Reviews for The Eldridge Hotel
Review 1:A couple burned out light bulbs in our room. Lukewarm water from the sink faucet. Shower water took a loooong time to warm up. But, it is an old building, which is part of the charm :-)
Review 2:Excellent location. Our room overlooked Mass and we were across the street from the Dusty Bookshelf, so we just walked over after dinner. Comfortable, spacious room.
Review 3:There was no in-room coffee and basic cable channels. Needed more amenities for price of the room.
Review 4:Great location! Close to shops and restaurants on Mass Ave. Room was clean and comfortable.
Review 5:There were a couple little things that were odd. We were staying over Christmas and had a couple of gifts to wrap...we asked to use a scissors and had to give our car keys "as collateral" . We also forgot to pack a wine opener and when asked if we could get one, they told us there was only one left in the bar and asked us to bring our wine down to the bar and they would open it. Finally, our last night in the hotel, we had a request and the front desk did not answer the phone. When we went down to the lobby there were two men walking around (no name tags or uniform) and no one at the front desk. It was startling. Neither of the two men asked if we needed anything or offered to help so an assumption was made that they did not work there. We went back up to our room and tried the front desk again - no answer. This became alarming. We tried the front desk one more time and finally received an answer. We later found out that the two men were the security officer and the valet. Its kind of comical in hindsight, but was nerve wracking at the time.
Review 6:We love the large and spacious rooms, the decor and the location of this hotel. The main lobby area with the fireplace and comfy seating is great! The beds are really comfortable and they provide plenty of pillows. The staff is very friendly. Being right on Mass Street so convenient and fun!
Review 7:There was no fan in the bathroom. The light for the small bathroom and adjacent room with the sinks were on the same switch with no door on the sink room, so if you used the bathroom at night the bedroom was lit up. Each time we went to the bar it was too crowded for us to have a drink.
Review 8:The location is awesome. The building is beautiful. The views on to Mass St from our room were great
Review 9:Room was poorly furnished and setup. My room was a suite (I think) but the second room (living/kitchen space) was essentially unfurnished, far below my expectations for a spacious upgraded room or suite. At minimum improvements for the room would have been an adequate sitting area, workspace and maybe kitchenette. The room simply does not look professional when it looks like they forgot the furniture. I asked the hotel to arrange airport transportation on my way out, and not only did the taxi not show up on time, but the front desk "couldn't help" and had no record that they had been asked to arrange a cab. They didn't even know which cab company I should call back. This should really never happen. I ended up sorting out my own transportation through Uber after a no-show taxi at 6:30am. As a business traveller, wifi is important. Although I had free wifi and was able to connect, it was spotty in my room and kept disconnecting me on Skype calls while trying to work or cutting off my VPN. I was able to go across the street to Starbucks but this is 2015 and I would expect perfect networking in hotel at this price.
Review 10:Has a "cool feel" and the lobby and bar are beautiful. Location is amazing, right on the main street in Lawrence, easy access to restaurants and bars and night life and shopping. Hotel was fairly quiet and very clean. As a business traveller I appreciated everything being in walking distance. I loved the bed which was large and comfortable, and the morning shower was good too. The entire hotel was very clean, the bathroom was spotless and the room was clean and serviced very well every day, this is especially important in a classic building like the Eldridge and they nailed it.
Review 11:We LOVE the Eldridge, stay there several times a year. Place is restored and beautiful. Staff is extremely friendly, even offered to fix us a cup of coffee to go on our way out,
Review 12:A couple of issues... 1) The bath water pressure in our room, 407, was poor -- the front desk was appreciative when i told them and sent maintenence to check it out. 2) No in-room coffee -- it's only available in the hotel lobby or via room service. Also, if you have an issue with noise, do not get a room over Mass St. We did, but it wasn't a problem for us, we live in a big city and are used to a certain amount of street noise.
Review 13:Great Location, in the heart of eclectic downtown Lawrence with plenty of shops & restaurants within easy walking distance. Beautifully restored historic hotel with comfortable and spacious rooms on Mass street. The hotel staff that we dealt with during our stay were always friendly, helpful and courteous. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Eldredge. Bottom line, would we return to the Eldredge for a stay in Lawrence? You bet!
Review 14:Hot water on 5th floor took a while. Shower pressure not good on 5th floor either.
Review 15:Staff is excellent. Location is perfect for shopping, bars and restaurants. Love the history of Col Eldridge and his ghost. We stayed in room 506 which is haunted by him. We had two supernatural experiences. Fun ones, not scary, just kinda spooky...
Review 16:Rooms were insufficiently lit for my old eyes to read, although the arm chairs were really comfortable. Make-up mirror was a nice touch but, again, I found it not well-lit.
Review 17:The staff is wonderful; the bar and restaurant are excellent (altho note that breakfasts are not included); the location is on the main downtown street which puts you in walking distance to a lovely selection of locally owned shops and restaurants; the street noise, considering the hotel's location, was unnoticeable; love that the rooms are suites- comfortably sized.
Review 18:Women at check in very aggressive and curt. Interrupted conversations. Asked if possible to check out day early and she was so curt the people behind us commented. Would not stay again based on her attitude. First impression.....
Review 19:Bed was too hard for me Valet parking a couple of blocks away with no dedicated parking on site No coffee maker or microwave in the room although Starbucks is across the street.
Review 20:Great Location on Massachusetts Very clean
Review 21:The parking was non-existent. The room was alternating too cold too hot. The bed while comfortable a person could feel every move of their partner which made for a sleepless night. The TV went out and reprograming it was impossible. The furniture was less than comfortable and looked cheap. We left at about 4am and there was nobody to be found at the front desk for some time. He never asked how was our night was, felt like we were bothering him..
Review 22:The location was good but parking was a problem.
Review 23:No coffee
Review 24:Christopher front desk was awesome...very focused on ensuring we had all needs met. I left a bottle of perfume and he made sure it was retrieved
Review 25:2nd floor rooms - noise from restaurant and bar can be loud in those rooms. Hotel entry door rugs dirty
Review 26:Location excellent - clean rooms - pleasant staff - nice size rooms
Review 27:Great location. Many unique shops and restaurants/bars nearby. The room was large and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and attentive.
Review 28:Our premier double was great; very spacious and equipped with a microwave and mini-fridge. We didn't need the microwave this trip, but we loved having the mini-fridge. The beds were comfortable, lots of comfy seating, too, in the living area.
Review 29:The weather.
Review 30:Good location and within walking to shopping and restaurants. Beautifully restored landmark hotel with all of the amenities needed. The restaurant and bar have good food. The Jayhawker is a fun place to relax with a drink.
Review 31:The location was perfect. You could walk out the door and be at shops and great restaurants. Close to campus as well. Loved the historic character of the hotel and the friendliness of staff. enjoyed the bar and restaurant on site.
Review 32:Elevator sounds constantly . Noise machine could not cover that up unfortunately .
Review 33:location. Ambiance . Comfort. Furniture. Inside of hotel Gorgeous. Rooms spacious and comfortable . Updated. Very comfortable bed & pillows and white noise machine.Starbucks coffee in front hotel area :)
Review 34:I loved everything about my stay! The room was very nice, the staff was friendly and efficient, the food was quite good, and the location is perfect! There's a Starbuck's across the street, and you're right downtown within walking distance of many restaurants.
Review 35:Our room was straight across the tiny hallway from the elevator. We heard every conversation, every sneeze, every sound from the people in the hallway. This hotel does NOT provide coffee in the room. One must treck down to the fancy lobby to get it (don't mind my appearance and that I've just crawled out of bed). When I went to get a cup of coffee and found it empty, I waited for an employee to return with more (it was still early-before 9:00 am). He never returned with more. And I waited 30 minutes. It may seem like a small thing not to provide coffee in a hotel room. But to many, it's not. And if you're not going to provide it, make sure you have it consistently in the lobby where you say you have it. For a hotel that prides itself for attention to detail, there were several details lacking: Upon entrance to the room it smelled of carpet cleaner, and there were several faded stains all over the floor. (At least it had been shampooed.) The broken yet balanced towel rack fell apart when taking off a towel. The furniture and its placement in the room left a gaping, empty area in the center of the suite. It seemed more like a party room than a cozy hotel. They also provided no offer for assistance with our very heavy luggage at checkout.
Review 36:One cannot get a better location for staying in downtown Lawrence. The staff gave us a great Orientation rate for our entire stay via KU. Staff was cheerful. Once I asked, they explained parking well. The room decor was nice. The view of downtown was great, and the white noise machine helpful in keeping the street noise out. It was fun staying in such a historical hotel.
Review 37:A bit noisy near the bar, my guess is mass street gets pretty noisy during school but they addressed it and provided sound machines.
Review 38:Upgraded historic hotel, nice facilities, very comfortable bed and excellent location!
Review 39:Well located downtown where all the activity is. Parking no problem in nearby lot or on street (meters are ten cents/hr!). Room very nice with leather sofa and chair, comfortable bed in separate room, nice vanity area, toilet and shower in tight space.
Review 40:I can't really think of one at this time. One thing I would like to see is a small microwave in our room.
Review 41:The staff was amazing. They went out of their way and responded quickly to our needs without hesitation. I've stayed at the hotel multiple times for business but this time I brought my parents for an event I was participating in. It was the first hotel I thought of when making arrangements. They enjoyed themselves.
Review 42:Parking can be problematic unless you pay for valet. It would be convenient to have a coffeemaker in the room instead of having to get dressed to go downstairs to lobby.
Review 43:Great location, great bar
Review 44:Love the hotel but wish they would add: robes (hotels at this price level usually do) and coffee maker in room.
Review 45:Clean, upscale, secure, and comfortable
Review 46:Offsite parking is required. Too bad breakfast is not included with the room but not a deal breaker.
Review 47:The room size is luxurious. The bed and towels are very comfortable. The on location bar and restaurant are nice as well
Review 48:We were on the fifth floor so hot water took a long time to get hot and our room had a view of a brick wall. Ask for a room with a view
Review 49:Loved the rooms. Classy and clean. The staff was accommodating and very nice. The bar was excellent.
Review 50:Wish there were a coffee maker in the room.
Review 51:Every room is a suite! I was upgraded to a larger one for a mere $1.50 (that's overall for three nights, not per night). Great location right in the middle of a charming downtown with shops and a nice 1.5 mile walk to the KU campus. Free coffee in the lobby in the morning. Fridge and microwave in every room. Staff really wants to help.
Review 52:Only blinds, no curtains in room. Made for it being very bright in the morning.
Review 53:Loved the sound machine in room. Especially being on a busy street in a college town!!
Review 54:Rooms don't have coffee pots or microwaves which we prefer. No water pressure in shower or fan in bathroom.
Review 55:Great location and able to walk downtown to meet family and friends. Parking can be tricky during the daytime. Great views!
Review 56:Lack of parking. Parking is free from 6PM to 9PM downtown but finding a space can be a challenge. They offer valet for 10 dollars a day if needed.
Review 57:I travel to Lawrence for business several times a year. I usually stay at a Hampton or the like when I travel but increasingly found myself hanging out and eating on Massachusetts St. during my stay. The convenience of being able to walk everywhere in the evening was a plus for me.
Review 58:TV remotes did not work properly. Coffee maker was brought to our room with previous dirty grounds in it. Morning coffee in the lobby ran out around 9:30 and was not replen- ished.
Review 59:Very Friendly Staff Wonderful Accomodations Wonderful Restaurant Nice morning coffee in the lobby Beautiful decorating Very spacious room, 201 Great Location!
Review 60:Mats where spotted and dirty. A mirror in the lobby sittinf area toward the back had fingerprints on it for the three days we were at your hotel. The reception area is grubby looking. I expected a more upscale appearance The ligting in the room was weird. The batroom lighting is terrible
Review 61:The room was large and comfortable The staff was pleasant and helpful
Review 62:Lighting in room was dim, wi-fi not good in some rooms, no amenities like robes, in-room coffee maker or mini bar. Also the reservation process was easy but when I needed to make a change it took many phone calls.
Review 63:Historic hotel, helpful staff, comfortable bed, lovely lobby.
Review 64:I made a reservation for a room in advance which was not available anymore when I checked in. The wait staff in the bar was not really interested to serve a single person.I tried it two times. if they would be friendly, I would have liked to have a drink at the bar.
Review 65:Location of hotel is excellent, it does not seem to be a chain hotel. The staff is friendly and the rooms are large and comfortable. Make it possible to open the window!
Review 66:We have spent a sleepless night or two, but realize this is due to the student chaos on Massachusetts on a Friday or Saturday night. If you want the location, you may sacrifice quiet. But, we stay here anyway!
Review 67:We love the Eldridge for its care to detail, cleanliness, historical past, and location in the heart of the action and restaurants of Mass. Street. The noise is beyond the control of the Eldridge, and they have made every effort to mitigate the effects for the guests.
Review 68:no coffee service in room but it is available in the lobby in the morning.
Review 69:The location on Mass Street is fantastic for business at the college or recreation. The restaurant and bar at the hotel are very good choices in a city of many great choices for dining. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.
