Reviews for The Oread
Review 1:Felt the cost was a little high, that is why we only stayed one night. Our room was on the wrong side of the hotel, so no view.
Review 2:Loved the gift shop. Room was spacious and clean. Restaurant was nice. Did not have time to go to terrace to enjoy the view.
Review 3:the place needs to be updated and housekeeping need to improve. Rooms was not well clean and were not comfortable. Cost is high for the quality of the facilities.
Review 4:location was good. the food was very decent. Employees were polite and helpful.
Review 5:So-so wait staff in the breakfast restaurant- nice, but a bit clueless. The room was comfortable enough, but very plain.
Review 6:The location of the hotel, so close to the university
Review 7:I didn't care for the tile floors in the bed area. I much prefer carpet underfoot. Also, be warned that it can be loud. They provide ear plugs and a noise machine to drown out the potential college craziness. If you don't mind noise, then this place is fine. We didn't have any issues (and we didn't use the ear plugs.)
Review 8:Location was great! Close to Mass Street and the nightlife.
Review 9:The only negatives are that the furniture (chair is too large for the room) and there is no bathtub. Also, our room's window opened onto the patio, with no view, and we had to keep the shutter closed for privacy.
Review 10:Do NOT go to the 'CAVE' club in the basement unless you are under 21. If you do you have been warned. It would be nice if the bar/restaurant in the lobby stayed open later as we had attended an event on campus and would have much rather had food from there instead of the food that was delivered from one of the few places open and delivering after 10pm.
Review 11:The location could not be better, the night security staff was excellent and the desk staff was pleasant enough. We love staying at the Oread when we come for games and events and can get a room. Although the price is a little extravagant the atmosphere is usually worth it and all the times we have stayed we have seen Coach Self as well as the other coaches late at night or in the morning hosting recruits and their families. They have always been very pleasant and it's a great bonus to our stay.
Review 12:I have stayed at the Oread a few times, and the rooms have always been clean and spacious. The staff is always great, willing to help with any questions or concerns.
Review 13:None! We were just unaware about the parking limitations prior to our arrival.
Review 14:Accommodations were excellent, the 5th floor view was enjoyable, and the band on the 9th floor was entertaining with a perfect evening and view. Enjoyed the stay, will come back when you have a special!
Review 15:We ordered food in the restaurant downstairs to take the terrace (niceidea) but it took a long time to have the orders ready, and we startedto lose our enthusiasm to go up for the view.
Review 16:Excellent location for view of and visit to ku.
Review 17:Check-in time seemed a little late. No breakfast is provided. The in-house coffee shop needed more staff to provide timely service.
Review 18:The check-in person was very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable - although rather small for the price.
Review 19:I did not like the high cost of the hotel. I did not like the fact that there was no coffee maker in the room and no free coffee in the lobby. Also, they charged me 100 dollars extra on top of my room charge for excessive cleaning, which I was very unhappy about and extremely disappointed. The hotel is expensive enough without inappropriate extra costs being added on.
Review 20:I liked the location of the hotel and the room itself.
Review 21:I would have liked to have coffee pot in the room. Not being able to park our own car and having to wait for valet service.
Review 22:the location and the view were great. We had great comos at the bar
Review 23:Our room had cobwebs everywhere, the bedding was dirty and had this disgusting spot on it that had clearly never been washed. Our bathroom was not very clean either. I also was extremely unhappy that they only offer valet parking and you are not allowed to park yourself but yet parking isn't free even after paying way too much for a room. Parking should be free to those who stay there.
Review 24:The best part of our stay was going on the 5th floor terrace and the view from our room.
Review 25:Had to valet park and couldn't get to the car for item left in it without bothering the valet. Rooms were oddly spartan.
Review 26:Really convenient to KU, lovely views. Classy looking operation.
Review 27:Missed coffee in the room. Didn't like the advertised 15% Sur charge for late check out. Room decor was kind of cold rather than welcoming, but didn't change the ultimate comfort of bedroom. Wished for better breakfast options.
Review 28:Comfortable. Decor style was rather austere, but room itself was good. Liked the mini fridge. TV size was almost overwhelming. White noise machine was great. Staff worked so hard to make everything right. 5th floor Terrace was terrific for watching fireworks.
Review 29:We ordered our side order for breakfast but it took way to long and the server never informed us concerning the length of time it would take. We had to pay and leave without the side dish in hand
Review 30:Beautiful property!
Review 31:Sound proofingh between rooms. People in room next door were really loud, could hear their TV clearly which was on all night.. Was thankfull for the sleep noise maker and earplugs!
Review 32:Location, food and service esp the friendly guy making coffee, and the view from the roof.
Review 33:There were no charging portals in the room I used.
Review 34:Enjoyed the wonderful vistas this hotel provided and the staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating.
Review 35:Came down for coffee at 6:30 and it was still being brewed. Very limited selection of breakfast items. This was at the Starbucks mini-counter. A little disappointed, but not a big thing. The guy behind the counter was super nice.
Review 36:In Lawrence to shoot a video of the municipal waste recycling processing equipment. So we needed pick-me-up place to stay. This was it. Stunning architecture. Great restaurant and food. Perfect room. Friendly staff. Amazing views of Lawrence.
Review 37:day receptionist (a woman, can't remember her name) was rude and did not care for us. no one offered to take our many suitcases to the room. we paid a high price - for a 3 star hotel - and no breakfast was offered. all in all, not good value for money.
Review 38:hotel was well located and comfortable. night staff were friendly.
Review 39:The rooms are very dark. The lighting in the rooms, bathroom and the hallways is not very good. I'm sure the intention is to create a nice atmosphere but the result is just gloomy.
Review 40:Location
Review 41:We had to go back to the desk because our key cards didn't work. They gave us 6 to try and only 1 of them worked. My wife was uncomfortable in the bed.
Review 42:We loved our room and the Bird Dog lounge.
Review 43:Location and having to pay valet for parking, room smelled of sewer gas so had to be moved, rooms had no character and not homey or inviting at all.
Review 44:Beds were comfortable, walk-in shower was great and size of room was nice
Review 45:See above. Staff was mix of really great (valet park & front desk) and marginally competent (food service). Place has good potential. I would try again, but ask for a different room.
Review 46:Architecturally interesting, but room was very strange--solid wood doors as window covering with no way to let in light while maintaining any privacy even though windows opened to public access outdoor space. Very good TV, but room arrangement not conducive to comfortable watching.
Review 47:There was no tub in the room. The shower was very nice, but I suffer from lower back problems and soaking in a tub helps.
Review 48:View was fabulous. I was there on business in the KC area but my son is attending KU so I was able to visit him and not have too far to commute, so location was great.
Review 49:The sitting area was less than desirable - no table. Could not change channels or volume on the tv with the remote from the sitting area. Had to get up every time I wanted to change channels and move over to the other side of the bed to get in front of the receiver for the remote signal. Maybe if the tv was on a swivel so it could be turned toward the sitting area. Finally, the walls are rather thin as the snoring from the person occupying the room next to me came through loud and clear. Now I understand the front desk person's comments about snoring, and why there were earplugs on the night stand next to the bed - didn't see those until I was gathering my things to check out.
Review 50:Ate dinner and had the filet. Was outstanding, was one of the most tender, perfectly cooked steaks I've had in a long time. Our hostess was outgoing, and people were very accommodating.
Review 51:We spent a week in Kansas--the Oread was our favorite stay. Everyone was very professional and friendly. The facility was beautiful and comfortable.
Review 52:The staff were outstanding, the room very comfortable and i loved the work out room. I cannot say enought about the staff, so accomodating and assuring i was loving my experience at the Oread.
Review 53:I thought the sleeping room decor was very "cold" and lacked features that would have made it more comfortable. The view from my room was the top of the roof. Awful.
Review 54:I liked the public spaces (restaurants, etc.). Bathroom was very nice.
Review 55:difficult to access electrical outlets for cell and other electronics charging; wooden window covering made the room quite dark
Review 56:outdoor terraces view ceiling fan
Review 57:Nothing to dislike.
Review 58:The staff was very pleasant and helpful. They treated you as a friend rather than a paying customer. Each floor had an outside seating area with great views of the KU campus.
Review 59:The walls of a castle inside and out, and I was treated like a princess! I loved the fifth floor views and music, service was great and everyone most helpful and agreeable, always asking if there was something more they could do...loved it! Jodie, Overland Park, Kansas
Review 60:Paying extra for parking Paid $150 supposedly as a wedding rate that did not include anything. Our room was all the way to the back of the motel.
Review 61:Bed was good Staff was pleasant
Review 62:Valet seems to be a little slow to meet visitors and then get cars when departing. May be due to other tasks or location of cars. I am not sure about valet...but I am convinced the rest of the entire experience rates at the top of our years together. Thank you.
Review 63:From the moment we entered through the front doors, we were welcomed and served like family and friends. This was our 35th wedding anniversary and we enjoyed it at the location where we met 40 years ago at KU.
