Reviews for Stay on Main

Review 1:The property was rather un-kept for the most part; major upgrades to the living quarters are needed. And parking was a nightmare; the idea of a hotel not having a lot or a lot with "in & out" privileges, is absurd.

Review 2:I liked the concept of the property and the history behind it.

Review 3:Shared bathrooms were unclean and hard to operate for international travellers. Breakfast hours could be more flexible.

Review 4:Provided breakfast was very handy. Friendly and helpful staff to assist us with our stay, and book shuttles and help with bags.

Review 5:The hostel room was dungeon like and dark. The floors were not clean and by night, the toilets were nasty.

Review 6:The hostel had a great common area. Staff were helpful.

Review 7:Shared bathroom is really the only negative to this place.

Review 8:Great value and location. Shuttle to airport provided, free wifi, free computers provided, nice clean modern room.

Review 9:I had a great experience, just sketchy neighborhood at night, only took a lyft after dark (5pm)

Review 10:Bus routes very easy to use, having TV, wifi, place to be alone, value for Downtown Los Angeles!

Review 11:There was a constant pounding construction noise since early in the morning.

Review 12:Yes, it's a hostel and te value for money is great for being in downtown LA. The staff is very cool and helpful, the rooms and shared areas are spotless and the location is great.

Review 13:receptionist was trying to sell hotel packages, gave us wrong information. breakfast was just cereal and tasteless waffles. the neighbourhood is very sketchy, it felt unsafe at times.

Review 14:cheap hotel, lower your expectations. rooms are decent, washrooms and showers are OK

Review 15:Area was somewhat scary in certain places. if you travelled along 7th street it was fine but down 6th,5th there were more suspicious characters. Was quite loud but I am guessing most of LA is like that

Review 16:Staff were friendly. Free wifi. Only a short walk to train station and buses. Public transport quite good and cheap. Breakfast was fine- choice between waffles or cereal

Review 17:No bathrooms in rooms you have to use public restrooms and toilets no hotel parking and none of this was informed to me before booking .

Review 18:It's location

Review 19:No bathroom in room, was not aware of that when booking room. Shared bathrooms were dirty. Bed was really uncomfortable. Continental breakfast only had cereal and waffles. Long wait for check in and breakfast. No parking for entire hotel.

Review 20:The lobby was nice, check in staff was friendly.

Review 21:Bad stories about the past of this hotel.. Criminal activities happened there that had them fo change the name of the hotel.. Not clean and the showers are the worst

Review 22:I booked a room through booking.com. There was no gender option for the room. I arrived and I was told I cannot stay in the reserved room because I am the opposite gender. In the end I have to upgrade my booking. In addition, the receptionists are not efficient and it took me 1.5 hour to check in.

Review 23:Nil

Review 24:The bathrooms and showers were tiny and minimalistic. The bathroom was small with no ventilation. The shower was so minimal there wasn't even a hook to hang towels or cloths. To make things worse, the shower didn't drain well. I hope my experience was unusual because I can't imagine others putting up with that kind of shower.

Review 25:The location is great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pancake breakfast and coffee were great. The private rooms are comfortable although the lighting was very poor.

Review 26:The experience right from the start was bad. The young gentlemen working at the front desk were all over the place, which I can understand due to being New Year's Eve. The man checking us in informed me my card had been declined, which I knew was a mistake, so I asked him to enter in the information once more and it went through. He didn't even apologize for his mistake. The room itself was a joke! No bathrooms and poor quality of everything from the carpet to the paper thin sheets. I will never stay here again!

Review 27:The lobby was nice.

Review 28:Hotel look okay from outside and Inside is horrible room are little and cozy ,dirty should refurbish look like very old and in poor condition. Even in bathroom they don't have air passing vein.

Review 29:Nothing it's was not as we pay.

Review 30:Room are dirty and smelly. We have to change room 2 times becauseheating is not provided in room number 1406. after telling too manytimes no action taken. At reception the guy name toni highlyunprofessional as he giving reasons for everything rather fixing smallproblems which is part of his responsibility. Cleaning staff startmaking noise from 5 am highly unprofessional. Neighbourhood is dirty andnot safe to move around after 6Pm. One must check heating system if itis working properly and not making any noise. As the building is veryold heating system is outdated.

Review 31:Nothing

Review 32:The cleanliness and the rooms. The rooms are very small and smelly. Bath shower didnt have water with enough force that you can take bath. I will never ever recommend or book this hotel again.

Review 33:The entrance of hotel is good and location rest eveything is pathetic.

Review 34:They claim there is restroom and shower in the room but it is actually outside the room on the opposite side of the hotel.

Review 35:Placement of the hotel directly in the city center

Review 36:Worst place on earth. Hair stinky SHARED BATHROOM. Your Room doesn't have an Attached bathroom

Review 37:The location is really good and basically every street near us have key buses to famous cites. Sunday have farmers market nearby which is really good and cozy.

Review 38:The bathrooms are very awkward, and bringing flip flops for toilet runs would be a great idea. Also, the beds aren't very comfortable; I'd recommend bringing your own pillows and a spare blanket.

Review 39:If your going to the fashion district this place is perfect! So close it makes taking trips to drop off fabric super easy!

Review 40:The rooms very tired and in need of a renovation, paint job Oh, the city noisescape...i felt like i was in a Hollywood movie...lol (not the hotel's fault though)

Review 41:the foyer has some lovely old features. so glad the hotel kept them. proximity to bus routes for the city...just a few steps from the door. proximity to "the last bookshop" (cnr of 4th and Spring for all you bibliophiles) and some amazing eateries great value for downtown LA

Review 42:parking is very scarce they do have velet but at a price and vending machines are a bit on the pricier side. the term shared bath room is a public communal bathroom and not a bathroom shared amongst rooms. the surrounding city streets seem unsafe but nothing can hide the smell

Review 43:cleanness and friendly staff, location is great to get around to Hollywood and surrounding area's

Review 44:poor internet connection :)

Review 45:Very friendly stuff! We got a quite room on 12th floor, clean and comfortable; very good location (great spot to see LA Downtown); breakfast snack included in the price of the room,

Review 46:Need bigger pillows and clearer tv signal ...breakfast should be before 730

Review 47:The staff was helpful, the room was well kept, and overall just everything was excellent .

Review 48:It was like being at camp/ a cozy jail cell. Shared bathroom situation was very uncomforting, and there wasn't even a sink in any of the restrooms and on top of that there was no drain for water from the shower to drain into. So you were litterally standing in a large puddle of water that took up most of the bathroom. Out of date equipment. Key cards kept malfunctioning, elevator didn't work a couple times, t.v. didn't work, advertized parking provided and was actually $20 a night, breakfast was cheap quality. Also the whole hotel had pipes, wires, and outlet housings exposed. Very ghetto and unpleasant. A motel would have been better kept/ constructed

Review 49:The staff and the foyer

Review 50:The staff need customer service training especially the abrupt security guards.

Review 51:It is within walking distance to downtown's best attractions. The room was comfortable and clean enough. There is an excellent cinema type room which could be described as a 'netflix and chill' area for relaxing which I used once.

Review 52:The staff were extremely rude. We arrived LA late and they refused to serve us so we ended up checking in a dodgy motel in the middle of nowhere in our first night. We didn't have internet so it was a real struggle. We came back the next day (I really don't know why!) the room they gave us had a blockage in the bathroom sink and shower. As we informed them when we were leaving the hotel to do sightseeing they told us to go back and transfer our belongings to the new room they gave us - as we said we were actually going out, they argued us. The whole stay was a struggle. Staff at reception were not helpful at all. Plus the location is one of the worst - it is city center but the street was full of homeless drug addicts. It was an intimidating experience and I don't recommend anyone to stay in downtown LA neither in this hostel (yes it is a hostel).

Review 53:I didnt like anything about this hotel (it is actually a hostel)

Review 54:Position of the hotel was good except if you walked in the wrong direction you felt like you were going to get stabbed. Included breakfast was average, and shared bathroom/toilet was tiny.

Review 55:Location was good and staff were very helpful.

Review 56:Location isn't nice (which isn't their fault) - downtown is dodgy and gross.

Review 57:Fabulous room which accommodated perfectly for jetlag. Room very soundproof from outside noise.

Review 58:The bed is not very comfy, but that made me start my day earlier (6:00 am)!

Review 59:I liked all the information available. Breakfast is simple but will help to start the day with energy. There is a metro station near the hotel. Staff is amazing, they are very friendly, helpful and interested in helping.

Review 60:Breakfast is awfull only waffels available, No bread, no fruits, no ham, nor cheese. You will need to pay additional 13 USD to have your breakfast outside the StayOnMain

Review 61:Nice and helpful people at the reception

Review 62:Had to move original room near elevator due to at least 4x per minute elevator banging through walls. Moved to second room, mattress not as good as initial room, and tv had shoddy to poor reception. Maintenance was called and gave me the "what's wrong with that picture" attitude. Well, basically, at a $30 per night hovel you'd probably expect a tv like that, yet for the $70 + tax they get ($80+) not a deal. More of a steal, of your money. On checkout morning one of two elevators inoperable. Do Not Stay Here Unless You are Near Homeless or Stranded in LA with minimal funds. Any Motel 6 smokes this dump by comparison. Great Marketing; Horrible Stay.

Review 63:Nothing.

Review 64:Just the many homeless outside, could not leave the hotel without being bombarded with the pee smell or them trying to get money from you.

Review 65:I loved the employees, very friendly and helpful. The complimentary movie room, workout room, and games.

Review 66:Breakfast was too basic. More options needed.

Review 67:When we checked in we were served by a guy called Eliu. He was awesome. so helpful, explained all we needed to know about where to go and what to do in l.a including bus numbers and shuttle lines.

Review 68:I didnt like how only two people work front desk. Other than that the staff is very helpful. Stay on Main is GREAT!!

Review 69:I love the lobby and the music. I also enjoy having enough computers availible. The decor is also very upbeat and modern. A cool stay

Review 70:Very slow check in. Really noisy room, location is so close to main street. The room are very hot even in october, off course no air conditioning. The sower is wet and nasty all the time

Review 71:The location is good, but in evening too much homeless around this place. Breakfast is nice

Review 72:their is no refrigerator,no air conditioner, small dirty shower, small room totally not like what had be seen in web site the hotel very old plz be more onset to write that in your web site

Review 73:the reception is so kinds specially Gabril and Jody

Review 74:The room elas loked for a long time , it have a strong smell. Te floor let my socs All in black. But the bed its super confortáble ande the shared toilet its super clean

Review 75:I had to wait 1 hr to get checked-in, there was just not enough staff, rooms are ok, shared facilities rather poor and a bit dirty

Review 76:Located in downtown, perfect to explore that part of the city

Review 77:Poor workmanship. Peeling plaster on walls painted over with gloss paint. Taps are from 60's and rusted. Shower is a temp fix cause rusted pipes will not hold a shower head, it is tied to a grill, somehow working. Poor, I do not think this could be rented. We fall into a trap. With $100 more we would have been staying in a four star. This place is ripe for extreme renovation or demolition

Review 78:TOO MANY BEGGARS in the street outside of the hotel. The smell of marijuaha is quite strong.

Review 79:It's cheap and it is located not too far from subway. Cafe Artisans is located very near, it's open till 11 pm, and is pretty good. In the hotel there are shared kitchens with fridges, and also shared laundry.

Review 80:It was a very depressing place. I was happy to get out of the hotel and LA downtown. The hotel is located right on the edge (or maybe not even the edge) of a very dodgy area were homeless people are camping on streets. There are 80.000 homeless people in LA and it felt as if they were all living in the area. The room was very small and old. The LA tour guide told us that a girl was killed in that hotel not long ago. I got tempted by a really good price and nice pictures of the lobby but it was a gruesome experience. Next time I would just pay more and get better place, out of Downtown altogether.

Review 81:Staff was nice and pleasant, lobby was decent. Access to the computer with Internet.

Review 82:Do you have parking? If not then that's what I don't like. Oh and the vending machine, no ice? Didn't ask, but didn't see ice bucket.

Review 83:Clean attention to comfort, nice touches. ie: fluffy thick towels, plenty of tissue, cups, clock, iron and board, TV though poor reception, security, reading lights, ceiling fan, heater. All that good little things and the beds and bedding? Sheer comfort cuddly. I'm telling my sister right now to pick a date to come stay there together for a visit. Keep up the good work, Kim Goraya

Review 84:Wi-fi, breakfast, cleanliness = AWFUL! Didn't clean the room on one night, called and told the staff, and they said that they would bring up fresh towels, and clean sheets for us to use, and they never did! Completely disrespectful, and not sanitary. There were homeless people sleeping inside when we came in on two nights, made it very uncomfortable for my girlfriend and I when they kept asking for money, and food.

Review 85:Location was ideal for the visit, had an event at the convention center. Thinking that it would be nice to stay close.

Review 86:Breakfast was poor. Waffles (and not very good), three types of cereals, some powdery mixture of orange juice, water and coffee. No fruit, no bread, no muffin (those don't cost that much honestly, I'd rather have those than what the home made waffles that weren't that great). No AC and it was hot and humid. I couldn't sleep for the first nights especially since they kept on closing our window during the day which prevented the cooler air from the outside to get in. No ventilation in the small bathroom so the hot, humid air from there was getting in the bedroom as well.

Review 87:It was cheap. They have a laundry, which was very handy.

Review 88:It's been two weeks since I checked out, I've emailed the hotel twice and I still haven't received my security deposit back after being told I would be receiving it

Review 89:You have to use key cards even to enter the toilets and showers and there are no sinks inside, only in your room. No air conditioning either, only a fan, which would be okay in fall and winter, but not during other seasons. Also, the receptionists take very long for every process.

Review 90:It was truly a downtown experience, and there were multiple bus lines really close to the hotel.

Review 91:Maybe this establishment needs stronger bed frames...cuz me and my friend snapped the wood frame in half...lol

Review 92:Your staff is so much more friendly and accommodating than the past staff. Thanks for listening.

Review 93:the (bloody)red chair in the room should be removed from all rooms. golden, green and blue are better colour for fengshui though. one from our group comment about the spider decoration in the front desk, spiders are poisonous, should bring some more harmonious items to the hotel

Review 94:very friendly and helpful staffs. the room is very clean. spacious shower and toilet area, newly renovated. the wiffi was working well in our room

Review 95:NO AIR CONDITIONING!!!! It was over 100 degrees in LA during our stay with no reprieve at night. The temperature made our stay terrible. I would think that with all of the new renovation of the hotel the powers that be would have found it appropriate to install aircon .l..it is 2015 after all; one would think this was more of a need than a desire.

Review 96:I liked the lobby and all of the thoughtful things this hotel has done to make staying there more enjoyable.

Review 97:Shared shower. Room was tiny. Continental breakfast consisted of 1 waffle & Tampico drink. There was no air conditioning. The room used two fans in 100 degree weather that circulated the same hot air. The shared shower was in fine print via booking.com, the shared shower was not clean. However the manager was nice once we complained & she did accommodate us for our discomfort.

Review 98:Not much

Review 99:no a/c in the rooms no parking bums outside asking for money no bathroom in the room no shower in the room no fan in the room check in took 45 minutes/only 4 people in line

Review 100:The neighbourhood was not very inviting to stay out late and catch the metro home. And the shared bathrooms were very disgusting and smelt bad a lot of the time

Review 101:The location was easy to get to other atractions in LA. And staff were very friendly when helping us with our needs.

Review 102:I've been staying here on Stay on Main most of the summer, because I travel for work I wanted to find a place that was comfortable and affordable. I found this place to be much more than that. I started staying here in late June and I keep coming back. The staff is pretty great, I've come to make friends with a couple of them so when I come back it almost feels like home. The rooms are extremely comfortable, and the number of amenities they offer are great. I especially enjoy sitting in the theater room exploring Netflix. I always look forward to coming back here, as my trip comes to an end, I'm positive that I will miss coming to this place.

Review 103:The rooms are really poor, small, dark, dirty, smelly We asked for a different room what we never do, got a brighter and bigger one but this time we had white stains on the sheet what looked like sperm!!!! The housekeeping is done in 2 minutes with your room, they make the bed+change the towels and that's it. Forget about clean bathroom or toilet, I doubt they are cleaned even between the guests The bed was very noisy, when my boyfriend turned around next to me I had a feeling that he is jumping on the bed The breakfast is a joke! You have waffles, cereals and end of the story The surrounding area is full of homeless people and drug addicts, the whole street smells of urine

Review 104:Not far from metro station, the staff tries to help you the best they can

Review 105:Rooms are very old, and it s very noisy outside the window. breakfast is poor and totally useless

Review 106:Good location for downtown, but if you have few days in LA better to choose another area to stay, and downtown you may visit by any chance with metro access

Review 107:the room was awful. i ordered room with 2 twin beds and private restroom. i've been in 6 different hotels in the last 2 weeks in California, and this one has the worst rooms ever. Had a strange and ugly smell, very small, very old.

Review 108:the open facilities. the hotel looks nice, has a private cinema, ping pong table and a foosball table.

Review 109:It was in a historic place, so it can seem a little ghetto at times. And there is the unfortunate smell of urine on the streets. Also, the hotel's bathrooms and toilets are separate, small, and needed room keys to access, which can be annoying.

Review 110:It was downtown so there were bus stops everywhere. And it was very close to historic Broadway theatres, little Tokyo, Chinatown, Disney concert hall, etc. There were interesting things to see just within the region itself.

Review 111:No AC, bed was hard. Staff took forever. Toilet closet and tiny showers were shared with the whole floor. Carpet was so dirty, it felt sticky. Over all cleanliness was pretty gross. I spent way too much money. $50$ deposit that can take up to 3 months to be returned. $85 for the room.

Review 112:I got really shocked by the breakfast. All the dishes are plastic, and for a single use. I find that really sad to throw away all that plastic while it's not even a take away breakfast. I barely even wanted to have breakfast just to avoid all that waste.

Review 113:Airline company lost our luggage, and the staff was really helpful with that. Private Bedroom is really fine for the price, it's clean and safe.

Review 114:wifi is poor I can say there is not wifi at all, because you have to wait 15mins until open the page. There is it air condition. Very poor rooms.

Review 115:Location and price!

Review 116:- old furniture, not too comfy beds - no AC, but there's a big fan on the ceiling - the shared bathrooms look terrible - Wi-Fi doesn't work in the room, even if you have signal

Review 117:- good location, downtown LA, close to many buses - has a parking lot right near the hotel, but it's 15$ per night - the bathroom was ok (not the shared bathroom) - price is ok for the location

Review 118:Too much money spent on making the entrance too nice and the rooms poorly. Bathroom are discussing not cleaned well. Same goes for the bathrooms. (They are separate from each other) Not to mention they aren't cleaned very often and they are not ventilated. The hotel has no A/C & the fans they have in the rooms hardly work.

Review 119:nothing

Review 120:I didn't like the breakfast or the hotels gruesome past under the name Cecil hotel....I was a little creeped out

Review 121:I liked the location in downtown LA! Really close to union station. I stayed in 6bed hostel room which was spacious and comfortable and clean.

Review 122:staff was very kind, bathroom was small, the metro station was a little bit far, the service of the breakfast was very slow, our room was very close to the toilett of the corridor and it was noisy

Review 123:staff was very kind,

Review 124:Shared bathroom is totally what we did't want but there were plenty of them on the floor and they were pretty clean. That hotel is just one block away from a high concentrated homeless area - so while walking to the subway you meet a lot of homeless and crazy people talking to themselves but good thing they are harmless.

Review 125:That was the best prise for a hotel in downtown area that you can get! Lobby looks like a 4 star hotel but when you get to the room it's a bit different. Rooms are good to sleep in, nice beds, TV, wifi, your own sink in a room, pretty quite, the hotel was all booked but we barely met or hear our neighbours. 5 minuets walk to Pershing Square metro station - short way to the Union Square, same line to go to Hollywood, Universal Studious, Griffith Observatory. Very friendly and helpful staff!!! Grocery stores are all around that hotel so as couple of nice bars and restaurants. Downtown LA, City Hall is a 10-20 minutes walk

Review 126:Breakfast was terrible, very limited choice. No air conditioners in rooms make it hard to sleep at night with temperature 75+ degrees!! Showers and toilets were horroble...

Review 127:Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 128:How can a hotel not have air-conditioning??? The heat was unbearable making the room useless for an afternoon respite, the provided fans useless outside their force-field. The street is extremely noisy but the window had to say open even during the night. Despite a $250 fine for smoking, I was awakened at 4:30 a.m. last Friday with smoke coming thru the vent in the bathroom. I reported it to the front desk! Hotel policy states in writing the $50 key deposit will be refunded at check-out when it really takes 7-10 days. I am enormously unhappy and dissatisfied with Stay On Main and I request an immediate refund!

Review 129:I just didn't like that my room looked exactly opposite of what I viewed online. Should maybe be a bit more upfront of what rooms are available.

Review 130:I really liked the ambiance of the place, the music in the lobby was awesome also!

Review 131:It was too hot in the room. Maybe a different type of fan or air conditioning could solve the problem.

Review 132:It is close to shops and cafes. We could do our laundry.

Review 133:Pics on the hotel's homepage border on forgery and give a very biased view of the actual layout of (at least some of) the rooms. A couple we met in the lobby cancelled the rest of their stay after the first night and moved to a different hotel. We stayed the four days planned but would have appreciated accurate photos on the homepage.

Review 134:Welcoming staff, good service and location, free wi-fi.

Review 135:The prson who checked me in basically charged me extra money for my room the fact that i have to wait for my money for the deposit to be put back on my card for 2 - 7 days

Review 136:I like the overall feel of the rooms i stayed in here the beds were very comfy. The first room i booked was a queen bed and the next room i got was a twin room i like both of them.

Review 137:The hotel was right on skid row sureounded by homeless people! The hotel HAD to have security!

Review 138:The staff were nice and honest. Especially when they reminded me to not go outside at night because the hotel is on skid row!

Review 139:Could not pass this hostel/hotel for value for money.an atmosphere as soon as u step inside the lobby. We had a private room ensuite as we were a couple.location is great with a short underground to Hollywood and many other top places to go in LA
