Reviews for irisHotels

Review 1:The reception is at the other end of the building from the entrance and there is no security whatsoever leaving anyone walking in from the street with access to the building. In the short time I stayed, my door handle was tried twice. No flexibility with check-in time ("come back at 2pm") and very young staff with only basic English. The room with a window turned out to be a 20cm square fixed porthole at ceiling height rendering it useless, so very misleading advertising, although it let in some light from the city at night making it impossible to keep the room dark. But to keep to the style, the tv was as small also. Walls are paper thin and the noise from around was disturbing, as was the constant drone from the factory across the road. I left after a few hours for a real hotel for a few euros more. If you only need a bed out of desperation before catching a train then okay...but for a stay of a weekend or longer, this is not a good option.

Review 2:Still my favorite non-bank-breaking hotel in Kyiv, despite construction that never seems to end (but then, no one in Ukraine is ever in a rush for anything except the metro). Always reliable, and the staff are always helpful. Location can't be beat. Probably forever going to be my staple when I'm in Kyiv, which seems to end up being a lot, because I just love Kyiv so much. I can only imagine this hotel will rise up into new heights when the construction is finally finished and their restaurant is running full-speed. Certainly worth a stay.

Review 3:My room was freezing cold. There was an extra electric radiator but it didn't help. Shower head was broken and when having a shower water sprayed all over the place!

Review 4:A couple of things that could be improved: - I had a mini-fridge in my room, but it wasn't in working order. I have asked if it could be replaced. I got told that I could store my stuff in a fridge in a lobby-bar, but my fridge wasn't replaced. - If you want your room cleaned, you need to put a sign outside your door "Service Required", otherwise it wouldn't get cleaned!.. It was a bit confusing, as in many hotels it gets cleaned daily anyway.

Review 5:Nice, warm, clean room with flat-screen TV. Friendly staff. Convenient location. Very good value for money!

Review 6:Our room was very small and had no window, but for one night and for that price - it's Ok.

Review 7:The price is not bad. Location is also good - two subway stations and railway station in 5 minutes of walking.

Review 8:Poor ventilation because room has no window (I booked room without window because of cheaper price, but I won't do it anymore)

Review 9:Location - 5 minute walk to train station

Review 10:Too thin walls, too much noise as we heard everything like neighbor's steps, water flow, etc.

Review 11:Overall felling is good: everything is clean and new. Very close to the railway station.

Review 12:A weird rooms enumeration system. There are rooms 401 - 415 and rooms 1 - 10, so two groups of rooms on the 4th floor. And the rooms 1 - ... are difficult to find, the way is not signposted! So you may think that 402 is 2 and try to open it. The way through the balcony from the reception in the 3rd floor to the 4th floor. The residents can use this balcony too, once I met a kissing couple there :) Or you take the lift from 3rd to 4th, which is used by residents too, it can take time in this 14-storied building. Generally, the use case is more for the locals, close to the railway station, but it is not a touristical area there.

Review 13:The room without windows, which I had booked, was ok and even quiet.

Review 14:My bed was not comfortable.my bathroom..my tab is bigger than my tv..more like tv for a car than bedroom..well just okay for what I paid.

Review 15:Love the location.close to the train station

Review 16:A bit hard to find the first time, but if you take the time to learn even basic Russian (which you should do anyway if you're visiting the Ukraine, out of courtesy) you can easily ask for directions.

Review 17:I arrived in Kiev in Zhulyany airport and walked to the hotel, which took about two hours with a huge backpack. When I arrived in the hotel, the power had been knocked out by construction down below. I was offered a room on the ground floor for a surcharge because my room was on the 14 floor. My wallet had been stolen in Wien, however, so I declined and told the woman that I would just walk up the stairs because I had already walked all the way from Zhulyany and I had already paid for the room. She looked at me like I was crazy and told me to wait. I did. When she came to get me and walked me to my room, lo and behold! They had given me a room on the third floor anyway, because she felt bad that I had walked so far. How wonderful after that rough journey!! Everything else was great, too. Nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

Review 18:On the dates of our stay, the lights got off at around 4.30 p.m.: it was pitch dark, no heating, no Wi-Fi connection, no hot water, no tea/coffee. The lights remained off till we left the hotel the next day at 11 a.m. to find another hotel. The staff did not provide any explanations, no transfer to another hotel was given, no money return was offered. It was the most "memorable" stay in the Lux suite I have ever had!

Review 19:Close to the Central Railway Station.

Review 20:If I was picky, the walls were a bit thin. First night the couple next door were being passionately and sexually noises. I needed earplugs but would have preferred making the same noises:)

Review 21:Staff was great. First night the power was out but the staff was cheerful and accommodating. We even had candles:) Rooms were cozy and clean. Very convenient to train station. Price was excellent and rooms were small but good.

Review 22:Very pure noise insulation. It's a part of bulding under finishing stroke. Thus, you hear all around - even phone conversation in next room.

Review 23:Location value for money

Review 24:The hotel charged me at arrival and charged my credit card - this is grisly dishonest Still no refund as I did not keep the receipt.

Review 25:The location was just a jump away from the train station.

Review 26:Perfect stay. Staff were impeccable. Superb value for money. I stayed in both types of room- with and without window, and there wasn't much difference between the two. Could imagine the windowless room being stuffy in summer though.

Review 27:Staff extremely trustworthy. I forgot my shirt in my room when I checked out. Checking in the next time my shirt was in the lost and found and I got it back

Review 28:The first night, I have a few issues with internet of the very top floors

Review 29:This is my third time at this hotel and its always nice. Really friend staff. I guess I keep coming here because of the staff that work there

Review 30:Room 407 has hard-tile-over-concrete hallway on the other side of a thin bedroom wall, so that every woman who walks down that hallway at all hours of the day or night (3 AM, 6 AM) makes clip-clop beside your head as you lay in bed. Also, all talking or yelling could be heard. Bed has line of broken springs straight across the bed at hip level, stabbing you as you turn over, unless you use one of the blankets as a mattress pad to lay on. // Room 319 was quieter, with carpeted hallway on other side of bedroom wall at the foot-end of the bed. Loud talking in hallway could still be heard, and this bed also had a line of broken springs straight across the bed at hip level. I had to sleep on a doubled blanket, again. --Les, USA

Review 31:When Room 407 turned out to be too noisy to sleep, the staff graciously moved me to a quieter Room 319 for the remaining 2 nights of my stay. // Very close walking distance to Kiev railway station, Kiev Metro station (Vokzalna), supermarket, bus station (secondary, not the main station), Sky Bus shuttle to Kiev Borispol Airport, and restaurants (Puzata Khata, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's, etc.). // Room 407 had its own water heater, so it had reliable hot water at all hours. Room 319 had no water heater, but hot water was still reliable at all hours.

Review 32:When you have 20º of temperature it is impossible live inside one room without windows and without aire condicion.. This room is good for winter, but summer and sprint or when is hot day u can day

Review 33:Be careful, there is an option 'room without a window' that I didn't notice. Ventilation in such room is absent completely, it may damage your health or at least your mood.

Review 34:You wait for very long time for the elevators, your room dont get cleaned up everyday.

Review 35:Wifi is working good. You get 15 % discount at the restaurant Mon Cher that is near the hotel.

Review 36:Everything is great! I recommend! Nearby there are places where you can eat delicious! Not far away there is a beautiful botanical garden! Very friendly working staff! The hotel has a cool cafe! There is internet in the whole hotel! Everywhere there is air conditioning! Nearby is the train station!

Review 37:I booked room without window thinking that it will be ventilation. The room gave me was with sealed window and without ventilation. Not possible to stay. I upgraded paying different and I took room with AC and window which can be opened.

Review 38:Hotel is clean, good location if you need to take train, staff friendly and efficient.

Review 39:It is really interesting hotel, it looks like labyrinth. You need to cross at least 5 doors to reach your room and it makes you nervous .. I stayed in that hotel with my parents , if I went alone , I propably ignore to stay in this hotel after passed to many doors with an escort.. It doesn`t have A/C. Internal air condition is not enough.

Review 40:Location

Review 41:Breakfast is misunderstanding. If you want eat simple sandwich, there is high probability that they don't serve sandwiches on that day. It's better to eat outside.

Review 42:Location and staff is perfect. Close to mall, subway and airport buses. Rooms are small but clean and walls are quite soundproof.

Review 43:- The room was w/o window (I knew it while choosing) and it's a bit stuffy

Review 44:+ Location is good - 5 min walk from the railway station + WiFi is good as well + Nice hotel interior

Review 45:Dusty floor upon check-in. Maids apparently do not mop cleanly.

Review 46:Rented "Double Room Without Windows." I was given Room 402 (fourth floor), which was a lot better than previous stay in Room 1413 (14th floor). Room 402 had everything, including bathroom basin (unlike 1413). Good Wi-fi. Good bed. Front desk is on 3rd floor, so entrance to room is semi-private.Hot-water heater is right there on the bathroom wall, above the basin, so you know your hot-water supply. Good closet with shelves for unpacking.

Review 47:The metro station is far away, the heating in bathroom and air conditioner doesn't work at all - this is quite uncomfortable.

Review 48:I'd like the cleanliness and silence, nobody had disturb us.

Review 49:Room 143, 14th floor. The bathroom has no basin! The only water is the shower faucet. If you want to shave, you look in mirror, then must turn 180 degrees to reach into the shower cabinet for water! Hotel and web site do not warn you about this!! Also, dirty entrance through hallway construction, then the room has bare floors without even a door mat, and the hotel does not provide (those disposable paper) slippers. So, when I got out of the shower, I had to slip on my shoes, to walk to the bed.

Review 50:Upstairs on the 14th floor, they have no heat radiator. So, they provide a plug-in heater. This was actually a good advantage. The vast majority of their rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors have a heat radiator that does not work.

Review 51:No room keeping during my stay for 3 days.

Review 52:The hotel is in a walkable distance from the Kiev main railway station. It costs less than other hotels. Wifi signal and speed are good. Its staff is kind and helpful, speaking English. A supermarket and restaurants are close to the hotel to get something to drink and eat.

Review 53:Wi-fi does not work at all in room, staff does not speak english. In upper floor they renovate and all day dril and hammer hit. the rooms have no soundproofing, the bathroom is very cold because there is not any heater. They do not care for turist at all . The most of clients were locals. the staff is young girls (probably internship trainee) very unhospitality. The room was cold and i order to give me an extra heater. i will not suggest to no one, from europe or USA.

Review 54:It was near to railway station, but this is not good because the area is not for turist.

Review 55:Booked the hotel for a 5 hours stay to get some sleep before my next flight. The hotel/building was under construction and I got a room very close to this work... But you get what you pay. Hard to find the hotel and the entrance.

Review 56:Location and price

Review 57:I booked room without window. I only needed place to stay 1 night, so figured I ll be fine without window. Room was so tiny! Smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Which wouldn't be a big problem if it wasn't hot in there. I stay there in February, so they had heaters on and it wasn't possible to adjust temperature on it. So I end up sleeping with open door.

Review 58:Location was ok. Staff is ok.

Review 59:There are a lot of construction works in the same building, so the way to the hotel is not very clean.

Review 60:Location. If you need a hotel next to railway, this is the best option.

Review 61:Room very small and noisy with repairs in other rooms. No refrigerator, no telephone. Price for Booking com is the same as for any client who arrives.

Review 62:I have liked only that it is a good position.

Review 63:There was not enough of hot water to take a shower for both of us, so the 2nd person finished showering in cold water...

Review 64:I had a superior deluxe room, so everything was really good, positive about it.

Review 65:There isno enough kitchen tools

Review 66:That hotel destination so near to central train station you can find by walk just three minutes you will find relax with out any problems the stuff are really help full also there is a bar girl her name is Sahsa shes really so cute and loves to help

Review 67:Do not know what was superior in this room it was a standard room sold as superior. The lift was always blocked by the construction workes at the the upper levels. The room was too cold, the heating did not worked well.

Review 68:friendly staff, not expensive, near the train station

Review 69:Too basic b-st, cheap but you will get not much even for this price. It was not freezing but quite cold in the room. The building is still in progress of construction, so, expect construction work sounds during daytime and dirty elevators. Not easy to find the entrance and the way from the street is quite dark and challenging. I would expect normal shower tube in the hotel but not a shower area with curtain. Having tea facilities, a kind of a table and chairs in the room would be beneficial as well. Very thin walls - you will hear many things from nearby rooms ;)

Review 70:Location - 8 min from train station and 10 from arrivail place for skybus. Polite and responsive staff. Value for money. Good wi-fi. recommended for good overnight sleep or connections. Will stay again for these purposes as very strategically located. After removal of cons may be considered for other purposes. The entrance is from the opposite side to the station. Keep the building in your right hand. When going back from the city you may exit Universitet metro station and walk through the park downhill to avoid dirty train station. It will take 5 min more.

Review 71:The building is still under construction, the hotel is on the 3rd floor, you can hear noise coming from construction works

Review 72:It's conveniently located in walking distance from the train station and tube station

Review 73:The building is new, so a lot of noise from construction work. It is impossible to be inside during the day. It was very cold, because there is no heating. The room is not being cleaned, unless you pay extra. Also, the room was not equipped with all the necessary items that are usually present in hotels. Service is absent and personnel are vey rude and unprofessional!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 74:view from the window

Review 75:Very hard to find, as the entrance is not on the street. no access by taxi in the night time as the passage is closed. Much noise heard from the other rooms.

Review 76:Close to the train station, very clean, hot water and wifi 24h

Review 77:Rather hard to find the entrance. No heating in the building when we stayed and they don't provide additional heater. No sound isolation - we could clearly hear each word said by neighbors.

Review 78:The location is good. Staff is friendly. Acceptable for one night stay. Wifi works good.

Review 79:It was hard to find entrance in darkness, very confusing. Room was cold tiny, badly stained carpet. Uncomfy bed, poor shower, no kettle, cup, teas. Don't expect anything basic that budget hotel usually offer but if you just need a bed to sleep over that will do Would not ever stay again or recommend

Review 80:close to train station

Review 81:If one of your neighbours listens to TV/radio you will defenitely listen to it too.... The isolation between the rooms is really poor. But I slept well because I used earplugs

Review 82:Good location and value for money, good breakfast available (porridge and tea) for 1.5 euros. It was my second stay in this hotel and I would stay here again

Review 83:It was quite hard to find the entrance since you need to go from the back door, which is not very easy. The staff was not so professional and don`t really care about the guests - had to wait until the receptionists deal with their personal problems and then will show the room. The only minus in the room was absence of slippers, which was rather uncomfortable because of the cold floor without carpet. It was OK for one stay, but for next time I would not prefer to stay there.

Review 84:Location of the hotel is great - close to the train station, just 5 mins by foot. The room was good, clean and comfortable with all the necessary equipment.

Review 85:Hard to find Staff very unproffesinal and rude. You can hear conversations from next rooms and corridor. Rooms look like at least 20 years old despite being in new buildind Fixing bracket for shower head clued on some silicone came off and hit me in the head when i took shower in the morning. I did not bring up this because was late for meeting, but they wanted to charge me FOR CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PROPERTY !!! After brief few hard words and explanation that i can actually take them to court for causing damage for myself, they said " ok you can go" ! Thats it , not even simple "sorry". Whigth after me another guest didnt want to stay in the room he booked and demanded money back after he seen the property. I have stayed in many budget hotels (thinking why pay more for nights sleep) but this one is worst i have seen . So please avoid at all cost!!!

Review 86:Close to train station

Review 87:Not easy to find a market nearby. So, when I was thirsty and wanted a.5-L. bottle of water from the fridge case by their breakfast room, theywanted an over-priced 12 uah for it. Not human enough to give a thirstyman a drink of water. Room cost 370 uah, compared to Khmelnytsky'sHotel Tsentralny which charged 170 uah for similar room but included 2free bottles of water in the room each day. So, if Hotel Tsentralny is a"10," IrisHotel is a "3."

Review 88:Close walking distance to Rail Stations, so travel to other Ukrainecities or to Kiev Borispol Airport is easy. Mon Cher restaurant nextdoor, or Puzata Khata restaurant on the other side of the train station.

Review 89:Hotel is located in appartament building that is still being built. Consequently environment as well as premisses were really dusty. The room was not very clean either. It is pretty difficult to find hotel entrance as well.

Review 90:The hotel is located near the main Kiev's train station as well as metro stations.

Review 91:Difficult to find - They have a good map on the back of a business card - they should send that map to everyone who reserves a room

Review 92:Price, location, staff

Review 93:The renovation work continues in the "Elegant / Iris Hotel" causing noise and dust as well as long waits for a lift. Patchy internet reception on 4th floor which meant sitting in the 3rd floor café to use the internet on some occasions.

Review 94:Staff friendly and spoke English Easy walking distance from metro and main railway station, various restaurants and Eko supermarket (near railway station).

Review 95:Finding the hotel is difficult, the breakfast was only like cold cereal, the WiFi connection didn't work well.. most connection points didn't work and then it ran very slow on the ones you could connect to (very spotty on the connections that could be made) Renovations are very noisy... 7am on Saturday morning they were working (hammering, sawing, etc) already.

Review 96:price was good, location was good, some of the staff was very helpful, bed was comfortable, room was good size (had a deluxe room)

Review 97:Electricity cut at 23:00 h. which got rid of: the humming sound in the room, lights, water, breakfast in the morning and elevator. No assistance, no back-up generator. Fortunately it is only on the second floor. Hotel and entry is a bit difficult to find. Signs on the paveway help.

Review 98:Cheap, clean, friendly staff, beautiful bathroom, walking distance to main railway station. Perfect short stay location. Construction on other floors ongoing. Respect for the brave entrepreneurs who run this little hotel in the middle of ongoing constructions on other floors.

Review 99:There is still renovation in Progress. You wake up in the morning with the sound of a Hilti Drilling-Hammer! Beside this, the walls between the rooms are extremely thin. I could listen to my neighbours phonecalls... Not easy to find in a backyard.

Review 100:Room and WiFi is ok.

Review 101:Construction in the building and in front of it, in September 2014, made the building entrance and elevator area to be dusty. Hotel had two small elevators, sometimes slowed by apartment dwellers. Rinky-dink breakfast for $2 at hotel -- better to walk outside, down to the Mon Cher restaurant.

Review 102:Cleanliness of room's carpeted interior. Helpful staff, who helped me put talking minutes on my Ukraine cell phone, and gave me good directions in English. Location -- take city bus "marshrutka" from Kiev Airport to Pivdenny rail station, then walk through Pivdenny station over/under the tracks into the Central (Tsentralny) intercity rail station, where all of Ukraine is available by train. Out the front door of Central rail station, 200 yards straight ahead down the hill to Zhulianska Blvd., cross the blvd., turn right 50 yards and look for "Mon Cher" restaurant (which gives 15% discount to IrisHotels guests and serves great food and drink at fair or low price, like businessman's lunch for the equivalent of $3.25). Walk up the dusty alley to the right of Mon Cher for 100 yards. Turn right, narrow between buildings, go 50 yards and look to your right, for the hotel entrance. Entrance faces uphill, away from the blvd. The check-in desk is on the third floor.

Review 103:The hotel is the first 2 floors in a giant new 31 floor high building.Constructions are beeing done in the building, almost around the clock. If you want to sleep late...that will be a problem. Drilling startsaround 9. After a week you get used to it. The hotel doesnot mentionthat on their website. Nor does Booking.com

Review 104:The location is close to train station, near metro, rooms are clean, nice matrasses. Tv, airco. Hotel is located in quiet area.Girls inreception are nice

Review 105:Sooo loud from construction in this building, in the morning impossible to sleep. From the entrance starts construction rubbish and dust.

Review 106:Clean, close to railwaystation. Everything is working.

Review 107:Hard to find. Noise from neighboring showers. The building is still in construction phase and construction work noise. No daily bed making and change of towels. Slow lifts.

Review 108:Best bed in my two month stay in Ukraine. Close to railway station. New facilities. Good strong Wi Fi

Review 109:Warning: The hotel is not at the place they showed on the map! Be careful with that. You'd better get a local number to ask the reception desk how to get to the hotel.

Review 110:Poor room service though. For instance, my room was not cleaned thefollowing morning after I left and came back hours later. There was noroom telephone

Review 111:I like most of the things about this hotel.

Review 112:A bit difficult to find the hotel's building despite the signage on the sidewalk

Review 113:well located hotel near train station, clean, bar service always open, good service in a foreign language

Review 114:for 1 week nobody come in my room for clean room and change towel shower. I did buy toilet paper in shop because they never come in my room for do this. Need be more attention the personal when you arrive in hotel, is one hotel no one hostal. the structure is always in contraction, so you must go in 3 level with the stairs, without light, and all dirty for working of costruction.

Review 115:the rooms are new

Review 116:Very small room. I booked a double-room and it was small for 1 person. My room needed renovation and at least some friendly décor (it’s just walls and bed)... even though the room was clean. It's not difficult to find the hotel if you look at the map in advance (see the hotel's website for details). However, the way to the property from the street is not easy one, especially if you travel with luggage. The road was under construction.

Review 117:Cheap accommodation close to the central train station and not far from the city center. You can have simple breakfast at the hotel which may save your time if you're in hurry in the morning. Good Wi-Fi.

Review 118:No telephone in the room. A bit noisy in the day time for construction noise.

Review 119:Receptionists are very attentive and kind. Flat type rooms are relatively spacious and very clean. And above all, it is much cheaper than other hotels near Kiev Station, and probably the most closest from the station, just 6 minutes on foot. I would stay again!

Review 120:finding the hotel took me 30minutes in the middle of the night, receptionist couldn't properly explain where they are (in the back yard, through construction site). construction work starts at 7-8am and last through the day. it would be nice to have a warning. my room was not cleaned once during a week i was there!

Review 121:location was very convenient price was reasonable and those were only two reasons i stayed there

Review 122:took time for the showers to heat up

Review 123:value ofr money and very nice staff

Review 124:difficult to locate

Review 125:convenience price

Review 126:My bathroom drain was clogged

Review 127:Location. ..close to train station

Review 128:No engish, cold rooms with little heat, dirty elevators and have to be buzzed in because its a floor in a residential building.

Review 129:The room I lived in is super tiny..

Review 130:Location is good. Staff is nice. Affordable prices.

Review 131:The room was near the reception, so it was a little bit loudly

Review 132:Perfect location, nice staff, low price, good breakfast

Review 133:hotel starts at 3th floor and my room was at the 14th floor. bat you get used to others in the elevator

Review 134:Close to Railway station

Review 135:The hotel was withouth electricity 24 hours.

Review 136:Very close to main Train station.

Review 137:Not easy to find the reception which is on the 3rd floor.

Review 138:Located 5 minutes from the train station
