Reviews for Highland Gardens Hotel
Review 1:Internet was unreliable during our stay.
Review 2:Really appreciated easy walking distance to Metro etc, guest laundry was great and unexpected bonus of free continental breakfast.
Review 3:Beds were like sleeping on a rock, room was very outdated for the price, after spending 700.00 for 4 nights wanted to charge me to print flight boarding passes, not enough parking spaces for all guests the last night we had to park out front on the sidewalk
Review 4:Lobby was very nice, parking area was gated
Review 5:Like most 2 star hotels, there is a musty smell to the room. Not too bad. Bed was hard but sheets were clean. Room was remodeled some years ago. Too bad they skimped on it as the years haven't been kind. Poor tile work and cheaper bathroom/kitchen hardware may have seemed wise at the time, but not holding up very well! For two nights, it was just fine. We were lucky to get a place on short notice for New Year's eve in such a good location -- but the price still felt high for the quality. If you have a tall car, you might not fit in the garage. Check with the hotel before you go as the clearance is really low.
Review 6:If you are visiting Hollywood, this location is great. Just one block from Hollywood Blvd. Very short walk to Highlands Metro stop. Hotel is kind of funky Hollywood. Dressed up in front, kind of shabby in back. Fits the vibe of the neighborhood. Get a room further back as it was quiet there. Imagine the front rooms get a fair amount of traffic noise. We had a one bedroom suite with a kitchen and it was quite roomy. Glad we were on second floor but note there are stairs to climb! Front desk staff was kind of weird -- just sort of "there." But housekeeper was very nice and responsive. (Our room was missing bedding and towels when we arrived and she quickly took care of us -- including providing a real twin mattress for a fold out bed when the foldout couch turned out to be just a normal couch.) Glad to have free parking as street parking looked pretty hard to find! Finally, turns out that apparently Janis Joplin died in this hotel. There's a plaque outside the room she occupied for some years. Not sure if maybe this place used to be an apartment complex. Anyway, no ghost of Janis appeared during our visit.
Review 7:The managers on staff were very accommodating to our needs. The location was perfect for our travel plans. Everyone was very friendly. I am always scared to stay at a new hotel, but this worked perfectly. Thank you!!
Review 8:the room smell of cigarettes, the cabinet door in the kitchen were sticky, the dishes didn't seem clean, the rug was stained and the coffee machine wasn't working, problem with cable
Review 9:the bathroom and the bed linen seemed clean
Review 10:We stayed 8 nights and they never changed the bed linen. Room service was always mid afternoon when we were in the room.
Review 11:Good location and useful favilities
Review 12:Staff amazing ! Walked in and greeted with a warm welcome . Room was ready to check in early which was perfect after the long flight from australia . The room was fantastic i cant say enough how much we all loved it . Overall a great stay thank you ?
Review 13:Dirty carpet. Matress is much too soft, even you prefer to sleep soft. Parking lot is limited. If no more spots available you have to drive around the hotel through a very narrow street to another parking area (forget this with big SUV's. You will come in, but only skilled drivers will come out again). A lot of the guestroom doors have been open for many hours. It was obvious, that guests lived inside, could see their stuff, but they haven't been there. Sudden power shutdown in the morning, bathinventory just broke away,... After complaining nothing happened. Even no discount was possible. Homeless people on the park across the street. You can try this hotel, maybe you will get one of the new, renovated rooms, which should be better.
Review 14:Hotel with history, 5 minutes to walk to Hollywood Boulevard
Review 15:mattress uncomfortable, beds too small for two sharing. all rooms i believe have two double beds. great for couples who don't want to sleep together, families may need to book two rooms. front rooms have a lot of road noise. wet towels left around pool area from eve well into the next day. it feels understaffed.
Review 16:hotel building really quirky. around the pool area is like an oasis. car park under building. stones throw from walk of fame
Review 17:Things were a litlle dingy. Time to spruce things up. For the price it was okay. Cleanliness is important to me and I would rate it below average.
Review 18:The convenience of everything, location, parking . The gardens were pretty. Staff was great.
Review 19:Everything really, the room was smelly and very old, staff don't know what something called smiling. Also there is huge rates in the garden. This hotel is really a cheap motel an I had to stay just because they won't refund me. What a bad overpriced experience.
Review 20:Nothing but the free parking.
Review 21:We found the room dirty, carpet was filthy and over 4 days we only had the bed made once and towels changed twice
Review 22:How near it was to Hollywood Boulavade
Review 23:Breakfast facilities not enough for so many guests, but not tooooo bad. No elevator, luggage was heavy with the suitcases. Squirrels woke us up every mornig, making noise on the roof.
Review 24:Really friendly staff! Perfect location, convienient parking.
Review 25:There's no lift so if you're on the top floor you have to drag your bags up
Review 26:This hotel is in a great location for the Highland centre and walk of fame. It's also a short drive to the griffiths observatory. The hotel itself is nice and the pool is a nice place to sit.free parking is a bonus for this area too.
Review 27:bed was a little uncomfortable.
Review 28:Gentleman at check-in was great. Courteous, professional, good attittude and friendly. Kitchenette /refrigerator was a plus. Pool area was nice.
Review 29:Exterior of building, cracked cement and pool needs to be cleaned and heated.
Review 30:Room was clean and comfortable, felt like a nice appt. inside court yard felt like 1950's Hollywood.
Review 31:very few outlets, & some didn't work. Room had an odor of paint & sawdust. Parking not the best but could use more lighting
Review 32:Great location. Very clean, overnight front desk was very helpful & nice. great price for last minute reservation
Review 33:Doesn't comes with complimentary water. Soap and Shampoo too small, but you can easily buy them at a pharmacy 5min away. Air-con is old and loud.
Review 34:Very spacious, nice bed, comes with basic breakfast and coffee, easy to reach from freeway, easy to park and free parking. Great location, 5 minutes walk to busiest part of Hollywood Blvd, 15min walk to metro. Not too noisy a block from Hollywood Blvd. Very pleasant to relax by the pool.
Review 35:The staff were very unhelpful and it was in need of a face lift. The beds were the most uncomfortable I have experienced. The so called coffee all did was a joke. Altogether I would not recommend this hotel to anyone
Review 36:It was close to some of the attractions in Los Vegas
Review 37:Litter. Also if you are going to provide a microwave, fridge and good cooker, you need to provide the basic accessories your guests need to use them - such as dishcloth, washing up liquid, dish towel.
Review 38:Great location, good pool and suite had good fixtures and fittings.
Review 39:It smelled like pee. Beside the lobby and the rooms, all outside smelled horribly like pee. I think some of the guests just pee in the bushes and nobody cares. No central AC, the room was hot, no AC in the room.
Review 40:The lobby was pretty. That's about it.
Review 41:Hollywood Blvd is generally a bit sketchy, but this Hotel is a haven of security
Review 42:Front desk, garden with banana trees, round the corner from Manns Chinese Theater/ Hollywood Blvd and the shopping center with great restaurants, free parking, great value
Review 43:Dirty stains on the floor, no breakfast package possible (leaving early), ask for a pool view room because of the street noise. No restaurant / bar, impossible to get a beer (only vending machines with soda)
Review 44:Nice swimming pool and garden. Free parking
Review 45:Not a lot of choice of breakfast Had 4 large bags (30kgs) but no lift. Had to carry them up to 1st floor!
Review 46:24hr front desk. Arrived 2am & Front desk was still pleasant! Within walking distance of Hollywood Boulevard
Review 47:The paid computer/printer service didn't work very well.
Review 48:Location is great. Janis Joplin room 105 is an interesting place for paranormal investigators. Large room with full kitchen. Love the middle of the hotel, filled with trees and plants with the pool.
Review 49:Just a short list The rooms are so outdated with the carpet lifting up, the beds where awefully hard, the shower was so small i had to step out of the shower to turn around and step back in, the continental breakfast consisted of muffins OJ coffee toast etc which was ok but there was only 5 seats and its placed right next to the front counter so we sat in the foyer to eat breakfast. The dude on the afternoon shift was very unhelpful and arrogant. Everything was an effort even the next word out of his mouth. Will never be back here
Review 50:The only two things that this hotel has going for itself is the depth of the pool and the closeness to the walk of fame. If you want anything else you would have to go elsewhere
Review 51:Wifi never worked Beds were very old and uncomfortable Air condition does not work properly
Review 52:Location of the hotel is fantastic The staff were really kind and helpful Garden of the hotel was a real oasis in the middle of LA. Parking facilities was so good
Review 53:One of the staff members was not attentive at all and did not have the breakfast provisions out at the promised time of 7am. We were made to wait half an hour to access the simple breakfast which he could have easily put out. He was not at all apologetic. Also the WIFI was unreliable - worked best in the lobby and not in our hotel room.
Review 54:Clean and a short walk from the walk of fame
Review 55:Breakfast was terrible and shouldn't even be mentioned. The WiFi was horrendous and this will make me not recommend this hotel. The staff was uninterested and robotic.
Review 56:Location.
Review 57:We loved being within walking distance of so much, and liked the ambiance of this hotel. The staff were helpful, the rooms were clean and the decor was just nicely retro.
Review 58:The room was large and clean. The kitchen was bigger than anticipated and we were not expecting the free continental breakfast so we were pleasantly surprised. The pool looked inviting.
Review 59:The beds was way to soft, aircon didn't work at all and was to noisy all the time, swimming pool wasn't clean, the water smelled! Breakfast was very poor, the staff wasn't kind and some of them didn't even speak English, the bathroom was very small and the shower was very narrow! No wifi in the room! We can not recommend the hotel!
Review 60:Location is good!
Review 61:The room didn't have a microwave and we kept bringing this up to the staff however they didn't do anything about it. We also asked for the floor to be moped as it was sticky and didn't seem to be cleaned before our stay. The staff also did nothing about this.
Review 62:The room was beautiful!!! It was newly remodeled and was very roomy. Could fit many people!
Review 63:Mold in the shower, the hallways smelled like piss, the carpets werebadly stained everything was very very very old. I was responsible forbooking this for my family and I was so embarrassed that I picked thisplace I will never be able to live this down I was horrified
Review 64:The lobby that's about it - I would rather sleep there than theroom!
Review 65:Breakfast was very average, suggestion, pop to whole foods or erewhon and pick up something you would normally eat.
Review 66:Loved the staff, the pools great, ping pong table was a hit with my son, really great location walk up the hill, have sneak and look out over Hollywood.
Review 67:Everything from the location to the size of the room were fantastic. The staff were friendly and reliable. Free car parking and breakfast were a nice treat. It was only a 5 minute walk from Hollywood boulevard and to the luscious houses of Beverley hills from above. The only snag is the wifi wasn't very strong and there was no safe in the room but this did not hinder the trip at all. Thank you for an amazing stay.
Review 68:Staff was very rude, the breakfast consisted of slices of dry bread, the Internet did not work in the room, the room was very unclean.
Review 69:Location was convinient
Review 70:Breakfast very basic only juice, toast muffin and coffee
Review 71:Very clean, comfortable beds, very good bathroom, great location very handy to Hollywood blvd, great with kitchen to cook food. Nice setting with nice pool
Review 72:Shower was very very small if you are a big person will have a hard time to get in ,also one person working at property at all time .breakfast was very bad small coffee pot small place and have to wait for her to make coffee and take care of front desk. Why they dont spend money to buy another coffee pot???
Review 73:Location was great to Hollywood walk of fame and close to universal studio.
Review 74:Pizza tray for oven would have been nice.
Review 75:The pool, on site laundrette, underground secure parking and only a moments walk from main part of the Hollywood Blvd.
Review 76:The place is rough around the edges, microwave plug worked part time, could have used some better cooking equiptment
Review 77:It was comfortable with a balcony to sit and sun, pool, and the one bedroom apartment was big enough to spread out. The design and landscaping made it attractive, very close to food and a kitchen to use - economical
Review 78:Wifi was free only in lobby and was very weak. The breakfast was very poor.
Review 79:Very good location, just one street from walk of fame and shopps. The hotel was in very nice surrounding with own pool.
Review 80:No safety deposit boxes in the rooms. No individual safety boxes at reception. The only offer given was for me to hand them my valuables, which would be placed in an envelope in their main safe - this I was not prepared to do. Bathroom - water pressure in the shower very weak. No shelves in the shower to place the soap or shampoo. The small bars of soap and shampoo in the bathrooms were never replaced when used up in one day - small things that can very easily be sorted out.If you offer a complimentary breakfast, ensure that there is sufficient bread/bagels laid out and the coffee is replenished when depleted. We arrived at breakfast shortly after 8am each morning and were left with scraps each day - try catering for the no. of guests booked in !!
Review 81:Convenient location with free available parking
Review 82:Wifi is on and off sometimes but it's not big deal for me.
Review 83:Walking distance to Hollywood Blv, staff is very helpful. Our room bathroom fun is not working so he changed room right way with free upgrade to a bigger room. Parking is underground by the building. Breakfast has bagel, maffins, coffee and orange juice.
Review 84:Hot and cold breakfast was advertised - no cooked breakfast included. Hallway smelled of urine Shower was very small and no vanity
Review 85:Foyer was mressive but the rest of the building was tired and old. Allowed us to leave car parked for the day of checkout.
Review 86:Everything, disgusting, this place has not been remodeled since the 80's, dirty, and the front desk manager is very rude and disrespectful. They should charge 50 dollars for the rooms.
Review 87:Not one thing. The tv is from the 80's, the walls have food and stains, the sofa is collapsed in the middle so it is like sitting on the floor, the blankets and carpet have burn holes, and the morning manager is very very rude and disrespectful.
Review 88:The room needed to be painted the carpet needs to be changed the bathroom didn't even have a shelf in the shower.
Review 89:Locations close proximity to the Hollywood bowl
Review 90:first time after many years we could not check out the rooms some hours later even they were free after our stay /it was never a problem in the previous years..../
Review 91:No problem with parking, bit old but still fine rooms, swimming pool, helpful lady at the reception with a long dark hair
Review 92:Wifi wasnt the best. If you visit request a road away from the roadside. Our room was very noisy due to the heavy LA traffic
Review 93:Proximity to the local attractions. Friendly staff. Pool area looked really good although we didnt get time to use it.
Review 94:The parking was horrible, I was definitely disappointed in that. As well as our tv was not working, and although they asked us if we wanted to switch to another room. I declined because i had unpacked and was already comfortable in the spot we were put. And lastly the plumbing sucked. Our toilet kept clogging, our bathroom sink wasnt really running and our shower pressure was really soft. It took awhile to really shower.
Review 95:I really enjoyed the location and how the rooms werw set up. Your so very close to the heart of Hollywood and all the fun stuff to check out. Having an actual bedroom away from a living room and kitchen was awesome,it was nice to have people over since you could have some privacy.
Review 96:The breakfast could have been a little better. The shower needs a serious upgrade.
Review 97:I loved the look and location of the hotel. The full kitchen was a plus. The staff was very friendly as well, and free parking is always good. You actullly meet stars there. We met Rufus Sewell :)
Review 98:The bathroom has no counter space and the shower is original, coffin like and has cracked tiles. There is only one towel bar, and the hook on the back of the door was long gone. The air conditioner was old and noisy. Guests were smoking by the pool and in the halls.
Review 99:The location was great for a short walk to the film festival.
Review 100:15 years old - overused furniture - bad mattresses and smells badly in the room .We paid $200 per night while it should not exceed $30/ day for this hotel
Review 101:Location
Review 102:The kitchen dishes and such could have been slightly better. Didn't really use the kitchen so it didn't matter.
Review 103:Walking distance to Hollywood Boulevard. Very quiet comfortable beds and charming. Staff very helpful. Free parking was a major bonus. Would definitely go back. Don't worry about the reviews about people in the park across the street. There were more people sleeping on the street on Hollywood Boulevard! We saw no one sleeping in the park during our stay.
Review 104:Check in took forever three people were helping people in from of ustook forever. The beds must be original beds so uncomfortable brokensprings , hard as a rock. They are on a busy street noise wasunbearable! The showers are so small had to bend down to wash hair , nocounters in bathroom. The staff was so unbelievably rude.
Review 105:Absolutely nothing!!!!!! I can'T. This place stays in business!!!!
Review 106:the room as kind of falling apart the screen door fell off and hit me in the head a knob fell off of one of the drawers and then The Lamp shade had what looked like blood splattered in the lamp shade so that was a little concerning plus some of the residents that were staying there was very very weird and made us feel unsafe and uncomfortable.
Review 107:the courtyard in the back near the pool was amazing as well as our patio and it was very close to Hollywood Boulevard
Review 108:Kitchen / breakfast facilities were non existent on first morning and quite frankly the staff didn't make you feel that they were overly fussed by that or anything! Of all the places that lacked good customer service, this hotel was the one! Maybe compounded by the fact that everywhere else the C/S was so great. That said the Hotel has a vibe that might not be everyones cup of tea but it made for a cool trip.
Review 109:The place was kind of Gritty. It is not upmarket and the price reflects that. Its a great base which is all you really need if you are staying in Hollywood. Very close to stuff. Parking is a breeze too which is important because you need to drive.
Review 110:The kitchen we had smelled like someone had urinated in it, the window didn't close shut all the way and there was a bullet hole in it, the room my parents got had a a stand up shower barely big enough to fit an average sized grown man, the locks on the door could have easily been unlocked from the outside without a key,the parking garage was even worse with limited parking and very compact parking
Review 111:The staff or clerks made me feel like I was bothering them. when asking a question they were very quick to answer without even looking at me.
Review 112:The view from my room very nice.
Review 113:Maybe I have an unrealistic expectation for an older hotel, but the room was very dark, the carpets had a couple stains, the walls were scuffed and in some places had large dents showing the drywall beneath. There was a dressing counter in the hall leading to the bathroom which had decent lighting, but no mirror. I couldn't figure out the point. The breakfast is coffee, hot chocolate, tiny cups of juice, mini muffins and toast. The front desk person, though quite nice was sometimes hard to find and there was no bell to let anyone know you were waiting.
Review 114:When we walked into the room it smelled clean. I had also been told the rooms had been renovated recently, although not really true for the whole room, it did seem true of the beds. They were fairly comfortable and I slept fine. Also the location is great if you are doing the touristy Hollywood thing. Lastly we ordered room service from the local restaurant. Hot sandwiches were pretty good and delivered quickly.
Review 115:The bathrooms are so run-down. Shower head was pretty lame.Tile old. They are clean, but in serious need of renovation. Maids forgot to clean my kitchen two days in a row. Forgot to replenish coffee. No huge problems. And aside from renovations, all were taken care of quickly and with a smile.
Review 116:The rooms are large, the courtyard is charming, and the staff - from front desk to cleaning crew - is helpful and friendly. The location can't be beat if you want to be near the Oscar venue and all the Hollywood and Highland attractions.
Review 117:I was continually woken every night (3 nights) and early in the mornings by noise coming through the walls, Sometimes conversations in neighboring hotel rooms, sometimes people in the courtyard outside the balcony. I will probably not stay here again because I do need a good night's sleep.
Review 118:Great location for Hollywood, particularly for Magic Castle. Helpful, approachable, and competent staff. Clean rooms, reasonably comfortable bed.
Review 119:Expensive for what it was but you pay for the location ..... And they wouldn't let us check in before 14.00.
Review 120:Huge room with separate kitchen facilities. Free parking. Clean bathroom
Review 121:lots of noise in the room above us always after 9pm I think its nice to put a small note in rooms please be aware of people around you that may be sleeping, we have seen this in many places we have stayed over the years. Also maybe a note re hang towels up if you don't need washing. As you have a major water shortage. We don't have a problem with.
Review 122:Great service at check in and continued to be. Nice to able to make a cup of tea or coffee in your room by reception
Review 123:The room was in bad repair. I'm 5'7" & had to bend down in the shower to get my head wet. The shower head was loose and sprayed in different directions.
Review 124:One of the staff was very dry to people...it was New Years 2015 & He needs to lighten up...most of the staff were top notch & people oriented..He was not! Great maid staff!
Review 125:Most of the staff & maid service...very nice location
Review 126:The bathroom needs a renovation to be a bit more up-to-date but it was clean. The breakfast was not great but very useful as included in the price, the breakfast room is too small though.
Review 127:The one-bedroom suite was quite large and comfortable.
Review 128:Internet didnt work at all in our room. Room could be updated, bed squeeks when you roll over, and the kitchen is great except there isnt many dishes, pans ect.
Review 129:The room is a massive size with a kitchen and a few utensils. There is also a small sitting area for office work. The hotel is only a block off Hollywood Blvd. Location is a 5 min subway ride to Universal.
Review 130:Out-dated room facilities! Aircon not working well in the Living Room, TV unit old model, no aircon in the bedroom, bed mattress cheap, bathroom fixtures not working good!
Review 131:Staff unfriendly rooms very uncomfortable not nice at all
Review 132:Really just the garden outside with its trees the rest, real value of the hotel was really poor for what you might expect
Review 133:Place was dark and rather dump. Way too expensive for what it was. Very noisy air-condition. Not worth the money spent.
Review 134:We chose this hotel because of its location and availability of parking. But I would not stay there again.
Review 135:Carpeted hallway and inside the room. Maid never clean the terrace sitting area. Staff are not helpful and not friendly. Pool is filthy- need cleaning. Bathroom is small with no wall hanger or any rack for my stuffs, I guess it was renovated with extremely small shower room , water pressure is low too.
Review 136:Walking distance to walk of fame and all attractions Location , easy entry from freeway.
Review 137:A bit outdated but that was to be expected for the price.
Review 138:Great location, within walking distance to many Hollywood attractions, Short drive to anywhere else . Parking was free and convenient under hotel in gated garage. Clean room and linens.
Review 139:Chairs had stains but other than that room was clean. Expensive for just a quick overnight trip but great location & nice room
Review 140:The room was large with comfortable beds! The balcony was very nice & definitely got used! Full size fridge. If we were there longer would have used the kitchen. Front desk gentleman was very friendly & we were able to check in early
Review 141:It didn't seem clean but it is an older hotel.
Review 142:Location was excellent. Lobby was fun. Sixties style, probably the same furniture from the sixties. Hollywood hotel with a lot of history, I'm sure.
