Reviews for The Spyglass Inn
Review 1:Outstanding breakfast: eggs, bacon, home-made cakes and granola, goat cheese, goat butter, home made jams, all made of local stuff. The owner was very nice, rooms were very clean and the entire house was cozy.
Review 2:The view was completely obstructed by trees, and the basement room disconnected us from the outside.
Review 3:The well-informed hostess prepared excellent breakfasts.
Review 4:I liked everything.
Review 5:The owner was gracious & a had a great breakfast both mornings we were there. She makes beautiful quilts & offers suggestions of where to go in Homer.
Review 6:Not a totally bad thing; the bed was super comfy, but the downstairs room was a bit musty smelling and dark (good for sleeping in the summer but not good for the sinuses).
Review 7:The setting is spectacular - great views of the water and gorgeous gardens. Pat is a fun, terrific host!
Review 8:there was no view of the Bay from the downstairs patio.
Review 9:the rooms were comfortable and decorated nicely. Pat was a gracious host. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 10:In the captain's quarters we had a view of the beautiful garden. Great breakfasts, owner very friendly and helpful. We did not actually spend much time in Homer, as we came to visit Nanwalek, but would love to come back.
Review 11:Room is pretty basic. Looks like spare bedroom at grandma's house.
Review 12:Convenient location to everything in Homer. Pat is very welcoming with great suggestions for where to go and where to dine.
Review 13:The host prepared Breakfast according to our dietary needs or restrictions. The rooms were comfortable with beautiful quilts and privacy. But there was also time at breakfast to socialize with other guests.
Review 14:Our room was below the kitchen so sleeping in late was not possible. No heat in the bathroom (not en suite). TV remote didn't work.
Review 15:Great breakfast.
Review 16:Nothing to complain about..
Review 17:I liked the easy, private access to our room. The comfort and quaint feeling I had during my stay. The hospitality was terrific!
Review 18:Room was decorated nicely with gas parlor stove for heat/ambiance. Breakfast was very nice.
Review 19:Privacy on downstairs area of home. One needs to haul suitcase across front lawn and down to lower level in the rear of home. Television did not work in my room, I was asked to go to neighboring room if I wanted the news ( TV).
Review 20:does bed and breakfast mean you have access to the kitchen? sit around and eat your own snack? boil water? maybe we should have asked?
Review 21:good location, very nice hostess, lovely breakfast especially where to eat. they have some really nice restaurants in homer
Review 22:That we couldn't stay longer.
Review 23:We enjoyed eating our dinner with a bottle of wine out on the patio in the lovely evening sun. It is a wonderful place to stay for a craftswoman to appreciate Pat's beautiful work and her delicious cooking..
Review 24:price (Alaskan prices..), but compare other places is normal..
Review 25:owner very kind and helpfull, we booked very late and the owner waited us late in the night. Room clean and cosy, breakfast wonderfull
Review 26:Although free wifi was available we found the connection not to be very reliable in our room - it kept cutting out which was frustrating. However this may have been because the room was annexe from main house and wi fi connection may be better in rooms within main house.
Review 27:Pat was very welcoming and friendly and also a brilliant cook as breakfasts were great with lovely home baked goods as well as hot cooked food. We stayed in the Captains Quarters Room King Suite which was very spacious and beautifully furnished, it also had its own private deck with views over garden and sea in the near distance.
Review 28:Wi-Fi TV did not work at all- Looked great though and I am sure will be fixed soon Noisy Neighboring Guests Would have been nice to have a small table with 2 chairs in the room since the new WiFi Tv was not working. It was difficult playing cards on the bed.
Review 29:Breakfast Goodies Yard Bed and Quilt Quaintness Back Door Entry Heater in Bedroom
Review 30:We liked it that we could go back and forth without having to go though the owners doors, The furnishings were a mix of old and new, with handmade items such as bed spreads, pillow coverings and some really great hanging bed spreads. The owner was very helpful and fixed us some awesome breakfasts. Be sure to have some of the homemade granola and yogurt. This was the first time my daughter has had the chance to stay at a bed and breakfast and now she is spoiled! The price was right and the facility was all you could wish for.
Review 31:We have nothing negative to say.
Review 32:Pat was a welcoming and wonderful host. Her home became our home for 2 short days and nights. The king suite was very comfortable. Breakfast was specially prepared by Pat and she and the other guests made for interesting breakfast conversation. We had a good time. Thanks Pat.
Review 33:That we didn't book a longer stay!
Review 34:Cozy with comforts of home. Exquisite homemade quilt on our very comfortable bed. Great hospitality Fabulous location with great deck that had nice view We especially loved the endless coffee!!!! Due to our schedule we missed breakfast at the house so Pat packed us her homemade granola and baked goods, yum!! I'm sure her hot meal was delicious.
Review 35:Having to leave!
Review 36:Pat's breakfasts were delicious. Three different menus for the three days we were there, all made from scratch. The room, while small, was nicely decorated, comfortable, and very clean. Pat is a very nice host and we sat and talked on several occasions, even having wine one evening.
Review 37:The view was not as great as it could be as promised in name of place
Review 38:All very comfortable and teh breakfast en famille was nice as you get to meet other travellers
Review 39:Smaller dining area for breakfast so it's a little "cozy" around the table when all rooms are reserved and everyone is eating at the same time; however, it worked out and was not even a real negative for us. Just a heads up for anyone who is particular about their own personal space.
Review 40:Comfortable Bed; Great windows with a view onto the cute backyard; Separate outside entrance so that we didn't have to walk through the main body of the house when returning at night; Great breakfast, Pat is a great host!
Review 41:Loved our stay. Large room with a huge bed that was very comfortable. There was a balcony outside overlooking the garden which was lovely to sit out on. The host was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. She made breakfast in the morning which was amazing. We would stay here again on return to Alaska.
Review 42:The room we had was clean, but the location was rather dark as it was downstairs and had basement level windows. The TV wasn't hooked up, but probably could have been if requested.
Review 43:The Spyglass Inn was easy to find. The owner was pleasant and it was easy to come and go due to our quarters being downstairs and in the back. That way we didn't disturb any of the other guests.
Review 44:Na
Review 45:Everything about it.
Review 46:room was very small. Inconvenient access to room.

Review 55:Comfy atmosphere, sweetest lady and bountiful Belgian waffles <3
Review 56:The help in setting up fishing trip, special request for pak a lunch. Room was great, very clean.
Review 57:Little pricey--would like another luggage stand for 2nd suitcase
Review 58:Nice sized room and yummy breakfast with home-made granola and cinnamon rolls
Review 59:We will definitely be back!!
Review 60:We would have preferred to have the bathroom in the room instead of across the hall.
Review 61:Location was good and the front of the white house was quaint with upstairs dorma windows. The bed was comfy and there was a full bathroom across the hall. The bed covering was a lovely patchwork quilt made by the owner Pat.
Review 62:The facility had a flood due to pipe burst and the fan blew all night and made annoying noise. But this is temporary and will be fixed soon. The facility will be quiet again and ideal to stay.
Review 63:The Spyglass inn is located in a quiet neighborhood and the inn keeper is professional.
Review 64:The only negative I experienced was the wi-fi was a bit spotty.
Review 65:The location is wonderful and there are lovely views of the mountains and the ocean in the distance. It is within walking distance to several good restaurants and shops. Pat, the owner, is very helpful with ideas of what to do and knowledgeable of the local tour operators. She also is familiar with the local restaurants. Breakfast is served each morning and it is delicious with homemade granola, eggs, waffles, fresh fruit... The whole atmosphere and home is very comfortable.
Review 66:The momma moose and her babies in the back yard was great. But, not guaranteed in the future. Pat takes an interest in providing a breakfast her tenants want and at a time they want.
Review 67:The best part was the owner, Pat. She was friendly and made us feel very welcome. She is a superior cook and breakfast was great everyday. She asks for preferences and they appear like magic (I only drink decaf tea and the second day there was a huge selection). She knows Homer intimately and booked us a hiking trip and dinner with ease. One sunny day we decided to picnic on her deck (great views) and we ended up drinking wine with her and learning all the scoop around town. It was just fun and relaxing, what more could you want?
Review 68:We were in a basement suite that led out to the back so we had to put down the blinds and miss the view once other people began staying.
Review 69:The owner Pat was very helpful in suggesting things to do and helping set up where necessary. The location was central so easy to walk most anywhere. The breakfasts were excellent! Mostly scratch made and very tasty. The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Review 70:Nothing perfect stay
Review 71:Our room was decorated comfortably with an artist's flare in both sharing regional art and design. Both hosts were warm and friendly and we shared stories and experiences at a leisurely breakfast with abundant homemade treats. If going back I would definitely stay again
Review 72:Not expensive by Alaskan standards but quite expensive compared to lower48 states and uk.
Review 73:Arden & Pat very freindly. Room was very clean, nice setting andbreakfast was all home cooked and excellent. Best so far on our trip.
Review 74:The owners were very friendly and made us feel like family. They had good suggestions for places to eat and things to do even to where we could buy souvenirs.
Review 75:It was a little hard to find because the our gps tried to send us down atheir street from a direction where the road does not exist. Other thanthat it was a good experience.
Review 76:The owners were friendly and breakfast was fantastic. The location wasgood for getting to the Spit and other attractions.
Review 77:Bathroom not within room. Owner pushing to sell chamber of commerce items and personally crafted items. Felt some pressure with regard to this.
Review 78:Friendly, helpful host. Breakfasts were good. Easy access to what we wanted to do while in Homer. Neighborhood setting with wildlife in the yard (Moose and calf)
Review 79:Not a problem, but bathroom across hall from bedroom. Hosts provided a bathrobe!
Review 80:Conscientious owners knowledgeable about local activities, warm welcome, terrific food, outdoor deck. Worked with our early hour of departure.
Review 81:Kerosene heater had strong odor, couldn't use it.. Room was tiny, inbasement. Breakfast was to be at 8am, by 7:45 I heard people assembling.By shortly after 8am, cooked food was cold, coffee almost gone, had nowarning that being a bit late meant cold food. In New England, where wereside, a b & b is almost always spacious, nicely furnished, eatingtime is flexible and food is kept warm. Regional differences, I guess. Alocal motel would be a better choice.
Review 82:Convenient location to downtown
Review 83:n/a
Review 84:Owners were friendly. The room was great, decorated beautifully with quilts made by the owner. Very close to activities. Not far from the Spit. Owner had good rcommendations for activities and places to eat. Full breakfast made by owner was delicious!
Review 85:Very small and cold room. Space heater had to run for a while before it was warm enough to get undressed for bed. Bathroom was also very cold. Television small and sat too low to see while lying down in bed. This was fine if you are just looking for a place to sleep. Not a place to relax or set a romantic mood.
Review 86:Location convenient. Owners friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, good variety, filling, good conversation. Moose right outside the back door.
Review 87:We were upgraded with no additional charge which was a delightfulsurprise! We were served a wonderful breakfast and had a niceconversation with our hostess. We have already told people about ournice stay and wouldn't have a problem staying there again if thesituation arises.
Review 88:Didn't get to see any bears....no really it was great, there is nothing I didn't like
Review 89:Staying at Spyglass Inn was a real pleasure, our room was lovely with a gas fire we had moose wandering in the back yard and to top it off Pat was fantastic, the breakfast food she made us was superb, she also arrange for us to go to Seldovia. In terms of us staying at an B&B this was our top experience thanks to Pat - she is wonderful.
Review 90:Room was in walkout basement which is not a good location for someone with asthma.
