Reviews for Retro Inn at Mesa Verde
Review 1:It was nice and convenient. We had an issue with our room, but the office quickly gave us another room. The rooms looked remodeled and smelled of fresh wood. Everything in the room was well taken care of. The office staff was friendly and wanted to ensure of needs were met.
Review 2:Breakfast muffins. They were really hard.
Review 3:Nice and quiet. The rooms were nice and comfy. Great customer service. I would come back and stay there again.
Review 4:I liked everything, from the cool lobby (complete with fur phone), to the jumbo chessboard outside, to the soft clean sheets and warm bed. I'll definitely stay here again!
Review 5:The washing basin tap was not working, which forced the four of us to use the bath one instead. We reported it only the morning after our staying as we arrived pretty late and were leaving the morning after.
Review 6:Nice breakfast and good facilities.
Review 7:The staff here were friendly and helpful. Although this is an older property the rooms are fresh and clean with great linens, and had best towels I saw on a three week journey!! Also very reasonably priced, I would definitely stay there again. It was a very pleasant surprise.
Review 8:The hotel portrays itself as a retro ambiance but in fact the rooms are very plain and definitely lacking in comfort.
Review 9:The room was clean and the staff very friendly
Review 10:We didn't have a long stay, but the motel was comfortable, clean, and very accessible to the major roads without feeling like it was a random stop--rather a chosen destination. The owners have been consistent with the "retro" feel, and it is stylistically much like the motels of the 60's, but with 21st century amenities. Nice.
Review 11:A few details should be taken care of: deadlock in room door broken, strip missing in fridge door (bottles will fall out when door is opened)
Review 12:Nice clean hotel with good service. Liked the retro style. Close to Mesa Verde National Park. Ample free parking.
Review 13:Noisy Plumbing. Shower and Bath water running in adjacent room could be heard quite loud.
Review 14:Good size room with parking right outside. Close to all amenities such as supermarkets, shops restaurants. Close to Mesa Verde (10 Miles) BBQ area which we made good use of.
Review 15:The funky, fabulous, style of the place! Each room number is a year (we stayed in 1964), and the rooms are being individually styled to reflect their year, with furnishings and decor evoking the fashions and style of that particular year.
Review 16:This was our favourite motel in our road trip in the US. Not far from Mesa Verde NP. Lovely atmosphere, comfortable and clean room. We loved the chessboard in the courtyard.
Review 17:Nothing to add
Review 18:Large,quiet room, all amenities including fridge and microwave. King size comfy bed. Good breakfast, no hot choice but excellent choice of breads and pastries, cereals and fruit. Staff friendly and knowledgable. Perfect location for national parks. Good value for money
Review 19:Breakfast was mini yogurts and bagels and we asked for smoking room, but they converted all rooms to non smoking. However they have nice set up outside to smoke but would suck when snowing
Review 20:Comfortable beds walking distance to alot of things
Review 21:AC did not work - controls did not function - even when front desk staff came to help. We opened the windows at night for cool air.
Review 22:Lovely retro theme in the lobby and breakfast area and in room numbering and exterior painting. Friendly front desk staff.
Review 23:Continental breakfast and in-room coffee was a bit overstated. It was toast, yogurt and a couple of Keurig packs for non-descript coffees.
Review 24:Nicely and recently renovated with bargain rates b
Review 25:The property is advertised as completely non smoking but visitors can sit outside their motel units and smoke. The smoke can then be smelt in our unit which was unpleasant.
Review 26:The location was excellent and very close to services.
Review 27:Very nostalgic feeling to the place, but with modern conveniences. Rooms have all the amenities, the staff was great, and the kitsch happening here was fabulous. Convenient to a nice spot for dinner across the street.
Review 28:Lovely idea for a motel of this vintage, that is, to take it back in time with decoration and different themes. The service was very friendly and helpful, the room very clean, and the motel was easy to find on the main street of Cortez.
Review 29:It was extremely clean and the decor was clever. We were at the end of a week-long trip and this was the nicest place we stayed by far. Lots of space in the room.
Review 30:I can't think of one negative thing
Review 31:These beds were the best!!! And the pillows were great too. The staff was so friendly and welcoming when we arrived and in the morning the lovely lady was sweet enough to print out directions for a restaurant my mom loved
Review 32:Not a complaint, just a suggestion. It is nice when both sides of the bed have a reading light.
Review 33:the theme. Also the breakfast experience was delightful.
Review 34:Breakfast wasn't very filling. We chose to go to McDonalds for more hot breakfast options.
Review 35:The retro feel of the room with modern comforts. Very cool. Like the motels I used to stay in as a kid.
Review 36:Nice, big room, good bed. Breakfast was also excellent. In front of the hotel is a nice restaurant with terrace. Being on a road trip, it was the ideal stopover between Page and Ouray, close to Mesa Verda NP.
Review 37:There is no crosswalk to get across the street to the restaurant for dinner, so we had to drive across the street.
Review 38:Staff were very accommodating when we asked to move to a quieter room away from the road. Breakfast was great and the room was impeccably clean and newly renovated.
Review 39:The room was clean, though the sheets were a bit threadbare and should not have been used. Furnishings were a bit tired looking but not offensive.
Review 40:The staff were all very friendly and professional. Very helpful when I asked about gluten free items for breakfast. Room was spacious and very clean and I liked the retro theme.
Review 41:Great location, with nice clean rooms and big soft towels! room had a nice size fridge and a microwave. Beds were comfy! Breakfast was simple but nice. several types of muffins, bagels, and bread. Jams,PB,cream cheese, etc. We would stay here again!
Review 42:We were very pleased with the condition of the property. Loved the retro experience and the ability to back right up to your door, old school! Our room was very clean, spacious, and the staff was very friendly, Would definitely stay again and/or recommend for fellow adventurers.
Review 43:Still under construction!! The Way in and Out is crazy and so is the parking. Ask for maid service but never got it. Breakfast is more like a snack. Room was dark and no decorations. I really felt ripped off for the Price I paid. Would Not go back! :(
Review 44:Out of the Several people I spoke to at the desk only on seamed to know anything or actual was able to do anything for me.
Review 45:The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Rainy weekend, they allowed us to put our bags in our room in the morning we checked in prior to the room being ready. Older facility, but extremely clean.
Review 46:We arrived at the hotel at 10pm on a very rainy night, and very tiredafter a 10 hr drive. No one was at the reception desk. They had closeddespite our reservation information which indicated they were open tillam, with check-in anytime after 2pm. Everything was booked in town(being Memorial weekend) and we had no where to go. They did not leaveany information posted as to who could assist us, and no one answeredthe phone number we had been provided on the reservation. Fortunately,Booking.com came to the rescue! The solution was simple, the hotel hadcontracted the hotel across the street to "fill in" for them,so we drove over there, and they were able to give us our reserved roomat Retro Inn. Posting this information (to go across the street toHoliday Inn) would have been a simple and courteous thing to have done, but was neglected. This caused us undue stress and a frantic period oftime sitting in our vehicle, in the dark and raining, trying to figureout what to do for the night... Abandoned it had clearly seemed. My sonis Deaf... Had this happened to a deaf adult (and he was with us alongwith his Deaf girlfriend), they would never have gotten to this solutionsince they cannot "call" to resolve. And TTYs while you are ina car are impossible, obviously, even if Booking.com had this option. This was unacceptable.
Review 47:I still give the facility a rating of "good" since once we gotsettled, an hour later or more, the room was quite nice and clean. Iregret we had no time to try the breakfast, but no one was probablythere for that either. If I knew I could rely on the ability to check-in, I would stay there again most definitely. A very charming andcomfortable place. My family alll liked it. Quiet too. But, doubt Iwould risk it unless you were to before 4pm probably. And no, youcan't easily call in ahead since there is no cell connection on thereservation between "there and there"....
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:We loved the 'retro' part of this hotel and the distance to Mesa Verde National Park. The room was very clean and we had a good nights rest.
Review 50:It was supposed to be "retro," but it just seemed old and very basic.
Review 51:The best part was the conversations with other travelers in the breakfast room.
Review 52:The motel was advertised as newly remodeled; however, our room had a black-out screen (with broken pull-chain), but no curtain which meant that all passersby could look right in from the walk just outside the door. The walls were cinderblock and the floor was large black & white checkerboard tile squares. We felt like we were in a cell and were very uncomfortable after a long day of driving.
Review 53:The grounds were neat and newly planted with colorful flowers. The desk staff was very friendly.
Review 54:While not necessarily a bad thing, the initial description for the hotel did state there was a pool but currently under renovations. We had hoped that maybe the renovations had been complete when we arrived but we found out that the hotel took the pool out entirely. My youngest was not too thrilled about that.
Review 55:I loved the cleanliness of the rooms, the friendliness of the staff, the beds were better than most hotels I've stayed in, and the location to the visitor center was ideal.
Review 56:The room we were in had this 60s/70s fell, which was really cool. The room was huge and nice. Breakfast was great. We had a small problem with the bathroom (noticed practically whilst leaving, so didn't really inconvenience us) and the staff exceeded our expectations in resolving the problem.
Review 57:Clean and spacious. It is comparable to La Quinta and Best Western. Price is affordable. Walmart and Safeway are close by. I would definitely stay again in the future.
Review 58:Everything was great; attentive and helpful staff
Review 59:Convenient, clean, spacious and very comfortable beds! Made me nostalgic remembering the family vacations of my youth!
Review 60:Old but recently updated and so clean and comfortable. Convenient location and close to The Farm Bistro, a great restaurant. Can't say enough good things about this little motel.
Review 61:Internet was sporadic -- couldn't seem to handle two computers in same room at same time; lacked a microwave but was assured would be coming in a week or two, breakfast very minimal for continental, but Denny's right across street.
Review 62:Lots of space in room, great bathtub for soaking -- four pillows on each bed, very friendly and accommodating staff. Love the Kuerig coffee pot.
Review 63:Rooms near the street have some minor road noise, ask for higher room numbers (away from road) if you are a light sleeper.
Review 64:Clean, comfortable, great staff, good value
Review 65:Excellent value for the money. Clean and comfortable and roomy. Lifting the continental breakfast closer to European standards as opposed to the typical budget US motel
Review 66:My husband would have liked some meat, cooked eggs, gravy, etc.
Review 67:Very, very clean. I had to take a bath because of the pristine whiteness of that tub. The mattress was fairly firm and the heat and air worked well. The breakfast had lots of different breads, real butter, a lovely selection of jams, half and half for my coffee, which suited me well. (I had raisin bread toast sprinkled with cinnomon sugar.) Not much meat offered. Postcards cost 25 cents!
Review 68:Stayed here many times over the past 25 years, through several owners. The current owners have done an excellent job of refurbishing and are planning more updates to make it even more comfortable. Convenient location, better than average included breakfast and pleasant and responsive staff make homey motel a winner.
Review 69:Nothing!
Review 70:Friendly helpful staff. Clean renovated rooms with fridge and micro. Lovely continental breakfast with cereal, fresh fruit, bread and muffins, juice etc, - highly recommend!
Review 71:Parents travelling with two large teenage boys, so as this was cheap we took two rooms, and regretted it! The rooms are very big and very comfy , we could have all fitted in no problem. Good breakfast, nothing cooked but plenty of choise, ultra friendly staff. One of the best, and cheapest hotels in our 2 week trip
Review 72:Everything was great
Review 73:From the black and white floor tiles to the comfortable bedding and the soft towels and the delicious breakfast all was great. Don't change a thing. We are going to come back on our return Journey.
Review 74:I didn't care for the black screen over the window.
Review 75:The room was clean and comfortable, if basic. There was a good variety of foods for breakfast, including fruit. Very friendly staff.
Review 76:I didn't like doors to a joining rooms.
Review 77:The room was clean and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever laid on. The two ladies in the front office were extremely friendly. It was really close to 4 corners monument.
Review 78:nothing
Review 79:Everything! Clean, comfortable, single story motel. Great room, lovely breakfast. They even let us fill thermos with boiling water for coffee. BBQ outside for our dinners. And all at a great price.
Review 80:We had one of the rooms that has not been refurbished. Not the best quality for the price. There was a big gap under the door and the windows were of the old metal style so no double glazing to keep out the noise from the highway.
Review 81:Bed was comfortable. There was a coffee in the room but no fridge. Good selection at breakfast which was included.
Review 82:Retro Inn is also “cool” – as in cold! The floor is black & white tiles which look good but are absolutely freezing. Management should look at getting a few funky rugs on the floor. Another silly annoyance is that there is no light switch by the front door so when you come inside you have to walk right across the room in the dark to switch on a bedside or standard light.
Review 83:The Retro Inn has made the most of its 50-60’s motel roots by turning the décor into a “cool” design feature. The bedroom is spacious, fresh & clean and the bathroom is original style but with modern-day plumbing and water pressure. It’s all very well done. There are colourful chairs & BBQ’s outside and a friendly atmosphere.
Review 84:The toilet was tiny. You can hear when loud vehicles start up early in the morning.
Review 85:All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. The room also included a bar fridge.
Review 86:The room was freezing and the bathroom! The wifi didn't work.
Review 87:Good location, we stayed just a night before continuing to Telluride. It's not fancy but it was good for what you get!
Review 88:The room was clean and comfortable with easy access to my car. It is all one story so there was nobody above me. Loved the '50's vibe with modern conveniences.
Review 89:The beds were comfortable. The room was large. The breakfast was above average. It was cleaner than my house. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. We will stay there again. Highly recommend.
Review 90:Noisy heater/air conditioner. The Keurig coffee maker was in a closet - almost didn't find it. No counter in the bath room - but at least it was spotless.
Review 91:Property and room were well-kept. Staff was very friendly. Tremendous value for the cost. Had a king-bed room with tile floors. Don't know about the condition of carpeted 2 queen-bed units.
Review 92:Love the older "retro" motel. The rooms had new beds, carpet, bathroom flooring, tub and surrounding; essentially quaint "retro" motel with new accommodations. Office staff was very nice, good basic breakfast included.
Review 93:The entrance was not that obvious the first time, could use more signposting. No on-site laundry.
Review 94:Friendly and accommodating staff (every one of them that I met) and on the first night the girl was really nice and came back even after I had checked in and she had left for the night, to give me a new room because some of the lights didn't work (and she was super cute :p) Beds you can sink into. Very clean. Close to the main road. Breakfast didn't end too early. Strong and fast Wi-Fi. Good soap.
Review 95:Needed extra blankets as heater wasn't adequate. They gave us the unit closest to Main Street so we heard traffic noise. Hot tub was closed; room doorknob lock was pretty funky, bathroom clean enough but very tiny.
Review 96:Looked like it in the midst of a cute makeover. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Good location for seeing Mesa Verde.
Review 97:Room was cheap due to off season. Not sure sheets and shower were cleaned at all. Hair everywhere. Shower head too low for a man to take a shower. Room was 55 degrees when I stepped in. Draft from outside. Not very private.
Review 98:Location. Staff.
Review 99:Rooms are a bit dated and might turn some folks off. Breakfast was OK. For us gluten intolerant folks something other than rolls, buns, toast, etc. would be helpful but this is about the same as other venues.
Review 100:Clean rooms, nice shower, thick fluffy towels, nice staff. TV and Wifi. After leaving Cortez I spent the night at a Best Western in Durango. Up to date but....skinny towels, cold floors. I liked my old dated Retro Inn better. Best bang for the buck.
Review 101:The 3 nights prior to staying at the Retro, we were at a $500 per nightcasita in Santa Fe.so I was worried about what the motel would be like.I was extremely surprised and would definitely stay there again. Theyeven provided a snack bag when we checked in, breakfast, and puffy bathtowels. This motel is a gem!!!!!
Review 102:Everything was actually fine and dandy. No complaints.
Review 103:Good value overall. Our room was not incredibly retro, but it was nice nonetheless. Lots of hotels in Cortez, but this one distinguished itself with just a little character. The Keurig in the room really made it for me. Love those things.
Review 104:Toilet was clogged on arrival, instead of another room, they brought ME a plunger in a plastic bag. The people in the room next door were selling Meth all nite, and at least 10-12 cars showed up during that time. The girl asked me as we were coming and going if I wanted to, 'party'. We left that morning to find better lodging. Would NEVER recommend to anyone.
Review 105:The sign.
Review 106:The wi-fi was very spotty but by no means a deal breaker. We had trouble in the whole area with 3G but that can also be a blessing :)
Review 107:What a great find. The rooms have been renovated and beds are great. Rooms were new, clean and comfortable and the value was EXCELLENT!
Review 108:i love how the place is 7-8 miles from mesa verde national park. the place is quiet & clean - I love how friendly the staff were and very accomodating. The Bed was very comfortable. I will definitely re-book
Review 109:There was no weather proofing around the door to our room and the temperatures dropped significantly during our stay; but thankfully the heater worked really well.
Review 110:This establishment looks like many of the others in Cortez, but I was quite pleased to discover how exceptionally large and clean the room was. The Retro Inn has been remodeled and it was a most pleasant stay. We were in town for business meetings over the weekend and we truly enjoyed our stay. The staff was courteous and friendly. The breakfast was substantial and tasty. The temperatures dropped rapidly during our stay and the heater worked extremely well. We have no complaints at all. Thank you for being our choice of a great place to stay. We now know there is an establishment in Cortez where we may reliably stay each time we visit.
Review 111:The rooms weren't retro and the building is white, should be colorful. If they were going to do a remodel they really should've done the theme. Would've been so unique and awesome and they could charge a lot more. I would pay for a 60s styled room, no doubt. It was like every other hotel room, but it was nice and very memorable.
Review 112:Hotel sign Lobby Breakfast area Clean, nice rooms Parking in front of room with more space than a standard space
Review 113:Arrived at 6pm but Reception was unmanned so went for a meal and checked in later
Review 114:Friendly staff looking after breakfast arrangements Good value considering the facilities Handy for Mesa Verda NP
Review 115:No microwave in the room.
Review 116:Location. Near Mesa Verde National Park. Parking right in front of the room. Restaurants and stores nearby. clean room and bathroom.
Review 117:Excellent staff, value price, large room with wifi, microwave and mini-fridge, flat screen TV, hair dryer, and free breakfast. The only reason I didn't rate the property as "excellent" is because for some people, "excellent" would mean a 5-star hotel. This is motel with exterior doors but it's very safe and I think travelers will be very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the rooms and the excellent service from the staff.
Review 118:surprisingly nice place!!! we arrived late evening and left early morning... the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was really good, location is really good to reach mesa verde!
Review 119:Wi-Fi was poor with little connectivity. Once I got on line, it was at dial-up speed. First time I reported the problem, the staff said, "Yup" and did nothing. The room book said hot tub, but it was broken and disconnected. My wife was sad.
Review 120:Great access to Mesa Verde. Clean and comfy room.
Review 121:wifi could have been stronger but was able to use internet for most part
Review 122:I had a large room, motel was renovated and looks almost almost new inside in great condition, quiet stay and friendly staff, biggest variety of bread I have encountered at any complimentary breakfast, would stay again
Review 123:The feel of the sixties updated. I had forgotten how convenient it was to have your car parked right outside the door. The old family motels had something going for them. The Retro keeps it up. Maybe more will make a comeback.
