Reviews for Africa House Hotel
Review 1:I though it will be a good place to honeymoon but they lied 3 times. no driver was in the airport, and my booked room was extended. they said they will give me another room in near hotel at the same rank, but it was too bad.
Review 2:Wifi occasionally erratic. I had a love/ hate relationship with the Sunset Terrace...good hospitable policy to open it to everyone and not have it exclusive to hotel guests, but I slightly resented lack of seat availability on some evenings, and particularly on my first night found the Western pop music out of character. It all gets a bit ' bling' which is out of character with the spirit of the hotel. i didn't have any good in the hotel other than breakfast as Zanzibar has such great eating opportunities outside hotels.
Review 3:An exceptional building in an amazing location. Particularly interesting for UK travellers as this was the old English Club. Trust them to nab some of the best features of the town! The staff were extremely helpful and kind. Housekeeping was first class, as was the individual service at breakfast. I stayed 5 days and felt cared for and ' at home' and felt overall it was exceptionally good value.
Review 4:The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. I loved the antique furniture. Also, the view (especially during sunset) from the Sunset Bar is simply amazing.
Review 5:Bathroom and general facilities are frayed around the edges, could do with an upgrade. Wifi internet poor.
Review 6:Breakfast was good, hotel location near the ferry.
Review 7:The spice tour organize through the hotel was intresting but in the end we found out that the guide was not real paid by the company who organize these tours , which was a real disappointment
Review 8:Good location plus fabulous sunset
Review 9:Very loud music played all night at nearby nightclub/ bar, "Shout" party.....completely ruined the whole experience!
Review 10:Location central to Stone Town, easy walking access to sights.
Review 11:The shower didn't land in the bath, so the bathroom floor got very wet - they bought me another bath-mat as mine was soaked. The TV reception was awful, but worked enough for me to listen to the news. The snacks available at the sunset bar could have been much better. The bed was very comfy, but the pillows were overstuffed, so you almost ended up upright - I ended up sleeping without a pillow.
Review 12:The location is great for looking around stonetown. I had a deluxe room which was lovely with a big bed, and very pretty. The staff were helpful and friendly. The sun-set bar has a stunning view, but get there early, as it is very popular at sundown. I will definitely stay again.
Review 13:Rooms are 2 metres above the street. Access to rooms is thru the sunset bar. Worse of all, fake currency swap occured from our bags which were locked on our 2 day trip.original us dollars were replaced by fake us dollars and placed in exact location inside a locked suitcase. We realised it when everywhere we tried to exchange usd for tsh. Hotel cashier was interrogating and doubting us of carrying fake us dollars. Very poor customer service. The rooms have no safe and very secluded rooms. The hotel staff cannot be trusted.please be extra cautious.
Review 14:Location
Review 15:The bathroom floor was not very clean. The bath tap was full of stains and not clean. When taking a shower, although the curtain was closed, the water was leaking out until the middle of the bedroom. Also, although it was stipulated that the price included all taxes, I was charged 5% extra for paying by credit card!
Review 16:The hotel is located ideally in central town by the sea and not a narrow street like most other hotels. It offers one of the best location for sunset
Review 17:The location is great - well within walking distance of everything in Stone Town. The ambience - a blend of English colonial style and Arab/Swahili flavours - added to the charm of my stay
Review 18:Be aware that everywhere in Tanzania will charge you a 5% surcharge for using your credit card. That's fine but on the morning we were checking out their machine didn't work and the expectation was we could just pay cash. I left them my credit card number to process the payment when they fixed the machine and have since had problems with fraud. I can't say for certain it was from this hotel but it's highly suspicious. It's unfortunate that one experience tainted what was otherwise a really lovely holiday.
Review 19:This is a fabulous hotel in a fabulous location. The sunset bar is a lovely place to unwind and watch the sunset. Staff were helpful and the rooms clean and comfortable.
Review 20:Their CC machine did not work when I needed to check out and then I was over charged on my card. Best to pay by cash.
Review 21:Staff were always helpful and friendly, decor was beautiful and the place was always clean.
Review 22:We had a room with the windows to the main street - very noisy. Ask for the room in the rooftops area.
Review 23:Good location, good breakfast, some rooms are nice
Review 24:The bathroom facilities in the room were sub standard. Towel rack fell off the wall, no shower screen for the bath. Getting fresh towels took all day - may have been bad timing due to washing/drying but annoying when you want to wash!
Review 25:The room was spacious and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Great location too.
Review 26:They took 100% of the bill from our bank account. They then said they had opnly taken for 1 room so we paid them another 90 dollars They then chased us donw the street saying we had not paid a bar bill the night before , hwhich we had bpaid in cash Chaos!
Review 27:The bar was Ok
Review 28:When we arrived we were told that there wasn't a room with twin beds available even though we had booked well in advance. We had a single room with a mattress on the floor for the first night.
Review 29:It was a good location. Easy access to the main area of Stone Town.
Review 30:Bathrooms could have been a little better.
Review 31:The location has got to be as good as it gets for Stone Town. At the sea with stunning picturesque views. Close proximity to restaurants, bars, shops etc. Right next door to 6 Deg South - a great place to hang out with live music, great mojito's! Lovely terrace to watch the sea from. Drinks flow and a vibrance about the place. View from the sea facing rooms ... wow!
Review 32:This is going to sound harsh even though we had a great stay but is it possible to be over friendly! The staff were bordering irritating at times - theres nothing wrong with being helpful but theres a thing called a persons personal space and the guys here certainly do not understand this :)
Review 33:Breakfast wasn't much although the view at the breakfast restaurant was really good. It'd be nice if room cleaning was done earliest
Review 34:The sunset bar It view of the ocean Proximity to the whole of stone town
Review 35:The plumbing left a bit to be desired and the wifi was a bit chaotic butapart from that a lovely place.
Review 36:This was the old British Club and has a lot of charm. The location issuperb where you benefit from the tranquility of the sea views but arestill in the heart of stone town and a short walk to the port (20mins).The staff are charming albeit that things take time to happen but thisis Africa and its nice to slow down.
Review 37:The room we had booked was given to another guest when we arrived. There was plenty of noise and the athmosphere did not match the surroundings. Expensive for what it was. Especially the braksfast was poor.
Review 38:The manager tried to solve the problem by compensation. Location of the hotel is good
Review 39:Staff, mainly the trainees, sometimes confused the boundaries between being friendly and being over familiar. There was meat in what was specifically asked for as vegetarian food.
Review 40:Great location, staff very friendly, room fine. Thought it was good value for money.
Review 41:We changed rooms in the middle of the night (tuesday-night) because of the noise. The rooftop bar is right on top of the rooms so noise of moving wooden chairs until 24hrs and under the rooms there's a discotheque every tuesday & friday apparently until 3 am?! As if we were sleeping on the disco floor... Restaurant prices are high and not a superb cuisine.
Review 42:The location is very nice and close to the city center. Staff very helpful and friendly.
