Reviews for The Edgewater
Review 1:Who knew that the restaurant in a hotel that was practically empty would be totally booked on Christmas night? I know now what a silly question. Even though there were seats in the bar, where we ate, the bartenders were slammed with all the restaurant customers. Still, we will be back.
Review 2:Being Christmas night, they were practically giving away the rooms ($150, including fees and taxes) in this newly renovated lakeshore hotel. The rooms were great.
Review 3:The only bad experience was that they were out of ketchup!
Review 4:We loved the relaxation pool! The bar on the main floor was lovely, and they had excellent cocktails. The location was perfect for walking to the Capitol and to State Street.
Review 5:the property has two adjoining hotels which creates a slightly unusual set up. but even then, it is really very conveniently laid out...
Review 6:this hotel is in an absolutely perfect location. directly on the lake within two blocks of the state capital and everything surrounding it.
Review 7:Service and food at Boathouse restaurant was poor. Disappointing since it is a fairly new restaurant.
Review 8:Nice hotel, enjoyed the restaurant in hotel. Spa was excellent !
Review 9:First room - air conditioning didn't work and neither did the blinds and after I trouped back down the elevator, stairs & across the parking lot two intern desk clerks told me - there is a thermostat in each room - no kidding! It didn't work & asked for a new room and I said I didn't want a room in the same building & they had nothing in the main building, so they said - after going back to the manager officers for each request or observation - not enough experience to make a decision on their own and no one at the desk with knowledge. Got the new room and trooped back - not enough info on directions - poorly marked signs. Their pub for dinner was messy with boxes piled in the entry like they were restocking in the middle of clientele. I was treated to a cheese tray after all this with room service at my door but I was afraid to answer it since I had not ordered anything - they could have left a note that I could order this free of charge instead of showing up at my door scaring me...all in all it was a difficult and long day personally & the hotel experience wasn't pleasing.
Review 10:Rooms are updated & clean
Review 11:I stayed for 3 nights & on my 3rd day, I was disappointed to return to my room at 2:30 in afternoon & find that the room was still not cleaned up. Later thst evening when I came back to the room, the beds were made in a sloppy way & towels were left strewn about in the bathroom. I called housekeeping to complain & thankfully they came up promptly & redid it perfectly. Also, for such a nice hotel, I would've really liked a real ceramic mug to drink my tea/coffee from rather than a paper cup.
Review 12:the room was really spacious & lovely, beds were excellent & the shuttle was extremely helpful in dropping us off somewhere rather than having to take our car & deal w/parking.
Review 13:Confusion regarding attempting to add an additional night onto an existing reservation.
Review 14:Location on the lake. Varied places to sit inside and outside. Quick retrieval of vehicle. Close to the square.
Review 15:There was a slightly musty smell in the room that I took to be because of the summer humidity and location. If you have allergies, you probably want a higher room.
Review 16:The location in Madison is wonderful. I was very pleased with the staff. And my room, on the 1st floor by the lake, was perfect!
Review 17:The building has a huge staircase in the center. The hotel is hard to get around in. Long hilly dark hallways, ugly décor. Room was small and overpriced. Restaurant items overpriced. Parking overpriced. It's like going to Chicago or New York, but this is Madison, Wisconsin. Wouldn't recommend this hotel.
Review 18:Our room with its own large terrace, overlooking beautiful Lake Mendota, included the room next door's bathroom window. Unsettling.
Review 19:Beautiful setting, lovely room
Review 20:One of the best hotels we have stayed in recently: very comfortable beds with lots of quality pillows. Large bath with separate toilet and a large walk in shower, floor to ceiling windows of the lake, fast, free multi device internet, 24 hour room service, great food at a reasonable price. star star star star star
Review 21:Unfortunately I have to remove it from my list of peaceful, romantic get-aways on the delightful shores of Lake Mendota. I would have appreciated Room service making my bed for my second night stay.
Review 22:It's location.
Review 23:The floor plan is confusing. The sixth floor is the lobby.
Review 24:I had 5 separate meetings that day at different locations. The last was at a party under a tent at the hotel. The lake view, elegant atmosphere and congeniality of the attendees was a perfect way to wind down my day. Dessert in the restaurant was fabulous. My room was peaceful, immaculate, and well-appointed.
Review 25:Swimming pool and top-floor bar with view would have perfected stay. Some problems with connecting to wireless from room.
Review 26:Quality room with generous lay-out. Comfortable walk-in shower, separate toilet.
Review 27:I think the balconies could each have two comfortable chairs. Plus we paid for a room with a lake view but our balcony was a solid block wall so you couldn't see the lake anyway unless you were standing up.
Review 28:Wifi in a hotel in Madison should be free as it's an essential need.Self park was not well marked .
Review 29:Great Hotel very close to Capitol and UW but no frenzi. Views gorgeous and rooms take advantage of this.
Review 30:I wanted to have a birthday party for 19 people. The Stateroom staff worked with me to find just the perfect, private dining room. The Sunday brunch buffet was spectacular-- delicious, abundant, and great variety. Because we had rooms at the hotel, they waived the fee for the private room. The service was excellent. The lovely view looked out over the frozen lake.
Review 31:I should have read the fine print but didn't realize there was no coffee/tea maker in the rooms.
Review 32:I was upgraded to a lake view suite, which was beautiful. Bed was ultra comfy, TV had premium cable channels. Visited the bar which has a really nice atmosphere.
Review 33:Didn't have a bad experience, but didn't realize that much was still under construction. A good map of the hotel and facilities (floor by floor) would be helpful. I don't see why ice machines are only located floors 1 - 4, while we were on 12.
Review 34:walking on Lake Mendota, close to UW, easy access to most downtown Madison, awesome Statehouse Restaurant - I can see this becoming (if done right) a premiere restaurant in Madison. Good brunch.
Review 35:Parking, long walk down cold hallways to get anywhere, staff was rude treated us like we didn't belong there, room want even close to what I read that it was supposed to be, worst Valentines day ever!
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:Cell phone reception was bad.
Review 38:Very friendly staff, Beautiful hotel! will definitely be back when we can enjoy the lake view in the non winter months....
Review 39:Nice workout room but small pool. Rates expensive but good value even so.
Review 40:Comfortable room and bed, excellent hotel restaurant and bar, good valet parking.
Review 41:Restaurant was very expensive, had to pay an extra $18 to park and $12 for a "resort fee" for exercise equipment and pool we didn't use. Miss the old days when you could just drive into their ramp and take care of business. Paid extra for a lakeview and the room faced down Langdon strret. The only lakeview was if you pressed your nose to the window and looked to the right. We went back to the front desk and they said oh... You want a "lakefront" view. There was one available and they switched us at no charge.
Review 42:Excellent facility. Very comfortable room, outstanding view. Beautiful location, great staff.
Review 43:The hotel was beautiful, lake view from our room was fantastic! Our room was excellent! Loved the ice skating rink, it added a homey touch to the outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would use this hotel again!
Review 44:We did not have hot water in the shower or faucet at the sink. It appeared they had fixed it late in the morning of our checkout, but too late to have enjoyed the modern shower in the room.
Review 45:The room and view were beautiful. Location allows for easy access to the state capitol and restaurants and bars in the area. The bed in the room was very comfortable.
Review 46:Room/hallway layout odd - our water view room allowed people on several different floors to see directly into our room from the hallway windows, specifically at the bed area - which meant we had to keep the curtains completely closed. Kind of defeated the purpose. Ideally they'd move the bed to a different wall.
Review 47:Waterfront location, great proximity to Capitol, attractions, excellent showers/bath, staff accommodating of early check in.
Review 48:You pay a premium price for such great services!!
Review 49:The hotel is beautiful - newly built tower next to renovated original tower, both with top-notch amenities and beautiful views of lake Mendota. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall best hotel experience in the area hands down.
Review 50:They down graded my room. Was not the room i booked. They charged me for the upgrade room then down graded the room but never credit my amount to the lesser room.
Review 51:Not very much
Review 52:Parking garage was a nightmare—I was given very confusing directions as to the in-and-out privileges. I could elaborate. There was no signage directing guests to the check-in desk from the garage on my parking level. Called room service for breakfast before I went to bed. They had no record of the order the following morning. Had to re-order and then it wasn't right.
Review 53:Beautiful location, very comfortable, lovely facilities—its a shame it's so poorly managed.
Review 54:Vanity area in bathroom needs a chair. Overnight ramp parking a little too expensive.
Review 55:Beautiful room, great location, great staff. Fun to look at all the historical photos in the building. Definitely need to go back in the summer to enjoy the lakeside location.
Review 56:It smelled like paint in a few places from the renovation
Review 57:Our stay was fantastic, the staff, especially the guys behind the bar in the mornings for our morning coffee.
Review 58:The long walk to the landon, no heat in the bathroom, the hot water tooka long time to heat with ver little water pressure, and lastly thecoffee pot did not work
Review 59:The bedwas wonderful
Review 60:Still being renovated and lobby, elevator had a peculiar smell but everything else was wonderful
Review 61:Spacious comfortable room with terrace, was hoping to have a better view of lake, but breathtaking view from restaurant which was outstanding
Review 62:Brunch buffet ended at 11 but restaurant staff didn't tell me that when I made a reservation at noon.
Review 63:Beautiful facilities Comfortable bed Quiet room Awesome view Walking distance to downtown
Review 64:In-room breakfast service. Order was incorrect. No condiments served? Dry burnt toast served with out butter or jam? Open beverage delivered with out lid, or wrap? Requested scrambled eggs, received burnt fried eggs. Service cart dusty. Parking staff confused with simple request.
Review 65:Location and facility excellent. Front desk and all staff very kind, and accomadating. I checked out early and held my bags in storage
Review 66:Absence of any advice on connecting to Wi-Fi. Absence of any guide to hotel amenities, locations, availability, etc. Absence of any guides to local attractions. Absence of any good movies on demand.
Review 67:Comfortable. TV system understandable.
Review 68:The only thing I would improve on in each room would be the addition of a Kerug or some other kind of coffee service in room to have as needed.
Review 69:The staff was helpful, courteous and professional. The room was comfortable and a great view from lakeview room. The robes were nice and comfy as well.
Review 70:One night we had VERY loud neighbors. Security came to quiet them, but they were still loud.
Review 71:I loved the bathroom and the decor. The lake view was beautiful!
Review 72:- Attitude at front desk- - Room was not clean to standards expected - no window covering on bathroom window
Review 73:Location- when completed will be much better hopefully - Car service and responsiveness
Review 74:I had to overlook the problems and wish maybe the room would have been discounted. To have to pay full price for an unfinished hotel seemed wrong. I will definitely stay here again, but not until hotel is finished. The bad part was I didn't know it was not finished until they called and explained the day before my arrival. The waived the resort fee but had to pay valet fee because parking lot is not done. Why a resort fee anyway. This is not a resort just a hotel.
Review 75:The location on the lake is amazing!! It is a beautiful hotel but since it is still under construction there were some problems.
Review 76:It would have been nice to know that "a little construction" ongoing meant, the place was a massive construction site with guys working under impossible deadlines, yet the hotel managed to make it work. Also a better definition of Lake view vs lake side would be nice. Real had to stretch to see the lake from the one foot wide balcony
Review 77:The place is real nice, staff is great and very helpful. Could walk everywhere we wanted, but the hotel had a shuttle it needed
Review 78:no hot water in shower! beds are unusually hard, not just firm. limited access to coffee. I had some w breakfast but I need it when i wake up. restrictions on smoking are a bit much. i understand if the driveway is busy but it was midnight, and as a woman alone I shouldnt have to walk up the street. no one else was around.
Review 79:location, location, location

Review 99:I found a potato chip on my floor and there was no bath mat in the bathroom
Review 100:nice people and beautiful view, great Yoga class Jim
Review 101:We had a deluxe king room looking out on the lake. Lovely.
Review 102:AC not very good.
Review 103:Staff n location: GREAT!
Review 104:Way overpriced for a room, you get no extras. Pay $300 plus and still have to pay for parking
Review 105:Location, comfort
Review 106:No microwave in room and wifi is weak. Have to pay for parking.
Review 107:Great location with water views and large, comfortable rooms.
