Reviews for Sleeping Ute Mountain Motel
Review 1:The toilet was constantly leaking, and there was no way to turn on a fan in the bathroom so the heat from the shower could escape. I had to leave the bathroom window open a bit, which opens to the front. Anyone could have opened it wider and peeked in. The password didn't work for the extended wi-fi, so we were allowed to use the office wi-fi, which was really slow. The place really needs to be updated and is way too high priced for what you get. Also, it was advertised that free breakfast was included, but that is only available in the summer, not the winter. Thankfully, there was a refrigerator and microwave in the room, and the place is fairly close to some stores, so since we had breakfast items already with us, a quick trip to the store completed what we needed and we were able to eat in the room.
Review 2:Staff at the front desk was friendly, and the beds were comfortable. The room was pretty clean, but the bathroom seemed a bit dirty. I liked having a refrigerator and microwave in the room. The view outside the window was nice.
Review 3:dirty sheets, dirty old carpet, rating of this motel should be one star or less.It should be out of business.People who live there made us feel unsafe. Some of them were drank and up all night. We would not stay there again even for free.Worst motel ever!!!Almost $90 dollars is crazy.
Review 4:nothing
Review 5:It was a little dated, that's ok though. It's an old building and the rooms could use a bit of TLC or newer, modern decor; ie the bedspread, curtains, etc. It was quiet, clean, a good value, and suited us perfectly for a quick little getaway from the city!
Review 6:Interacted with one staff member who was very personable, friendly, and accomodating. Our room had a pretty little view of a meadow with trees, flowers, and the mountain in the distance. We were even treated to a group of deer passing thru!
Review 7:We booked this hotel based on some reviews of super friendly staff, wonderful breakfast, etc... There must have been some changes because the breakfast consisted of pastries, fruit and coffee and the staff, while courteous and efficient, was certainly not very friendly.
Review 8:Very over rated. Dingy and dirty. Holes in the curtains. The window was cracked. Cigarette burns everywhere in a non smoking room. Wifi didn't work.
Review 9:The breakfast was very good. The style of the room was antique, wich we liked. It was pure, but lovely. The yard behind the motel was good for sitting and relaxing a bit.
Review 10:Not a place I would recommend to anybody fussy -- my wife would consider it a step above a dump. Bathroom and sink fixtures substandard.
Review 11:Quiet, and convenient location at the west edge of Cortez, CO. Refrigerator quiet and cold.
Review 12:Older facility and shows it. Poor breakfast eating area Internet only worked from reception area. Limited breakfast choice Would not recommend for stays beyond 1 night
Review 13:Price of accommodation Quietness Friendliness/enthusiasm of owner/manager
Review 14:old building with stairs and corridors dirty. Rooms old, yellowed sheets. breakfast does not exist better go to the motels on the main street
Review 15:Room was dirty, carpet was gross, TV remote had no batteries, kids were screaming, running around, people were just sitting around in the parking lot- did not feel safe
Review 16:Nothing.
Review 17:This is an older motel that the owners are very proud of and it shows. Very clean room and very comfortable beds. Excellent value for the money. Great location to downtown but on the quiet side. The big suprise was the breakfast! Blueberry Crepes, french toast with fresh fruit and Cajun donuts called Benya’s (sp?) Who would have expected that!
Review 18:- Carpet full of cigarette burns - wifi did not work - large cigarette cans in front of every room - guests seemed to be contractors only
Review 19:Owner very friendly
Review 20:The carpets were in dire need of cleaning or replacement & the bathroom linoleum was sticky & in need of repair: we hardly felt like taking our shoes off! The place needed more TLC all around .
Review 21:The price, the friendliness & helpfulness of the manager was good, and the presence of an antique covered wagon by the picnic table was a nice touch. The Jew Orleans style breakfast treats were good.
Review 22:I met up with my friend at the four corners, about 45 minutes from this motel. It had decent reviews so we decided to give it a try. Our check in time was between 2 and 3 and we arrived at 2:50. There was a sign on the door saying that the motel was fully booked (which was obviously not the case) and that the owner would be back at 3 to check in guests with reservations. We waited over 40 minutes until finally a man who had obviously just woken up came outside. They didn't have our reservation written down anywhere and said our quoted price was $20 more than it should have been but we had to pay it anyway. They gave us our room key, but not to the room with a mountain view that we had payed extra for. The beds were awful and we felt like we had walked into the 70's by the looks of the room. All of the windows were unlocked and the door did not lock properly. We did not feel safe. There were smudges on the sheets, the tv and wifi did not work at all, the toilet hardly flushed, and the shower was either scalding or freezing. We were very creeped out. Honestly, I don't know how this place has the review score it does because the only good thing I can say about it is that we will have an interesting story of our terrible stay. There are PLENTY of places near by just as cheap and I would suggest going ANYwhere else, even if you pay a bit more. Thank goodness we only booked one night!
Review 23:Sometimes you just can't fix old motels. Wifi did not work and 3G even struggled in our room. Bad mattress and broken curtain.
Review 24:The manager was very sweet and we got a lower rate than was initially quoted.
Review 25:Manager was amazing. Fixed beignets, crepes, muffins and homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast during our stay. She had a delightful personality and we enjoyed meeting other guests.
Review 26:The rooms were extremely dirty and the first room we were put in smelled like smoke. We asked to change rooms and the next room was better smoke-wise, but I still saw bugs in the room and it was still dirty. Unfortunately we were in Cortez over the Fourth of July and the rest of the hotels in town were booked so we had to stay here. We went to Mesa Verde the next day and while we were there we chatted with a lady in the gift shop that said she was from Cortez and this hotel was the absolute worst hotel in the entire city! Apparently it just reopened (it was closed because they weren't allowed to operate as a hotel because of how horrible it is) and she has no idea how it was reopened. She said that it is known at the party place where drug deals take place. I would not recommend staying here in the future.
Review 27:Sonja, the manager is a very nice lady.
Review 28:General disrepair--tired looking. Never got the TV to work.
Review 29:Was able to keep the temperature where I wished and bed was good.
Review 30:Chose not to stay. Room cleanliness and general appearance made us anxious.
Review 31:WIFI never worked. Room was older and not updated
Review 32:Close to Mesa Verde! They waited for our late arrival! AC was awesome; clean and very affordable!
Review 33:Ice machine not working.
Review 34:Friendly and efficient staff.
Review 35:Talking with the owner
Review 36:no mattress pads,and sheets didn't fit beds,pillows ok
Review 37:we could see sleeping ute
Review 38:The owner left a note on my door, trying to receive more money from me before my stay was over.
Review 39:very old carpet dirty bedding old and cheap beds horrible sleeping pillows horrible no breakfast
Review 40:No ice, no vending, no breakfast, no secondary door locks, no microwave, no way again
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:breakfast was excellent and the hostess was friendly
Review 43:The beds were not the most comfortable but they were ok.
Review 44:The owner was very friendly and is working hard to improve this hotel. She serves a nice breakfast and for the cost it was a nice place to stay. Clean and well kept.
Review 45:Only issue I had was WiFi was a little bit spotty.
Review 46:The manager Sonja was very friendly and helpful. She took the time to place a travel magazine on my door when I told her I was looking for places to visit in the vicinity. She also made yummy crepes in the morning.
Review 47:No 24 hour manned front desk. Horrible breakfast. There are three of us and yet only two towels? No security, the door barley locked and looked as if it had been kicked in before. No knowledge of area's main attraction, or where to find a good restaurant. The room was worn out, old spring mattress, sheets that did not fit and needed adjustments all night.
Review 48:Not much. It was low cost.
Review 49:It seemed as if many of the people staying there were actually living there.(Outside drinking and smoking for a good portion of the night) The door had a very large gap all the way around when closed, and unfortunately only the lock that was present was on the door knob. Seemed like it would be very easy to break in. The carpet was extremely sticky.
Review 50:Proximity to Mesa Verde
Review 51:They are working on improving the WiFi system but while i was there, it was really really slow. The interior of the rooms is old and shabby. It needs, at the very least, a basic remodel. While it was clean, the shabbiness made you feel like it was dirty. The biggest drawback for me as a solo female traveler was that there was only the lock on the handle of the door. The doors need an extra deadbolt or locking mechanism of some sort.
Review 52:The location was great for me for stopping after driving from California. Its proximity to Mesa Verde is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 53:Sonya was so friendly and welcoming. Her homemade breakfast was a nice touch. The room was cute and felt like home. Great value and convenient location.
Review 54:We felt like we were staying at the "Bates Motel." It was "seedy." The breakfast was minimal and not as described by the owner. We would not stay there again or recommend it to our enemies!
Review 55:The owner allowed a change of booking without penalty although it was outside the stated allowed time window. The room was clean despite its run-down condition and the stale, smoky smell.
Review 56:Exterior is getting run down. The office was not very clean and had an odor. The owner, although seeming to be very nice, was unkempt and seemed frazzled. She said the housekeeper had not shown up that day so she had to clean rooms herself. Understandable. However, the next morning, she was still wearing the same dirty clothes that she had on the day before. This was before any housekeeping had started for the day. When we checked in she had a very hard time getting the credit card machine to work and check in took quite a long time. Soon after arrival it became quite apparent that most guests are long term residents. There were several people sitting outside our room drinking and talking into the night. The door did not close tight and had only the lock on the doorknob. No type of security lock for added protection. The room itself seemed kind of clean. However the carpet was kind of sticky in places, and there were cigarette burns in the carpet. The furniture in the room had a some wear and tear. The table was very unstable and wobbly. The room had quite an odor of smoke and pets combined. The next morning there was only coffee available for the breakfast. The owner said she had overslept and was just getting started on making any kind of breakfast. We had had enough of the place and didn't want to wait around to see if breakfast would actually appear or not. As we were loading our luggage into our car we had the pleasure of being watched very closely by one of the residents in the room above ours to the point of them leaning over the balcony to watch what we were doing. Another guest noticed and told us with the comment that it seemed "very creepy". The place all in all seemed like it is more of a low income flop house rather than a motel for travelers. People say you get what you pay for. However, we stayed in three more motels on our trip in the same price range with great results. This was just a bad bad place.
Review 57:I arrived at just after 1 o'clock in the afternoon to a closed office and a sign which read that they would be back after an hour. After traveling all day I wasn't impressed. When we did get in after going away for an hour the office reeked of cigarette smoke. The WiFi just didn't work due to road works. And during the night it sounded like someone in the unit above us was holding a dance. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Review 58:The price.
Review 59:Wi-Fi was weak to nonexistent, stale tobacco odor in room, more stale tobacco smell poured out of the heating unit with fan on, furniture shabby, room dusty, bathroom fixtures old and chipped, and bloodstains on a pillowcase.
Review 60:Staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was large, fridge and microwave included, low rate.
Review 61:Sleeping Ute Mtn needs a major face lift. The rooms are tired, bullet hole in the window, holes in the drapes, old worn carpet, cigarette burns in the bedspreads and bathroom flooring.
Review 62:The manager, Sonya, was so friendly and helpful. The location was great for exploring Cortez and Mesa Verde. The beds were comfortable and the linens were clean. The TV was new and nice. For the price, it was an okay place to stay. It was safe, quiet, and well located. Sonya made homemade cinnamon rolls and beignets.
Review 63:the wifi connection
Review 64:it is close to Mesa Verde where we were hiking, the staff was very helpful and friendly, reach breakfast!
Review 65:Carpet was gross. Given a key to a room where someone was staying. The key fit more than one room!
Review 66:Price
