Reviews for Morgan State House
Review 1:Loved the suite. Nicely furnished, kitchenette w/keurig, dishes and pans. Super clean and cozy. Lost my keys at 2am and there was someone there to help! Not always the case with B&Bs. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Will stay again. The walk to the restaurant and theatre was not bad at all, maybe 15 minutes tops. About the same price as the larger hotels closer to the theatre but soooo much nicer.
Review 2:There isn't much not to like. The 4 inch foam mattress topper was too soft for me (personal preference). The odor from cleaning supplies is a bit overpowering.
Review 3:The hotel is situated across a park and within walking distance from many eateries and historic buildings. The furnishings are elegant in a low key way. The staff is attentive when needed, the breakfast is very generous. The wifi and vast cable channel choices are great. The room temp. is adjustable to your needs. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 4:Pillows were so thin....also I did not realize that the suite we were in was in a whole other building...short walk....
Review 5:Food in the morning was good...mattress was nice...staff was welcoming....fire in the fireplace during breakfast
Review 6:Bathroom was very clean, but very small. We didn't mind the stairs, but we were on the fourth floor and that climb wouldn't suit everyone.
Review 7:Very friendly and accomodating staff. Excellent location. Safe parking.
Review 8:The wifi didn't really work.
Review 9:Staff was so friendly and curtious. It was in a great location for the court house I was going to. I could actually walk there. The room was huge and clean.
Review 10:The location was excellent with Washington Park across the street. Staff was very friendly and helpful. And we lucked out with finding a parking spot right in front of the Inn! Will definitely stay here again.
Review 11:I didn't really mind, but my room was rather dim (only lamps, no overhead lighting in the main part of the room).
Review 12:Great location within walking distance to medical center & downtown, with a nice park across the street. My room was upgraded to a king suite in the main building upon arrival, and the room was HUGE, comfortable, and quiet. The building has incredible character and is well-furnished with great attention to detail. I loved the historic feel combined with modern amenities and quality fixtures.
Review 13:the personnel of Morgan State House are friendly, cheerful, funny and helpful. Thank you so much for their hospitality. I recommend to everyone who will be on business trip in Albany.
Review 14:I had to check in at 9pm, and no one was there when I arrived. Had to wait a bit for someone to let me in. Very minor inconvenience, and more than offset by other facets of this place.
Review 15:Great hotel, boutique, comfortable, hospitable, glad to have found it.
Review 16:"Family hotel. It was my first time. Wery bad expierence !! My room was on 4-th floor, no elevator!!! . Nobody !!! help with my several bags. Very small window (3xiPad size!!) in the room. A bathroom size is terrible small. Very old equipment!! Terrible breakfest. Finally I paid 200$!!!
Review 17:I faund no any advantage!
Review 18:When experiencing the lush bed, we wanted the linens to be a little softer. The towels and robe were a little scratchy and bothersome. We think that the room would have also benefited from a full length or larger mirror.
Review 19:We loved the location of the Morgan State House and the history that has been so carefully preserved. The owner and staff does such a great job of making everyone feel welcome and truly at home. The bed was so comfortable and we loved the views from the windows!
Review 20:I did not have a bad experience but I think there should have been blackout shades in the room.
Review 21:The ambiance and location was nice and the breakfast that was set out in the morning was lovely...fresh fruit, baked goods and a choice of cereals.
Review 22:No elevator, 4 floors of stairs, we had room on top floor .
Review 23:Staff great ; breakfast very nice, house beautiful ; parking close and a bargain ( and necessary ) .
Review 24:We were looking for a quaint place but with a lot of privacy (sometimes you don't get that with B&B's). We stayed in the Annex and there was a ton of privacy! It was a great room, plenty of space and lovely staff!
Review 25:Parking situation could be inconvenient and costly. The parking lot is alocked lot and is $10/day. The on-street parking is 2 hour max from8am until 4pm. We were fine as we arrived after 4pm and left before10am. But it would be inconvenient for longer stays.
Review 26:Everything! Innkeeper, John was welcoming, efficient and informative.Beautiful architecture. Tasty and numerous breakfast options. Verycomfortable bed. Lovely tree-lined street in the Washington Park area.Lots to do and good eateries in walking distance.
Review 27:Did not like that check in was in one building, our room was in another building and secure parking was a block away! Awkward when moving luggage!
Review 28:Room was clean and bed comfortable
Review 29:Our only complaint was some gas seeping from the cooktop into the room, which caused some unpleasant irritation to our eyes and throats that woke us after midnight with an unpleasant sensation.!it was our impression when we reported the issue to Jan at breakfast that she had immediately attended to the issue with her obvious efficiency and that this problem would not be recurring for any future guests.
Review 30:The mansion building is charming and elegant, and the annex building where we stayed also had some charming architectural elements and was quiet and comfortable.
Review 31:Room was a bit musty smelling...bed was ok...seemed possibly like an older mattress with a memory foam topper...pillows were feather but the unfortunate kind with sharp ends that kept sticking into my face
Review 32:The location was wonderful The house itself was lovely Garden in back was very nice to sit and relax We arrived just after 8 when house is unstaffed and had to call for someone to come let us in He was right there and very friendly and helpful
Review 33:Not single thing, we enjoyed everything!
Review 34:Thank you, it was truly enjoyable home away from home. If you need a trip away from New York City, this is the place for you.
Review 35:The shower head needed to be replaced.
Review 36:We stayed in the annex which was central to the quaint area's cafes, park and shops. Our room was inviting, clean and comfortable. The inclusive breakfast was abundant and met every need. Highly recommend.
Review 37:The trip in from the highway was very bad- through terrible neihghborhoods. Very scary. My husband was afraid I booked something very bad! Not the case of course.
Review 38:Did not like the weather, it was cooler than anticipated and thus did not allow us to enjoy the beautiful garden as much as we wanted, of course it was not the staff's fault, they do a beautiful job maintaining the beautiful garden
Review 39:Enjoyed the friendly welcome from the staff, the history of the establishment, the beautiful gardens
Review 40:Breakfast was disappointing. Drove round the block numerous times to be told parking was available on site for $10! Not sure I would like to venture too far from the hotel after dark.
Review 41:Room was dark, small and dismal. Carpeting old and needed replacing, looked dirty, but room was basically clean. Furniture old and needed replacing. Not what we expected, it is an apartment building that rents out rooms by the night. Check in was a hassle had to call someone to let you in. Couldn't get our credit cards to work.
Review 42:Washington Park
Review 43:It was strange. The front door is always locked. There is no "front desk." Meet the proprietor in the kitchen to register and pay your bill.
Review 44:It was quaint. It was an old, relatively well maintained mansion. It was very much unlike a hotel. It is conveniently located in the center of the city with numerous nice restaurants in the area.
Review 45:It's a bit of a hike up the four flights of stairs and it seemed like it was far from the town centre but I think that was more the freezing weather.
Review 46:Really enjoyed the room facilities nice bed and bathtub. Staff were really friendly and helpful. I would stay again.
Review 47:We both felt that the mattress needed to be replaced and could not compare to our recent experiences in other hotels. we believe that construction was going on in the room above us during late nighttime hours (until about 1 a.m.)
Review 48:The Morgan, excellently located close to points of interest, provided a very comfortable room, a well-stocked kitchen, and beautiful common areas. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about attractions in Albany.
Review 49:The annex rooms lack the charm that you expect from a bed and breakfast and the breakfast was not a cooked breakfast, pretty much things you would pick up at a supermarket. The annex rooms are mixed in among small, full time apartments.
Review 50:The main house is lovely and the staff were helpful and polite, everything was clean. Stay in the main house if you can!
Review 51:The internet did not work. I called in the afternoon, the person told me it will be taken care of in 15 minutes. After dinner I returned to the hotel. I had business to attend to, emails to be answered and material to read online. There was no wifi connection! I called the same person I called before - no reply. I tried to dial 0 as it appears on the telephone - it didn't work. I was troubled and annoyed all night so that I could not accomplish work I had to prepare for the morning. I'm really disappointed and angry.
Review 52:The room, the bed the breakfast.
Review 53:Not a thing.
Review 54:The Main House was booked, so we stayed at the high-rise annex. It was terrific. We had a gorgeous room on the 9th floor. No view, but very quiet, peaceful, spacious, and comfy. Bed was great, furnishings very nice, modern bathroom and immaculate throughout. Takes some time for the hot water to get up there, so be patient. It does arrive! John, who greeted us at reception, was very helpful and guided us to Justin's for dinner. Modest menu, but every dish turned out to be delicious. Many restaurants within 2 blocks. Walk to Empire Plaza. Great place to stay!
Review 55:Don't be put off by the approach to the hotel. A gem awaits. Nothing other than that
Review 56:Felt like a stately home in a city location. Breakfast was superb and the staff were really 'awesome' The room facilities were extremely good. Good parking and a lovely garden to sit in.
Review 57:I think it would be better if you are staying at the main house, but we were put next door and there was a lot of noise from the people above us which went on until 1am.
Review 58:The staff was really friendly and helpful and it was nice to have access to the kitchen and goodies like cookies and tea.
Review 59:Nothing really.
Review 60:In town on business and needed an affordable place within walking distance of Empire Plaza (10-15 minutes). Stayed in the annex. Clean and affordable ($135/night).
Review 61:Honestly, not a thing.
Review 62:The staff was courteous and extremely helpful when we experienced car trouble. The owner showed up while we were dealing with the two truck on the street in front and was wonderful in his assistance. The history of the building was fascinating. Great location with everything we were interested in within easy walking distance.
Review 63:The small old-fashioned shower/bath were was a bit of a tight squeeze.
Review 64:We loved staying in this beautiful house and especially loved mornings and afternoons sitting out on the back porch with a book and cup of tea. Fabulous location - within walking distance of the city centre, major tourist attractions and just across the road from Washington Park.
Review 65:Bed was way too soft for my liking - pure personal preference though - it was an excellent quality / new bed set!
Review 66:location ambience staff old world charm small / comfortable breakfast
Review 67:I'll need to bring my own pillow next time:) feather pillows are too smushy:)
Review 68:The staff is excellent and friendly. The home is warm and welcoming and the back garden is so inviting....can't wait for another trip to Albany!
Review 69:Nothing!
Review 70:Beautiful, unique property in a great Albany neighborhood--a real find in a city that does not have many good hotel options. Owner has created a informal, welcoming vibe and ensures guests feel comfortable.
Review 71:Pack lightly. If your in the house the stairs are steep. Not a complaint. Just be aware.
Review 72:Lovely house. Felt like home. Lovely home. Had a nice stay. Loads of lovely restaurants in a 5 min walk.
Review 73:Bed was not very comfortable, very noisy at the back of the hotel in the morning, trash collection at 6AM example.
Review 74:Building was extremely pretty, staff excellent, casual breakfast.
Review 75:It was a great getaway for us. There are great restaurants in the area, nice off street parking, staff was very helpful and attentive, the rooms were reasonably priced for what you get. Close to a lot of interesting sights. We would go back there in a minute.
Review 76:The Morgan State House is a great place to stay. The staff is great, the rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable, and the location is pleasant and close to many restaurants and stores. When I stay in Albany from now on, I plan to stay at the Morgan State House.
Review 77:Chuck and Janine were very helpful hospital and friendly . They went out of their way to find gluten free bread for our son with celiac disease. I would define tilt stay again.
Review 78:Lack of street parking on weekdays and paid parking was a block or so away Limited breakfast choices (have had better at Hampton Inns)
Review 79:Location Ambiance Furnishings Historical info about the house Spaciousness Felt like I was visiting a friend's house; there was nothing on the outside to indicate that it wasn't one of the residences (it is in a residential neighborhood)
Review 80:I don't like that people are finding out about this place and now we have to book earlier.
Review 81:This is the third time we've stayed here for Albany concerts and we love it. Very pleasant environment and staff.
Review 82:It was a great location and the rooms were comfortable and charming. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay a good one. I would highly recommend it.
Review 83:Third floor and no elevator was difficult on my knees.
Review 84:John and Jeanane where great host. We reserved our stay not realizing that we were staying at a Bed and Breakfast. We now believe our stay on Albany was a greater experience then if we had stayed at a chain hotel. The home was beautiful, the room was very comfortable, and the breakfast was great.
Review 85:I found the mattress too soft and the area was questionable.
Review 86:I loved the main house, the staff, the garden, the "make yourself at home" attitude and the proximity to my event.
Review 87:Water pressure and temperature- it's an old building.
Review 88:The beautiful facility and great location. Nice food offerings included.

Review 100:Close to the city for ease of access to events and restaurants
Review 101:Very helpful staff who really went the extra mile for us
Review 102:The location was wonderful and the building amazing.
Review 103:The only criticism is that there was a refrigerator issue and some dried food on the stove (hadn't been cleaned)
