Reviews for Pyramid Hotel
Review 1:I would recommend to improve the breakfast. The price at the time of booking was written exclusive tax. There should be a norm of writing price in one way or another.
Review 2:The location and the staff.
Review 3:My second night I was moved to an apartment across the street with no A/C, no wifi. They gave me a key to the room, but when I tried to leave an hour later I was locked out of the stairwell. I had to call multiple times to the front desk to get someone to open the door.
Review 4:Lovely terrace for breakfast, clean, nothing fancy.
Review 5:I have been to Nungwi so many times earlier, and was happy withhotels/guest houses on previous trips, so this time haven'tchecked thoroughly before booking Sunbird and ruined last days ofamazing vacation in Zanzibar. Quite far from the beach, rooms areok'ish, but no ac; saw 2 huge cockroaches and a big spider in theroom, to what Rita, Italian owner , said- "so what.. Happens inAfrica". That were the only English words we heard as she eitherpretends or indeed speaks no English. When I took a picture of cockroachshe went very mad and started filming us in the room on her mobile. Ingeneral during the stay, she entered our room whenever she wanted whichI found quite impolite!. After half-a-day at this terrible place, I wasready to pay more but stay elsewhere. However she refused any refund andsaid if we leave she'd keep the full payment. Rita took all paymentupfront just as we arrived and provided no receipt. She refused toprovide towels, and fired the local boy from her staff when he brought usone. Owner's behavior looked like she is enjoying upsetting people :Though we agreed on city tax to be paid in local currency, she refusedto take it unless we change to usd! She knew it was quite difficult toexchange local to usd in Nungwi at this time. Rita as well threatened tocall police if we do not meet her new requirement for this extra paymentto be in usd not local shillings, mentioning she is like local andspeaks perfect Swahili. We never saw other guests in Sunbird, though it was the highest season (2-5 JANUARY). As well as staff was fired and new hired twice during our 3 nights stay! HIGH WALLS AROUND PROPERTY & GATES LOCKED AT ALL TIMES! is it a jail? Rita ignored when we asked for solution ( bell or more attention from staff) as we have to scream by the gate and wait for 10-15 minutes for someone to show up and open to get in or out.
Review 6:As above, oh and they make you leave your key with reception (completely normal) but are then not present from reception when you return at night so you cannot get your key. Spent half an hour with someone else watching football on reception TV waiting!
Review 7:Day 1 room at rear of building. Non flushing toilet and room stank of sewage, no air con and no working television. Failure to deliver on All details stated on Booking.com. Moved rooms for second night, better room with all previous matters resolved, just an issue with numerous gaping holes in the bed net. Nightmare place, DO NOT CONSIDER STAYING HERE!
Review 8:The breakfast was basic but sufficient. The terrace (where breakfast is served) could do with some upkeep, particularly the furniture. No view from my room but that didn't bother me.
Review 9:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The furniture on display in the hallways was impressive. Storing luggage after check out was no problem.
Review 10:On the other hand, breakfast can be improved as very basic. Reasonable value for money.
Review 11:Central and well located, however difficult to find. Nicely decorated rooms and friendly and helpful staff. They can help you with tours and transportation. Reasonable value for money.
Review 12:The staff truly made my experience at Pyramid Hotel inexplicably amazing. They helped with the lock on my door when it jammed, they helped organize tours and drivers, and they walked me back and forth to numerous places, occasionally multiple times. My favorite story is from when I was exercising in my room (skipping rope) with my door open, and the owner came by to tell me no one else was on my floor that night and I was free to utilize the hallway space for my workout. Just wonderful, wonderful people. The hotel itself is also a great value with large rooms, comfortable beds and lovely restrooms. I would recommend it to anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodation in Stone Town.
Review 13:We had to leave early, before breakfast time, but the staff offered to make us something, which was a nice gesture. In the morning it turned out there wasn't anything to eat or drink and the only staff member around was sound asleep. We had to pay when checking in, but they had no change then, so they promised to give it to us later. They never did. When I asked for it when leaving, the guy didn't know anything about this - and didn't have change either. So there was no breakfast and they compensated for it by taking our money (not a lot, but still).
Review 14:The location is great and the place is decent value for money given Stone Town prices. The bed was good and the free wi-fi worked well.
Review 15:It was hard to find the hotel even with GPS, but local people helped us.
Review 16:Close to harbour.
