Reviews for Aslan Guest House
Review 1:I was in a dorm so I should not expect 4 stars. However more cleaning and more updated bathroom would be nice.
Review 2:Location is great, in the center of the old city, the place is of character, at the traditional building. Free tea.
Review 3:A very comfortable stay in Urfa, just a short walk from the city's main sightsthe central courtyard is a nice place to sit and relax. The owner was really helpful in booking me a coach for the next day - it was much appreciated!!
Review 4:Location was great, walking easily to the main sites, helpful in arranging other tours and onward transport. Very reasonable beer and laundry prices which we always appreciate a lot!
Review 5:It is kind of a hostel , not a hotel. A lot of people coming and going. No soundproofing at all, it seemed like open air hotel. We could not find the hotel by address, name of the streets were changed. Try to check the map before and keep in mind some streets are very narrow. It is Better print you reservation in turkish. Our problem was about the free parking. When we made the reservation, one month in advance, parking was free. Meanwhile, the owner changed the booking conditions, so no free parking anymore. When we arrived, he tried to convince us to pay for parking ( parking is an expensive issue in old Urfa city). It took us half an hour and many screams. Finally, we were clear and he paid the parking, as it was supposed to. In the end, we exchanged pleasantries, but the bitter truth is he unsuccessfully tried to cheat us. Expensive for a hostel. We had a quadruple room, with private bathroom and it had very uncomfortable beds, all soft and used mattresses.
Review 6:The location is very good , close to the fish lake and old centre city. Our room had private bathroom and it was clean. So were the sheets, although kind of used. Access to the rooms is shoeless, because of muslim custom. The owner speaks good English. Breakfast is served in the garden filled with flowers or up on the terrace and it is a rich traditional breakfast. The owner offers tea and access in kitchen, for free, 24 h. We travelled in April and it was chilled. Our room had AC, but some of the rest had not. As all over Turkey, children are very welcome.
Review 7:The Wi-fi was very weak in my room. No toiletries were provided until I made a request. There was a bar of soap in the shower. Not new! Used by previous guest. They tried to charge a lot of money for the tours 300tl for four people to Harran and Gobekli Tepe. I found out that you can get a bus to Harran for 6tl per person each way. And Gobekli Tepe is very near the city. You can take a taxi and still save money.
Review 8:The breakfast was small but tasty. The staff were friendly and polite. Five minutes walk from the bazaar and less than 15 minutes from Balikligol and all the mosques in that area.
Review 9:Location is nice , but in small line, not safe to go back at night. // I stay in a dom, some smell, not clean, the next early morning I change to uger hotel (not sure spell right), the same price 12eu , I can stay in a single room which is much better than aslan
Review 10:The house is pretty nice. Nice breakfast. // it's only me and another British jounelist, March, no tours , no costomers
Review 11:Cleaner not very friendly, in four days despite trying could hardly get an acknowledgment....incongruent with the other folks. The cleaner could do to pay attention to the horrible back congealed muck at bottom of the shower rails as this does smell. Also dorm is fine...really unusual but the carpet style rugs were really grubby and desperately in need of a good vacuum.
Review 12:Not much not to like.....amazing value for experiencing a traditional ottoman courtyard style house. Top location. Mr Aslan the owner and staff very helpful.breakfast typical but with a super spicy Urfa omelette. I stayed in dorm....ok but for me the room option better....they were flexible with the price, likely based on time of year. Took one of the in-house tours...in effect it is a cheaper taxi ride....ok
Review 13:Aslan guesthouse is a very nice hostel/hotel close to Urfa`s main attractions. The personnel is smiling and helpful. The dorm has mattresses instead of beds, but that is of no concern as they are comfy enough and the floor is covered by a carpet. The place itself is a beautiful old house. The place serves delicious Turkish breakfast with some of the best eggs I had in Turkey.
Review 14:The pension is nice, the gateway for the old city. Not far away from the modern sector. An oasis for me. Didn't use the Wifi. The bathroom was clean. The breakfast is traditional.
Review 15:English speaking made it so easy and very helpful friendly staff. Great breakfasts. We get to stay in Armenian place over 250 years old. Great location for everything.
Review 16:If there is some noise in the yard (people talking, staff preparing for breakfast) it is rather loud in the rooms.
Review 17:Staff is very friendly and helpful, most of the people speaks english. We booked a normal double room and got a really big room with to separated rooms, big enough for a whole family. The rooms are around a nice yard with seating area. Free Tea, drinks for self-service at nearly pruchase price. Good breakfast with freshmade Menemen.
Review 18:Food purchased at the guest house is a bit pricey, albeit convenient. Beware the angry cat :)
Review 19:Good location - close to main shops and tourist sites. Great room - try to get room #5. It has a huge lounge area, which is perfect for passing the hot afternoons. Friendly and helpful staff Guest house is clean, has strong wifi and free tea! Breakfast is nice and tasty
Review 20:The hotel-pension is an old typical house, splendidly decorated and very flowery, with a vast patio where we take a very copious breakfast. Furthermore, it is very well situated, near all the sites of interest. It is also an ideal place from which to visit sites so steeped in history as Nemrut Dagi, Göbekli Tepe and Harran. As for the staff, he is very nice, warm, always helpful and singularly generous. The atmosphere is also great, thanks to Youssouf, tireless singer and accomplished artist, who knows instinctively to make everybody happy around one çai ( tea) or one of its specialities. It is, undoubtedly, one of my best memories in Turkey.
Review 21:beautiful old house situated in a small lane of the old town. great atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. excellent breakfast. the booked room actually consisted of 2 spatious rooms and a small bath.
Review 22:Friendly atmosphere. Being able to make a cuppa for yourselves. Helpfulness by young staff in parking and helping you out with little things to make your stay pleasant.
Review 23:I stayed in the dorm for one day. The place is great to meet other travellers. The boss speaks good English. But he might be pushy sometimes in recommending his tour to you. The room is clean and basic. Wifi is good. Garden is lovely. The place is cool in the hot summer in Urfa.
Review 24:The location of Aslan Guest House is ideal. It's on a quiet backstreet just a short walk from the gardens. The central patio is a great place to hang out. The self-service cold drink were very convenient. Aslan speaks excellent English and went out of his way to ensure that everyone got the information that they needed for their travels and adventures.
Review 25:The room was small. The small bathroom was not ventilated. The guesthouse was away from the main shops and difficult to find.i did not feel it was safe to walk there after dark.Staff taxi to the bus was expensive.the hotel I stayed in the night before was only $10 dollars more and far superior in every way
Review 26:The courtyard was a pleasant place to have breakfast. The kitchen was very clean and tidy
Review 27:Hotel in a cave. What should I add?
Review 28:Nothing
Review 29:Beautiful old building, good location, wifi, free tea. Large room good shower, friendly staff
Review 30:Owner & staff Location Traditional old design
Review 31:Easy place to relax and see all of the historical sites. Owner was a teacher and always gives advice
Review 32:Great place to stay in Urfa with lovely staff. Great room and very pleasant, even in the hottest weather we experienced.
Review 33:you have to knock the door so the stuff will come to open the front door for you
Review 34:the people in the guesthouse~~~ and breakfast is very nice^^
Review 35:Friendly and helpful staff who spoke English. Complimentary self serve tea facilities. Heating in rooms, nice clean hot showers.
Review 36:hard to find for the first time
Review 37:stanard b&b, and very helpful of Aslan when we needs help even in Mardin by phone.
Review 38:mattress on the floor, real bed would be much more confortable
Review 39:staff was very nice and helpful location is good
Review 40:Room did not look so neat.
Review 41:Owner spoke good English and was helpful as what to see. Possibility to meet other travellers.
Review 42:No coffee, even no Nescafe.
Review 43:Service, management, price, helpfulness
Review 44:The warm welcome, the friendliness of the staff, the location in the historical centre, the structure with the patio...
Review 45:The breakfast lady and daughter could have tried to smile.
Review 46:The owners English was excellent, his nephew was delightful, very friendly and helpful. Location great, very central. Very happy to give advice on what to do or where to go.
Review 47:Bathroom shower did not drain completely and thus leaked onto the floor.
Review 48:Staff was wonderful and in a city of Urfa with a lack of English speaking members, having a travel guide as a hotel keep is priceless. Out future travel plans were helped greatly by his intervention and knowledge. We booked two trips, one to Harron and the area around and the other to Mt Nemrot . Both were very good.
Review 49:Noise from other guests while accessing their rooms, TV channels were not set properly, breakfast was not open buffet as mentioned on the phone by receptionist, high stairs, no elevator.
Review 50:Location and hospitality, air conditioning, new and comfortable beds, slippers for indoors and bathroom.
Review 51:No window or a air vent in the bathroom .room could do with a new deco to bring it up to standard.
Review 52:Service good ,staff very helpful.location for me was excellet could'nt have got any close to where I needed to be.will go back.M.Idris
Review 53:We had reserved a double bed, got 2 twins instead.
Review 54:The staff was terrific, quick to address questions and concerns. They were helpful and informative.
Review 55:İ stayed at the Suite which consists of a gigantic living room and a tiny bedroom. Together with the bathroom it felt like an unfinished building, with not so clean rugs on the bare concrete. Also, it was very cold at night because the air co was just not enough to keep the high ceiled rooms warm.
Review 56:Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The place is really just 5 minutes from all the important sights of Urfa and the common courtyard offers a nice, family-like atmosphere.
Review 57:No heating in the room (remote control is not available for the air condition) so it was freezing at night although the two blankets may be of help to keep you warm.
Review 58:staff are helpful and friendly although the junior ones do not speak a lot of English. The garden is nice. good location in the small lanes of old town, not easy to find though. Self service kitchen.
Review 59:This guest-house is really back-packer accommodation, which we did not realise, looking for something authentic, and the photographs make the rooms seem more attractive than they are. Our bedrooms had a persistent and strange smell, probably mould, and though the beds were comfortable, they lacked sheets. Staying over a weekend, our bathroom bin was not emptied on the Sunday - not a trivial issue when, as in much of Turkey, the bin is a receptacle for toilet paper. The proprietor was helpful, but a bit overbearing, and we were glad we had booked our sightseeing with another organisation, which the owner seemed disappointed about, as we saw so much more than those who took the guesthouse's tours.
Review 60:The staff were friendly. There was a nice sit-out area for people to sit and have a drink or chat.
Review 61:The owner offer a tour of harran and gobleki tepe but it's quiteexpensive (70 tl). There Are many cheap offerts downtown. They alsooffer an otogar transfer for 20 tl but we noticed that in other guesthouses is free.
Review 62:The owner and is old uncle joseph are very kind. Oncle Joseph is also agreat turkish singer: ask him to sing something. The ambient is familiarand relaxed. The thea is free and there is always someone to talk with.Good position (only a few minutes from the holy fishes).
Review 63:The hotel, as a result of the Urfa municipality's inexplicable changing of all street names into numbers, was a bit hard to find.
Review 64:The hotel was incredibly pleasant and most importantly; very clean. The owner was quite friendly and unlike everyone else in Urfa didn't bother us about tours. The location is smack dab in the centre of all the action.
Review 65:The manager... He is a business guy and try everyday to get you on his different caint of trips. its cool though he explain he has them but he is to aggressive about selling them... Asked us everyday if we would go to this place and this place and this place... He should take a little more slow about that - it feells like its only for one thing - business... But except for that - a really nice place!!!
Review 66:The garden/yard was fantastic. A really trad. Kurdish Guesthouse. Breakfast good, free coffee and tea really nice and the waiters was so friendly.
Review 67:- Can't think of anything right now...
Review 68:- Excellent location in the heart of Urfa - Kindness and dedication of the staff - Lots of tour options available
Review 69:Guest house displacement allows you to feel Sanliurfa atmosphere. 15 min on foot to reach all city attractions. Manager speaks English and can help you to find answer to any considerable question. I think if I would have to stay in Urfa once again, I`d do the same choice
Review 70:A very sincere sense of hospitality and genuinely wanting to help and assist you in seeing and understanding as much about area as possible. Owner is hands on and understands needs of travellers. His driver, Yusuf is a treasure!! Very entertaining. Great day trip options available.
Review 71:Nothing really, though if you arrange a tour with Yusef as yourdriver/guide (worth it for his entertaining and informative commentsalone), obviously do it with enough fellow people to be economicallyworth it. Anyone like Yusef who has pet gazelles at home with his manychildren and grandchildren can't be all bad.
Review 72:The staff were excellent. The owner was gracious, friendly, andinformative. Yusef, the driver/guide for guesthouse tours and localtrips was wonderful. He was friendly, funny, and a font of informationin various languages. I usually avoid guided tours like the plague, butI would suggest considering theirs. As I work with refugees in the U.S., I was interested in at least seeing the Akcakale refugee camp on the Syrian border, and Yusef facilitated that. The hotel also hosted, for a month, doctors and staff working at that camp. The guest house location in the old town near the bazaar and Baliki Gul was great. Tourism in the area has suffered with the Syrian situation. Do your own research, but I have been in more danger skiing or riding my bike at home than in Urfa. The lack of tourists also led to my wandering the bazaar in other sites being apparently the only Western tourist.....a great experience compared to wonderful but touristically overloaded places like Istanbul and Cappadocia. Do your own due diligence regarding safety (again, I felt and from numerous conversations believe I was completely safe), but I would strongly suggest thinking of touring this part of Turkey these days and considering Aslan Guest House as a good base.
Review 73:Aslan, the owner, was courteous and generous in greeting us. He gave usa choice of the top floor rooms and offered to send one of hisassistants to help transfer our luggage from the previous hotel. Withhis knowledge of the region and, given existing winter road conditions,we took one of tours offered by the guesthouse and conducted by Aslanhimself. With some of the travel warnings for the south-east Turkey, hispresence made us feel secure. We had considered going alone but arepleased he was our guide. The guest house felt more relaxed and homely with a kitchen ready for 24 hour tea and coffee, a lounge area with Turkish couches/cushions and a long wooden coffee table. Our room was warm with plenty of heating, hot water and space to move unlike some other places we have stayed in. The bathroom was very good! It was clean - tiled floor, china basins, glass enclosed shower, hooks for clothes and/or towels and roomy. Breakfast was wonderful with an omelette and a local speciality of scrambled eggs and pepper - delicious! It also included bread, cheese, olive, cucumber and tomato with spreads. Adam, the assistant, was appreciated in many ways from helping with the bags to doing our laundry and serving up breakfast. Thank you Adam.
Review 74:Great Location, excellent breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff
Review 75:The price
Review 76:The staff and the athmosphere
Review 77:you can find peace and relax. good idea offer free tea to the host.
Review 78:Availability of beer. Good wifi. Very clean room. Lovely courtyard. Helpfulness of owner in arranging tours and local knowledge.
Review 79:They addmitted dog in the guest house without any problem and any extra charge which is not exceptional but still unusual in that region.
Review 80:Not much
Review 81:Great location for old town Friendly and helpful staff Characterful building
Review 82:tour suggestion outside the city was fairly expensive for its content
Review 83:room is clean, nice breakfast, free of tea and coffee
Review 84:Beautiful courtyard and reading corner. Lovely staff and relaxed atmosphere. Excellent central location.
