Reviews for Maqueda Lodge Kruger Park

Review 1:Room is quite small. But nothing to make us uncomfortable

Review 2:Place seems to be unreal. Like it was taken from some movie, the stay it self is an experience. Recommending ordering with half board. Also recommending the SPA

Review 3:Wifi was sometimes on and off but no major problem as the point is to disconnect!

Review 4:The friendliness of the staff on top of the service provided. The house is very beautiful and absolutely clean. The food was amazing and breakfast was great. Rangers pick us up at the property directly which is nice.

Review 5:Very friendly staff, great food, very comfortable, left to settle in and treat the place like home. And every evening was like a mini safari on the trip back to the lodge. I would like to think that I will be back. :)

Review 6:The location is great, nearby one of Kruger Park gates, the lodge is very charming and the owner was extremely friendly and organized for us the airport transfers, the safaris and the transportation out to Mozambique! The food was definitely one of the highlights of the stay, as it was absolutely delicious, fresh ingredients and exquisitely made! And plus the lodge has a spa where one can get an amazing massage at the end of the day! Definitely recommend!

Review 7:The mosquito infested couches - really couldn't sit on them

Review 8:The staff made a great effort to make our anniversary dinner memorable. The chef Daniel Opitz made the best mushroom sauce ever - the rest of the food was equally yummy. Very pleased we chose this establishment to spend a few days.

Review 9:The concept of the hotel. Everybody have to be together for dinner doesn´t matter if drunk adults with families with children. My family and me were sitting down to have dinner in the only one table with drunk people, worse experience ever in a hotel.

Review 10:Beautiful, family run lodge located on the borders of the Kruger Park. Excellent facilities with close contact to nature, Great food, even for vegetarians. Very personal service provided by charming and helpful hosts. Professional, varied and enjoyable game drives. We greatly enjoyed the company of the other guests. Very good value for money compared with other local options.

Review 11:Hake fillets and frozen veg mix for Friday dinner... mediocre and disappointing.

Review 12:Really stunning venue. Very romantic setting amongst the trees and the room was beautiful

Review 13:Everything!!! Couldnt speak more highly of this place. Staff working constantly to make your stay as comfy as possible. Have endless amounts of knowledge regarding kruger and the marloth park. Food fantastic Just sitting in the evenings hearing warthogs, giraffes, zebras etc walking past the lodge is out of this world. Maqueda lodge gives its customers such a personal experience.

Review 14:Family run, very welcoming felt it was home from home... Excellent

Review 15:Location,quaint, great ambience and service

Review 16:Francois,Gerhard & Etienne made us feel so very welcome. Each and every time we returned back to the Lodge there was someone saying welcome home! The setting is both beautiful and relaxing. The experience was different from any place I have stayed before. We will be left with wonderful memories of the place that we will cherish forever.

Review 17:This is a wonderful place to stay both for easy access to Kruger National park and as a destination in itself. Everything about the accommodation was excellent and what makes is very special is the exceptional hospitality of the lodge owners and their integrity in providing excellent accommodation and services. Thank you Maqueda lodge. Carol and John. Sunderland

Review 18:HAVING TO LEAVE!

Review 25:The Location, the personnel People, the other guests, the Food the ambience

Review 26:Maqueda Lodge was the first place we stayed during our trip through South Africa. And we kept wishing we could go back throughout the rest of our trip! The place is amazing - it is run by two brothers, Francoise and Etienne. Francoise picked us up at the airport and during the drive explained all the different options and activities. This was really helpful; we were able to plan the four days we had with them. We stayed over New Year, so unfortunately the Mozambique trip wasn't an option (the border is too congested), but there was no lack of alternatives. On day one, he does a (free) 2 hour drive along the Crocodile River with the new guests, to give you a taste of what you might see in the park itself, and it gives you a great sense of the place. The lodge is beautiful, all dark wood, with great decor, but it felt individual and family run rather than like a film set. (Though it could have been one!!) Everything is exceptionally good quality - in both the rooms and common areas. There are two plunge pools for you to cool off. Every evening for dinner, Etienne cooks a three course meal, which is served at a large beautifully set table in the common area. Everything is open to the bush, with white curtains flowing in the wind.. it's quite surreal! Everybody who stays at the lodge eats together at the table. This is voluntary, but given there really isn't much else around in terms of restaurants - one is indeed in the bush - we certainly welcomed it! Etienne is an amazing cook and also catered well for the veggies at the table. We were very lucky and became good friends with another couple who was there - but I can see that this might not be for everybody, if you want a romantic dinner for two it might not be the place for you.

Review 27:No air conditioning. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Tiny bathroom and shower.

Review 28:Friendly hosts.

Review 29:staff is fantastic, friendly, helpful, excellent cuisine, beautiful atmosphere, beyond what a normal hotel can offer, small, smart & charming
