Reviews for Os Moinhos

Review 1:What a beautifully rustic place with an amazing view, a warm, friendly, and welcoming host, and phenomenal food! When we arrived, Joachin (sp?) greeted us with coffee and tea and good conversation, including recommendations for what we could do and see during our two-day stay on Sao Jorge. The meals in his restaurant were simply outstanding--the best I experienced in the Azores. The breakfasts of freshly squeezed orange juice, crepes, homemade jam, Sao Jorge cheese, freshly baked bread, fresh fruit and more were heavenly. A stay at Os Moinhos is more than a vacation; it is an unforgettably enjoyable experience--a real treat. I highly recommend it! PLUS, 5 days at a "fancy" hotel on the island of Terceira yielded only 2 times that I could get on the Internet, yet at Os Moinhos, we were able to get on every single time--both in the room and in the restaurant.

Review 2:property needs some care bathtube too high for older people, better would be a shower closed system on taking the shower, the water comes out of the bathtube price somewhat high for a single occupation

Review 3:friendship of the owner silence view facilities in room

Review 4:no wifi during our stay even though the owner tried everything to fix it, dinner can take a long time and breakfast is often cold, rooms badly isolated

Review 5:very caring owner, spacious extremely pretty apartments (2 floors) spread across a big area with a natural pool

Review 6:This was our favorite hotel of the 5 we stayed at on our last trip to the Azores. The owner was so friendly and nice. After we checked in he made us fresh espresso and gave us some of the truffles he makes in his restaurant.....and they were amazing!!! He made a fantastic spread for us each morning for breakfast, including delicious crepes, homemade jams and breads, fresh local cheese, scrambled eggs, fresh squeezed orange juice, and much more. The property is peaceful and quaint and our room was quite large. The wifi worked in our room, and this was the only hotel we stayed at in the Azores that had reliable wifi in our room. We will go back to this island, just to stay here....it is that great. :)

Review 7:There is nothing about this place one could not like!

Review 8:The hospitality and true kindness of Joaquin and his familiy/staff is amazing. We enjoyed every single minute staying at Os Moinhos and felt really well cared for. The included breakfast is just amazing and the restaurant would win awards if it was better known. I strongly recommend to go to Sao Jorge and stay at Os Moinhos for the best experience you can make on the azores.

Review 9:Wonderful rooms - a bit rustic on the outside, but very comfortable on the inside. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast and the restaurant were amazing - great quality food. Be sure to ask the owner for tips on what to see - especially the 'secret waterfall'. Highly recommended!

Review 10:Poor wi fi in the room, dampness (humidity is over 90%)

Review 11:One of the best owner what ever I seen in the world. The best restaurant (with the great view to the Pico) on the all islands (meals in cataplana are very delicious). Free transfers from/to airport, to seaport and so all. Owner helped me to rent a car (the last car on island). Good view from the territory.

Review 12:It was far, the weather was bad, a terrible fog to get there, no indication on the road, and then during the night it rained ON my bed...all night, and it dropped elsewhere all night! And it was announced with a sea view which was not true.

Review 13:Some rooms were probably not too bad but not ours

Review 14:just some problems with wifi connection..

Review 15:Everything was perfect! The place is incredible: it is a restored hamlet in the middle of the something like a botanical garden.. the rooms are like a houses in volcanic stones. I think that the restaurant is the best of the arcipelago. An than the atmosphere is so familiar.. The owner (is also the chef), and his wife help us more then any other 'normal' good hotelier..

Review 16:I like all

Review 17:Fantastic place with the view on Pico, car needed to get to the place. Extrimly nice owner and the staff. Local restaurant with the best fresh sea food. Charming place for people who aprreciate calm places to rest and experinece Azors surrounding. Owner sharing the stories from Azors which help to understand the island even better. To be recommneded...

Review 18:Our stay with Joaquim and Leticia at Hotel Os Moinhos was our best accomodation experience whilst travelling in the Azores for almost 3 weeks on 4 islands. These two fantastic and friendly people has created a warm and nice atmosphere in their idyllic surroundings. The hotel (which to me more resembles a B&B) is newly built and minor things were missing. But once everything is in place and ready you don't get a more relaxed getaway with idyllic stonehouses on a mountain hill. A thing I have to appraise is the food, which was fantastic! Based on local fish and meat, and organic vegetables grown in their own garden, they served well-tasting traditional and typical Azorean food. The breakfast with fresh fruit from the garden, Azorean cheese and homemade cakes, pancakes and bread was a buffet of luxuries. If you are hiking, roadtripping or just need a getaway in idyllic surroundings, this is the spot. I warmly recommend Os Moinhos to everyone... if you are looking for the traditional hotel accomodation, this is not for you. Many thanks for making our stay so special. I cannot appraise Os Moinhos enough!

Review 19:Location, value and friendliness.

Review 20:It's a wonderful place, nice and clean with an awesome view and they serve fantastic breakfast in their restaurant.

Review 21:Very fiendly owners of the hotel. Beautiful view from the restaurant but the hotel needs a lot of expenditures and work.

Review 22:Great place, great people, fantastic food and nature. Must visit and see.
