Reviews for Aston Aloha Beach Hotel

Review 1:Hôtels was not clean, main pool closed. Very noisy at night with non-respect of workers. We will never used Aston hotels anymore. How a brand name can accept that low level of standards?

Review 2:Localisation close to downtown.

Review 3:What I didn't like is that our trash cans never had rubbish bags inside of it. I had to call front desk or house keeping for a trash bag and plus they gave me a used trash bag.

Review 4:I love staying at the Aston aloha beach resort. Enjoyed the view and the air conditioning!

Review 5:As discussed rain water and general disrepair detracted from the location, foyer entry and food hall was grand but the ponds and surroundings were terrible, pool area lacking variation no bar no restaurant. Understanding that construction has started and can see huge potential.

Review 6:Love the location and main structures in place however it is currently requiring major rebuilding and development, in its prime time I bet it was beautiful and luxury but now has reached it life cycle . Monica the cleaning lady was great and always happy and happy to help me.

Review 7:Do not stay here!!!!! Warning!!!!! You could not pay me to stay here. They are bugs and it is run down and looks like it should be condemned.I am mad that booking.com is even booking such a mess of a hotel. It isdirty!!!!!!!!!!

Review 8:Do not stay here. The hotel should be closed. They have bugs and bedbugs. It is a run down mess of a place that could have been nice about10 years ago. It looks like a bomb hit there. I am telling you. I wouldnot stay here if it was free.

Review 9:The reception staff (except Sharon) we're very judgmental of us (maybe because we're young Europeans) despite us being paying guests. The concierge was NOT helpful at all and we had to organise all our own activities. Clearly not interested in helping us as she didnt even give any leaflets! Glad I had the internet and my phone otherwise We would have been bored as this hotel is miles away from any bars or restaurants. And the fitness centre?! 2 very old cardio machines does not mean you have a centre! Appalling.

Review 10:The breakfast staff were very friendly, attentive and the food/ lunchtime cocktails were good. Location to the lydgate beach.

Review 11:Hotel was old and in disrepair.Beds were old all the furniture, carpets, counteftops were worn , old, chipped. The outdoor dining deck paint was peeling, the room ceiling was water stained and damaged.

Review 12:Close to beach and to airport.

Review 13:No wifi in the room, termites on the back deck (did get taken care of), no laundry and no computer (under construction). Carpet in the room was dirty and the whole place needs an upgrade which is being completed so i was told.

Review 14:Location was great, staff very friendly and at one time this would have been a super facility.

Review 15:One really thin pillow per guest is definitely not enough. Each room should come with two per person for comfort and more kept in storage units.

Review 16:The fact that the wifi was able to be used everywhere. The Palms restaurant was awesome. The rooms were really nice and kept in impeccable condition. Nice pool and grounds.

Review 17:The shower was a little small and it could've been a little cleaner but overall it was a good place to stay!

Review 18:We spent only one night here but it is a beautiful hotel surround by the ocean. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful gardens and small ponds. The room was nice and cozy!

Review 19:AC was to loud. Did not use it. It was cool at night so we opened up the sliding door. However, street noise could be heard which wasn't too bad, BUT you've got to do something about the chickens. They're out of control. Not just there but everywhere.

Review 20:The price and the staff. Very friendly and courteous.

Review 21:The bed was the worse we've ever slept on-old lumpy mattress. The sheets were thin and had holes in them. The bath towels were thin and small (some stained). In it's hay day this hotel was probably great-needs maintenance bad.

Review 22:The location was great!

Review 23:The hotel is very old and is in desperate need of a renovation. Stained walls, old carpet, dim lighting...

Review 24:The staff is super friendly and helpful. My room was as clean as it could be.

Review 25:I didn't like swimming in the pool and having to worry about the kids being alone and having to watch kids because their parents wasn't there to keep an eye on them. Also hate that people come from the beach and swim in the pool so they kinda take over.

Review 26:I liked the service. When I needed to have extra towels it came quick I liked being close to the front desk. I also love the service at the desk.my favorite worker was Michelle. Not being racest but the white lady on the bigger set.idk her last name but she was an amazing help. And the old skinny uncle that was security I think.idk.but either way it was amazing.

Review 27:The windows and screens were outdated. They were hard to move.

Review 28:It's conveniently located to where the whole island is accessible. A great value for a decent hotel. Quiet and right next to a beach. I strongly suggest this hotel if looking for something simple but very relaxing. I enjoyed how they were located right on the water and a lot of their rooms face that way. Strongly recommended

Review 29:The property is a bit old but has its own little charm that I tossed up as the way of the islands.

Review 30:I had an ocean view on the ground floor and though the sliding door was hard to open, it was nice to be able to walk right onto the grass to sit on a bench and watch the sinrise.

Review 31:The overall appearance of this hotel was dismal and depressing. It had once been a lovely resort at a fine location but it has been neglected for a long time and it shows. Things were falling apart, the carpets reeked, the air conditioner was so noisy we got up and turned it off during the night, the dining room was dirty and unpleasant. The fish ponds were green and slimy. Many of the rooms appeared to be closed up and not used. Our TV was the old tube kind with a crummy picture. The room, floor, bathroom, etc. were generally dirty and run down. The door to the outside didn't open.

Review 32:The lady who cleaned our room was exceptionally kind and friendly. The hotel is well located on a park and pretty beach.

Review 33:The maintenance of the facility is poor. A lot of repairs are needed in the main lobby and breakfast area. Wi-fi costs extra and is too expensive. The spa was closed during our week-long stay.

Review 34:The location was good. The view of the ocean sunrises was great. The maid service was very good.

Review 35:This Hotel is a dump! Do not stay at the ashton!!!! The mirror wasfilthy, the shower was dirty, my socks were full of ants. Please do yourself a favor pay a little more and stay somewhere else!!!

Review 36:My sliding door was hard to use because of the rust and it took three calls to get it fixed

Review 37:I enjoyed that we were right on the beach. My wife does not swim that well, but they had that swimming cove that my wife enjoyed swimming

Review 38:Hotel towels were dirty, shower drain was clogged, AC ventilation was clogged/dirty, when I turned on the AC black lint or mildew flew on top my bed and bed uncomfortable in Rm. 1238

Review 39:Hotel did not have a fitness centre as advertised - I should say there is one there but it is in no working order. Poor form on their behalf as it is essentially false advertising. In terms of value was ok (but like many places) perhaps a little over priced for the general offering.

Review 40:Excellent location, friendly staff and generally good other amenities.

Review 41:Our room had a smell and all fixtures and carpets were in need of updating. Common areas were the same. $1.00 charge for a to-go container for the free fruit plate.

Review 42:Location was not too far from airport and close to food and shopping. Far enough off the highway to be quiet and good for rest and sleeping. Lots of hot water and a great shower head!

Review 43:The rooms are filthy. The sheets threadbare. The beds flogged, forced to roll into middle of the mattresses. Duct tape covering holes in doors. locks did not work. Carpet threadbare, worn and dangerous on stairs. Chickens roosting everywhere. Visible mold in pools. Grounds not maintained.

Review 44:The location was good.

Review 45:We like complimentary fruit plate, but the coffee and tea they served were either cold or taste like 2 weeks old:-( Hotel had only one washing machine and dryer and quite old!!! It took almost 3 hours to finish the laundry for 1 person. Feel bad for the family with the kids.

Review 46:Great location 1 hour to get North and 1 hours to get South. Room are not in luxury side of scale but you get what you pay for. It was OK for us, always clean. Kids playground and beach is in walking distance, close to downtown, cheap rate for renting bikes and beautiful biking path along the shore.

Review 47:The room had a leaking dripping ceiling and bathroom fixtures broken. We reported to the front desk and they did not offer to change our room. They told us we would not be charged.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:Lack of dining room. Being a little out of the way there was no dining restaurant. Once again no BBQ facilities (Had to go elsewhere to dine/cook) Bbq's don't cost much, a few near the pool would be ideal especially when there is no dining restaurant.

Review 50:Big rooms.

Review 51:Be sure to note that the taxes are not included in the quote, nor is an $18 (really 18.75 after taxes) mandatory fee for your 'free' wifi, DVDs, morning paper, and fruit plate for breakfast. So add at least $30/day to the quote & it will be closer to what you actually pay. They pointed out that it was written on the confirmation email, so make sure to read the fine print!

Review 52:Great location, beautiful area, comfy bed. Staff was helpful. Right on the beach & next to a park. AC worked, shower was adjustable to preference. Overall happy with the stay.

Review 53:However the property is very run down and will need millions poured into it to return to its glory days. The rooms were clean but the stucco was in poor repair and the metal was corroded. It was adequate for a very brief stay. It has potential to become a very nice property with some TLC

Review 54:The staff was very pleasant and helpful, the location is convenient and it has a lovely view.

Review 55:pretty outdated and kind of dirty. With a few updates and some new stuff this hotel could be awesome!! The fruit plate wasn't big enough to even bother getting.

Review 56:loved the location, kind of central (one day we went north and another we went south). the beach wasn't very crowded! The DVDnow feature was nice as well. Cheap price!! We would stay here again if we ever make it back

Review 57:Again, old facility, needs an upgrade. Could be so much better, but clearly a money maker for owner the way it is. Poor beach access. Sewage plant nearby.

Review 58:Location, mid way on the island. Accessible to all points.

Review 59:The glass slider wouldn't open. The shower flooded the bathroom floor with every use. The whole hotel is dated and in dire need of an overhaul. The state park between the hotel and the beach is poorly maintained.

Review 60:We liked the proximity to the beach.

Review 61:The bathrooms was a bit small, especially the shower. I was disappointed in the laundromat facilities since there was only one each of a washer and dryer.

Review 62:We loved how much room we had for two people. The big was big enough, had a fridge, and enjoyed the small sitting area.

Review 63:Needs to be updated, elevator noisy. Nothing fancy. Hard to find parking sometimes.

Review 64:Well located between Kapaa and Lihue near the airport. Walking distance to beach. Free internet. Grounds are nice.

Review 65:the hotel was very poorly up kept, the ponds were super green and mossy you could hardly see the koi fish. the rails was rusty, dangerous. The ac in the room was musty and vent very dusty.

Review 66:loction was great, maid service very clean.

Review 67:Facility while clean and comfortable is in need of livening up.

Review 68:Great beach with few people for the size. Snorkel pool and protected area is good for children and beginners.

Review 69:We were on the ground floor, and the sliding glass door took two people to open. No smoke alarms or sprinklers in rooms ,and out of the 216 rooms, only 100 of them are rentable due to mould and greenery growing inside on the rugs.Really, looked in windows and it was unbelievable.

Review 70:The hotel is situated on beautiful grounds and close to Lydgate Park.

Review 71:The room was dirty, very dirty. The carpet made me not want to take my shoes off. We spent the extra on the cottage, but they are really duplexes. The kitchen had only minimal resources. The amenities are non existent.

Review 72:Not much. Free movies. Booking.com should drop this listing until they do the upgrades they refer say they are going to. Although I don't expect luxury, I do expect a minimum standard when I use this Booking.com. I did not get that.

Review 73:The hotel is old, but kept up. Sliding glass door on ground floor REALLY hard to open.

Review 74:The property is one of the best locations on the east side. You can go north or south, right in the middle.

Review 75:Didn't like how someone had a room key to my room. Whether we left and came back the door was open..

Review 76:I liked how well they did customer service. Took care of the room problem with up graded room.

Review 77:-We notified them of checking in at noon, but they still didn't have our room ready till 3. -Bathroom smelled like sewage, had to keep door closed to the room. -They wanted to move us at 10 pm because they gave us the wrong room, I had to put my foot down and say no. -Room and facilities were dated. The entire hotel needs a lift. Stains everywhere.

Review 78:-Open window to an ocean view -Very quiet -Slept well, bed was quite comfortable -Cute chickens in the parking lot -free wifi -12 minute drive from Lihue Airport -5 minute drive to shops/restaurants -cheap rate compared to other hotels in the area

Review 79:Hotel facility requires a complete restoration. The staff is poorly trained or poorly paid to pay attention to the guests. Coffee in the room was weak. The voucher for coffee at breakfast time would time almost an hour to show up. Bad experience. Would't recommend anyone to stay.

Review 80:Location

Review 81:The room was very musty smelling, and the carpet needed replacing years ago. The whole room needed updating, from paint to wallpaper. Wood rotted boards on ceiling out on deck, deck not clean when checked in. This whole resort needs a serious facelift!

Review 82:The location was very nice, and the beach was right in front of the resort for convienence.

Review 83:There was a grape on the floor under a chair when we arrived - we stayed for 7 days and it was there when we left so clearly not cleaned properly.. Carpet felt greasey.. Visually it's a bit dated but who cares - don't spend all day inside anyway

Review 84:Great location - we spent a bit extra to get a room with beach front access and views - was definitely worth it!

Review 85:fruit plate doesn't make a continental breakfast which is what i believe was in the hotel information also restuarant only open breakfasts & lunch..employees not all need classes on customer service... things said in front of me about another guest... not good

Review 86:quite area and close to area needed for work. your given a coupon for fruit plate

Review 87:- my room was not really well cleaned - without the air condition (very loud) horrible smell in the room - ground floor, but not possible to open the windows

Review 88:- a lot of parking spaces - close to a nice beach and to the airport

Review 89:Amenity fee (too pricey for what you get, e.g. "fruit platter"), hotel is kind of worn down (but alltogether ok), old TVs (ours broke the first night), a microwave would be great

Review 90:Location, free parking, comfy & clean beds, large room, large bathroom, fridge, free & working Wifi, nice lobby, friendly staff. Good price for what you get :)

Review 91:'60s-obviously outdated, many amenities missing (No shuffleboard, Pool closed, no food at night , linens poor, reggae concert on Sunday night very noisy, seen better days-do not go if want better than sad feeling place.

Review 92:A nice closeness to beach and public park

Review 93:Outdated hotel complex

Review 94:Location location location. The hotel is dated and needs some upgrades but for the price the location is great. Snorkel beach walking distance from room, just out of your door and centrally located between poi pu beach and north shore. Great value recommend will be back next year.

Review 95:The room was old and needed work We received paper stating they were spraying for bugs the next morning and saw a bug crawl across the bed. They have pretty fountains but were not working and had stagnant water which brought bugs.

Review 96:The price close to beach & airport

Review 97:Building is not well maintained. Elevator smelled of urine, was jerky, and did not always move after the doors closed. It is like the owners have not been spending any money to keep the facilities up to date.

Review 98:Price. Location is good between Lihue and Kapaa, but getting onto the highway back to Lihue can be a chore.

Review 99:The room smells musty, it feels very old. The halls feel eerie.

Review 100:Free upgrades to an ocean view rooms. Location of the hotel is superb. Great view of the beach from the parking lot. Friendly staff.

Review 101:Old hotel that was probAbly once upon a time, very, very nice. Rooms are simple and roomy, nothing fancy which is what I like, but has not seen any renovations. Everything old and gloomy. Dirty walls, spiders on doors. Lobby- dirty, termite eaten. There is a paper sign in a sheet holder that says "do not lean against fence" because metal fending rusted. the pond filled with mold and murky water. Structure termite eaten, spiders and cob web on ceiling. It must have been a very nice hotel once upon a time. Now looks like a place no one, even it's employees care about. $85/night end ip being $113 with tax included! Too bad, I would recommend it to everyone if it was clean and rennovated. It truly must have been a beautiful hotel once upon a time! no one even answers the phone either.

Review 102:Perfect location. Central. Small central town just a mile away with local shops, restaurants and major island grocery stores. The view of the beach is beautiful.

Review 103:We were a bit concerned about staying here, having read some of the less-than-flattering reviews on this site; but this turned out to be one of the more pleasant hotel experiences we’ve had – and we are seasoned travelers. So what if the décor is out of fashion? Who cares if the ceiling is the old popcorn-style texture; or if the TV isn’t the latest flat-screen HD model; or if there are a few rust spots on the ironing board? The room was spotlessly clean, the king bed had a new, comfortable mattress, and the staff (love you, Kai) treated us like we were old friends staying over at their house. No, this is not a sterile, perfectly homogenized resort like the big-name hotel chains. But its flaws are minor – and part of the charm. Above all, it is the best hotel value on the island, and is located in one of the best spots on Kauai. If you want warmth, comfort, a friendly staff, the best bang for your buck – and can overlook out-of-style fixtures – the Aston Aloha is a wonderful place to stay.

Review 104:Facility is a bit shabby, needs updating, although that makes the hotel affordable so we don't mind since it is clean and friendly and wonderful location. Could use more towels and bathroom shower is not the best in terms of faucets

Review 105:We really enjoyed the value and proximity to Lytegate park, a pleasant stroll through historic Hawaiin sacred grounds and old Hawaiin safe house ruins, the morning snorkeling at Lytegate lagoon was fantastic

Review 106:I loved the hotel, it's staff and it's chickens. That being said, this is not the hotel for you if you are wanting room service, pool boys, boat drinks and day spas. Those facilities can be found on both the north and south shores.

Review 107:This hotel possibly has the best location on the island. Equidistant to both north and south shores. Walking distance to a very nice beach some rooms with beach views. The staff are outstanding. Housekeeping kept my room impeccable for my entire 8 day stay. I personally loved that I had a feral chicken family, complete with rooster, hen and chicks living in the shrubs outside my patio door. True Kauai! I strongly suggest watching sunrise from the lobby with a cup of coffee. I would take my iPad, a cup of coffee with me, sit in the lobby, touch base on business emails and watch the sun rise over the Pacific. What a fabulous way to conduct business. I did not want to leave. I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone with an open mind, adventurous spirit and wanting to capture the essence of life on Kauai.

Review 108:There is no restaurant on the property, so you have to travel for meals.

Review 109:It was close to everything.

Review 110:we didnot stay at hotel since it is under construction. it has been sold to hilton. they hope to open in march 2016.

Review 111:Well the bed need to be change, but I heard that there's a renovations on going on the property that's good

Review 112:The price is right

Review 113:WE COULD NOT USE THE LAUNDRY ROOM.

Review 114:THE STAY WAS VERY GOOD. SORRY IT CAME OUT TO A 8.8, THE ONLY THING WAS THE LAUNDRY ROOM ISSUE

Review 115:Traffic terrible.

Review 116:Location was good. Price affordable.

Review 117:Good value, nice staff, loved the chickens and cats. Nice sized room and clean.

Review 118:old windows, old smell

Review 119:staff perfect

Review 120:needs a massive face lift rooms currently getting done but grounds as well

Review 121:Good location central to every thing. And very large rooms

Review 122:Bathroom need to updated, bed need to replace

Review 123:The price is not too bad

Review 124:Included breakfast was a small fruit plate and a cup of coffee.

Review 125:Got a bungalow

Review 126:I had a great stay! Great location. Big spacious room over looking the beach. Clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this place!

Review 127:I realize that you are renovating and I am glad that you are because you have a VERY BEAUTIFUL Location!

Review 128:none

Review 129:Nice staff

Review 130:First night A/C was torched ,80 degree over with warm air .. daily infested with roaches when I was relocated.

Review 131:The friendly work staff

Review 132:Absolutely filthy! Disgusting. Don't touch ANYTHING if you go...

Review 133:Nothing.

Review 134:The rate of comments, I only staying for 1 night

Review 135:Bed was terrible staff was sloppy building was falling apart

Review 136:Location only

Review 137:Roosters at 5 in the morning.

Review 138:Location and ocean view room.

Review 139:Rundown look!

Review 140:Large room, comfortable, Close to the airport
