Reviews for Metro Plaza Hotel

Review 1:Good location for walking to nearby museums and cultural centers. The train station is also close. Parking was easy and affordable. It's a good place to stay if you don't need to spend much time in your hotel room.

Review 2:No bad things to say

Review 3:The staff was so nice and extremely polite! The location was also excellent and the $4 a day for parking was great because it was the cheapest!

Review 4:Staff is very nice and helpfull. Very well connected with bus to Santa Monica just in front, metro to Hollywood, union station across the street, chinatown, litle Tokyo and dowtown at walking distance.a nice mexican next door, and decent continental breakfast included.

Review 5:no bad experience. Little dated but the staff and location made up for it so not negative at all

Review 6:very friendly staff. Good location to Union Square for tram for last ever Motley Crue gid 31/12/15. Parking good for $4 per night

Review 7:When I arrived on first day, the first opened room (non-smoking room) has an obvious marijuana smell. So I got room updated.

Review 8:Convenient location, 5 min walk to Union station. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 9:excellent location. wonderful and very kind employees. Also excellent service. Love the free coffee and wifi. I have booked another room for the month of May.

Review 10:There was smoking in a few rooms on 3rd floor. That gives the whole floor a bad odor.

Review 11:The staff were so good. When we had a problem, they took care of it as a team.

Review 12:Found a roach in the bathroom on the last night. Where there is one there is more. They need to fix that right away.

Review 13:The location is perfect if you like visiting China Town, Little Tokyo and Overa Street for Mexican. Union Station was also close by, pretty much everything was with in a 1 mile walking distance.

Review 14:I've stayed here a few times so know their standard. However, this time the room appeared to be a standby. There was no table near an outlet for my laptop. No chair to sit on by a table. I think it was room 400.

Review 15:Near Union Station. At station good shuttle connection to LAX. Near good food in Chinatown. Early coffee. Bottled water on each floor.

Review 16:Room was very basic for the money.

Review 17:Located very close to LA Union station with links to Metro and beyond. Room was quite basic for the money, but sufficient. Breakfast was very basic too, but there is a very good diner just down the road. Free tea/coffee all day.

Review 18:We had to go downstairs to make a coffee and go outside the room to get drinking water.

Review 19:I like the staff. Breakfast was awesome. Parking price is fair. Room is very clean. I will stay there at the next time.

Review 20:My room was beneath the standard that I was accustomed to. There was no chair for me to sit at their table and use my laptop. There was an old wooden table instead of the usual luggage stand.

Review 21:Location

Review 22:Breakfast is so so... Toast bread and some cupcakes..coffee... Air conditioner is bit outdated though still functioning. Lift need some services.

Review 23:If someone need to take a train from Union Station then it's very convenient as walking distance in 5minute..and just outside the hotel you have Subway meal.. I guess each floor have its own water dispenser (hot and cold) convenient for traveller to get drinks.. Hotel room is clean..

Review 24:Fitness Center that was displayed on the website was non-existent. No free weights and the weight machines were all broken. The Security Latch in my room was also broken.

Review 25:Nothing

Review 26:Central location by Union Square ideal for walking around the inner city. No services on top of a comfortable large room with excellent support cleaning staff. It suited me well and if accepted as having a bedsitting room for a week in central SF it is good value if the central location is your most important requirement

Review 27:Real thin walls, you guess the rest.

Review 28:Excellent location near Union Station with the bonus of being almost next to Phillipes.Staff cheerfully went out of their way for me.

Review 29:The breakfast was not good, it's included, but cereal, toast and spreads that tasted like they came out of a lab didn't feel like a nutritious start to the day. We chose to eat breakfast elsewhere the next day.

Review 30:Great location, next to Chinatown and Oliverie street (great Mexican), so there are some great places to eat nearby. It's not far to walk into the centre of downtown, or there is the B line dash bush for 50 cents. We had a bit of luggage (on wheels) and it was a very easy walk to Union Station to get our train to San Diego. Sure it's old, worn, but it's clean, the staff are great and the location is good.

Review 31:No problems

Review 32:I liked that it was very close to train station...the hotel was clean, very comfortable, and was a very nice place...should have a better rating.

Review 33:The noise level from the surrounding streets was loud at times and there is lot of activity at all times of the day. I wouldn't recommend this location for a quiet stay.

Review 34:Location was excellent, literally across the street from union station. Close to Olvera Street and very ideal for out of town travelers.

Review 35:It definitely didn't look like it's website pictures. I should have done more research on a review site. There was only one overworked reception person, it's kind of in a shady area, the room itself was pretty clean but shabby, and I think someone tried to come into my room that night through the adjoining door, so I didn't get a lot of sleep. plus, I needed an iron but they said I had to go down to the lobby to get it. and when I first checked in, a customer didn't have their remote for the tv. i wanted to go out and get a drink but honestly, i was a little scared of the area.

Review 36:close to the California endowment.

Review 37:Convenient to Union Station (and Phillipe's famous sandwich place!) and Chinatown restaurants. Comfortable room and bed. Easy to reach other places in Los Angeles by car or Metro.

Review 38:the fire alarm is part of other building apparently and was set off and wake us up in the morning but was a false alarm

Review 39:the budget price is ok, the location was central to travel anywhere, security inside was ok,the service desk were ok , i lost my access card and was replaced very quick

Review 40:It was impossible to use my laptop in my room. A very poor and very slow web connection. So slow that for each step you have to wait for almost four minutes.

Review 41:Near to railroad easy to reach to other districts.

Review 42:The hallways were miserably hot. There was no air conditioning at all. It was terrible for guests and staff.

Review 43:Location was great. Close to Union Station and Chinatown.

Review 44:I am a regular at this hotel. The facilities are a little shopworn, but the rooms are clean and the service is excellent. The buffet is a bit plain. The location near Union Station is perfect for my travel needs.

Review 45:Dated facilities. Only bar soap and liquid shampoo provided. Bar soap is almost impossible to use/ dissolve. Old-school aircon constantly humming.

Review 46:Didn't have much expectation for continental breakfast, but it was not bad - toast cereals bagels and juice. Water dispenser in lift lobby very useful

Review 47:The breakfast . If you're not going to give a good selection at least provide coffee creamer fresh and not in packets. Maybe boiled eggs . All cereal and bread

Review 48:Nice big room. Not too impressing on the outside of hotel but really surprised how nice and updated inside. Walking distance to everything. 2 miles to dodger stadium for a drive, don't walk.

Review 49:No cable connection for 6 days, area around hotel looks unsafe with homeless people, facilities kinda old outdated.

Review 50:Near Train station, very cordial staff, quiet, good internet speed.

Review 51:The decor is a little tired, but it's clean and all in working order

Review 52:The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. Free wifi, breakfast and all-day water & coffee. The rooms were spacious and clean. We felt safe at the hotel. The location was convenient for public transportation and close to china town, with no homeless people around.

Review 53:I only stayed for 1 night and had requested a quiet room. Instead I got a room at the front, right over the road (where you hear the cars and noise of the street very loudly). I asked whether that could be changed before going into town, when I returned I was told they had overlooked my request and were fully booked by now - so no help there. They allow people to smoke in the breakfast areas outside of breakfast hours and the room was not clean (the carpet was clearly not vacuumed). Moreover, in the morning when I was still packing the cleaning lady came in without knocking - and I had not yet checked out... very unprofessional.

Review 54:The location is good, in the sense that it is close to the Union Station and close to many attractions downtown. However, during your walk from the station to the hotel you pass many homeless people and the hotel is on the edge of a bad neigbourhood; thus beware if you are a solo female traveller.

Review 55:The breakfast was sparse Various breads Larger area needed for breakfast. Not enough space for all the guests

Review 56:Ideal hotel for Union Station Only 5-10 min walk(with luggage) to Union Station for buses and Amtrak trains

Review 57:The area surrounding Hotel. My kids didn't really feel safe.

Review 58:I used the hotel for one thing and that was to get my tour which I needed to be near another place for pick up. It was great being next to Union Station.

Review 59:The room airconditioner was so loud you could not put it on. The room was hot. Breakfast was not much choice.

Review 60:Close to the main station and easy to get around.

Review 61:Would have like more variety in television channels...very limited. The interior was a bit scruffy. A nice face lift would be an improvement.

Review 62:We liked that the MPH was very close to the train station.

Review 63:Air con was too noisy to run through the night.

Review 64:Great location for Union station, large comfortable room, very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Great bar behind the hotel with good food and real ales.

Review 65:Toilet backed up & was fixed quickly but floor was just mopped up with towels & not spray cleaned. Breakfast was adequate if you like cold cereal & white bagels & regular milk.

Review 66:We really liked the location. Very easy with Union Station a block or so away to go anywhere we wanted. Hotel staff were very nice.

Review 67:Tub drain was stopped up but they fixed it immediately. Had a problem with Wi-Fi.

Review 68:Very close to Union Station. Well maintained quality furniture and building. Friendly and accommodating staff. Reasonaby priced.

Review 69:Cold, inpersonable manner of front desk staff; rock hard bed, cheap, small towels, doors inside of the rooms that make too much noise when opening and closing the sound of which disturbs others all morning and night.

Review 70:The location

Review 71:On 25 Aug,15 when I checked out, the staff forced me to pay more 10usdollars,eventhough I showed the price that I booked with booking.com andI also inform that I tell the staff who checked in me he said ok. But inthe morning it was not ok when I check out. Why not ? I told him I bookcorrectly by put 3persons and system show 129us. Staff told me I hd tocomplain to you and I hd to pay more at that time. Please kindly investigate this case and let me know rush due I was very disappointed.

Review 72:Good location and continenton breakfast is nice.

Review 73:The staffs is quite friendly & helpful. Credit to Mr Gracia, Charlene etc (y). Great location: just in front Union Station (which we can go everywhere from there) & other facilities (mini markets, restaurants, china town etc)

Review 74:The location! We could go to some fine Chinese restaurants around the hotel. The staffs of the hotel were very kind, so we could spend the comfortable time.

Review 75:Rooms although smoking were very smelly. Windows should have been left open to allow the smell to be removed which I did for an hour and it was fine after that. Additional payment of $70 for 3 hour extension which in my opinion was too much.

Review 76:not much as on the web

Review 77:The internet was ridiculously slow. Coffee and tea making available but not in the room. If you need an iron you have to get one from reception.

Review 78:Very quiet and right next to Union Station. Bed is very comfortable and room is very quiet despite being in the city center. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 79:Door to bathroom wouldn't stay open Noise from street Not near many places to eat and shop Overpriced....should have been about $80-100/night

Review 80:employees breakfast space

Review 81:- hotel is tired, needs a refresh - WiFi is incredibly slow (to slow for Skype,, Netflix, YouTube, Facebook, Software download of 30MB took about six houers than timed out and was canceled at 60 percent, takes 3 min. to open) - staff unprofessional and nit friendly - breakfast really barebones and not worth any money - elevators smell as if somethings rotting in them - hotel tried to overcharge me (room prices on booking.com are higher than their price list)

Review 82:- Reasonably big rooms - clean

Review 83:This facility is tired and dreary BUT CLEAN! At check in I was asked to sign a Credit Card bill (one like we used to swipe 20 years ago). I declined to sign a blank one and was told I had to. Too tired to argue and signed it.

Review 84:Location to Amtrak station was excellent.

Review 85:Only the location was convenient, to walk to Chinatown.

Review 86:Front desk staff isn't professionally courteous as other hotels Ihave stayed in. I didn't not check this hotel out fully it'smore for Asian people, I guest because it's close to Chinatown. Thecleaning solution used to clean smells terrible, I was appalled of thetriple a plaque hanging on the wall for 2014. I would truly like tounderstand the criteria used for this award. The service wasn't thatof a visitors friendly hotel. It's more for Asian people I guest. Ialso cannot recall seeing any additional charge for children, plusparking. Was only aware of this on checking in at the front desk.thedoor keys wouldn't work, less than 30 minutes into our arrivalthere, had to go back to front desk and get new keys.nrxt day samething, I inadvertently had to visit that front desk 3 times for the sameissue. There's no microwave in the room, no coffee either, and thatwhatever cleaning solution scent terrible.

Review 87:the parking attendant was rude.

Review 88:i've been coming to this hotel since 1999. i cant say nothing much has changed since then. its one of the cleaner hotels, its close to the everything.

Review 89:A very scruffy woman who appeared to have lost her front teeth and was carrying a twelve pack of beer got in the lift as i was going to our room.A few unsavoury characters wer hanging around the reception area.

Review 90:Convenient location for onward train travel from union station

Review 91:The place was unfortunately not the most cleanest area including the rooms themselves. Our room had this awkward smell of fish that we couldn't get rid of..Not to mention the elevators broke on floor four.

Review 92:The place was very affordable and very close to major destinations within Downtown. Staff was also very helpful. The free breakfast every morning was also super wonderful.

Review 93:Walking distance to train station, Olvera St, and courthouse. Pleasant, helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Have stayed before, and will return.

Review 94:If you need internet to get things done online then get ready to wait. The speed is slooowwwww. Only getting 128-200kbps which is barely above 56k from 1999. They need to fix that. I would rather pay $10 for internet per device per day than have to put up with this.

Review 95:I liked the location, close the Union Station so its easy to get pretty much anywhere in the city.

Review 96:The hotel is old and dated. My room had a half-alive bug next to the bed, when I walked in. Fortunately, I didn't spend much time in the room, but for as much as I paid, I won't stay here again.

Review 97:The location was great.

Review 98:The hotel smells like smoke, even in the nonsmoking rooms, since they allow smoking in some rooms. The facilities are tired.

Review 99:Great location across the street from Union Station and the California Endowment. Great $4/night parking.

Review 100:The breakfast was a bit small, only had bagels and two cereals.

Review 101:I liked the location and you couldn't beat the price! If you are looking to explore la, this is the place to stay, not too far from anything (if you have a rental car). The staff was friendly and the room was very nice! More than I expected!

Review 102:Overall, it was a good experience. One caveat: Other hotel guests were loudly partying after 10 a.m. They quieted by midnight. I assume hotel management requested this. Earlier would have been better.

Review 103:Very close to Amtrak Union Station and other historic places in old Los Angeles. We were pleasantly surprised to find Philippe Original historic restaurant just around the corner!

Review 104:Elevator needed a really good cleaning. Not on par with remainder of hotel.

Review 105:Directions to places of interest very helpful. And of course the location, location, location...

Review 106:Needed to have the windows open as no working air conditioning. So was noisy. At least the windows did open!

Review 107:So convenient to the train station -close enough to walk.

Review 108:Slept on the made bed with my t-shirt over the pillow. Gym equipment useless because cables are cut off. Housekeeper responsible for breakfast cleans left overs from counter by eating them.

Review 109:Near central transit hub and great places to eat.

Review 110:Limited choices on TV channels. I would have liked PBS.

Review 111:Nice big room accommodated 3 young adults and a grandma. Our view was of downtown LA lights at night, pretty. Very cooperative staff.Good location next to Union Station. Close to a variety of restaurants.

Review 112:Extremely basic. Too much money for this property. In one of my rooms there was a window that would not lock. No drawers for clothing.

Review 113:Location was good for me. Union Station and Dodger Stadium. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very polite and helpful.

Review 114:This hotel has all the standard amenities. What I like is that it is within walking distance of Union Station. I have stayed there before for that reason.

Review 115:The staff particularly in the front desk was grouchy and not smiling ( felt as if we were not accepted in that place. Place looks gloomy but the worst are the bedbugs. The children up to now cannot forget seeing those bugs crawling and biting them.

Review 116:Near proximity to the area we went to

Review 117:Noise from elevator...we think that is what it was...or water pressure...it would bang for quite awhile. Water faucet in tub was backwards. Could have scalded someone easily. Property looked run down. For the amount of money-$150.00 a night it was overpriced. We chose it because we needed to catch a train at Union Station.

Review 118:Proximity to Union Station

Review 119:We stayed for one night as we were catching the train to San Francisco early the next morning. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the station and met all of our expectations. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was basic but there were enough options for us and it was good to have something to eat before setting off on our journey! This isn't a luxury hotel and would benefit from a refurbishment but it was clean, spacious and comfortable.

Review 120:- it's better if they didn't offer breakfast . - poor communication with most of the staff. - errors with price nothing near the price online .

Review 121:Located in the heart of downtown it's easy to get around town.

Review 122:This site should be destroyed. Beds broken, doors don't work, not handicap accessible, no where to put clothing live out of bags. Very unsafety for families. My door was crack from a person trying to break in. I would not send anyone person to this site. We where treated rudely and parking is horrible. This site is a nightmare for families. There were two families and I felt like I was living in Compton.

Review 123:Nothing!

Review 124:Just off a cruise and needed one night before taking Amtrak. Perfect location for us. Walked to Olivera St for good lunch, then Disney Concert Hall for a great concert. Next morning, short walk to train. Staff was so very nice. Accommodation "basic" but good for the price. Suited us.

Review 125:Early check in fee is too high(half of one day accomodation fee)

Review 126:its quite close from the union statioan. And staffs were very familiar and eager to help us.

Review 127:The breakfast is good but don't have waffles. There are a few homeless around the metro station. However, it is safe place.

Review 128:The hotel is located in old China town. it is fairly close to metro station which is convenient. The hotel is also very clean and big. There are many chinese restaurants around. What's more is there are pretty fake stars at the room ceiling.

Review 129:I cannot pinpoint precisely why, but I did not feel comfortable in the room during both my stays there. Maybe it was how dinghy the room was. Also, I would hear running water every now and then. It was so loud that I actually thought it was coming from my own bathroom. There was something quite unsettling about the whole room...

Review 130:Very convenient, near Union Station and Chinatown where I was to be picked up for the tour I had booked. Also, the free WiFi was good.

Review 131:Although the area is well patrolled by LAPD there were a few to many homeless people for me to want to stay more than a day or two.

Review 132:Hotel was close to Union Station

Review 133:The breakfast was rather poor, but it is difficult to expect a better one, taking into account the price.

Review 134:We chose this hotel, because it is a few minutes by walk from Union Station. The room was ample and clean, wi-fi worked well.

Review 135:Over price, $137. Is way to much. Unfortunately there are very few hotels walking distance to train station.

Review 136:You can see the hotel from entrance to Union Station. Older hotel, clean, but it is worn down and seen better days. Friendly staff, but breakfast is just cereal, coffee and rolls. Only stayed there because of proximity to train station. Overprice at $137.00 but only hotel you can wal to and from the train station.
