Reviews for The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel

Review 1:The choice of the sink is no good. Only one or two restaurants in the hotel, and they close pretty early. Worse still, there're no restaurants nearby. The nearest Starbucks is about 15-min. walking distance away. Therefore, even for hotel guests, we need to book a table for breakfast.

Review 2:Can clearly watch sunset if your room is facing the sea.

Review 3:Nothing!

Review 4:Everything! I have stayed at this hotel since the '80's and it is absolutely wonderful! Perfect, quiet beachfront location next to Diamond Head and across from beautiful Kapiolani Park; outstanding staff; rooms updated and fantastic views of Waikiki, the beach and Diamond Head. Restaurant an all time favorite.

Review 5:Didn't like the room's decor sofa very small and hard and the rest not nice at all.. Bed was ok. Bathroom wasn't clean floor not cleaned at all.

Review 6:Sitting out in the lanai . Having bit to eat at the bar with couple of drinks. Amanda was the most helpful cheerful pleasant young lady really enjoyed having her around.

Review 7:Very small rooms, bar shuts at 10pm, you have to use hotels valet parking if you have a car, for $28 a night

Review 8:Good location ideal for a couple of nights, nice quiet part of town, very clean

Review 9:I was awakened early by an awful noise of a leaf blower or something like that. It was really very irritating and ruined the experience of waking up to the tranquil sound of the ocean.

Review 10:Of course the ocean view was spectacular and breakfast at the Hau Tree restaurant was great.

Review 11:I stay in About 70 hotels Every year and this was one of the 2 thatreally didnt understand how to deal with custumors. They cheat you onAbout everything, They are very rude and the rooms are different ThenThey advertise. They finnally admitted They marketing departement did itto make more money... But They dont want to Change it. The girl Thatchecked me in should not work with people at all...

Review 12:Leaving this hotel was the best this hotel had to offer.

Review 13:Our friends had to have their bedroom moved when the construction company started drilling in the room immediately below theirs at 2.30 in the afternoon! And arranging this move took 5 attempts!

Review 14:The restaurant and the location by the beach

Review 15:Rooms are dated. If they do renovate them it would be a top property.

Review 16:Location is perfect, just by the beach. You will not find a better cost/benefit if you want to walk a few meters to get to the beach. Restaurant is great!!

Review 17:Older facility. Public park just below our balcony was very busy during the day. So it was a little loud with music and the locals made up more than half the crowd on the beach. Ended up walking to the main strip of Waikiki for dinners and shopping. Would stay on main strip of Waikiki next time.

Review 18:Clean with nice view of Waikiki coastline. Quite inside hotel. Good beach area. Reasonable cost and easy parking.

Review 19:It feels like a small boutique hotel with excellent staff and a fabulous location, out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, more like Hawaii as it used to be.

Review 20:Laurie the bartender was clearly understaffed but she didn't do a good job of hiding it and was overtly grouchy to both customers and colleagues. Slow drain in our bathroom sink. The room with two beds was tiny tiny tiny. For the same price we could have twice the size in main Waikiki...you pay for piece. The Wi-Fi instructions were terrible; the hotel needs a native English speaker and technical writer to properly break it down. We nailed it.

Review 21:Jay the Maitre D' at Hau Tree Lanai, Irma the coffee runner at Hau Tree Lanai - both were the true spirit of warmth and hospitality. Breakfast and dinner portions were humungous - be warned! Nice complimentary towel and beach mat check out service. Wi-Fi was good once we tenaciously decoded it.

Review 22:Small rooms and very dated tiny bathroom. Full size pillows would have been better too for comfort of sleeping as beds were comfortable.

Review 23:Location was good and restaurant on the beach was lovely.

Review 24:We have stayed here many times and like it very much, but this time, for some reason, we were in the tiniest hotel room I have ever seen!! We were only there for 2 nights so we were fine, but for any longer stay, we likely would have asked for a larger room

Review 25:We really like the location. We love the Breakfasts at the Banyan Tree restaurant (outdoors directly on the beach). There is a small convenience store on the premises, so you can pick up a bottle of wine, etc. Helpful and kind staff, rooms always very clean

Review 26:The voyer bar cloaked to early When arriving back to the hotel after being out for dinner the Bar was closed and we were unable to have a drink before going to bed

Review 27:Staff very friendly

Review 28:The best thing about this hotel was the views. Our bed was supposed to be a queen, but very average double. when the air conditioning was turned on you got blown out of the room and extremely noisy ,couldn't possibly sleep with it on .Absolutely no ambience in public areas, and extremely noisy in lobby, also language problems at front desk.

Review 29:Great views

Review 30:Nothing. Great place, attentive staffing, and good location.

Review 31:Love the location, near enough to Waikiki to walk but far away to avoid the crowds. The staff was wonderful, worth the splurge to get valet parking.

Review 32:Ocean view actually partial ocean view. Orientaton of room did not maximize the view. It ditracted from it.

Review 33:The staff were very friendly. The room was very clean.

Review 34:Old , so ,we saw some ants in our bathroom everyday, which we got used to though. The drain in the bathtub didn't work well.

Review 35:Location is wonderful,a little apart from Waikiki's noise and in front of the beautiful beach, next to the park.

Review 36:Our room was terrible. way too small, and couldn't keep the lanai window open because of the noise of the radiators downstairs and the buildings next door. Bed was small too, luckily I was traveling with my 6 year old, but two adults on that bed, not possible. Maybe ok for a business trip but not a vacation where relaxation is first priority. Hotel itself is good so will recommend you upgrade your room if you want to book.

Review 37:location was wonderful. Restaraunts superb food and friendly staff. I had the lobster for dinner at the bottom floor lanai restaurant and it was the best lobster I ever had! cleaning staff does an excellent job, room was spotless when ever we came back from the beach in the afternoon.

Review 38:Parking USD26 a day, found out about it at checkout. Valet parking only causes pointless waiting. Had to wait 10 min to get keys from valet even though our car was eight in front of us. Resort fee also not included in price. Lots of hidden charges along the way.

Review 39:The room was very tiny. The bed was a full size and uncomfortably hard. It barely had an ocean view.

Review 40:The location was close to the beach and walking distance to Waikiki

Review 41:Room was quite small for the price we paid.

Review 42:Staff so friendly and obliging. Restaurant on beachside has fab sunsets. Pay for the beach view.. worth it.

Review 43:The pillows were too firm. Bathroom may be a little bit small for some people. Wifi was not free, so we didn't login.

Review 44:We stayed in an ocean waikiki beach view room on level 8 for one night before leaving the island. The room was great, presumably a remodelled room. Panoramic view of ocean beach around to suburban hills. We chose this hotel at the quiet end of the beach to experience another part of Waikiki. A week earlier we started our holiday near the Moana Surfrider hotel which I considered the epi-centre of the main beach & shopping / and dining zones. The New Otani is a casual 20 minute walk to this point. The hotel bar and open air restaurant on the beachfront had a cool retro vibe. The beach out front had low surf and was great for swimming .

Review 45:High charge for parking 25usd per night

Review 46:View of mountains and sea and no crowds .good service right on the beach .excellent Japanese restaraunt.wrap around balcony and large room and bathroom

Review 47:The standard room was on the border of being small, but the lanai was greatly appreciated.

Review 48:The staff was attending to any request. Desk staff was superb! Room staff superb also.

Review 49:The wi-fi was free, which was a good thing. However, were unable to obtain a good connection. This ended up being good as we found it not a necessity for this stay. I probably could have tried harder ;-)

Review 50:As the headline states, we found this hotel almost ideal. Add to this a remarkable view, a well maintained and staffed property and there are very few picks to nit.

Review 51:Wifi connection was awful. Difficult to sign into the network and signal was unreliable and would constantly be lost. Bellboy seemed upset with me for filling out the towel form as he was getting our towels, but instead of explaining to me in words the reason, he instead kept pointing to the room number column and repeating "room number" over and over to me in a loud and insistent voice, which I found to be quite rude.

Review 52:Room was clean, which is the most important consideration for me when staying at a hotel. Counter staff was nice and welcoming. Beach right off the hotel was wonderful and even has some coral you can explore and snorkel around.

Review 53:The wi-fi didn't work on the room patio, but not really a necessity. Just enjoy the view out there while you can.

Review 54:The location made you feel like you were in the real Waikiki life, not the touristy area. We loved the wedding couples coming to the beach for photos, Memorial Day park festivities, listening to the Luau at the aquarium & watching the park going ons from our patio. The Hau Tree Kanai was our favorite place to dine.

Review 55:Minor quibble: they disconnected the outside faucet where we used to be able to wash our feet before reentering the hotel. I was told this is due to homeless people using it. If so, why not put it on a timer so that the faucet is running during the day? I imagine that the hotel is going to face additional plumbing bills for the extra sand carried into the hotel.

Review 56:Wonderful staff, incredible location at Sans Souci beach, great restaurant! Over the years we have stayed here many times and plan to return.

Review 57:Room was older and in need of upgrading. We were there for only four days and did not upgrade as we were not in the room very much. If one is staying longer, a renovated larger room would be more comfortable.

Review 58:Quieter area of Waikiki with a beautiful beach area. Staff were very accommodating and helpful; with the travel desk being especially good with day trip suggestions. Russel's Convenience store located on the property had everything one would need to complete your visit. The open air dining room was exceptional and we enjoyed wonderful breakfasts to start our days. Great place to stay.

Review 59:when we arrive at 11 pm they said our reservation was cancelled however they would let us stay the evening and indicated we must talk to reservations in the morning the hotel in the morning quickly found our reservation and upgrated us to a beautiful room overlooking the ocean and diamond head a wrap around balcony room 710

Review 60:the location is excellent right on the ocean with a great view of diamond heat right across the street they also have some excellent employees always wanting to please

Review 61:Love the location. Close to Waikiki but not right in it. Nice small hotel with friendly staff and great restaurant. Hau Tree Lanai, great breakfast. Really nice for a romantic by the ocean dinner.

Review 62:Upon check in, the staff attempted to charge me more than $300 over the arranged price. Within the rooms, when using the cold water faucet in the bathroom, it squealed like a wounded sea lion (in all rooms, which is a terrible sound to wake to from another room). The paint is peeling, the tubs (while clean) do not appear so. For the money, is not a good value.

Review 63:The one good thing - the hotel is away from the traffic of waikiki, but within walking distance.

Review 64:Couldn't spend more time basking in the setting sun and eating more food.

Review 65:Both of the restaurants were wonderful. Food, wait staff and atmosphere were all excellent!

Review 66:Bed too soft Tea making supplies insufficient Lack of cups, cutlery, tea & coffee

Review 67:Quieter end of Waikiki, Wonderful view from 6th floor beach room balcony Beach access great Lovely ocean walk to busy shops and eateries Very clean bathroom

Review 68:Nothing bad about our stay.

Review 69:Location is wonderful. Food is very good at the Hau Tree Lanai and the Japanese restaurant, Miyako. Rooms are nice. Employees are friendly and helpful. The beach is nice and friendly with lots of activities. Love the papaya in the a.m. Much quieter than Waikiki.

Review 70:Some rooms are better than others. They have remodeled them all but you have to find the one that suits you. Oceanfront can be very hot in summer and with ocean glare but is perfect in winter.

Review 71:We love the low key, relaxed environment at the New Otani. The beach is perfect and the bar in the lobby is open air and a great place for a snack and watching a ball game. A walk in the park is right out the door. We like being away from the crowds of waikiki.

Review 72:Hotel needs an update...carpets in corridors outside floor elevators area joke..so are the walls...looks very tired and dated, esp.for what youcharge for a room..speaking of, rooms are tiny!! Luckily, ours had acoffee maker, as, apparently, some do not...we had bookedrm,.w/"ocean view" but, instead, had view of Kap.Park..Open area w/foliage in open area center of each floor also lookstired..if you have plants in there, put some native plants(ie.anthiriums, ferns, etc.) and landscape it..would look a lot better...

Review 73:New Otani's a great place to stay...wonderful quiet location, awayfrom Waikiki hubbub...good bar and restaurant right on site, too...The staff is THE BEST by far! A;lways helpful, friendly...

Review 74:The bed was a futon style mattress. Seemed well used and not rotated often. Kind of odd layout for the room. No table lamps in sitting area, only overhead can lights.

Review 75:love the location. Very low key. funky, which I like. Not in the hubbub of Waikiki, but close enough.

Review 76:Double check your booking as I booked an ocean view room and it came up as a normal room. I then had to pay for the upgrade every night plus tax every night as well!

Review 77:They had private acess to beach and beach towels and mats were free! Bell boys and vallet parkers were always friendly and around 24/7

Review 78:Position right by a beach and a park Friendly helpful staff This is a boutique hotel. There is no swimming pool but it is quite literally on a beach with a coral reef for snorkelling. There is valet parking. It is quiet but still only about 20 minutes walk from the edge of Waikiki.

Review 79:the decoration of the hotel was in poor taste, updates could have been classy and elegant, but failed in this regard. I liked the Old Otani better than the updated one. Ownership needs to hire a new classy decorator. It is such a shame to waste such a beautiful location....

Review 80:Away from the maddening crowd of Waikiki, beautiful beach

Review 81:One of the worst experience I have had. The service was horrible. The staff needed much more training. They need to speak proper English and need good manners. I will never have a party again.

Review 82:I chose the lowest price room for a one night stay, and couldn't have been happier! Fresh cotton sheets, a good shower, and a little balcony of my own with a beach view....not to mention the best breakfast ever in the morning. I will definitely be back, as I enjoyed the ambience and situation, much more than at a fancy new modern hotel more in the thick of things.

Review 83:We stayed in an upgraded room with a beautiful viw of Diamond Head and the park. The walk to Waikiki was relaxing and fun for people watching. The best part is the restaurants! Miyako's is the best Japanese restaurant I have ever eaten at. The food was fresh & well prepared & the service personable. The Hau Tree & Sunset Lanai bar was ONO.

Review 84:Some of the rooms are a little small and some face the "mountains". The mountain view would be fine unless you are on the lower floors and then you get a view of the top of a building. So pay the extra $50 to get a water view.

Review 85:The hotel is located immediately southeast of the War Memorial Natarium and is short walk to the main craziness of Waikiki. The beach is quieter and very very nice. There are three restaurants on property including a very nice traditional Japanese place and the hotel is walking distance from some out of the way local spots like The South Shore Grill.

Review 86:No Problems.

Review 87:Welcoming atmosphere, very easy access to the beach (many interesting fish to be seen), away from the "madding crowds", some very good food in the Japanese and outside restaurants.

Review 88:Water pressure for the shower was pretty weak.

Review 89:Great ocean front room with a view looking over Kaimana beach. The staff was friendly and breakfast at the Hao Tree was excellent. Far enough away from the craziness of Waikiki but close enough to walk to restaurants and nightlife.

Review 90:They were doing renos while we were there. We were in a brand new room that wasn't set-up properly. The wifi didn't initially work (needed to call in a technician), the mini-fridge wasn't plugged in (we needed to open cupboards and drawers to find access the outlet), and strangest of all - the bathroom entry light was connected to the "toilet room" light, and it shone directly onto the bed! So if I had to get up in the middle of the night to use the washroom, I had to turn on a light that shone directly onto the bed. Very strange and easily fixable - poor design feature.

Review 91:Location was great. A short walk to Waikiki Beach, away from all the craziness. The hotel staff were excellent, the beachfront was beautiful, the restaurant was great. I would stay here again.

Review 92:Parking was a little difficult. other than that nothing to complain.

Review 93:the location was amazing, you get the beach without the huge crowds. The staff when i checked in were warm and friendly. Couldnt have been happier. Will be booking here every chance i get.

Review 94:Shuttle bus driver

Review 95:Good environment

Review 96:This was not a bad experience, but it will be good once all the renovation is finished.

Review 97:Excellent location and great views.

Review 98:The cost

Review 99:The location

Review 100:Lovely hotel in a great location with a fantastic staff. We have stayed here 5-6 times over the years and always enjoy the stay!

Review 101:The views were amazing! The room was beautiful. Staff very helpful!

Review 102:Ongoing renovation but not noticed.

Review 103:Hotel located at east end of Waikiki buffered from busy tourist area so much like Waikiki of the 1960's.

Review 104:The restaurant's food and ambiance.

Review 105:I did not have a microwave in my room

Review 106:First-time to hawaii and the lovation was wonderful. I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE LANIA. Very quiet.

Review 107:Most everything. View from our room was one of the best we have ever experienced in all our visits to Honolulu.

Review 108:air con not working properly, work going on in the hotel

Review 109:away from the city centre

Review 110:Staff and employees fvery friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable. Location outside of Waikiki is key.

Review 111:Small out-of-date rooms.

Review 112:Seems to have past its prime in the 80s.

Review 113:Room air conditioning wasn't consistent

Review 114:Location

Review 115:Excellent position right on the beach, Kihei was not as busy as other beaches with good local facilities across the road. Helpful pleasant staff.

Review 116:None

Review 117:Great place away from the Waikiki business and a perfect sandy beach in front of the hotel

Review 118:Small rooms are small!

Review 119:Lovely, very comfortable room-once we moved to larger size.

Review 120:We booked in march, upgraded and confirmed room. Had printed receipts luckily. When we arrived in July they did not have our reservation.

Review 121:Location!

Review 122:Staff not friendly but effective. Long waits at times. Not enough staff.

Review 123:Proximity to a lovely beach

Review 124:The wi-fi wasn't the best, always dropping out

Review 125:Our view was mainly other buildings.

Review 126:The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 127:Location is awesome. Staff are typical Hawaiian in that, I mean superbly friendly and acccmmodating.

Review 128:leaving....

Review 129:Beach, DH hiking all close

Review 130:No pool

Review 131:Nice beach
