Reviews for Anchorage Seafront Hotel
Review 1:Car park very small and used by hotel patrons so it was very difficult to get a park as no parking spaces were allocated to people staying overnight. This meant you had to park on street and carry luggage in.If you entered car park and found it full you had to reverse out as there was no place to turn.
Review 2:Room was clean. Shower was large which was excellent. Location was excellent. Few minutes walk to great restaurants
Review 3:Cafe meals small, crab pasta taste very bland chef needs to taste other places crab pasta. Could not add food bill to room number. - Its a concern when it says in room book must have fan on in bathroom when in shower or smoke alarm may go off and you may have to pay for fire truck, smoke alarms should be updated.
Review 4:-Close to everything ,could walk places. -Hotel has charm mixing old with new. -Balcony room has great views. -Large four post bed. -Beach
Review 5:The 4 poster bed was lovely to look at, but the mattress was either old/cheap & it had an egg crate foam overlay that was about to disintegrate. Not that keen on the 'open' bathroom either. Might be good looking over the balcony when you're in the spa bath, but not that romantic when your partner is on the toilet & you're trying to sleep with only a flimsy shutter between you.
Review 6:A lovely heritage building & we liked that we looked past the Norfolk Is pine & out across the ocean. Also was nice to get the sea breeze, so didn't need the airconditioner running very often. Very convenient to walk to everything in the town centre.
Review 7:its got wooden floors so all you hear is clonking. if you are a lite sleeper take ear plugs and eye shade. the room i had was very bright not only from the sun rise but the out side porch light wasnt ever turned off, and can hear the shower on either side, even the spa in the room above. the free wifi didnt work, or when it did connect it ran that slow so its not worth trying. so if you (like me) need to work while away.. do not use this hotel. the resturant was a little pricey, being on a limited budget i didnt eat there but it was always busy so it muct be great food
Review 8:being a cheap room it was well above my expectations. fridge, shower, basin, tv, fan. the location is a 2 min walk to the towns centre, the staff were friendly.. there is room keeping and if you needed any thing you only needed to ask.
Review 9:The room, especially the bathroom were so small. It was very hard to move around in them. The front outside cafe area (facing the beach) was not clean. My shoes stuck to the floor and clothes stuck to the table and seat.
Review 10:Our room was facing the ocean. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 11:all good nothing to say on this side
Review 12:The team were great, very happy to help room very clean & tidy, close to everything, would recommend you to any body & certainly stay again :)
Review 13:No air conditioning Tv hard to work as batteries were kinda taped into the remote but not efficient...room 14
Review 14:The balcony......comfy bed Second bedroom
Review 15:There was a lot of noise from other rooms coming through. Generally early morning as people were preparing to leave and the room did not have air conditioning. Wifi only worked in select places not in the room we had (Queen Ground floor sea views)
Review 16:Location was Great, Cafe was very good room was a good size.
Review 17:Leaving
Review 18:Very friendly staff, comfortable bed, amazing veiws, well maintained property for the size that this lovely couple look after. More then fair price for what you get. Love the spa! Can't wait to get back there.
Review 19:Room was very small. Shared toilet and bathroom (shower over bathtub) not very convenient. Rug did not appear clean (found earring and fluff on floor - vacuumed?) Facility needs renovation/ upgrade in keeping with heritage value.
Review 20:Granite Island was handy within walking distance. Restaurant was friendly and meals good.
Review 21:Would like beds to be queensize.
Review 22:View View View...staff from front desk to restaurant to cleaners always helpful and know what customer service is about
Review 23:Unfortunately no Christmas lunch or dinner! Not the fault of the hotel either that almost everything in Victor, including the hotel's cafe, was shut Christmas Day afternoon and evening. We took the staff's advice to eat dinner at the Red Orchid, which was open, and got a good meal there.
Review 24:Location unbeatable and food superb. Our room was very comfortable with a great view, aircon and spa. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had an excellent dinner Christmas Eve and a magnficent buffet breakfast Christmas morning. Prices were perfectly appropriate given the quality of the food.
Review 25:The pillows were too soft/flat... easily rectified though.
Review 26:Good service, as we arrived later on Christmas Day and were still welcomed by a staff member who waited for us. Quaint accommodation - a nice change from a motel or stark/modern high rise - and a beautiful wooden balcony and view! A nice surprise to get a separate lounge area... Excellent cafe..fabulous design, and stellar food and coffee.
Review 27:The food was excellent, fresh, tasty and with plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options. It was so good we had dinner, then breakfast and lunch the next day. The room and the bed were on the small side, but clean, comfortable with friendly staff, good atmosphere and a great view.
Review 28:There was no continental breakfast or cooked breakfast so we went to the Victor Hotel which was beautiful. Outdoor setting needs to be replaced because its too weathered. Lots of pot holes into the car park! Not good enough!
Review 29:Bed was fantastic and the spa was fantastic. Airconditioner was fantastic.
Review 30:Breakfast prices are a bit over the top, but there are good alternative options within walking distance. Cleaners started making noise before 7am.
Review 31:Beautiful old furniture. There is just something comforting about real wood. Room was what you would expect for the price, however could get stuffy in summer (no air con).
Review 32:Our first room (14) was directly above the dining room and was very noisy.
Review 33:Our second room was spacious with a lovely view of the beach. Zac the Manager was kind enough to move us to an upgraded room.
Review 34:Disappointed that the advertised 'ocean view suite' (room 28) had an obstructed view due to extremely large pine tree. This room should only be provided to guests when hotel is fully booked and at a discounted rate. Not on a quiet weekday.
Review 35:Good location, room clean and tidy.
Review 36:Everything was amazing from the view to the four post bed. The interior of the buildings was just beautiful with all the lovely old timber furniture. My girlfriend said it was the best weekend ever.
Review 37:we were upgraded to a 2 bed apartment but the facilities were poor: no internet, oven did not work, several light globes did not work, the freezer had not been defrosted and the ice cube trays were broken, sofas and carpet threadbare in places. This suite is badly in need of an upgrade.
Review 38:The location was excellent right opposite the beach. We were upgraded to a 2 bed apartment which, while quite large, had it's problems. The bed we used was comfortable and plenty of linen supplied
Review 39:The bed was terribly uncomfortable. Need new mattresses! Starting to feel really old and unkept. Needs to be updated - new carpet.
Review 40:Great restaurant
Review 41:The bed & pillows were not very comfortable.
Review 42:Closeness to the venue we were attending. Always love the breakfasts & the hours the restaurant is open. Staff are always friendly & helpful.
Review 43:Room was disappointing, no aircon or fan, room boasted of a balcony but it wasn't attached to our room, for the price would have expected more luxury.
Review 44:Location of hotel is excellent, within walking distance to shops etc.
Review 45:Great customer service - friendly and helpful. The restaurant was superb in its atmosphere, menu and service. Great value for money - seafront room for $90 per night!!! with a balcony. Hotel decor very tasteful for its era.
Review 46:Sea view overlooked the bowling green which was a pity as its fairly prominent from the small balcony. No breakfast included. For the cost, I would have expected that.
Review 47:Close to activity in Victor.
Review 48:Vacuum cleaners started at 7am I had just arrived from Perth so it was really early to be woken up, generally the hotel was quite noisy at night and early morning but mostly from other guests slamming doors which is not the fault of the management..
Review 49:Staff very friendly the hotel has a lovely character and location
Review 50:Room on the first night didn't have room for luggage.
Review 51:After we were able to upgrade our room for the second night, we were pleased with our accommodation. Very handy to beach, park and tram.
Review 52:Wi-fi did not reach to room (as in listing) but we were moved to another room which had wifi when asked. Basic rooms were very small.
Review 53:Lovely building. Great location. Friendly staff.
Review 54:We loved our spa room with the view. The hotel staff were lovely and the food at the restaurant downstairs was some of the best food we have ever had, at any restaurant. Also, very reasonably priced for the quality.
Review 55:The Bar had no beer on tap only bottles. You should provide more bottled water in the room and most places also provide biscuits.
Review 56:The location and easy parking
Review 57:The fact that I booked a hotel room for a fair amount and the pictures were not true to word such as having a nice wide ocean view and then getting a huge tree in front of the room and having limited view of the ocean- that room and the one next to it should have those photos included rather than the nice ocean view one's therefore I'm annoyed and the bathroom had mould on the grout/silicone the bed didn't look like the one in pictures and then I approached the staff to move rooms and that was too hard because someone was checking in the following day to that room and also someone checking in on the Friday but it was too hard to swap them around, I then returned the next day to receive luggage left there and I was spoken rude to on the phone and hung up on and I was also spoken rude to at arrival of picking up luggage and I was not happy with the service.
Review 58:That they were happy to refund my money
Review 59:No hairdryer (for her) and it was loud from upstairs. Wifi did not work!! Not much really.
Review 60:The food was terrific and the staff were really good at all they did.
Review 61:Room was not as described There was a balcony but it was across the hall and not useable Room was small and had an unpleasant odour Accommodation staff were efficient but dismissive
Review 62:Resturant was excellent and staff very friendly Good location
Review 63:Had a domestic violence incident (with many visits from police all night and swearing and bashing furniture) in room next door on the second night so quite scared and anxious and not able to sleep.
Review 64:Food /coffee in restaurant comfy bed
Review 65:Rude staff in all areas of establishment. Not value for money. Oh&s violations eg. Serious .electrical hazards. Lack of standard hotel provisions.
Review 66:The ocean view of our room and location were only the only standout features.
Review 67:The bed was very bouncy. Any movement by either partner disturbed the other. Not conducive to a good night's sleep. It was the only thing that spoilt our stay.
Review 68:Centrally located, with great view from the balcony. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely old world ambience. Great restaurant.
Review 69:No WiFi it's advertised as having WiFi but non on for the apartment which was were we stayed also no austar which it also says it has
Review 70:It was big clean and we had a great view
Review 71:The bed was really hard. The noise of the spa pump was a tad too loud. Neither of these would stop us from coming again though.
Review 72:The view was lovely. The Restaurant was great.
Review 73:The bathroom floor gets very wet when having a shower due to flimsy shower curtain and inability to change direction of shower head
Review 74:The location, friendly staff
Review 75:The room was very small and the en suite so small that it was hard not to hit my head on the door when using the toilet. The lights were not well positioned so it was hard to have enough light to read in bed. The TV was positioned on the wall above the en suite door - it was difficult to view the TV from the bed.
Review 76:Location over looking the water and a couple of blocks from the shops, cafes and attractions. The restaurant had a good selection of food and wines Complimentary bottled water
Review 77:Staff warned us on arrival that we might not get good wi-fi reception in our room as signal was stronger closer to reception and cafe. but we got a good connection in the guest lounge, so not really a problem. A fuse blew taking out our (and neighbouring room's) heater and TV set on second night of stay, but staff were working to fix this before I had a chance to report it to them, they kept us informed and quickly got the power back on. .
Review 78:Lovely atmosphere in this 100+ year old guest house. Old style furniture and fittings. But beds are modern, big and very comfortable. Great collection of oil paintings dot the halls and in lounge. Staff friendly and efficient, and good at keeping guests informed. . We had breakfast at their licensed cafe-restaurant. Generous helpings..Good coffee.Seemed a popular spot for other travelers and locals. Anchorage is across the road from the bay, and an easy stroll to what we wanted to see: The Whale Centre, Horse-drawn trolley to Granite Island and shops.
Review 79:Not having an ensite. I didn't notice this when I booked on line. Unusual not to have an ensuite in a room these days. Didn't even think to check that before booking. Also, didn't like the noisy dumpster collecting rubbish sooo early on Sunday morning !!
Review 80:Loved the balcony and its view
Review 81:The walls were very thin and could hear everything the people next to us were doing.
Review 82:Loved the spa bath and the old character style. Was a great view aNd the staff and food were great. It was very clean.
Review 83:We stayed in the cottage next to the Anchorage. It was quite rustic and a little difficult to heat but the bathroom was lovely and the restaurant is very cosy and handy. We would probably stay in the main building next time.
Review 84:Only things I didn't like there was no electric blanket and only a very thin quilt on the bed so I was cold ...and it would be good if some better brighter lighting was installed very hard to see in the bathroom and the dinning room down stairs is also poorly lit other than that a great place
Review 85:Was close to were we needed to go the food served down stairs is amazing we had dinner and breakfast there really nice meals rooms were very clean
Review 86:This is an olde worlde building that has been tastefully renovated that gives modern comfort with that old world feel. Right on the seafront you look out your window to the beach. Beaut ensuite shower in your room was a surprise. And the restaurant is great. Extra great if you consider the decor.
Review 87:View was obscured by a big pine tree..not enough spare towels..no microwave for reheating food or hot milk for bed time. Room was small with no table and chairs inside. Curtain was not suitable for opening balcony door.
Review 88:Loved the restaurant...staff were friendly. Balcony and old world feel. Big screen TV.
Review 89:Spa bathe leaked everywhere although we followed all instructions. Balcony was dirty & felt a bit rickety, the whole extension area is in need of a makeover.
Review 90:Location was the best
Review 91:A little bit noisy during the night, towels were to thin and not enough blankets on the bed. The cost of the meals, had to look elsewhere for better value for our meals. A great big pine tree disrupted our balcony view of the water.
Review 92:The spa bath and lactation.
Review 93:The private balcony wasn't off room. You can't change that, but I would have preferred to have been told that in the online info - I would probably have taken a cheaper room.
Review 94:Dinner.
Review 95:No real complaints. It's a really nice hotel and I'd stay there again.
Review 96:Brilliant location, nice clean and well equipped room, good food and coffee.
Review 97:The only thing was the free wifi did not quite reach our room we where staying in so couldn't use it in there which is where we wanted to or would have mostly use it, but still had access to it when in cafe area ;)
Review 98:Great seafront view, and in walking distance to everything in town centre also Granite Island ;) Comfortable and relaxing place to stay and food was delicious!
Review 99:The view from our balcony was lovely. A central location to the shopping centre. A beautiful guesthouse that has kept a lot of its original features. Coffee and cake in the restaurant was delicious. We would definitely return.
Review 100:Not aware of shared shower and toilet facilities prior to arrival. This may have been our fault but came as a real shock on registration. Couple in adjacent room had violent verbal argument but no action taken by hotel staff. This was most upsetting. Constant water in car park made walking in and keeping clean shoes very difficult.
Review 101:The view
Review 102:Breakfast took 25 mins for scrambled egg on toast and fried egg on toast. Food cold and rubbery. Toast tough and battled to cut it. Wifi kept dropping out which used up our data plan.
Review 103:Comfy bed. Nice view. Close to beach and granite island.
Review 104:The only problem was noise from other hotel stayers coming home late - bit noisy overhead as one would expect from wooden floors of an old building.
Review 105:Loved the aspect from this gorgeous building.
Review 106:Colour dark , air con unit very poor
Review 107:We stayed in the spa suit, the jacuzzi bath was amazing!! Found the bedroom cold and the air con unit very old so it did not really heat the room. We paid $190 for the room, it was very expensive for one night ! But we did enjoy it
Review 108:Access is rather quirky via a narrow path behind the garage and up stairs to the unit - not a major problem.
Review 109:While the unit is not attached to the Anchorage Hotel it is only a short distance away. The unit was very large and had great sea views. It is only across the road to the beach and a short walk to the centre of Victor Harbour, shops, restaurants etc.
Review 110:The shared shower and Lavatory I am not used to, that was about the only thing I did not like the most.
Review 111:It is a very nice hotel old school feeling to it very comfortable.
Review 112:Despite thick walls and heavy wooden doors, rooms not adequately insulated from noise elsewhere in building - not a big issue for my corner room however.
Review 113:Friendliness of staff; character building and furnishings; the upstairs corner heritage room I stayed in.
Review 114:there wasn't anything I didn't like, but if I had say something it would be the bed could have been a bit softer, and breakfast to start a little earlier.
Review 115:the staff are very friendly and helpful. food and menu was outstanding.
Review 116:helpful, co-operative staff period early 20th Century decor ( don't change this please ) brilliant location with view close to train, shops, theatre, horse tram etc quiet @ night opening windows .....yes !! Separate Tables @ breakfast (that's the Rattigan play )
Review 117:The gates to the property are noisy. The steps to the apartment are a bit narrow and a little awkward for carrying luggage up them.
Review 118:Large outdoor balcony. Great view over the harbour. Very spacious and well appointed 1st floor apartment. Large and complete kitchen with every facility.
Review 119:Loved the aspect of the property Really enjoyed our lunch in The Anchorage Cafe and their beautiful fire The reception staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 120:Noise through the night - mainly from very loudly banged 'Night Only' door as other guests arrived and left.
Review 121:Lovely staff Ease of booking and checkin/checkout View from the room Easily accessible to everything else in the town
Review 122:The wifi is suspect at times and it was necessary to go downstairs sometimes to check email
Review 123:The view from the room The food at breakfast or dinner was very fresh and well prepared. All the staff were helpful
Review 124:The ensuite has been squeezed into a room. There is no good hanging space. The entry to the rear carpark is an adventure in itself with the entry with its large potholes.
Review 125:Good location on seafront. Victor Harbour is a nice place.
Review 126:We did not eat in their Restaurant this time so cannot comment on the food or service!
Review 127:The anchorage is in a great spot at Victor Harbour short walk to main street and beach.
Review 128:Our room was very spacious.the bathroom was very cramped and the toilet led straight of the bedroom and had on hand washing facilities. The outlook was very good.
Review 129:THE NOISE! My room was over the kitchen with a very noisy exhaust fan till 10:30pm. There was a lot of noise coming from the restaurant till after 11pm. I had to unplug the fridge because it had a very loud motor. I could hear the neighbour showering through the thin walls.
Review 130:Very affordable and good location.
Review 131:Room was very small and basic (room with shared bathroom). Bathroom had window open all the time so was freezing Balcony was nice. View was amazing. Nothing special but a nice stay all the same
Review 132:The folding bed wasn't very comfortable.
Review 133:This hotel was in a great location with a great view, very relaxing. The staff were very professional and helpful. The meals both dinner and breakfast were of a very high standard, we didn't want to leave!
Review 134:I didn't like how small the bathroom was, or that our "sea view" room had its sea views blocked by the brick wall of the bowling club across the rd
Review 135:I loved that, although my dinner was wrong, they bent over backwards to fix the evening :)
Review 136:Noisy floorboards, especially when people came and went in middle of night. Would have preferred separate balcony instead of one each person could walk past.
Review 137:We stayed in the spa room with a great spa bath, however noise could be heard from the neighbouring bedrooms and the thin glass meant street and sea noise made ear plugs essential.
Review 138:Victor harbour is a great place to visit and the hotel was in a great position overlooking the sea. The food in the hotel was lovely as was all the staff.
