Reviews for Best Western Sovereign Hotel - Albany
Review 1:No negative comments and points.
Review 2:I like the location which is just opposite of SUNY Albany as my daughter is a student there. There is an onsite Mexican restaurant which serves some good Mexican fares. There are a few restaurants and pubs nearby. If you walk further without driving, University Plaza and CVS are nearby. The hotel gave me complimentary rides to Collins Circle at SUNY which is also an extra bonus for me. I just tipped the friendly driver for his help. Overall, it was a very comfortable and impressive 3 nights' stay for me. I will certainly be back next year. By the way, they have just completed the renovation recently and so everything looks new and clean. The complimentary breakfast was good enough for me too.
Review 3:Hotel is not very clean. I was really worried whether sheets were clean enough to sleep in. Did not feel comfortable
Review 4:Breakfast was very good as in all best western hotels
Review 5:Room was not very nice. Older everything, not enough towels for amt of people in room. Bed's too small and not very comfortable.
Review 6:Bkfast included. Nice Staff
Review 7:Room was in much needed of attention. Bathroom sink did not drain well. The heat/ exhaust fan in bathroom would not turn on. Carpet was not vacuumed very well. The whole room needs to be updated. There wasn't even any pictures on walls. Breakfast was not that great. Eggs not hot, Danishes Stale.
Review 8:Staff was very friendly. Beds very comfy.
Review 9:I realized, traveling alone, how helpful the automatic door would have been but it wasn't working. I managed but it definitely would have helped get in and out of the hotel with my baggage.
Review 10:Comfort. Wifi. Breakfast.
Review 11:Its not bad, its just the room could be bigger, better located to the back area where pets are allowed, and room service for food when you have a pet.
Review 12:Location close to the individual we wanted to visit.
Review 13:I would not recommend if you are planning to stay for more than one night. There is nothing much going on around that hotel.
Review 14:Just off the highway on our way to New York City. Simple, clean, comfortable. Perfect for a one night stay.
Review 15:I wanted a delayed check out due to going to work and would make it back in time to shower before driving back to NYC. I was told I was able to do a 1:00 PM delayed check out. So the morning of I checked again and it was changed from 1:00PM to 12:00PM. I wasn't too happy because I had to change plans to come back earlier to get my belongings. This was not fault of the person at front desk. Just wish it was something that would accommodate for the change in my schedule.
Review 16:I thought overall the staff was nice and welcoming. The Pool and Gym were nice for what it is. It was a good location near everything.
Review 17:One Of The Elevators Were Very Creepy Other Than That There's Nothing I Didn't Like About The Hotel Everything Was Amazing .
Review 18:The Staff Was Amazing And Our Stay At This Best western Made Our Trip Even More Amazing Everything Was Close And I Felt At Home There Definitely Will Refer And Stay Again When I'm In Town !!!
Review 19:The elevator seemed a little rough, so took the stairs, which were a little sketchy too, but overall, couldn't complain. Decent hotel.
Review 20:Staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfast environment was relaxed and done well, and the pool was nice and warm.
Review 21:Property was tired - needing updating. Bathroom too small. Printer did not work until I called someone to help. Poor location on major highway with no amenities local to the motel
Review 22:The staff were excellent Had basic amenities
Review 23:My father fell tripping over an unsecured rug inside one of the outside access doors. Banged up the knees badly, is still affecting the trip. The staff gave him use of their first aid kit and the room (one night) for free.
Review 24:The only thing that would make us like it more is perhaps the bathroom size, it's a bit small, but not a problem at all at the end.
Review 25:Everything was good. Breakfast was more than we expected from the same hotel class. Coffee was there at all time, that was excellent, it was also better than coffee at any other hotels we stayed before. I like microwave oven and fridge in the room. Location wasn't a problem since we had a car. Overall, it was very good.
Review 26:I have been here a lot and I was very disappointed this time. The bathroom sink and the tub were dirty. My bed was just made and none of the bedding was changed. I had to call to the front desk and get bedding, because they didn't clean/change the bed. It was just made. This was very late at night and I didn't want to change rooms so late. This was very disgusting. For a 135 dollars, the bedding should be changed and the room cleaned.
Review 27:I stay here because it's accross the street from my sons college.
Review 28:Room service opening my door at 8 am while I was sleeping was absolutelynot ok!! They should have a system in which they know what rooms havechecked out and not walk in on guest while they are sleeping, it is sorude and I wasn't able to go back to sleep after that!!
Review 29:cost of room, breakfast, easy to locate, has familiar Best Western quality, good restaurant "Barcelona" in walking distance, quiet, no panhandling "street people" even though within a populated neighborhood, university right across street.
Review 30:The room could of been cleaner, in the morning I noticed on my comforter to look like s blood stain I was mortified. The ceiling had a dark moldly long spot close to the window. My room over looked a very grunchy looking pool that I would not swim in if you paid me.
Review 31:I like that this hotel is directly across the street from the University at Albany.
Review 32:There were six pillows on the bed, all much too fat and hard to be used. We had to roll up the comforter (not needed in August) and place it at the head of the bed to use as a pillow
Review 33:Clean, sizable room, comfortable bed, good value for the price.
Review 34:Mildew smell in bath and linens, hearing neighbors late at night, needs some tlc.
Review 35:Breakfast, pool area, value compared to others in area, refrigerator in room.
Review 36:Everything is clean and nice and looks very modern. Very friendly staff. I stay there whenever I can and one night had to stay unexpectedly while traveling and they had a room late at night and honored an online price I found.
Review 37:Hallway carpet atrociously dirty looking, and foul smell. Bed clean and comfortable, but room had bad smells, and obvious that they tried to cover up with awful smelling air freshener.
Review 38:Great location and comfortable bed. Liked the pool, and airport shuttle.
Review 39:The room had a funky smell when you entered but it wasn't over powering enough to complain. Clean for the most part but needs new rugs, wallpaper and a little TLC.
Review 40:The staff was helpful and work hard. The price was right and we got what we paid for. The pool was nice.
Review 41:Only couple of small issues. WIFI was horrible could hardly get it to work. Said it was connected but slow response time. Wish they would make sure elevators are working. We were down to 1 elevator so times to get to 5th floor were long.
Review 42:Loved the hotel in general. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Happily gonna return next year. All and all would recommend this hotel.
Review 43:Everything! From the rude, ignorant staff who didn't bother toaccommodate our requests to the indoor pool that was heated above anormal temperature especially in the end of July with ninety degreetemperatures outside. The pool also had bugs in it and the whole hotelsmelt like piss!!! It was disgusting!!! We booked our rooms two daysprior and asked for connecting rooms. They couldn't do that but theman at the desk said we could have rooms across from each other whichwas fine. However when my family went to check in to the other room hesaid it wouldn't be ready for twenty minutes. Forty five minuteslater with no communication from the man at the desk who told us hewould call the other room to let us know when it was ready, told myfamily he couldn't do that room but one shortly down the hall. Theother room was on the opposite end of the building! The Mexicanrestaurant attached to the hotel was horrible!!!! There were flieseverywhere to the point I wouldn't even eat the chips and salsa! Ittook the bartender over ten minutes to get my drink. In the morning thebreakfast was so horrible you had to cut your scrambled eggs with aknife. The orange juice was watered down and the sausages were beyondstomaching. I went to the local Dunkin donuts because I seriously had noother choice. The maids around the hotel were rude and unhelpful andwalked around with mean mugs on their faces. The guy at the desk was atotal douche bag. I will never stay there ever again!!! Don'ttorture yourself!! I would rather sleep in my car!!
Review 44:Nothing! Not even the indoor pool!
Review 45:My son will be attending The nearby University at Albany in the Fall and I would definitely stay at the Best Western Sovereign Hotel again. In fact, when I was checking out, I tried to book the hotel for homecoming weekend in October. Unfortunately, they were already booked.
Review 46:Was under construction so there was no lobby. Vending machine was out of order. Unfortunate because I wanted bottled water. Pillows were small and weird but there were more than plenty of them. Overall it was ok. Definitely a bit dated but it was cheap enough.
Review 47:I got into my room after 9 pm at night , after driving for about 4 and a half hours. Had to go into a make shift lobby because they were under renovations... which was kinda creepy. Also had to get clean sheets sent to room. Ugh! .. Hair in Bed sheet. Apparently sheets never changed!... eww. Changed itinerary from a week to one night.
Review 48:I cant really say anything positive about this place.
Review 49:The hotel is in need of continued updating; the hall carpeting was musty and dirty-looking, and the whole place would be much brighter and more cheerful with new carpeting. The staff should all wear uniform shirts, so that we can address our questions to them. For example, at breakfast, many items were empty , cups missing at the coffee station, hot water carafe empty, but once I figured out who was employed there vs just another guest, and asked for assistance, they were very responsive and pleasant.
Review 50:The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable; nothing fancy but perfectly acceptable, and a good value. The breakfast was tasty, and had a variety of food options.
Review 51:We booked this hotel in large part due to the fact that it had a pool that our young daughter could use. After checking in we learned the pool was closed and would be for a few more weeks. There was no indication on any of the booking or hotel sites that this was the case. We would have chose another hotel if we had known.
Review 52:Asked for strobe fire alarm or a kit for the deaf, manager reported they had it in the room & no kit with strobe lights or alarm clock. The room did not have strobe light fire alarms. I was nervous about sleeping without it- since I cannot hear anything. The hotel pool was closed, we were very disappointed. They are undergoing renovations for over a week (through 4th of July wknd!). They really could use renovations in the rooms: rug is old & bathroom should be upgraded.
Review 53:Staff are friendly & very helpful. It is a great location & price.
Review 54:Even though the room was clean it was quite small for a king suite which is what we reserved. Sheets did not fit or stay on the bed. No facecloths were given on our second day. There were way too many university students who were loud at times. Being woken up at 6:30am by someone knocking on doors and yelling "are you up yet?" Was upsetting.
Review 55:Location was good. Room was clean. Staff was friendly when we did see them. Check in went smoothly. Good place to stay just to sleep.
Review 56:1. Had a mattress spring break through the mattress and cut my wife. 2. High school track and field athletes were unsupervised for two days and nights. 3. Breakfast was poor after the athletes left for the days.
Review 57:The night manager and the front desk manager (Josh) were extremely nice and professional. Both listened to our concerns and apologized for our situation. The people who attended to our room were simply super.
Review 58:The 'keys' didn't work. Had to go down and have the keys recoded both nights of our stay. Even after that it took multiple swipes before the 'key' worked
Review 59:Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The breakfast was very good.
Review 60:there weren't any pillow cases on my pillows when I checked in, but staff got them very quickly and were apologetic for the inconvenience. No ice machine on my floor and the one on the floor below wasn't out of ice.. so had to travel from 5 to 1 to get ice. I think that is because of renovations, so understandable.
Review 61:staff was friendly and courteous
Review 62:It was under construction so the pool was closed and we planned to swim!! We chose it because of the pool and I wish they would of let the costumers know before they book the room. I wasn't told this until after I payed.
Review 63:I loved the service, the room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Checking in was smooth!
Review 64:The lobby was being renovated, so it was a bit of a muddle. Hotel generally needs updating so I am sure the work will make a difference
Review 65:Friendly helpful staff, comfortable bed, nice breakfast.
Review 66:The room was dirty very dusty. The front desk said they will send some to clean the room but they never came. I when home with allergies and got worse. You could a lot of dust on the drapes, the rugs were filthy the furniture was very dusty. I really fell that should pay for this kind of service.
Review 67:The breakfast.
Review 68:The smell of the room. The rundown appearence. The filth. The feeling that bugs were waiting for the lights to turn off in order to crawl around! Etc....
Review 69:The best part was checking out!
Review 70:Not much, given the price.
Review 71:The full breakfast was very good and came at no extra cost; plus it was on the premises. The room was clean and well furnished. The staff was courteous.
Review 72:They were doing renovations there was nothing anyone could do about this but it would have been nice to know.
Review 73:The staff was excellent especially Maurice who jumped our car for us and was very friendly and kind towards us.
Review 74:The only complaint we had was that the pool had an extremely high amount of chlorine. Our skin and eyes were burning.
Review 75:Nice clean rooms. Good amount of choices at breakfast. Liked the complementary coffee in the lobby.
Review 76:In the middle of construction the hotel was very clean. The staff went above and beyond. I would go back in a heart beat. One suggestion, think about using the shuttle to take people to the Capital, parking is very expensive. This would give your ratings a perfect 100%. Blessings
Review 77:Room was not ready and I checked in at 5. Schedule the room two days prior. Tub was dirty, last guest left some items in room and was not taken out. Dirty ice tray. Had to call twice for assistance. Finally a young male came and asked me what needed to be done!!
Review 78:Mattress had a spring sticking out of it, quick fix - maintenance cut the spring shorter ?!?! Prank calls at 11pm from other guests Room was located across from elevator so it was noisy until 10/11pm each night
Review 79:Free wifi Friendly staff Location was great for my trip
Review 80:The bed sheet barely fit over the mattress and it was uncomfortable. The bathroom seemed clean but upon further inspection, I found little hairs all around the edges of the bathroom area. The room itself felt dingy.
Review 81:The staff was very nice.
Review 82:Old, low-end bathroom, the whole hotel needs be either be renovated or they need to slash their prices.
Review 83:Not much really, for the price, its really just not worth it.
Review 84:I was a single woman traveling late night discovering there was heavy renovation in progress made me feel uneasy.
Review 85:I like Peter the person at the desk. But the other person was acting weird checking me in. I liked the
Review 86:Initially given a pool-side room-- smells awfully like chlorine. Wi-Fi was too weak to use. Hard beds.
Review 87:Price, easy to downtown Albany, friendly staff, nice clean room-- better than expected for what was paid. Good deal if you don't mind an outdated building, just want a clean place to stay the night.
Review 88:Hotel tried to rip us off by charging each of us $100 for two days to n from our exam center via their van whereas when some of us took a taxi we spent only $40 for the two days in n out . But some were ripped off and were angry 2. The food they sell at their restaurant is expensive and it doesn't taste good. 3. On the day of our exams early morning, there was no hot water in such a cold winter so we had to shower very cold water - very mad 4 . Some of the elevators don't work well and their vendor machines 5. The view you see on this website is very different from the actual hotel when u see it or go there
Review 89:Room, tv n channels, Internet - wii-fi, the breakfast
Review 90:Worst think about the trip was the surprise extra 100 dollars I had to pay because Booking.com don't include tax in their prices. The floors could have been a little cleaner. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast included is sufficient but the restaurant and gym are really outdated. Lobby was under construction, whole 2nd floor was like a sauna.
Review 91:My king bed room had space, the fridge and the microwave were very handy, big desk, everything you'd need. No extra charges for wifi, use of the fridge or anything.
Review 92:The hotel needs a full renovation. The doors to the rooms, room key readers, hallways, and common areas are all outdated by maybe 10-15 years. The rooms were clean, but there were water stains on the ceiling and furniture was scratched. The rooms were more updated than the rest of the hotel itself, but it seemed like the have completely neglected the front desk area, common spaces, and hallways.
Review 93:The breakfast was good. The hotel provided reasonably clean and comfortable rooms. Location was convenient to the highway.
Review 94:The price was high. I travel the area often and found places of same standard much cheaper .
Review 95:Bobby at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable the room was extremely clean. Breakfast was also good. Staff are great .
Review 96:Pillows were hard.
Review 97:Good location to local attractions, staff were friendly and helpful, nice swimming pool, clean rooms, and clean throughout, close to restaurants, breakfast was satisfactory.
Review 98:This hotel hasn't been updated since the early 80's. Rugs were disgusting and the room was small. I was traveling with my boys (12 and 10). Luckily my wife wasn't with us, because there is no way she would have stayed there. Pay the extra $20 and stay at the Holiday Inn down the road.
Review 99:Pool and fee breakfast
Review 100:Not the cleanest place, but not particularly dirty. Not the highest quality place, but it's perfectly functional.
Review 101:Good value for money, comfortable, convenient. Very nice staff.
Review 102:- The sauna was barely functioning, but even if it had worked, I had not wanted to use it because it was really dirty. - A light chloro smell filled the air of the hotel. -Hotel needs a few upgrades because it is an older property. -The fitted sheet did not fit the bed and the brown bed shirt was torn.
Review 103:+ The Staff was nice and very helpful. They seemed to have a great team spirit that gave a good feeling. + Breakfast was ok, very nice that you can make your own waffles. +Busses 10,11 and 763 stops about 17m from the Lobby door.
Review 104:The restaurant was nice but the fries were a bit too spicy. When we asked for one of two to be taken off bill because our daughter would not eat them and waitress said no. Maybe make fries little less spicy.
Review 105:We loved the room and the pool was very warm.
Review 106:The fitted sheet did not fit the bed . the room was too small the cleaning ladies were loud and obnoxious . and the hallways were dirty . Should have been fifty bucks a night.
Review 107:Front desk clerk was helpful and nice. Breakfast was good the bar area and pool were nice too.
Review 108:having to keep logging on to the wi-fi network every time I turn off my mobile devices, housekeeping carts blocking the hallways during early evening hours
Review 109:convenience of using wi-fi
Review 110:Bed was to soft for my liking. Hotel needs a few upgrades. It is an older property. BUT it was clean and that is important.
Review 111:Great location, great price! Complimentary breakfast was the best ever! Nice variety of choices and very delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean, which is very important to me. I will stay here again on my next trip to Albany.
Review 112:Staff very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Great value for the price. Excellent location. Wi-fi OK for cell phones, not so great for computers. Have stayed here several tea and will definitely return. Lots of parking space.
Review 113:The swimming pool room was - (although the water was warm)
Review 114:We had many special requests and the staff accommodated us on each one. Easy to reach off the Interstate. Straight ride to downtown Albany. Generous breakfast.
Review 115:Elevator is on the fritz, pool area was so cold that it couldn't be used, the pool deck was also quite dirty. Had to change rooms due to unruly guests, windows were filthy and opened where old ac units would've been affixed to the ground. Huge safety hazard. Ceiling in bathroom leaked. Grout needed a good scrub.
Review 116:Staff are incredibly friendly, bed was comfy and breakfast was great.
Review 117:While the free breakfast is a nice touch, and the selection of items is good, the hot food items (especially the eggs) are terrible.
Review 118:The staff members were so friendly and helpful. We really got a warm welcome when we arrived.
Review 119:During recent 6 night stay I reported inoperative lamp on day 2,3 and 4 and left on day 7 morning and it wasn't fixed. Two days no shampoo and soap in room.
Review 120:Location was good for us. Rooms are clean, nice pool, good breakfast.
Review 121:Noisy fellow guests at night; why can't people be respectful of others?
Review 122:Front reception staff were amazing, very friendly, always offering to help. Good breakfast included. Free coffee & tea in the lobby. Fabulous indoor swimming pool and gym area.
Review 123:The other guests were very load in the hallways and a diesel truck was left running outside my window for long periods of time.
Review 124:The hotel and staff were good.
Review 125:There was no outlet to plug in the lamp on the rt. side of the bed where I usually sleep and read. There was a snack chip on the carpet in front of the TV and a snack wrapper behind the rt.bedside stand.
Review 126:Loved the clock radio because of the chose of sounds for sleep and wake up. Shower head was great. Room was quiet. Bathroom was immaculately cleaned.
Review 127:Carpeting in hallway was filthy. There was something I hope was chocolate on the peephole. The shower curtain was filthy on the inside. Footstool for the chair was missing a leg so it tipped. WiFi was terrible.
Review 128:The staff was friendly. Beds were reasonably comfortable.
Review 129:This time we stayed there the bathroom was not very clean. It looked like there was dirt or shaving remnants in the tub. Otherwise the room was fine.
Review 130:The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is located right across from UAlbany making it very convenient. It is a good place for a very good rate.
Review 131:The service here are great, friendly, positive and all thoughtful. And the business centre provides free printing services. PS: lots of restaurants around.
Review 132:House keeping knocking your door at 8.45 am , and being loud in the hallway by playing music while cleaning adjacent rooms. Most dirtiest carpets I have ever seen in my whole life in any Hotel I stayed.
Review 133:Just the location !
Review 134:Dusty horizontal surfaces, floor could have been vacuumed better. Found hair in tub as well as brown stain that could be removed with finger. Very stained hallway carpeting. Also had difficulty sleeping due to vent fan noise. Juice machine with no substitute.
Review 135:Good breakfast included with room charge(waffles, eggs & sausage, pastry, cereal, coffee, tea) Cleaning staff provided extra blanket for second night when requested with a note on the bed.
Review 136:The hallway carpet was dated with dirty spots all over it. The hot breakfast didn't have varieties of food to eat for semi-vegetarians.
Review 137:I like the comfort of the bed
Review 138:The staff was extremely helpful by phone and in person, friendly, professional & well dressed. Lauren was working late night at the front desk and remained super friendly & informative even though I called 5x! I was honestly and pleasantly surprised by how much we loved this place and the location was superb for all of our tourist interests and more. Highly recommend!!
