Reviews for White Eagle Inn & Family Lodge

Review 1:No bad experiences.

Review 2:Staff was friendly and helpful with info about the Cortez area. Facilities were small but clean, with wi-fi. We booked a second stay after our good experiences with the first.

Review 3:Nothing!

Review 4:Excellent value for money! Very clean, quiet, comfortable room and bed. Very friendly and helpful owners. Good tips for dinner and breakfast locations. Close proximity to Mesa Verde.

Review 5:Service was excellent - the owner was kind enough to provide us with the best places to go for dinner - plus because all the doors to the rooms open onto the center area, we got to visit with our neighbors - what a great experience - facility is older but perfectly clean and an excellent bargain

Review 6:None

Review 7:Very nice, friendly and helpful owners. Very good price value. Good tips for good dinner and breakfast locations. Dog is called Dylan. Cortez perfect town to visit Mesa Verde.

Review 8:No breakfast but they had no place to have it as it was an old motel.

Review 9:While old motel, rooms were clean and staff was very good and helpful. Good location to Mesa Verde

Review 10:Location is on the far edge of town so nothing is within walking distance.

Review 11:Charming retro motel with wonderful staff. Clean room, comfortable bed. Would stay there again.

Review 12:Nothing - if you are looking for hotel lobbies, patios, restaurants on-site, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for excellent value, clean and very quiet rooms, with quick access to Mesa Verde, then this is an excellent choice! FYI great restaurants and bars nearby - short drives!

Review 13:Quiet, quiet, clean, clean and helpful, friendly owner. Solid walls and comfy beds - totally quiet. Short drive to center restaurants. Old-fashioned motel but well taken care of! Quieter than newer properties.

Review 14:Stayed 3 nights. Our room was old, but very clean and comfortable. Friendly and helpfull owners. No breakfast, but a restaurant is couple of minutes by car. The motel has its charm.

Review 15:A little bit 'out of the centre', but that we knew upfront...

Review 16:Although it is just 'motel', the rooms were very very clean and some small little extra's you don't expect from a motel. The lady at the front desk (and new owner) is SUPER FRIENDLY !!

Review 17:Comfortable beds and very clean. The room had everything we needed incl a dining table and chairs and a desk. Very friendly and helpful staff. Cortez is a pleasant town and 15 minute drive from Mesa Verde.

Review 18:It would have been nice to have an area to watch the sun rise over Mesa Verde. The view behind the rooms is great, but not accessible. Also room was on the small side.

Review 19:Pleseant staff, very clean room with good coffee maker and fridge. AC worked well and was quiet enough on HOT days. Very good value.

Review 20:The pool seems to be there, but according to owner, it is broken (not usable) since 17 years ago. And, it is close to Mesa Verde national park, but information about the ticket for the tour/details was not provided, even at the visitor center that owner mentioned and we went, and found out tickets for the tour were already sold out, and felt like spending some time in visitor center was waste of time later. TV was old type and put on the shelf near the bed (sticking out) and hit the head at the corner many times and dangerous, and the cables and wires are outside to easily trip by accident. I hope owner will think about.

Review 21:The owner of the inn was very nice and friendly, and we were very easy to ask questions and have a chat. She fixed the wifi for the customer and it was very smooth.

Review 22:The A/C unit in our room did not work. Because the room is so tight and well insulated, it was extremely warm inside the room and we didn't sleep well because it was too warm. I mentioned this to the owner upon check out hoping for some type of discount, but all she said was she would look into it. I don't think we will chance staying there again.

Review 23:Room was very clean and quiet. Location is at far end of town away from traffic noise.

Review 24:Old TV Small rooms

Review 25:They advertise "Ultra clean" rooms and they are right. Everything sparkled. Towels were soft and new. Carpet didn't feel gross. It's an old motel but they keep it nice and clean and in the end, a clean room is way better than a fancy room. Stars on the ceiling of room 11. The young couple who own it are very nice.

Review 26:Absolutely adorable, very helpful family, who owns this property. We were greeted with a smile and felt very welcome. Great dinner tips. The property is older but sufficient updated and very clean. I found it charming.

Review 27:This is a 50's-era motel, family owned and operated. The rooms are small, but have been updated a bit, and are perfectly comfortable and very clean. Not swanky, but after a day of hiking at Mesa Verde, it was perfect.

Review 28:The location of the White Eagle was perfect for our road trip. Very nice owner with a non-corporate hotel that had some real vintage character. There are some shallow canyons behind that were good for a walk too. Very close to Mesa Verde and Hovenweep.

Review 29:I don't understand the sign out front that indicated it was owned by Americans?

Review 30:Super clean!!! Great location! Staff extremely helpful and welcoming...Sorry we couldn't stay longer!

Review 31:First impression was that it would be a bit run down but it's in good shape. The pool wasn't available though.

Review 32:We really enjoyed the service and friendliness of the owner and staff.

Review 33:it was great having the family room.. two queen beds and single.. micro wave outside with refrig in room... quiet and would stay and recommend to friends. we didn't care if they had breakfast or not... because there are a lot of great eating places in cortez

Review 34:Restaurant's were a little way into town but not bad.

Review 35:We got the room with 3 beds and that was great for my family! It was very old but clean. WiFi wasn't great for a family of 5 but we were not there long just needed a place to sleep.

Review 36:Great staff, just that the room looked dark...with dark walls, carpet, furniture, bedspread, etc. Something could lighten up. Mattress could be improved, it was a little lumpy/springy. Location was just a little off and away from the main drag of the town of Cortez, but it's a small town so off and away means about a 2 mile drive to get back into the heart of town.

Review 37:Very nice and friendly staff and I liked it that we patroned a family owned business.

Review 38:the only thing is the air conditioner is kind of noisy

Review 39:Staff are nice. Location is good for people looking a rest station while on the way to another destination.

Review 40:The staff was very nice and helpful, the room was perfectly fine and spotless. The outside of the motel is very modest, but it does have a pool. We selected it because it had gotten so many good reviews from others - better than other hotels that were more expensive with more "stars". We couldn't have been more pleased and agree with all of those good reviews.

Review 41:Wifi wasn't great but we actually got an email prior to arrival telling us that and also were given the opportunity to change motels with no charge. That was nice.

Review 42:The staff were very courteous . The price was excellent.

Review 43:Management was so nice! We were going to be late coming in so I called earlier in the evening. The had the room all ready for us with the lights on and info in the room. The room was very clean and comfortable! It was so close to Mesa Verde! I would definitely stay here again.

Review 44:On route to hotel we stopped at 4 corners, we got a call from hotel owner confirming our arrival, when we explained our whereabouts, she left lights on and key on dresser. Lovely friendly family.

Review 45:There were a couple minor inconveniences - the bathroom door didn'tactually latch completely (older building seems to have settled), showerwater temp fluctuated (again - typical older motel), only a singleelectric outlet that my hairdryer plug could not fit into in thebathroom. (NOTE-there were lots of outlets in the room itself. ) We werecomfortable and pleased overall, and especially after the expensiverooms in Durango.

Review 46:This is one of those cool old-time motels. It's got both nostalgiaand enough modern comforts. Ac, fridge, Wi-Fi, nice beds, lots ofelectric outlets in room, The price was awesome!! If you are looking forbigbox pampering and high-end amenities...not so much. If you want avery reasonable price on a comfortable, clean, & well-kept room, with a staff that truly cares, choose White Eagle!

Review 47:Mini-fridge was located directly under the tv. Ouch! As I stood up thefirst time from putting things in. Watch your head!!! Moved over acouple feet for our stay. If moved back/left under the tv, pleaseconsider putting padding on the tv stand (sharp metal corners!)and/or a warning sign on the front of the fridge saying "watchyour head as you stand up."

Review 48:Helpful, informative, super friendly staff. Fast free wifi (apparentlyfrom other reviews there were problems a few months ago, but those arefixed). Quiet, clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Alarm clockprovided.Microwave in office and community one outside. Air-conditioning was better than that of friends who stayed at a nationalchain in Cortez. Retro look (paneling on the walls with pictures ofMesa Verde from a local gallery) also had a more homey feel than thatof the chain who had stark white walls with a couple generic pictures. The room was in every way superior to those of the national chain whichis newer except for a smaller mini-fridge, which was adequate for ourneeds. Assigned parking directly in front of your room. Great value forthe price!!

Review 49:nothing bad- very good experience (bring your own pillows [as I always do anywhere] if you are particular)

Review 50:Attentive staff, community microwave that wasn't advertised, very comfortable bed, free coffee or tea, mini-fridge, assigned parking spot for room so you are by it, fast wifi, very clean, upgraded vintage decorated motel

Review 51:The wifi wasn't working but the owner explained she had just had it installed and the technician was still tinkering with it .

Review 52:The motel is comfortable and well-located Cortez is the gateway to Mesa Verde National Park. The community has a range of enjoyable restaurants, The staff at the inn went out of their way to be helpful.

Review 53:This 60's motel is terrific. The owner was very helpful. Based on her recommendation, we ended up having a great meal in town at the Loungin' Lizzard. The room was clean and comfortable and the location was very convenient.

Review 54:The staff was friendly and welcoming, the room had retro charm and was comfortable for my whole family (me, a 40-year-old mom, my 71-year-old mother, and three kids: 15, 12, and 9). Good value, basic amenities that suited us just fine. (We were there for the archaeology!) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks!

Review 55:Very cute retro facility with a super friendly and accommodating staff. There were no frills and extras, but that's what I liked about it. Very comfortable and laid-back. Loved it!

Review 56:No complimentary breakfast but not a deal-breaker considering what else we got.

Review 57:Friendliness of the manager, cleanliness and upkeep of property and room we stayed in.

Review 58:The property/furnishings are a bit dated. No breakfast offered. Room is a bit small. Other guests woke us up early when talking and packing in the parking lot. Outside town so not walkable to anything.

Review 59:The rooms were pretty much spotless; never seen a cleaner shower in all my years traveling (including nicer hotels). The new owner is very conscientious and took care in what she did, which goes a long way. Quiet enough right off the highway into Cortez.

Review 60:We didn't have time to stay longer

Review 61:Kelly was super to us Lot's of helpful information. We even stayed an extra day. And she juggled thing's so we could keep the same room.... Great time

Review 62:Maybe could have had some vending machines.

Review 63:We liked everything about this place. There was not breakfast, but most hotel breakfasts are not worth eating anyway.

Review 64:Good Location and friendly, helpful proprietors. Very clean and well maintained for an older establishment. A pleasant surprise. Brought me back to the days of traveling Route 66.

Review 65:Needed some updating

Review 66:Loved that it was family owned. The staff was wonderful. It had a very "being home" quality. The room was clean and comfy with a lot of room.

Review 67:The Wifi is flaky, so if this matters a lot to you, better go somewhere else.

Review 68:Friendly, clean and convenient. A decor is a bit retro, but everything works properly.

Review 69:Kelly and her staff go above and beyond the call to make your stay great. Well maintained, great value. Kelly's restaurant suggestions were on the money as well.

Review 70:The room was very clean. For a motel I think that is the most important aspect. The bathroom was roomy and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very inviting and friendly. What more can you ask for?

Review 71:Heater wasn't working WIFI was spotty

Review 72:Very friendly host, since the heater wasn't working in our room she reimbursed me Parking right out front

Review 73:Wifi weak in our room which was far from the main office. signal ok closer to the office.

Review 74:Great location for anyone traveling on route 160. A great value and fun alternative to chain motels. It's a private small business, yay!

Review 75:Not far from the downtown area and near some good eating establishments. Liked it so well that we stayed there on our return trip home. If we're ever in the area again we'll stay there again.

Review 76:Heater was hard to work. I kept banging my head on wall mounted lamp above bed. TV was wall mounted along one side of bed requiring me to look over the shoulder of my spouse. You had to walk outside to use shared Microwave.

Review 77:The staff was very helpful. They had a power strip for extra plugs. No password required for wifi.

Review 78:I did not like being scolded for arriving at 8 pm in the evening. I did not like being told that they (the owner's) where leaving at 8:30 in the morning and would appreciate us being ready to check out then. (It did not happen, we slept in). If they don't want costumers after 8 pm, they should state it. And if they cannot honor their 11 am checkout, they should let their customers know before they book.

Review 79:Very bad Internet connection.

Review 80:Proximity to Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, 4 Corners monument. Quiet place to rest after a long day hike. The manager was very friendly and made her best to accommodate us. She provided useful directions to the main attractions in the area. As we arrived quite late her husband made sure the room was warm and lights on upon our late arrival.

Review 81:It was a wonderful surprise, convenient price, wonderful service at front desk, very clean, you see the family business touch everywhere. Highly recommended!

Review 82:Owners are friendly and helpful. Clean. Easy check in and out. Beside the highway, but not noisy. Good site to visit the National Park and attractions nearby, or to stop in a long trip.

Review 83:The staff did not want to accomodate even the most basic needs. The hotel is located at the outskirt of town and next to a heavy traffic HW, thus is very noisy.

Review 84:Low cost

Review 85:The White Eagle was a great place to stay. Its proximity to Mesa Verde NP and two nearby national monuments, as well as the 4 Corners, was the initial reason for staying there. But the room was a pleasant surprise. Though a dated facility, it was very clean. The bed, bedding and bath facilities were better than most. And there was plenty of room for two in this room. Parking was a joy, and accessibility to the town was excellent. Overall, this was a great bargain for us, and we would recommend it anytime.

Review 86:It is a bit on the outskirts of town, but so what! There's not a whole lot to do in town anyway! Ha! People are there mainly 6-mo. out of the year to do touristy things and this place fits the bill. Really don't have anything bad to say at all. Really really liked the place and enjoyed our stay!

Review 87:This place is clean, old-school, America. I loved it. Family run and operated. Very friendly. Very accomodating. Can't say enough good about it...and my wife is a complete hotel snob! Typically anything under 4-stars isn't her bag, but she LOVED this place. So did I.

Review 88:Nitpicky negative things: was at the very bottom of Cortez so a couple minutes' drive to food, and a tiny bit farther from Mesa Verde than other hotels. No breakfast. WiFi a bit slow but perhaps that's due to general location and the time I used it (6pm).

Review 89:Price, cleanliness, nice-looking but very basic room with good bed.

Review 90:Noisy air conditioner

Review 91:Friendly owners. Great information on area restaurants, attractions, etc. Excellent value for price. Very clean. Good location. Close to Mesa Verde.

Review 92:We were pleased to find a family style motel that was so well preserved for it's age. The bathroom was very clean and had all the comforts of home. Bed clean and comfortable. We left the maid a tip, a rare thing for us to do, but satisfaction was completely positive.

Review 93:Midcentury Modern decor in room, very clean, simple comforts, quiet location

Review 94:The price for the room was too much for the quality of the hotel. The location is not within walking distance to restaurants. There are many other hotels in the area that are cheaper and much better

Review 95:The office staff was very pleasant

Review 96:Nothing

Review 97:I liked that it was a small family run business...staff were so pleasant..room was very clean and had a comfortable nights sleep...hotel is on the outskirt of town..so nice and peaceful..would recommend to others.. 10/10

Review 98:This is a family owned business, both were very nice and helpful. The room was clean, and it is truelly smoke free, a big plus for us. The room was a bit small but all we needed it for was to sleep, so it didn't bother us at all. We would recommend this hotel to friends and would stay here again.

Review 99:Liked everything - no complaints!

Review 100:Beautiful clean place with some pretty amazing views. The owners Steve and Connie are such nice people. Can't wait to go back and stay again!

Review 101:Beds were hard as rocks and the mattress kept sliding off the box frame. Electrical wiring obviously updated from "old, old days" and looked a bit dangerous. Furniture, including mattresses, must be original from the 1950's.

Review 102:Was a little far out of town but we were headed west anyway so it was ok for us.

Review 103:Room was fairly large compared to others we have stayed in. Had nice coffee pot, refrig, and bathroom was adequate. Again, they are older motels and as always, most places we stayed could use a facelift.

Review 104:The pool was closed - not that I had time to swim anyway and I didn't have a chance to ask why. Room was a bit on the cramped side. The TV was hanging in a spot where one could have easily bumped their head. A little outside of town - couldn't walk anywhere to shop, eat, etc.

Review 105:Room was clean and you didn't have to climb stairs lugging your suitcases - you could park right outside your door.

Review 106:The bed was very poor. The water in the show was uncontrollable, started out the right temp and then if water was used else where it would to freezing cold or scalding hot.

Review 107:The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the sites in the area.

Review 108:Thin walls. Screaming kid next door late nite & early morning. Drizzle/disfunctional shower. Non-secure WiFi.

Review 109:Clean. Comfortable beds. Room available. Nice man in office @ check-in.

Review 110:We had trouble with the air-conditioner being too cold and not easy to adjust.

Review 111:Very nice staff. Even called to tell as we had left items so we could return and get them while still near the motel.

Review 112:Service was great and staff were very friendly. Nice clean comfortable room close to Mesa Verde. Would recommend this to all and would definitely stay there again.

Review 113:Swimming pool out of order, grass areas brown, probably due to drought

Review 114:Friendly and accommodating staff, nice clean rooms, free coffee, games for the kids in the lobby, comfortable beds and pillows, great value in a nice family motel

Review 115:Shower was a bit erratic, (bath was lovely though) and lighting a bit weak for older eyes - especially in the dark corners

Review 116:We asked for a microwave and were put in a room adjecent to this Lovely family approach - hostess (Connie) gave us her name and wanted to know ours - we appreciated this. We had some car probpems after we left Cortez, and we needed a service station - the host was able to point us in the right direction. This saved us so much time and we did appreciate this as well.

Review 117:A little bit out of town, you need a car to go to restaurants. No breakfast.

Review 118:Clean, very good value for money. Friendly staff. Excellent for a short stay. Family friendly.

Review 119:lots of retro aspects but clean & comfortably updated, e.g., quiet a/c/heat & of course wifi, nice amenities like makeup removal cloth, hairdryer, small fridge. if you're going to be out most of the day, to the national park & other sites, you can come home to comfort and save yourself about $50 a night over other accommodations in Cortez. Nice front office owners.

Review 120:Regretted I didn't book a room with 2 beds as the queen bed we had was a bit small for two

Review 121:The location was convenient not far from town and just 9 miles to Mesa Verde National Park. The owner was most helpful and friendly.

Review 122:Our toilet got clogged and their was nobody at the office to do anything. They should really have some staff there during the night.

Review 123:Clean and affordable
