Located right next to the entrance to the ancient Glanzenberg Mine, the Penzión Kachelman occupies a 17th-century building in the centre of Banská Štiavnica. It features a restaurant and a spa area.
The rooms have solid wooden beds and furniture in historic style and come with a private bathroom and cable TV. Free Wi-fi is available in the public areas of the guest house.
Typical Slovak specialities, barbecued food, pizzas and other dishes of the international cuisine can be enjoyed in the restaurant. There is an open fireplace inside and a terrace next to a pond.
After a day of exploring the UNESCO-protected city, you can relax in the spa area including a hot tub and a sauna. Massages are available on request.

Review 1：They gave us a room with a bed on the ground. Unfortunately it was not very comfortable. The floor around the bed was old. The bathrooms were just two ordinary plastic cups. Breakfast was very simple.

Review 3：Our room ( in the old part of the hotel) was very poor indeed ... it was cramped , and strangely designed ... a long corridor (separated bedroom & bathroom) was the only place we could put our large suitcase , However we could hardly see what was inside the case because of the poor lighting. No mirror in the room , and only an A4 size mirror in the bathroom. The description refers to satellite TV ...this was not available, The internet hardly worked . I always look at the reviews before booking my hotels , and I wonder whether there are better rooms ( I believe there may be, in the newer part of the hotel ) because the rate in Booking.com is 8.5 !!!

Review 5：All staff both in reception and in the restaurant were particularly welcoming and helpful. As we only speak english, it was easy for us as many staff spoke excellent english. Breakfast was extra cost, but well worth this and the evening meals were hearty. The place was very clean and it was a very pleasant two day base from which to explore the town.

Review 6：We had room 21 and it's a bit awkward with a long corridor and a small sleeping room in which it was difficult to go around the bed. Wifi didn't work in the room, we had to go in the corridor to use internet. Breakfast was disappointing, especially the quality of the saussages and ham.

Review 12：The fight with the waitress in the restaurant at lunchtime when she refused to give me the 10% discount I was entitled to with the regional card presented to us on arrival by reception, as she said I did not show it to her before the meal. I put it on the table in full view as we sat down and if she could not see it then she must be blind! I finally had to get reception to sort the matter out as she would not budge, and I was most certainly not going to lose the 10% discount I was entitled to. Room a bit small and cramped, mainly due to all our luggage for three months touring.

Review 13：Excellent location, super helpful staff. We drove and walked about a lot and saw most of the area around there. Beautiful scenic country and very interesting mining history.

Review 14：WIFI in the room was too weak. Door of the room is not good - you hear every noice from the corridor. Breakfast could have been better. Receptionist lady should speak foreign languages and should be able to manage a payment within max 5 minutes.

Review 18：The room configuration of downstairs and upstairs was rather inconvenient. But the biggest problem was that water came out very little from the bathroom faucet, which was, I assume, purposely set because the sink did not drain very well.

Review 21：do not accomodate during weekends and Fridays, they organize weddings, the restaurant is closed and the noise goes on until deep night, no heating when cold (16C) in August or September, dont offer any heaters, so take something to warm you up

Review 23：Parking was poor and locals were given priority. We were told to leave at 10 am and the local people were told they could stay later. Wi fi does not work in the rooms and the beds in the rooms look like graves

Review 25：In one part of the hotel there was a strange not very pleasant smell. We were two couples, in our part of the hotel the smell was not present and everything was perfect, I only noticed that smell when I went to "visit" the other couple in their part of the hotel. They charged extra for the sauna (but then they only had it turned on for us, but it could be cheaper anyway).

Review 26：We enjoyed the Finish sauna and the jacuzzi even if this "wellness" area is really small but certainly better than nothing. It was so "private" as we were the only guests interested, so had it only for us. The food in the restaurant was very good too.

Review 29：Wi-Fi fluctuates excessively from good to negligible and then completely unavailable before coming back on again, and this keeps on happening. That was the only minor quibble about the place.

Review 30：Everything! It was fabulous and excellent value for money. The breakfast choice and buffet was superb. The location right in the middle of the old city could not have been better. Meals in the restaurant good and reasonably priced. Staff absolutely wonderful!.

Review 67：What a great place to stop on the way through Slovakia. The town is a good size after the big cities. Enough to see and do for a few hours or more. The Pension was very welcoming. Great value with off street parking. The only thing is that the restaurant food could have been a bit better, but not an issue.

Review 73：Guest-house Kachelman is furnished in rustic style, with older furniture. However bathrooms are modern :) There is free wifi and parking for guests. Breakfast was continental. Banska stiavnica is beautifull city with longterm mining history, so there are many places where to go. Who loves coffee and home made cakes should go to Coffee Gavalier, delicious offer you can find also in Divna pani. Both are located directly in the city center.

Review 74：It was too cold in the room as we stayed in the beginning of autumn and heating was not on yet. We had to ask for an electric heater at the reception. Also the cups at breakfast had chipped off edges from where you drink.
