Reviews for Hill City Inn

Review 1:No bad experience, facility is just old and needs total updated renovation with current amenities and customer relationships

Review 2:location to my ultimate destination

Review 3:The Inn Is off of the main road with not very good signs showing entrance. The staff doesn't communicate with each other in terms of the difference between pets and service animals. There is an obvious difference in customer service ability especially when it comes to the brothers. They need to study on customer service and experience as I will not be staying there again until they can show improvements.

Review 4:The fact that they keep the parking lot well lit at night.

Review 5:It was hard to find - they are in the process of changing the name, so the name on the building was Hill City Inn and I was looking for Travel Inn

Review 6:Quiet, clean room

Review 7:Loud music from apparently relatives that live there while they were washing their car. Very rude and disturbing for about an hour. They are a pet friendly hotel that charged $15 per animal however no place to walk them. Breakfast was a joke. Had instant oatmeal with no hot water and over ripe bananas, left hungry. Remote for tv not working correctly.

Review 8:Room was clean

Review 9:Bed was hard as a rock! If you have back issues you may have to sleep in the chair with your feet in the office chair like I did. Husband was looking forward to the "hot" breakfast only to find rehydrated egg patty that was heated.

Review 10:Room was very clean, and did not smell stale. The staff was very friendly.

Review 11:Typical 'has-seen-better-days' roadside motel.

Review 12:Motel is a bit run down, but clean. I spent three days previously at the Holiday Inn just down the road and honestly, apart from fresh paint and newer carpets the amenities were more or less identical for about a third of the price. Very friendly staff as well.

Review 13:Nonsmoking room smelled like a smoking room but good value.

Review 14:Very accommodating when Lockn Festival didn't open for another day, we got to stay here two days.

Review 15:Looking for the hotel is impossible since the name on the outside of the hotel was different than the business cards and the website! We checked in (late night) and when going to the room I smelled the smoke before I got into the room. I opened the door and the room was dirty the beds were not made and there was wet towels on the floor! The room was not clean! Or someone else's room? I requested a new non smoking room and the room we got still smelled like smoke but was somewhat cleaner. At around 1 in the morning I was woken up to someone trying to get into our room first by putting in a key and trying, then by jiggling the handle quite a few times, then lastly by (what sounded like) throwing themselves against the door? All I can say it was a scarey expierence all around and I would recommend no one stay here because your safety and cleanliness is not worth saving a few dollars!!!

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Old facility and furniture. Sign on building with previous hotel name is very confusing. Needs to come down.

Review 18:Staff went out of his way to correct a mistake on type of room we booked. Facility was clean

Review 19:The main thing that was disconcerting for us was the terrible smell of our hotel room. The facilities were somewhat old, and our bathroom door would not shut properly. The outward appearance of the hotel is somewhat run down, but they did their best in keeping it clean and tidy.

Review 20:I thought the hotel cleaners did a good job in cleaning up / keeping things clean. The staff was friendly. The hotel was conveniently located off of the highway.

Review 21:Room was old, dingy, and falling apart. Shower was hot then cold then hot...flat sheets on the mattress led to exposed (and extremely uncomfortable) mattress within a couple of hours.

Review 22:Location was good. Mattress was comfortable.

Review 23:The property is old and not well maintained. Stairways were dirty with peeling paint everywhere. Wallpaper was peeling in the room and the carpet and upholstery was dirty and stained. We had a non-smoking room that still had a stale cigarette odor to it.

Review 24:Sheets and towels were clean. The bed was comfortable.

Review 25:The King size bed corner room did not have WiFi.

Review 26:Two rooms close together for 5 people. Breakfast was good; continental with cereal available. Affordable and close to the college.

Review 27:Saw roaches in the bathroom, fridge was missing shelves, wash clothes wer stained. Definitely not worth what I paid.

Review 28:Location. The bed was comfortable.

Review 29:when we got our room, it was suppose to be non smoking. we smelled smoke residue in the room. i had a child with me younger than 1 years old and she was itching to crawl on the carpet, she wasnt able to do so cause the floor was very uncleaned. i walked without shoes in the room and my feet were so dirty just walking on it.

Review 30:the convenience is that its right off the highway

Review 31:There is really not a great place to walk your pet for potty purposes, but the more expensive place did not look better for this.

Review 32:The location was the most important aspect when looking for a place. This is a very basic, old hotel, but I was well pleased with the cleanliness and the price for what it is. If you do not expect fluff and super comfort but need a decent place to stay in a desirable location, you should be satisfied. I almost paid double for a nicer place with the same great location but glad I did not.

Review 33:The bed was uncomfortable and could have been a little cleaner.

Review 34:I feel at one point this was a very nice place, but it's older and need of updates or remodeled, would I stay again, probably.

Review 35:Stayed before thus time was horrible, no bath towels, no extra toilet paper and a smoking room when it was supposed to be non smoking!guess the didn't like that I check the room rate before and they said one price and stated they didn't have the rate shown then I made the reservation online so they gave me the nastiest room they had. They just lost my business and I stay in the area 5-6 times a month.

Review 36:A bit shabby and could use some updating. The shower had some broken tile and was missing the soap dish, which had broken off.

Review 37:Bed was very comfortable, and it was walking distance from shops and restaurants. Shower had good pressure and hot water. AC very cold and functioning.

Review 38:The room was in need of new carpeting. Had a slight musty smell. The staff were not all fluent in American English, but hand gestures helped bridge the gap.

Review 39:The price was reasonable for the quality of the room. It's location was good, easy to locate.

Review 40:There was a used washcloth in tub, the water hot/cold faucets were backward, the room is very outdated, it didn't look like it was vacuumed since previous guest

Review 41:The beds and pillows were horrible! My husband and I each dealt with back pain by morning.

Review 42:The location was excellent! The owners were very personable and helpful.

Review 43:Bed was a bit uncomfortable, but I'm use to my Sleep Number bed, so any other bed is usually uncomfortable to me.

Review 44:Room was clean. Free wifi worked well. Nice area. Staff courteous and helpful. Had everything we needed for a weekend get away. Didn't spend much time in the room since we were down for the anniversary of Appomattox, but time spent in room was good.

Review 45:No WiFi instructions in the room. Only two stairways to second floor (that I found)

Review 46:Comfortable bed. Flat panel TV. A/C works well and is easy to set up the way you like it.

Review 47:The room was dusty and dirty, the linens were discolored and cheap, the soap looked like it had already been used. The toilet and tub were soiled. Loose wires lying on the floor in several places.

Review 48:Nothing, it was the only room left in Lynchburg to stay for a funeral.

Review 49:The room had many visible signs of rework and reconfiguration. Peeling wall paper. Broken bathroom tiles. Grubby, dirty corners. Kluged appliance attachments.

Review 50:On the first nite,Microwave wasn't working, they replaced it with an older one. I didn't notice tillthe next evening on my way that the room door lock wasn't working, I was upset because there was no way to verify if it was broken prior to or during my stay. After much discussion with the owner, i was given another room. It was a major inconvenience since I had to move all of my things from one room to the other which made me late to my function...however owners relative did help me and the owner apologized over the incident upon check out..facilities are mediocre.its a family run business. You get what you pay for.

Review 51:Quiet location...close to highway

Review 52:Shower was clean but the water temp kept fluctuating although it never got scalding hot.

Review 53:Staff was very pleasant, room was clean and the bed was comfortable enough.

Review 54:This property has roaches!! I came home directly form the hotel after a 2 night stay & when I opened my luggage & killed 3 roaches that came out!!! Do not stay at this hotel, do Knott be fooled by the low price - you get what you pay for!!! Breakfast cereal was stale & did not have hot chocolate or a selection of tea.

Review 55:The staff was nice.

Review 56:Facilities: cracked paneling and counter around sink. Dried, cracked, chipped caulking. Dingy room. Couldn't tell if the floor had been cleaned. The cold of the winter probably kept the bugs at bay. Breakfast: "fresh" fruit bruised from several days ago; no protein or nutrition; carbs carbs carbs

Review 57:The room could have been cleaner. I had to move the bed to get to the outlet and the dirt behind it was a little embarrassing! The bathroom needs updating. The shower kept going from hot to cold and the faucet handle for the hot water was VERY hot to the touch after taking a shower.

Review 58:Hotel was in a great location - a 7 minute drive from Liberty University. The bed was extremely comfortable! The breakfast provided was wonderful! Cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels & cream cheese, orange juice, danish! The kids were well fed!

Review 59:Our room was old and dated. The lighted mirror was dim and I could not see to do my makeup. The remote control batteries were dead and the room was in desperate need of painting. The bathroom door knob was broken, the curtains were ripped, and the carpet had burn marks although out room was non smoking. There was a huge spiders nest full of eggs above the doorway inside the room. The entire property was run down, dark, dingy, and in need of many upgrades.

Review 60:I liked the fact that we had an adjoining room next to my parents and the shower had plenty of water pressure. The sheets and towels appeared clean.

Review 61:Place a bit run down, but certainly served the pupose. They didn't refill coffee condiments very well and didn't have much of a choice of what to use in your coffee.

Review 62:Location for our purposes this trip were good.

Review 63:Pushy desk staffed almost demanded that we leave a review, even giving us the names of several websites to put our reviews on. Not enough towels in the room. Channels on the TV that were supposed to be available were not available.

Review 64:Quick check-in

Review 65:The room we were in had the size sink and mirror you'd find in an RV, tucked into a small space! Not great for three females trying to get ready in the morning!

Review 66:I liked the quiet location. It was comfortable and i was able to sleep well.

Review 67:The room had a strong odor from being closed for an extended period it seemed. WiFi password had to be requested.

Review 68:Booked with the facility bc bringing my dog along was an option here while most other locations had strict no pets policies. Check in was very simple & the receptionist was very polite & efficient. She even took a moment to show us where our room was located. Our room was clean & orderly. When asked about extra towels the staff immediately made them available. Beds were comfortable & for someone w nerve damage to their spine that's a huge plus.

Review 69:Great location to access the expressway to anywhere in little time. Available room as we wanted, as booked only a week before arriving. Very quiet, and impressed of the conditions for the price. Clean room and bath. Water was hot and shower pressure is better than at home. Bed was very comfortable. Could not have stayed at a better place. Will definitely book there again.

Review 70:I came in late on homecoming night and they had a few spots open. The staff took care of me and the room, though a bit dated, was comfortable and clean.

Review 71:I didn't like our roach and stink bug-infested room, our exploding microwave, or the quality of customer service received. The stink bugs showed up almost immediately, and we found many of their carcasses scattered around the room. Our attempt to pop popcorn was met with sparks flying inside the microwave and from the electrical outlet after having been turned on for about 1 minute. We returned to our room after dinner only to find a roach crawling on the pillow we had previously been using, so at this point we decided to abandon ship. The customer service was less than desirable, as the owner refused to give me a refund, but was quick to lay on the attitude. She offered another room for us to stay in, but we politely declined. We stayed on a Friday night, and the owners rented out the large room beneath the office and threw a party, which we didn't really mind but some may. My opinion of this place is very poor, but some claim to find it an acceptable hotel, so perhaps we just caught it on a bad day.

Review 72:Overall value for the dollar. The Travel Inn is a decent deal if you are only looking for the basics, plus it has a pool.

Review 73:The location has an overall dinginess to it that I think many people wouldn't like. I think it comes from them not cleaning things like doors, which appear grungy after time. Also, the breakfast wasn't very good.

Review 74:They allowed pets for only a slight fee. The location was pretty centralized. The shower had great pressure with hot water.

Review 75:My sister and I only needed a place to stay for 2 nights to visit college friends. For the money, it was good and all we needed. The staff was friendly, and we were very comfortable.

Review 76:There was only one ice machine and it was broke, the carpets had stains, the blanket had burn marks in the non-smoking room. There was a drunk running around trying to get into rooms and the police were not called even after something was said to the lady at the desk.

Review 77:I liked the price and that it was so close to the college and interstate. It was also great that they allowed per dog.

Review 78:I had a nonsmoking room, however there were several cigarette burns in the comforters. The legs of the beds were covered in thick dust. The dink area was clean, although there was a lot of grime on the coffee pot. The shower/toilet area seemed clean enough. It was strange how the tile was partially covered with pealing wallpaper. The balcony area was being used to store old carpet. It was obvious it's been there for quit some time. This motel is in desperate of some TLC. If I had arrived during daylight hours & had an alternative place to stay I would have chosen the latter. I almost forgot, the one bed had grass in it. They obviously didn't change the sheets!

Review 79:The location was good. They were ok with a late check in.

Review 80:It is an old place but it also smelled old.....they could use a good scrubbing down. Bring slippers and don't let your little ones play on the floor.

Review 81:It was quiet...had a pool.. and close to my location

Review 82:My room smelled like urine. You could also smell cigarettes even though it was a non smoking room. The floors were dirty.

Review 83:Location was easy to get to Liberty University. The front desk staff was nice.

Review 84:Hotel lobby was pretty cluttered and nasty and the continental breakfast was extremely minimal.

Review 85:Room was clean and had all the amenities that were advertised. WiFi worked well with no issues.

Review 86:The location was plagued by sketchy individuals. The staff was extremely rude and the rooms were dirty. There were dead bugs inside of our ice bucket and possible blood stains on the white towels they provided us. When I went to complain and ask for new towels, the attendant at the front desk argued that there are only two towels per room and that it was not blood on their towels. When I brought the towels to her she then switched her story and said they do not wash their laundry in house. All in all, this was a terrible experience. If we didn't only need a room for one night we would have definitely found a room elsewhere. Oh and not to mention, i'm pretty sure the location is used to house a prostitution ring in a number of their rooms. Definitely avoid staying here if possible. There's a Holiday Inn Express just 5 miles down the road. A little more pricey, but worth it.

Review 87:Nothing.

Review 88:room was a bit dated

Review 89:Bed was very comfortable

Review 90:We only stayed one night. The staff was very nice and the room was clean.

Review 91:Hot water never really got hot. Poor reception quality cable TV. Expensive soda machine. No junk food vending.

Review 92:Friendly staff, decent location

Review 93:Weak breakfast

Review 94:Bistro down the street

Review 95:WiFi was terrible - kept losing signal every time I moved. No hot water for my shower on Sun. morning.

Review 96:Nice big room with a big, comfy bed.

Review 97:It was close to hospital that my daughter was in having her baby girl.

Review 98:Wireless not operational in our area of facility

Review 99:Location, price and friendly staff

Review 100:Next best place to home....

Review 101:Old and run down facility. Very much needs to be upgraded. It took forever to get checked in.

Review 102:Friendly staff.

Review 103:Old refrigerator and microwave. Bed was lumpy

Review 104:Close to family

Review 105:Cheap, clean and close to Arrington.

Review 106:very adiquate but older property with minor facelift... t The name is changed as well.

Review 107:breakfast wasn't the best.., cereal n bananas n a tasty-cake. No hot food (i.e. eggs, sausage)

Review 108:the location

Review 109:room smelled bad "free wifi" nonexistent

Review 110:friendly staff

Review 111:everything. Very grubby. I felt like I was in a slum. The clientele made me uncomfortable.

Review 112:nothing

Review 113:Room had a smell, bugs were in the room. Room was not clean, carpet dirty

Review 114:Host was polite

Review 115:Roaches a few

Review 116:Quite

Review 117:Everything

Review 118:Would have rather stayed on first floor instead of second level.

Review 119:Location was great and the pool was refreshing.

Review 120:My tablet rated the WiFi "unsecured", so I didn't use it.

Review 121:Short walk from downtown, pool and easy car parking

Review 122:NOISY NEIGHBORS

Review 123:FREINDLY STAFF CLEAN ROOM GOOD LOCATION

Review 124:I had no bad experience

Review 125:Very friendly place

Review 126:I was stereo typed because of the color of my skin.

Review 127:Pictures of the property were taken when it was much newer.

Review 128:Room was clean and the air conditioner worked fine.

Review 129:I have to say that the couple who owns this property go above and beyond to make their guests satisfied.

Review 130:just wasn't worth that much money

Review 131:Location

Review 132:We picked this for the location to downtown, so it was perfect for our needs. Nothing fancy but good value.
