Reviews for Hotel Phillips

Review 1:Bed was uncomfortable. Shower curtains were mildewed No curtains to keep out the outside lights The room looks old and in need of updating No wine & cheese happy hour as we've had in the past.

Review 2:Second time staying here. First time was amazing. A year later, our trip left a lot to be desired. First, the valet and help staff are completely lazy. More importantly though, the room was not very clean. There was dust everywhere, which is a pain when you have a young child. The toilet was clogged when we arrived and only half of the lights in the room worked, and the staff was less than willing to make up for it. I like the hotel but it needs updating. The rooms are behind the times. I will not be staying here again. It's not awful, but not worth the money. I would rather stay at a nicer place for what you spend.

Review 3:Location is great and the room was roomy

Review 4:Heat did not work in room, lobby/etc of hotel were much nicer that rest of hotel and room, felt hotel was a little overpriced.

Review 5:Good location, walkable to some bars and restaurants, coffee, music venue.

Review 6:We reserved 2 rooms at the same time and they did not put the rooms together. It should be a given if a guest reserves 2 rooms at the same time they will be put together at least on the same floor. Also, we requested a floor up high and a view of power and light. I reserved these rooms well beyond the check in date, and they did not honor our requests for both room. When they found we were unhappy with this situation they upgraded one of the rooms, but again we were not together with the other parties in our reservation, and in turn the other party ended up with a room that was not as nice as ours and paid as much as we did making the visit a bit uncomfortable.

Review 7:The hotel too old and smells. Elevators are very slow . Restaurant is ugly. The bathroom very small and the sink dirty. The water is barely pouring and it's completely unacceptable. Some staff told me about innovation plan which is strongly recommended or just shutdown the place

Review 8:The staff are professional and sweet I would give them 10 of 5

Review 9:The staff were friendly and helpful but the whole hotel has seen better days and is somewhat tired. However I understand this is about to be addressed by a large financial investment.

Review 10:Front desk, and GM apprised us that they had "triple booked" the hotel because of poor communication between Hotel Phillips and third party booking sites. And though they were aware of the problem, no team member at the hotel bothered to get in touch with us to say our reservation would not be honored.

Review 11:Didn't have an opportunity to enjoy the hotel offerings, as we were triple booked and all the rooms had already been given to those arriving earlier

Review 12:Went on New Year's Eve and no restaurant open., No alcohol available.

Review 13:Gorgeous entry and lounge, convenient and interesting location (Kaldi's coffee just down the street was great for breakfast.)

Review 14:Unique Hotel! Great Location, exceptional staff.

Review 15:Staff was wonderful and the facility was lovely and very clean. We enjoyed the bar area and the food.

Review 16:The gym facilities need an update but that was it!

Review 17:Convenience and the restaurant breakfast was absolutely amazing!!

Review 18:Room wasn't very nice for the price

Review 19:Rooms were small and very little insulation in the walls. Water smelled terrible which is, we assume, why they offer free bottled water. Bed needs to be replaced. Valet Parking $22 per night, outrageous. Overall Rating 3 out of 10.

Review 20:Location was the only good thing.

Review 21:We reserved a King room, got a Queen. The Mattress felt like it came off a futon. It was so bad that we didn't even stay the night. You would be better off at a Drury or Holiday Inn, and for half the cost. Description says all rooms have keurig machine, but don't bring any keurig cups because they are generic single serve coffee machines that don't take keurig cups. Our "city view" was a brick wall. We will never stay here again or recommend it to anyone solely because the bed was the most uncomfortable bed we've ever layed on (again, after five minutes of that we checked out). It was worse than a sleeper sofa. If you do stay here, bring an air mattress.

Review 22:The lobby was nice, staff was pleasant.

Review 23:The towels were puny, The plastic glasses in the bath were not befitting a hotel of this quality.

Review 24:The staff was outstanding I really like the property

Review 25:My only real complaint is that our King size bed was either broken or it was two beds pushed together. There was a large crevice in the middle of the bed you had to sleep on the extreme right or left, not very comfortable. Its also a fair bet the sheets were not changed in our room before we checked into it.

Review 26:Friendly and courteous staff, excellent location and facilities a great place to stay.

Review 27:Our air conditioner didn't work in our room and they didn't do anything about it. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom so anytime we showered our room turned into a sauns. Also the rooms seemed small.

Review 28:The location is great!

Review 29:Rooms were very pricey for us, but in line with other nicer hotels in the area.

Review 30:Loved location, decor, and architecture! Service was great. We enjoyed our stay!

Review 31:The decor is fabulous. I felt like I had been transported back into old Hollywood. The evening reception of wine & cheese was great. The attached restaurant 12 Baltimore had wonderful Happy Hour appetizers and prices.

Review 32:Very handsome room and common areas. Room was spacious (executive king) with TV that swiveled between bed and sitting area. Hotel was pretty booked so we got no view but still was good for us. Great location in power and light district.

Review 33:Loose toilet seat! Dirty cup on room service breakfast tray. Leaning pole lamp in room.

Review 34:Design elements in room and lobby. Room service staff was very accommodating

Review 35:Room was a little awkwardly configured, but beds were comfortable, room was dark and cool--so really nothing!

Review 36:Checked in late, after a long day of moving our daughter into her dorm. Not only did the wonderful lady at check in upgrade our room, but she also sent up a cheese plate and wine! Room was very comfortable. Hotel is within easy walking distance to the Power and Light District. All in all, very lovely stay--wish we could have had more time there.

Review 37:I did not the price. I have never spent that much on a hotel, and if it wasn't a special occasion I wouldn't have.

Review 38:I loved the location and the overall ambiance. It was a gorgeous hotel.

Review 39:With the taxes and fees it was a bit pricey. The sink also drained slowly.

Review 40:We liked the old architecture and the location. The staff made excellent meal suggestions that fit our criteria.

Review 41:When I checked in I was told that the room that I paid for and confirmed for was not the room I was going to be given. Not only was I upset about not being informed about the problem before I checked in, I was also highly aggravated because I had been planning my best friend's Bach party for a long time and the room situation put a damper on the night. Even though they tried to "fix" the problem...that only happened a couple of hours after the fact. Honestly, the lack of urgency to make sure I was completely satisfied has really made me not an advocate for anyone who thinks staying at Hotel Phillips is a good idea.

Review 42:It's a great location to experience the downtown area.

Review 43:The bathroom looked like it had not been renovated at all.

Review 44:This was a nice boutique hotel in a beautifully restored building, whichhas retained all of its grandeur while keeping up with the comforts ofmodern life. Complimentary WiFi.

Review 45:The website description was not what we had when we got to the room. Itwas very misleading for the amount of money we spent on the room.

Review 46:It was located right by where we were going for the evening.

Review 47:The water pressure in the bathroom sink was very poor. Also more than one mirror in the room would have been appreciated. The only mirror was in the very small bathroom.

Review 48:For the price of almost 200.00, the room was very small and neighbors were loud. A group were together. Should put couples away from groups.

Review 49:Close to Spint Center.

Review 50:No fan in bathroom. Aircondition/fan really loud.

Review 51:Love the historic detail and location.

Review 52:WAY to high for what its worth

Review 53:The room had a smoky odour.

Review 54:The theme and style of the hotel was brilliant abd really felt like it had a good atmosphere.

Review 55:no water pressure no hot water no bathroom counter space hard to see tv from bed peeling paint from ceiling very pricey for a bad room!

Review 56:The location and the view were excellent. Happy hour at the restaurant downstairs had great deals and delicious burgers.

Review 57:Thought I was getting rooms with King beds but didn't. Rooms were very small.

Review 58:I felt our room was pretty small, especially for $200+ a night.

Review 59:The location, and the beautiful decor.

Review 60:Hidden charges. Cost almost double my booking price

Review 61:Environment

Review 62:Noisy airconditioning and the room was cold with really thin blanket on the bed

Review 63:Staff, decor and room nice

Review 64:price was high rooms are not very big

Review 65:helpfull employees old but very well kept

Review 66:I liked the comfortable rooms and the wonderful staff! Everyone was so friendly!

Review 67:small bath room

Review 68:very clean, lots of class

Review 69:Room was very small, hallway, elevator a bit dingy.

Review 70:Bed and linens were good, the bathroom was clean

Review 71:no complaints

Review 72:Old mixed with new

Review 73:extremely close to Power and Light District Close to Country Club Plaza

Review 74:The lobby and rooms were well appointed and the welcome wine our was well presented.

Review 75:A bit pricy for what you get.

Review 76:Bathrooms were modest. Room was ok.

Review 77:Beautiful decorum in lobby. Friendly & helpful staff.

Review 78:Thin walls between rooms.

Review 79:Very central for concerts. Easy to get there. Beautiful entry and bar area.
