. But in no way does this take away from the hotel itself!

Review 28:We had a lovely welcome and tour of the house by the receptionist (who spoke excellent English and French). This hotel comes across like an extravagant private home filled to the rafters with unusual objects of historical interest (armour, traditional costumes, African masks etc.) The surroundings are gorgeous (both the grounds, which include the ruins of the convent the hotel once was, and the surrounding natural park). The pool was lovely and one could have walked for an hour through the olive grove around the property. Breakfast was perfect. Our only regret was that we had only planned to stay one night!

Review 29:No restaurant on site, but that wasn't really a problem as there are lots of places to choose from in the surrounding area and the staff were able to recommend some good ones. You would need a car to enjoy this location though.

Review 30:The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. The location is beautiful, the rooms are very large, comfortable and clean. There were some nice little touches such as some beautiful biscuits in our room on the day of arrival and some Port and chocolates on our last night. The breakfast was good, all the produce was fresh and you could make your own freshly squeezed orange juice too. The pool area is well laid out with sun loungers and plenty of umbrellas. Beach towels are also provided. A great place to stay.

Review 31:the room was very clean and everything was provided for, we asked for a meal to be provided and was excellent. access is up an unmade track but once on site location very picturesque.

Review 32:We arrived late to find that no evening meal was available unlessordered that morning. This was not clear on the website which referredto evening meals being available. The only restaurant nearby (on aheavily trafficked road where both walking and parking was difficult)was closed and we ended up having to travel into Portalegre. This was agreat disappointment.

Review 33:The convent itself was beautiful, furnished in a traditional style andwith a swimming pool. Rooms were comfortable and a good breakfast wasavailable.

Review 34:On arrival (at noon) we asked if they had meals, and were told that they“could fix us something” if told in advance. Since we both got thefeeling that they didn´t really serve dinner, and we didn´t want to be anuisance, we decided to eat out. Later that evening when we got backfrom a rather boring dinner in a restaurant in Portalegre, we foundanother couple having what looked like a fantastically romantic meal onthe terrace and got a bit disappointed that we missed out.

Review 35:Beautiful hotel in a nice and tranquil countryside location. We stayedin a large but rather minimalistic room with a wonderful view. Very nicebathroom. Staff was very friendly. Delightful pool area. A place whereyou want stay a little longer.

Review 36:charming and informative reception; spacious rooms; quiet

Review 37:The private road wich leads to the hotel is unpaved and in bad shape.

Review 38:All perfect.

Review 39:need to improve the gardens in the car park which are all over grown. Honesty bar prices are too expensive.

Review 40:Staff. Breakfast. Bedroom.

Review 41:We had to leave the premises for a dinner...

Review 42:Hotel staff kindness was quite appreciated

Review 43:Quiet place, a place for good night sleeps and lacy days. But also nice surrondings for walkings.

Review 44:Staff very helpful, nice location, good food.Room's clean and a nice little gift every day of the stay Would go back there again

Review 45:Location, ambience, staff
