Reviews for Kauai Shores, an Aqua Hotel
Review 1:We,unfortunately, had a room overlooking a stairwell. And no direct sunlight coming in. Might be worth upgrading to a better view. Hard place to find, off the beaten track.
Review 2:Great setting right on the beach. Good restaurant overlooking the beach, nice pool. Rooms/ beds comfortable though very small bathroom and fairly basic. But good to have fridge and access to toaster and microwave in lobby. Free coffee/tea in morning.
Review 3:Private beach is nice...however, no one really swam. It's very rough. But absolutely beautiful.
Review 4:Location from the airport. It was a walk away from another beach further down. The hotel itself was very well presented. X2 pools and beach right there. It was lovely to sleep to the sound of the ocean. As a solo traveller - felt safe.
Review 5:Looks like a compound. Not exactly a swimming beach, lots of rocks. To leave toward airport in the morning, you should exit left then turn right before you get to shell station.
Review 6:Right on the beach. Nice beach to lay on and to snorkel. Staff was super cool.
Review 7:We loved the location, cleanliness, and most of all the funkiness of Kauai Shores! Don't ever change that wonderful "Jetson's" Look!!
Review 8:the 'garden view' was a view of a green fence and located next to the laundry/cleaning service area, which was very noisy.
Review 9:Close to beach. Close to restaurant.
Review 10:Only issue when leaving, front desk didn't send valet/parking attendants to assist with getting items to rental car. We were staying on the opposite side of the hotel from the lot, and were with my mom, my young daughter and had a lot of things to carry/walk out this distance. The guys at the valet/parking were extremely apologetic and didn't get the message. Better communication between front desk and parking/valets.
Review 11:Nice location, beach access, close to shopping and sights.Very chill and low key, nice people and perks. Not fancy, but clean, comfortable and nice property. Valet/parking guys were the best and so very helpful!
Review 12:The bathroom was not clean, I could still see a lot of what was left of my predecessors shaving (even on my second day there).
Review 13:Pool is nice, the Lava Lava Bar is nice as well. Rooms are renovated and nicely done.
Review 14:no breakfast (maybe now there is as a Lava Lava Beach Club just opened during our stay), very small and basic bathroom, staff was sometimes very friendly and sometimes not very motivated but always got our answers
Review 15:good location to discover the island, nice beach, very comfortable beds, big rooms, valet parking / parking is included in the price, Lava Lava Beach Club (nice dinner location on the spot), good price-range for what you get
Review 16:Loud construction noises nearby all day long. Overall not filthy but not a well taken care of property. Inefficient check in (took half hour, 1 person in front of me). Way too many rooms on the property. The pictures are deceiving.
Review 17:Location was decent. Right on the beach although you'll probably want to drive to another beach for a full day visit. Could walk to nearby restaurants as well.
Review 18:Stayed in this hotel the final night of a week-long trip to be closer to the airport. Hotel is under construction, as is shopping center next to it. Parking is a major issue, with insufficient, very tight parking spots. Finding a space was like being at a mall at Christmas. Hotel is very dated, with modest refurbishments - mostly new paint. Many things in disrepair like toilet tank and paper holder hanging off wall. Staff is very noisy yelling down the hall in the early weekend morning. The "view" descriptions are a joke, as most of the rooms run perpendicular to the sea or mountains, making it impossible to have such a view. My "mountain view " room faced the wall of another building. I can't help thinking that they put me in one of the worst rooms due to the low "Booking.com" rate. 2nd floor and better rooms were only available as a paid upgrade. I would not recommend this hotel.
Review 19:The closeness to the beach was nice, affording a safe walk to enjoy the night time view.
Review 20:room service was not consistent with providing enough towels and shampoo. Had to call and get extras, which sometimes was not available. Also sometimes there were not enough beach towels available, which was blamed on the hotel being fully booked!
Review 21:Great location. Not very fancy but sufficient, quite and clean. Free parking and strong wifi. Staff were very friendly and upgraded our room from standard 2 double bed to junior room with kitchenette for free. Having a kichenette was very useful. Nice restaurant by the beach, good food, just a bit pricy!
Review 22:The fan and light would go on on their own, even in the middle of the night. They did not get fixed, even if repeatedly asked. The selection for breakfast was poor in choice and quantity. Noisy
Review 23:The proximity to the beach, the Coconut Market place and several restaurants. Easy access to other parts of the island The friendly parking valets
Review 24:No sign off main road. WIFI in the room sucked. Parking was like musical chairs with two missing chairs. Felt a bit lacking in security. The front desk felt like a hostel.
Review 25:Location.
Review 26:staff at checkin & checkout don't have customer service skills . My room was not cleaned & changed on day 1, I saved my tips left on the pillow. I asked to clean my room on day 2 & left tips on my pillow, there were no soaps given... We stayed three nights . I used the washing machine but some of the powder stayed on one of my shirts , I had to use a toothbrush to get it off on my shirt .
Review 27:Location was okay . Beach was relaxing and beautiful . Printing service for boarding passes was good . DVD rental service was free.
Review 28:I didn't care too much for the noise in the morning hallway. I think someone (housekeeping) entered while i was sleeping, i opened one eye and saw someone exiting the room.
Review 29:I liked that it was very convenient. Fast check in and cleanliness was important.
Review 30:No coffee machine, parking extremely difficult, only Valet parking available- need to pay tips every day. Staff not friendly. Value for the money is very poor.
Review 31:Close to beach
Review 32:This is definitely not luxury, but the rooms are large and clean, the beds are comfy and compared to everywhere else on the beach, the price was fair.
Review 33:Parking was a long way from our room. It was raining hard and we had to carry our baggage a long way, either on the wet and muddy grass or on a path around the back to our patio and enter that way after someone else opened up the patio door from the inside. Check in office/lobby was small and in awkward area. People checking in had to wait in line outside. I think this is probably a temporary situation due to remodeling that was unfinished.
Review 34:Room was nicely remodeled and beds were extremely comfortable. Free movie rentals. When it wasn't raining, it was nice to be able to walk to, and along, the beach. They had chairs near the beach also.
Review 35:The wall air conditioner was full of rust and didn'the work well. I would rather have fresh fruit instead of donuts for breakfast.
Review 36:Location was good but you need a car for this island
Review 37:All was good
Review 38:The hotel location next to the beach was beautiful, looking forward to the new bar next to the beach to open. The garden and the pools were very nice as well, very well kept. Staff was nice and polite. The room was spacious and clean.
Review 39:Well I have not had a bad experience, my only complaint is there is no coffee maker, and no microwave in the room.
Review 40:I like the hospitality and the cleanliness!
Review 41:Check in staff could be a lot more welcoming and give information of available amenities like the laundry room, etc. We found out from another guest during a casual conversation when mentioned that we were packing our wet swimming clothes amd dirty laundry in ziplock bags to bring home and launder.
Review 42:There was a nice comfortanle feeling about the area. Some of the staff was outstanding and welcoming. There was a grill for guest to use at their convenience....awesome! There was also a warm and cold pool (naturally warmed by the sun) that was very cool! It stayed warm for an extended period in the evening.
Review 43:No problems but would be nice to have a coffee maker in the room.
Review 44:Clean, comfy, brightly appointed room, right by beach, friendly staff. Good value for the money.
Review 45:Wifi was a bit patchy from the room but reliable closer to reception
Review 46:they let us check in early which was very welcome! Rooms are nice and fresh and spacious
Review 47:Pastry are not available at 6:00 am
Review 48:When I change our room we wanted a morning sunshine they moved us right away and we are satisfied. The shore is closed to the hotel and we enjoyed walking and sitting w/ our coffee .
Review 49:They list a price then add significant other charges. $15 a day for cleaning room Charge for parking. Resort charges. Obviously congress needs to pass a law concerning truth when quoting prices for hotels and cruise lines.
Review 50:It was convenient.
Review 51:We reserved a deluxe ocean view room on booking.com which we did not get. When I called the office they said to walk out the slider and look to right and "there's the ocean".
Review 52:Clean and close to the beach.
Review 53:Fantastic beach right out the back, dvd rental service, yoga on the lawn 3 times a week,tea/coffee facilities, 2 pools and 2 bbqs plus great sized rooms made this a great place to stay at a good rate.
Review 54:Very bureaucratic checkin. Needed a damage fee authorization, felt they didn't trust me!
Review 55:I liked the beach frontage, casual atmosphere, friendly guests, I made friends easily.
Review 56:The only small thing I had was that I had indicated I would like a king size bed and I got a room with 2 queen beds. Being over 6 ft tall, I really would have preferred the king size, but none seemed available upon my arrival, so I could not be switched. They did ask me to check again the next day, and I did not do so because I did not want to bother moving all my stuff again - so that's on me :)
Review 57:Hotel seemed recently renovated, pretty new furniture. At the seaside (although during this trip the sea seemed to rough to enter the water there). Two nice pools and BBQ areas.
Review 58:Excellent location, beach at the end of the property, 2 good size swimming pools in case the ocean is rough. Variety of restaurants in walking distance. Staff is very accommodating and helpful.
Review 59:Wish they had microwaves in the rooms we had plenty of leftovers. Bit of an ant problem but that's just island life so it's to be expected
Review 60:Extremely friendly staff, unbeatable location for the price. We were close to the airport, in the center to either go to the south shore or the north shore, we never felt far away from anything. There is a safeway just around the corner that's open 24 hours. The staff is friendly and the location very clean. 2 pools and right along the beach!
Review 61:I didn't like the loud A/C An no hot tub an no containental. Breakfast I mean even hotel 6 has got eggs an toast. + oj. Oat meal. Excedera. The shores offered donuts. But that almost killed me cuz I'm diabetic. So bummer
Review 62:I like the walk along the Bch. An swimming.
Review 63:amazing location and great staff. the lady that helped us check in was very kind and helped us by answering every little question we had. Wasnt a big fan of the half hearted attempt on the morning coffee because the woman serving it made it seem like she was doing us a favor. But overall had a great experience and will totally recommend to friends.
Review 64:Unfortunately the main lobby was under construction, so limited access to facilities. No coffee maker in the room a definite drawback.
Review 65:Our king room was clean and comfy, beach front location for walking along the windy shore, and the outdoor pool/sitting area is very nice. Decent location for Kapa'a/Lihue beaches and restaurants.
Review 66:Room wasn't serviced when we opened the door, had to wait 40 minutes. No food on site other than vending machines. Garden view is not much of a view. Not in walking distance of anything really.
Review 67:Great pool, centrally located, comfy bed
Review 68:Paid for deluxe ocean view. If you leaned over balcony around the wall, you could see the ocean. Otherwise, the view was of the construction at the marketplace. At check in, took credit card instead of the cash I wanted to use. Instead of placing a hold like every other hotel does, they charged it completely and virtually wiped out my bank account. Was offered a credit which I have not seen. Will not stay here again. I'll put the few extra dollars into a more reputable place
Review 69:Location was great . Wifi was excellent. desk staff was amazing
Review 70:The check in process took long. But we got to check in a little early due to an available room.
Review 71:Front desk staff were very friendly. They did the best they could with what they had.
Review 72:The car park got very full so i had to park in the marketplace across the road. I was not too bothered but if you had a young family this could be a problem.
Review 73:Really friendly staff, clean and in a really good location. Once the works on the new bar/restaurant are complete it will be a great place to stay. As a solo female traveller i felt 100% safe in the hotel and in the surrounding shops and eateries.
Review 74:The place looked renovated on the photos. Only thing that seemed new wasthe furniture. The air conditioning was working well, but dropped waterlike crazy and looked disgusting on the outside. There is one microwaveand two bad looking toasters for the entire complex. The room wassupposed to be open by 6am. I had to inquire twice to be able to makebreakfast, before we went to the airport. For what they charge they donot deliver enough. We spend 3 weeks on Hawaii and this was the worstone. Cleaniness and comfort is something different.
Review 75:The free dvd rental was nice and the location at the beach.
Review 76:This may have been the worst experience I've had in a hotel or hostel, both with the infestation of bugs and the helpfulness of management. Details (and pictures) are below, but long story short we had an infestation of cockroaches in the room, for which the management was extremely unhelpful and would not even give us a single night's refund. On 08/08/2015 my sister and I stayed at the Kauai Shores Hotel room 221 in the aloha building. We had a room with two full size beds. Although the outside of the hotel is being renovated, the inside of our room looked ok. We ignored the dead bugs in the lighting in the bathroom and dirt prints on the door and door frame, as Kauai is tropical and you can expect some dirt. At 5:00 in the morning on 08/09 my sister woke up to go to the bathroom and saw a large cockroach crawl across the wall between the two beds, which she promptly killed. When she turned on the bathroom lights two cockroaches scurried near the closet. At this point she woke me up and we turned the lights on in the room. Cockroaches were swarming on the cabinet that holds the TV, fridge and drawers for clothes. All and all, while we were packing our bags, we killed 12 and that was without looking behind the desk or in the fridge. We took pictures of the cockroaches to show the front desk. I first went to the front desk on my way to carrying our things to the car and then my sister. The front desk person stated that she wrote down our complaint and that they would bring in an exterminator. We stated that we were only staying for the one night and asked how them taking exterminator would help us? Instead of sleeping we were bringing all our bags to the car in the middle of the night because we were worried there were cockroaches in them. She explained that people sometimes leave food hidden that their housekeeping doesn't find and then they get bugs.
Review 77:Convenient Location
Review 78:Cleaning could be better. Construction works in the back of one of the buildings (not too bothering though). Breakfast is also included in the resort fee but it's only coffee and limited availability of bananas and greasy doughnuts.
Review 79:Good location and nice pool area with beach access. Good wifi (but at the price of the compulsory resort fee)
Review 80:Garden room had a view of a car park and not a garden. Disappointed us. Getting beach pool towels is a tricky operation with same questions bring asked everyone I want a towel. It got annoying. One of the ladies at check in lacks high customer service skills.
Review 81:Loved the two pools. Location excellent for visiting different parts of the island. Recently renovated rooms. Big rooms. Clean. On the beach. Easy parking. Dvd rental.
Review 82:Noisy aircon
Review 83:Great location to visit the island, nice pool and beachfront view. Availability of beach chairs. Good restaurant and marketplace nearby. Speedy wifi and free beakfast (bananas, donuts, coffee and mango juice).
Review 84:Sea view was from patio only, so it should have stated partial sea view
Review 85:Good location nearly on the beach, nice large room, great to get a bit of breakfast. Nice towels for the beach changed daily
Review 86:I wasn't satisfied with the client service. The location isn't good, nothing interesting around. The beach is rocky, I cut my legs several times when I was swimming. "A room with a Mountain View" means a room with a view to the fence", behind which there was actually a view to the mountain, but I saw a fence. Construction area was near my block, it was loud enough. No discounts for that. Expensive. No public transfer from/to airport.
Review 87:Nothing.
Review 88:location is in a little bit of nomads land, there were a few decent restaurants around but you really needed a car to travel into old Kappa town where there was a bit more going one, we didn't have one. The beach is nice but there are lots rocks/reef just as you get into the see so its not too clever to walk on unless you have some reef walkers or something. One day they didn't put up any umbrella's out by the pool due to the 'high wind warning'!! there was no wind that day and it was too hot to sit by the pool with no shade, this took a bit of the shine off the hotel as it took them almost 90min to tell me that they wouldn't put any out.
Review 89:staff were very helpful especially Clarissa on the front desk, she couldn't have done more to help or make sure we had everything we needed, nice hotel will be even better when the restaurant is open. Nice and quiet with 2 swimming pools, the fire pit was a nice place to chill under the stars to.
Review 90:A bit outdated facilities and an overall feeling of cheapness.
Review 91:Pretty good location next to a small, but nice beach. Pretty large rooms and swimming pools.
Review 92:Air condition. I do not understand you Americans, how can you sleep with this noisy airconditions. I couldn't run mine even if it was too hot. Even the one from next room was too noisy. Why din't you use split systems? Filtr device for drinking water is located at business center, that closes at 10pm:(
Review 93:Hotel location is great. We like free caffe, water, ice, and small breakfast. And room is very nice, well equiped. Much above expectations. Tv, playstation, great ventilator, nice bathroom, very comfortable bed, bith many pillows!!!! Great!
Review 94:Lobby facilities were under construction during our visit making parking a bit more difficult.
Review 95:Kauai Shores in Kapaa was centrally located to north and west shore activities.
Review 96:The price is much lower than other hotels in Kauai and Hawaii in general. The ocean at few steps from the room. Nice hotel with two cute swimming pools.
Review 97:Refrigerator a little too small, so we're the rubbish cans. We had a little bit of problems with the shower....The pressure (perhaps because of type of plumbing & hardware) very low, and water temperature would change to extreme without touching handles. We had several rooms booked and all of our rooms experienced this.
Review 98:Location.....on the beach, ocean was safe enough for children to swim and we were situated to where we could drive to all points of interest in timely fashion.....friendly staff. Maybe when construction complete they'll consider more breakfast options, though the kids LOVED the doughnuts.
Review 99:For the amount of the room on a holiday is a steal. Clean, comfortable queen size bed with a patio is awesome. In addition to the flat screen tv with lots of channel to choose from. I prefer this than the other hotels with the same rate. This is my first choice everytime i would visit Kauai. I love this place. Have I mentioned its a beach front property? affordable price with a coffee on your hand watching the sunrise is unbeatable.
Review 100:Wifi signal weak... There is basically no breakfast, only coffee. Next to the hotel there was construction site which was OK if you didn't spend the day at the hotel.
Review 101:Since the island is not that big, you get everywhere within an hour.
Review 102:Too firm bed, tiny bathroom, window AC had a hard time mid-day keeping up with the unusually hot and muggy weather during our visit.
Review 103:Location, great recent renovation, pool, cleanliness, no additional fee for parking, Kauai Coffee in the mornings
Review 104:Didn't feel like a totally private getaway but still relaxing and nicely appointed. A little noisy, close quarters, very evident when your neighbors are sitting out on their lanai, but mostly laid out in such away that privacy is preserved. Bathroom was basic but fine. Parking was very tight. No food available within 5 min walking distance is a drawback (and no kitchen beyond a shared microwave).
Review 105:Facilities and services were just right, and very good value for money on Kaua'i. Beach was surprisingly fantastic but surf may be too strong at times for some to swim in. As a female solo traveller (with a car), I'd totally recommend it.
Review 106:No kettles in the room, tea room is closed in the evening so there is no possibility to make yourself a hot drink. Keep in mind that constructional works are in progress on the territory till the end of the August/September every day except Sundays, from 8 am.
Review 107:The location is perfect, the territory is super nice, the "wild" beach is a great place to sit and relax in the evening with a drink. Room is spacious, king-size bed is really big and comfy. Pool is open from 9 to 10. Tip: Use luggage rack as a drying rack for your swimsuits ;-) Go to Kintaro restaurant nearby.
Review 108:View could have been better. Asked for the "mountain view." Had to lean way over balcony to see them, and was staring at construction zone next door.
Review 109:The staff are unbelievably nice, welcoming, and accommodating! Free wifi and parking, as well as (good) coffee/ tea in the morning, water all day. Use of toaster and microwave in coffee room. 2 pools, right next to Ocean. Like 20 steps from Coconut Marketplace, which has a few cool restaurants/ shops. Bed super comfy. Well kept rooms- clean. The perfect place if you're looking for a great no fuss place at a good budget with a lot of perks!
Review 110:Would love some organic snacks in morning with coffee
Review 111:Love the friendly staff ad hospitality Love the coffee Love the facilities Love the yoga Just overall a great place WONDERFUL FRONT DESK
Review 112:The staff which checked me in was EXTREMELY RUDE. I was given a room which was occupied, walked in on two very naked and very upset individuals. The individuals at the front desk left much to be desired considering employed in hospitality
Review 113:The bed was very comfortable, air conditioning worked, hotel grounds itself was very relaxing with a very short walk to the surf
Review 114:The wifi was strong (4 bars) but could never connect to the internet; the ocean beach on the hotel property was nice for sitting & watching the sunset or moon rise but not for inexperienced swimmers or children (too rough).
Review 115:The room was spacious & the bed was comfortable. The shower was tall enough I could stand up straight (6' 2"). The HDTV & PS3 were nice touches. The refrigerator was convenient as were the fresh beach towels each day.
Review 116:Without a car, it takes half an hour to get to the nearest grocery stores. Well, on this island, you do need a car no matter where you stay.
Review 117:Our experience here was pretty close to perfect.
Review 118:The tub had a fine crack which I reported to the front desk..too bad smoking was not allowed on the porches, instead of walking a distance to the designated smoking areas...No proper signage from the main road, at least the street name.
Review 119:Sitting at the beach & enjoying the sea breeze. The shower was nice, & I loved the toiletries.
Review 120:we loved it all.
Review 121:I loved it all and I am hard to please. Price wad good, very clean, good location. Good free coffee. Pool, right at the beach. Staff flexible if requests. We had such a relaxing time. Thank you guys.
Review 122:Kauai Shores is a special place. It has the vibe of a midwestern 60s style motel grafted onto a beautiful piece of land directly next to a pristine beach in Hawaii. Distinctly friendly, helpful staff and convenient central location with grocery shopping, dining, and easy access to all parts of the island. It is definitely a bargain and we would happily stay there again.
Review 123:Price was higher than quoted on our confirmation (184 vs 149), no breakfast (although it should have been included) available
Review 124:Long reception hours, nice grounds, large room
Review 125:Staff was always there to help and advise, our king size bed was huge and very comfortable, beach just outside the hotel is perfect for morning sunrise stroll or just chilling out in the afternoon....lovely garden with the pool and grill facilities. Free cofee ;)
Review 126:Too bad they were renovating. Also I'm not sure if this would help the with the way others park, but parking lot lines aren't fully visible. Every night there was multiple cars parked in 2 stalls or horribly parked that you couldn't park in the stall next to you. I don't blame the hotel for the way people parked though.
Review 127:We were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. The room was nice, clean and cozy.
Review 128:Parking almost every day full, but it is free for hotelguest, you need a car to get there.
Review 129:Wifi connection fast and included, close to the beach, big rooms, clean, comfy beds, yoga lesson included (boring, but relaxing)
Review 130:Noisy A/C. Windows cannot be fully closed, so poor sound insulation. No elevator to 2nd floor.
Review 131:Good location, caring staff, bigger than expected room, simple but nice decor in rooms.
Review 132:Hardest thing was finding the place. (We were looking for Papaloa St. but should have been looking for Coconut Marketplace. Even then it would have taken a little navigating.)
Review 133:Clean, comfortable and great location. The resort fee includes use of the room safe and free dvd rentals. Decent TV's, pleasant staff, 2 pools, small fridge and large enough rooms. Thought it was excellent for the price we got on Booking.com.
Review 134:Couple instances when communication could have been different- nothing major & as long as we all keep our cool, no problems.
Review 135:The price was right & the staff appreciates you. Living in paradise - two beautiful pools & three beach is a stone's throw away.
Review 136:Wifi was out for days. Cleaning came really early and woke us up, but doesn't return if you leave your room after 11am. Noisy and hard beds. Our last night we had to switch rooms because the water was broken in the entire building.
Review 137:We liked the location. Close to the airport and right on the beach. Close to the cute town of Kapaa with lots of restaurants.
Review 138:cheaper price attracts different crowd. had to complain about multiple other guests smoking cigarettes on patio or by pool even though signed on contract no smoking. construction workers smoking. lots of exposure to second hand smoke.
Review 139:recently renovated. great location. friendly staff. cheaper price. free yoga classes. clean. good coffee. microwave and toaster available.
Review 140:No breakfast... but coffee was very good! Noisy construction but the restaurant will be a very welcome addition in the near future.
Review 141:Super clean and cute. Best beds EVER. Ideal location to sit at the pool while also enjoying the view of the ocean. Could not find a better value on Kauai.
