Reviews for Best Western University Inn
Review 1:Needs updating of its 25+ yr. old (?) decor. Very dated & looking run-down. While housekeeping is excellent, rooms need complete, deep cleaning (vac behind/under furniture & shampoo rugs)
Review 2:Great location! Overall great staff. Beds comfortable.
Review 3:Some distance from town (but not really an issue given shuttle goes nearby)
Review 4:Free shuttle & breakfast; friendly & helpful staff; location next to shopping centre
Review 5:The staff is amazing! (Sarah and Tom, you are awesome!) The hotel offers a lot of facilities such as transportation to Cornell University or Downtown, and a good breakfast in the morning. The room was very comfortable, with nice beds, sofa, television, desk, heater, good shower, coffee machine, microwave and refrigerator. It is very (very) close to a good supermarket, a laundry, a drugstore and a few restaurants. And a bus stop.
Review 6:The scrambled eggs at the buffet were cold and the "make-your-own" waffle batter was spoiled. The waffles tasted sour. The remainder of our trip, we decided to eat breakfast at the College Town Bagel restaurant across the parking lot which had good breakfast sandwiches.
Review 7:Near everything you'd want while away for the weekend; food store, Rite Aid, restaurants, points of interests.
Review 8:The entire hotel could use a major refresh! The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever been in. It was very hard to find the hotel tucked away in a shopping plaza, even with cell phones and car gps.
Review 9:We ordered a taxi to go to the Bighmanton bus station and the staff get confused, the taxi driver took us to Bighmanton airport and finally we were late for our bus.
Review 10:Rooms are confortable.
Review 11:Bed pillows just okay.
Review 12:Staff was very accommodating (front desk, housekeeping, etc). Room was quiet, clean with adequate amenities. Located in a shopping mall with lots of retail stores, a very good deli, grocery store, wine/liquors, Rite Aid, etc.
Review 13:Way below the standard of other best Western hotels I had been too. The facility needs an update really bad There was no ventilation fans in the bathroom. Bed sheets and cover hasn't been replaced in a very long time. House keeper was a friendly lady, but not so when it comes to the front desk. They were not happy to answer questions, or explain things. They gave short answers like Yes or no.
Review 14:Location
Review 15:My final bill was higher than I was told. That was the company'sfault, not bw.
Review 16:Ofthe rooms remaining available when I went to book for the particularweekend, I was most comfortable with bw as I have stayed there before. Iliked the fact that we could have our dog and that there was an outdoorpool available.
Review 17:The air conditioner made too much noise. The overhead ceiling fan made a clicking sound. I booked a room with two queen size beds and got a room with 2 full size beds.
Review 18:The breakfast was fine. They supplied patty sausage, scrambled eggs, bagels, make your own waffles, fresh coffee, etc. Definitely better than a continental breakfast.
Review 19:We've stayed here many times in the last few years since my daughter attended Cornell University and graduated in 2006. This hotel has gone down a lot since then. They didn't clean our room even though we had the sign on the door and came back at 3 pm. The air conditioner kept us up most of the night with its loudness and going on and off. When we first checked in they gave us a room with double beds instead of queen beds and a fireplace which is what we booked. Very disappointed.
Review 20:The location was convenient.
Review 21:Although I had spoken with front-desk staff and arranged for a late check-out (in the evening prior to check-out), in the morning I got three inquiries, asking why I was still in the room & when I'd be out. The front desk staff member who made the third call was rude. Ithaca is my hometown; this hotel is across the street from my family's burial plot. A visit to my hometown was marred by someone's lack of communication skills and/or poor customer relations skills.
Review 22:Location and most of the staff. Great help from/ interactions with front desk and housekeeping...until check-out day.
Review 23:room wasn't very clean. hair on floor behind bathroom door and clothes left by previous guests left in closet. room was very dated.
Review 24:quiet room after we unplugged the refrigerator. ac worked well but was noisy. having breakfast available in the morning is a must for us so that worked well. room was available last minute.
Review 25:high ceiling rooms with microwave. luxurious bed sheets. bus to downtown is just a few walks aways. there are eating places, supermarket which are near the hotel.
Review 26:The room was run down (carpet filthy, wallpaper peeling off the walls, bed linens stained), but most significantly the room was not clean. There was used soap (both bar soap and shower gel) in the shower and bathroom sink, and hair everywhere. Other than its location near to Cornell University, there is nothing redeeming about this hotel.
Review 27:Air conditioner not much more than a fan. No ventilation in bathroom so steam made humidity worse.
Review 28:Very clean, helpful staff. Comfortable furniture. Great breakfast
Review 29:I did not like that the AC did not seem to work properly in our room, or that there was no security lock on the outside door on the lower level, and that our window was open when we arrived because it was broken and could not be closed and locked. Also, when we arrived our bathroom was not cleaned well. There was hair on the floor in the bathroom and shower, and the toilet was not cleaned well.
Review 30:I liked that there was a grocery and liquor store close by, and it was close to Cornell, which was the purpose of our visit. The staff was very friendly, and even though we arrived at 2am, we were warmly greeted.
Review 31:Room not cleaned well. Hair on floor in bathroom, and on wall of bathtub. Shower curtain old. Very tiny uninviting pool. Very basic motel.
Review 32:Location. Very close to Cornell
Review 33:Since we did not want the sheets changed every day we put the sign on the bed as a signal. In return our beds were not made at all...
Review 34:Practical to reach Cornell University. Map was given at check in Free breakfast food of good quality. Aside from eggs and coffee that did not have any taste.
Review 35:The Heater/Ac unit did make a little bit too much noise but we only used it a few times so it didn't really matter.
Review 36:We stayed here for several nights and enjoyed our stay. We even asked to stay an extra night and staff was able to do that at the same booking price. Room was clean and comfortable, bed was very nice, room was spacious. We had a fireplace and would have been fun to use it but we didn't need it. Bathroom and shower were nice. Breakfast was nice, plenty of selections to choose from and juices were very tasty. Free parking and free wi-fi worked throughout the facility. All in all, very nice stay and it was great value for our money.
Review 37:Bathroom has no exhaust or heat lamp. Needed for the steam after showers.
Review 38:Staff helpful when I could not print off computer in business center. She went out of her way to get my paperwork printed for me.
Review 39:Every single staff member we encountered was friendly and attentive. Hotel is w/in walking distance to a grocery store, a neat antique store and one of the best restaurants I've had the pleasure to visit (Agava).
Review 40:There was no real contact with any staff. All rather impersonal and the building is architecturally very bland. Functional but no charm especially with cold weather.
Review 41:We were 3 sharing a room but there was plenty of space, good storage and great bathroom. We really appreciated the high sloping ceiling and the room was very well-appointed.
Review 42:Right after entering our first room, my wife found the toilet had a lot of toilet paper in it with ,, shall I say, brownstuff? She flushed, but should have waited ,, I went to desk, reported it, they offered and I took another room, for a small reduction in price. Unfortunatly for us the weekend we had picked was costly due to a college event weekend at Cornell, did not know until after hard time finding available rooms.
Review 43:Location, a bit out of city, yet close to everything, no noisy roads or city traffic to listen to.
Review 44:Drivers of shuttle bus are very nice and helpful; the shuttle bus service is great; although the hotel is not in downtown, the supermarket near the hotel provides great convenience for buying food and drinks.
Review 45:Not about the hotel, about Ithaca - it would be hard for walking travellers.
Review 46:The shuttle bus is free for as far where I've traveled (Cornell University Goldwin Smith Hall; Ithaca Bus Station, Ithaca Tompkins Airport), and the gentleman is very pleased to help the customers The room is indeed large enough, and the apparatus are environmental friendly.
Review 47:Mattress was not comfortable, there was no shampoo in the room when we checked in, and the receptionist asked us how much we wanted to spend for dinner when we asked for a restaurant recommendation. Isn't there a better way of asking what kind of restaurant we want?
Review 48:Price was low for the area.
Review 49:My room smelled strongly of cigarettes and I was not informed through Booking.com or the hotel staff that this would be a smoking room.
Review 50:Convenient location to Ithaca college
Review 51:a bit far from The Commons and the University
Review 52:Clean and new facilities; king size bed extremely comfortable; heated lamp in bathroom; electric fireplace
Review 53:The rooms and hallway were a bit musty and had a too strong “air freshener” smell. Bathtub area could have been a bit cleaner.
Review 54:The desk clerk was helpful, knowledgeable, informative and professional in an appropriately casual way.
Review 55:We enjoyed all of our stay :)
Review 56:When my date and I arrived for a wedding, our invitation had detailed a shuttle would be leaving from the Best Western. When we spoke to the staff, they kindly told us they did not receive communication from the bride and groom about the shuttle. They honored the invitation though and provided a shuttle to and from the wedding. My boyfriend and I appreciated it immensely since we were coming out of state. We also loved that the room had a jacuzzi bathtub!
Review 57:Room a little worn & tired looking.
Review 58:The entire staff were extremely helpful and friendly!! Loved the shuttle service for getting around. Location great!
Review 59:Many unguarded entry doors; long walk, in parts outside, to lobby and breakfast room; breakfast room overcrowded four days in a row. Poor quality mattress of king bed kept me awake as my partner moved. Pricey for 2-star motel.
Review 60:Spacious room, nicely furnished; access to internet; quiet location at dead end with view on wheat field; microwave, refrigerator; free, copious hot/cold breakfast. Friendly unruffled staff.
Review 61:room had insufficient and outdated furniture and poor lighting: paper plates and plastic utensils at breakfast; tables in breakfast area too small for 4 people.
Review 62:Bed was comfortable; variety of food choices for breakfast.
Review 63:It is a bit far from the town and the campus
Review 64:The room was big and well equipped with a fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. Shuttle service was excellent!!!
Review 65:Dirty smelly hallways. Strong cigarette smoke in the rooms. rooms. Old food in refrigerator.
Review 66:Proximity to Cornell University. The beds are comfortable.
Review 67:The pillows and bed hurt my neck and back. Location is pretty far out of town so you can't walk to places in town (no bars). Saw a few bugs in the bathroom but they may have been stragglers from our hike. Price was very high for the quality of the room
Review 68:Staff was nice. Room was cleaned every day.
Review 69:I enjoyed the convenience and quiet
Review 70:Nice location near Cornell.
Review 71:TV didn't work properly in the room. Room was very dark. Relatively expensive.
Review 72:Staff in breakfast area were great, very helpful.
Review 73:Sheets with stains and holes. Overall not clean at all
Review 74:Close to the Cornell campus!
Review 75:Front desk very helpful with map of college we were touring and shuttle info
Review 76:Ripped and frayed towels, they looked old and dirty. Room was tired and old looking. Needs to be updated
Review 77:A bit far from Cornell and downtown.
Review 78:Spacious rooms. Excellent internet service. Good breakfast. Nearby supermarket.
Review 79:The place is comfortable but very noisy!
Review 80:The hotel charged us a diferet price stated in booking.com. the diferente was almost twice.
Review 81:Shurter service.
Review 82:The shurter picked us and travel us to Cornell
Review 83:The room was not clean. There were many dusts and hairs on the floor.
Review 84:Good location. Nice friendly staff.
Review 85:Expensive for the quality.
Review 86:Friendly staff.
Review 87:The room was in a newer section, very spacious and clean. Parking was right outside the room, which provided easy access.
Review 88:The hotel is a three stars with price of four stars. It's very simple and need maintenance.
Review 89:wifi didn't work for the cell phone, just for the notebook
Review 90:close to Cornell University
Review 91:The shuttle services were very convenient!
Review 92:Internet Connection high quality
Review 93:There was a window in the ceiling, the curtain did not block the morning sun so it was an early rise
Review 94:Convenient for restaurant Agava - great food and margaritas
Review 95:expensive in room rate
Review 96:Room space
Review 97:Noise from buses in the neighboring plaza
Review 98:Clean!
Review 99:Liked everything.
Review 100:Location was ideal for my needs. Excellent customer service.

Review 114:Complimentary breakfast is nice, but always the same: eggs, sausage patty, waffles, etc. Could use a little more variety.
Review 115:Wifi was very fast
Review 116:Room was great. Plenty of space for our dog's bed. Staff was wonderfully accommodating, helpful and friendly.
Review 117:Enjoyed the fireplace! Everything was perfect.
Review 118:Hair in the shower from previous guest.
Review 119:Very quiet room in building 3. Did not hear any other guests. Literally right beside Cornell U.
Review 120:We frequently visit Ithaca and of all the hotel choices we like the Best Western, but we sometimes have to stay elsewhere when they are full!
Review 121:Cleanliness and maintenance were lacking and very overpriced.
Review 122:Location near Cornell University.
Review 123:"Agricultural" aroma from nearby farms in the evening.
Review 124:Clean, staff was friendly and helpful. Just fine for the money.
