Reviews for Heartland Inn Coralville

Review 1:When we checked into the room the bedding was in poor condition and hanging off of the beds. The bed skirt on one of the beds was laying on the floor. The bathroom sink was not cleaned out. The rack to hang clothing on was mounted so it hung partially over one of the beds. Staff at the front desk was rude to me and other customers.

Review 2:The pillows were miserable. The free breakfast very average.

Review 3:Friendly folks, good location, nice touch of cookies &the art soup 5-7. Good sized rooms.

Review 4:location in a shopping mall, absolutely unbearable smell of chemical air fresheners (as in so many of the chains!) very uninspired staff and atmosphere

Review 5:nothing

Review 6:Strange location behind a restaurant Parking challenging due to lot shared with other vendors

Review 7:Very pleasant and accommodating - cheerful greeting / responded immeduately to a request. Convenient to restaurants and shopping.

Review 8:expensive for the amenties toiletries are AWFUL, must remember to pack my own shampoo next time

Review 9:close enough to walk to the football game very clean breakfast is good staff is friendly

Review 10:The property itself, both inside and outside could use some updating. The room was large enough that comfortable chairs or loveseat would have been a big plus.

Review 11:The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet.

Review 12:Our room smelled, the elevators also smelled. The vending area on our floor was not lighted. Things are a little shabby, needs some updating.

Review 13:The staff were pleasant and the free meals good.

Review 14:Price seemed a little high for what you received. Breakfast area seemed small. Not enough tables.

Review 15:Location was great. Close to the university. Staff was friendly. Breakfast options was good.

Review 16:the carpet in the hallway and elevator either needs cleaned or new put in. it looked terrible. I was afraid my room was the same, it was much better. I will stay there again if need to.

Review 17:I needed to pick up my husband from the hospital. Your shuttle service was invaluable for us so I didn't need to drive through construction or park in expensive lots. After a quiet night, we were ready to return home.

Review 18:Our room was on the second floor. We unfortunately were woken up at 4:30 a.m. by the guests above us and listened to them stomp around and bang doors for an hour. By then we couldn't fall back to sleep. We understand this hotel caters to individuals visiting the hospital there and perhaps these guests had an early procedure that required them to rise early in the morning. However, I think these guests should be given the lower floors so they do not disrupt the other guests quiet time. We had a 10-hour drive ahead of us and really needed that extra sleep. This was the only thing we didn't like about the hotel.

Review 19:Everything was clean and people friendly.

Review 20:It was very dark and there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the halls because outside doors to smoking areas were propped open. The pool area had such strong chlorine we couldn't breathe there so decided not to use the pool.

Review 21:It was convenient regarding location. There were restaurants just a short walk away. Breakfast had a decent selection.

Review 22:The location. Very close to my daughter's apartment and university. I've stayed at several other hotels in the area and so far this has been the best value.

Review 23:PILLOWS-"VERY POOR" / SHOWER HEAD / THEY COULD CUT THEIR H2O BILL BY 1/3+ WITH A "WATER SAVER" SHOWER HEAD ! / *(NO, I DON'T SELL SHOWER HEADS).....

Review 24:LOCATION / PRICE / SHOWER WATER PRESSURE /

Review 25:Parking a little tight!

Review 26:Wonderful staff, very helpful and did fix a few things for me. Many nice carts to bring in luggage. Loved having a staff member make pancakes & waffles in the morning.

Review 27:Great place, great location, great price!!!! Awesome staff!!!!! I was super tired and they joked around with me and made me feel better! Even upgraded me to an awesome suite for free!!!!

Review 28:My 4 yr old found a giant hair ball in our microwave and there was a dirty diaper in the pool with poop smeared all of the side of the pool.

Review 29:We liked it was close to the hosptial.

Review 30:The guest service lady was not very friendly when we checked in. The downstairs hallways smelled like smoke and no mater where we exited the building there were several people smoking right outside the door. At 9pm the side entrances to the hotel were unlocked making it possible for anyone to enter the hotel. In general the building did not seem to be well maintained. The room and lobby were ok- there were things that were updated in our room like the bathroom countertop with old hardware and beat up doors. The bedding was old and dated. We stayed in a hotel for $5 cheaper in Lincoln NE that was twice as nice and well kept and clean throughout. We were very disappointed!! The room cost us $95 (which was 44% off) but knowing now what it was like I would never have paid more than $50.

Review 31:Near the highway

Review 32:We arrived here after a 21 hour flight from Europe, only to find that our room had been given to a wedding party. The staff were unpleasant and unapologetic. My husband and I were extremely disappointed. Instead, we went to the nearby Baymont Inn, which was less expensive (though just as nice, with a pool, great rooms and great breakfast). The staff at Baymont were lovely & very helpful. We both highly recommend the Baymont Inn instead of this place.

Review 33:Air conditioner did not work. The bathroom door wouldn't shut. The hallways were dirty. Floor in bathroom dirty. The breakfast area was poorly laid out. Almost impossible to even get to food. When I told front desk about the air conditioning he said, '"I would like to give you some discount but I can't because you used Booking.com'. Now I wonder if we got thero we did because of the way we booked. Very disappointed in the two night stay. Parking was very bad in the area of hotel we were in.

Review 34:Location was good for our event.

Review 35:They contacted us when we were 2 hours from their location and told us because of maintenance, they did not have rooms for us. They then called and said they had reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights for us at Best Western which was right around the corner from them. When we went to check in the Best Western only had 1 room available. I contacted the Homestead Inn and told them and they were able to get us rooms at another location and they comped 1 night for both rooms. I was upset that they didn't contact us until the day we were to check in and caused us stress as we were driving.

Review 36:When we took a shower, with the stopper up, we got at least 3" of water in the tub. When I just urinated and only used about 4 squares of toilet paper, the toilet did not flush it down. When my daughter used it for her bowels, the water came up clear to the top and nearly overflowed.

Review 37:It's nice that they provide breakfast and supper.

Review 38:the place is a bit old, could use a facelift, it also has a hospital smell, possibly because there seemed to be a lot of senior citizens there with something to do with coming and going from hospital, either way it meant breakfast was extremely busy and cramped with no tables left!

Review 39:Value for money, friendly staff, plenty of choices for dinner around, nice walk up over the spillway too, and fireflies (if that's what they were) in the park across the river

Review 40:We had a group of 15 family members staying at the hotel. The hotel has three patios in back for guest to use, so we used one for our lunch set up. Also, we were able to use the breakfast eating area during the afternoon and night to complete some crafts with the family. The only thing I would change is that if you book in a block of rooms that you are all located next to each other.

Review 41:They lied and said they had to switch my reservation to another hotel because of maintenance problems when in reality it was because they overbooked. Wasn't a big fan of the being lied to.

Review 42:1)Eating breakfast while smelling strong Lysol when staff was mopping floors. Would have been polite to wait until people were gone from the tables. It made for a very unpleasant breakfast 2)Taking a shower and having bathtub fill up with water even though it was unplugged 3)Bed was too soft and pillows felt like marshmallows. 4)Uncomfortable to see a policeman monitoring a room on 3rd floor at night and seeing a person/patient wearing a hospital mask.while boarding the bus to hospital in the morning. 5)Why bother with a pool if it is the size of a whirl pool. Fitness room would have been better option

Review 43:1)Frig and microwave 2)good size room 3)access to coffee at any time 4)room was clean 5) nice view of nature

Review 44:My room smelled a little bit and some food had been left in the refrigerator. The door handle into the bathroom was also a little bit broken, and the stick for the curtains was broken. Overall I had a very good stay though!

Review 45:Noisy--could here showers, toilets flushing, tvs and footsteps from adjacent rooms. These were not "party guests". Also had a lukewarm (at best) shower Saturday AM--pretty unpleasant.

Review 46:Very clean, comfortable bed, staff friendly and helpful

Review 47:Even though the room looked clean, it was not clean at all. You can find hair everywhere on the bed. It was very itchy the next day.. poor food!

Review 48:location, price

Review 49:The shuttle to and from the hospital was convenient and a huge stress relief. The free nightly supper was a big surprise, and very appreciated. The continental breakfast was nicely furnished was a variety of foods. The staff was great. Overall the place was very warm and inviting.

Review 50:We were there Because of a Hospital visit. We will be staying there again Because I will be in the hospital for a few days. The shuttle worked great. The light snack at night after driving 4 hours was perfect, & the breakfast was just enough to make it through the next day

Review 51:Bathtub had a sizeable chip in it and the noise of people walking up and down stairs all night was awful. Couldn't get much sleep. Can't say I would stay there again.

Review 52:Location was good and room and staff were good.

Review 53:I stayed for 4 nights and was so impressed with everything. The fact that an evening meal is served is a great plus, even though I was unable to take advantage of it. The shuttle service to the hospital is excellent, and a great benefit in a stressful situation. The Heartland is a blessing to those visiting in the U of Iowa hospitals and clinics!

Review 54:All staff very welcoming and friendly, especially Wayne cooking the pancakes and waffles at breakfast! Excellent location with lots of restaurants nearby and easy to walk into Iowa City (approx 30 mins). Complimentary drinks available 24 hrs in the Reception area and snacks at tea time like hot dogs also provided which were very welcome. Very reasonably priced accommodation - good value for money.

Review 55:The facility itself needs a little TLC. But, it was comfortable. Housekeeping seemed to work around the clock -- maybe they need to add a few more positions to take care of the number of patrons they have -- but I am certainly NOT complaining about the ones they have. The water stinks...

Review 56:Staff (all staff) are second to none. Adsolutely, second to none. Also, the location is so convenient to so many businesses (Rx, restaurants, theaters, etc.). We felt safe and well cared for.

Review 57:Our room was excellent. The staff helpful and nice. The free breakfast had a lot of options. The motel was in walking distance to many restaurants and close to the hospital. We had forgotten an item in the room and they called to let us know.

Review 58:Small room, smelled funny in the room, no good closet space to hang clothes, no hook on bathroom door, thought it'd be better quality hotel.

Review 59:Breakfast options were very good

Review 60:Nothing--all was great!

Review 61:Very clean, staff was friendly &accommodating, facility modern, rooms well-equipped with everything you need. Price was great for the amenities you get.

Review 62:Despite the remodel, there was mold all over in my room. It was on the walls, in the bath tub, etc. You could smell it as soon as you walked in the room. You would think that if you did a remodel, you would just try to hide the mold by painting or caulking over the top of it. My daughter is allergic to mold and I had asked for a room above ground level to avoid this. Even on the second level, the mold was all over. I highly recommend taking care of the bigger issues with the mold rather than throwing up new pictures or head boards. Will not come back again.

Review 63:The overall look of the hotel seemed to be recently remodeled. Breakfast and WiFi.

Review 64:Sign by road was not lit as I drove into town after dark. Difficult to locate driveway amongst other businesses.

Review 65:Room was quiet. Didn't hear noise from surrounding rooms.

Review 66:The hallways need some attention, but it is just a factor of the large amount of visitors this hotel gets. They just look and smell a little tired. Other than that, I'd recommend this hotel as a good value conscious option.

Review 67:The breakfast bar was well stocked with fresh items and had a nice attendant. It was nice to have a large wide screen tv in the lobby to watch while I waited for uniforms to wash and dry. I'd definitely recommend this hotel as a good value option for a weekend stay.

Review 68:Getting out on the street is difficult, they could use a traffic light and the breakfast area is very crowded and difficult to get your food in the back and then get back though the tables, the breakfast is great though.

Review 69:The staff is very friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and smell good. Even though it is always busy it seems quiet.

Review 70:The lobby and halls were very hot, not comfortable to be in. Didn't like the lobby door not being automatic was difficult to bring in luggage and small children. There was no assistance at the door. One of the staff members was not very friendly, didn't appreciate that during check-in. It was just the one check in lady that was kind of rude and not friendly. I thought for the quality of the hotel, the price should of been about $10-15 less a night.

Review 71:Free breakfast and snacks. Good location from the University. Plenty of parking.

Review 72:Nothing really

Review 73:We arrived from the east coast into Iowa City around 10pm and exhausted. I'm always wary of neighborhoods at night especially with a loaded car and bikes on the back. But when we arrived the parking lot was large and safe and in a good safe neighborhood. The staff were super nice at check in and gave us a free upgrade to a suite!! I would definitely stay here again and it is well worth the money.

Review 74:I had reserved 2 rooms. When I checked in with my adult son,the desk said I had only reserved one room. She argued a bit, said they were very busy and might not be able to get me another room as thye had 3 wedding parties going on.I had also ask in reserving that the rooms be close to the elevater as I have constant leg pain when walking. After a bit more listening to the rude clerk,I pulled out my reservation papers. She then said, well I guess then it was not your mistake. She gets us another room but the rooms do not have connecting halls. You can not walk down the hall on 2nd floor and meet up with the other room.Room numbers 223 and 238.never heard of this before.it made much more walking and painful legs. You would think they could have put us on the same area. Wont stya there again. Also the pool is very very small

Review 75:The rooms were nice and the beds comfy

Review 76:pool very small. no hot tub. had to go down to first floor and through lobby to get to pool from our room on the second floor.

Review 77:fresh made waffles for complimentary breakfast. nice room.

Review 78:Room needed maintenance: Cover over shower head was loose & hanging. Drain for bathroom sink was slow & resulted in dirt from shaving being left on sides of sink

Review 79:Convenience of location

Review 80:I told them that I wanted a late check out and I stepped out if my room for an hour and the maid had already begun cleaning it up and I still had two hours left before I left. Poor communication on the staff part

Review 81:Convenient to UNIV of Iowa

Review 82:I love how the hotel gave us the kings suite when they ran out of king rooms! The hot tub in the room was amazing! Their breakfast was warm which I love. I had biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and eggs! They had plenty more as well! Super duper experience!

Review 83:The air conditioner in the room should have been turned down and the blinds closed. The sun was shining in and the room was warm.

Review 84:the hot breakfast bar, the evening meal they offered the night we arrived. close to the VA hospital with that said we will be back in a few weeks for the next trip to VA. US Navy veteran

Review 85:Shirtless drunk men with bottles of liquor walking around at same time as group of small children stating there. Staff should have insisted no open bottles and ni inebriated guests allowed!
