Reviews for Hougoumont Hotel Fremantle
Review 1:None
Review 2:Loved the free bikes from the hotel to explore Fremantle and cycle along the coast exploring beaches. Also very convenient to be able to charge food back to the hotel from a couple of nearby restaurants.
Review 3:The staff were lovely. The complimentary drinks and nibbles in the evening were very nice. Rooms are small but comfortable. Location excellent right off the cappuccino strip.
Review 4:Not the best value for money. Very cramped and bed was extremely hard. Tossed all night and woke very sore. Wasn't told about breakfast. Paying for parking ontop of a already inflated price.
Review 5:Location is fantastic. Great concept. Clean.
Review 6:Get a bigger sizes room if u have a big luggage. We stayed in the smaller cabin sized ones as all bigger rooms are booked and found it to be a little squeezy. The bed is also too soft for us.
Review 7:The decor and vibe of the hotel is what we like- industrial minimalist chic. Service is impeccable and the happy hour of free canapés and wine at 5pm everyday is a great idea, even though I don't drink. The location of the hotel is at the heart of Fremantle. You can walk everywhere in 10 min!
Review 8:The only bad thing I would say is that the rooms are very compact, but really well done.
Review 9:The location is perfect, in the center of town close to restaurants and cafes and also a short walk to the Rottnest Island ferry terminal. The staff here are so friendly and couldn't do enough to help.
Review 10:Mattress was a bit hard for my liking. If you want breakfast be up on time because some smart ass emptied the breakfast buffett onto two plates in front of us and left nothing for anyone else. Should not be aloud to bring it to the room.
Review 11:The location is fantastic really could not be better. Staff were very nice especially Carolina she was very helpful telling us what to do, see do's and dont's around freo.
Review 12:Had an amazing time at the Hougoumont Hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and accomodating. My partner and I had a great night's stay and we will definately be going back to stay at the Hougoumont again!
Review 13:The room was ridiculously small. We had no where to put 2 large suitcases and no where to sit and relax. Too expensive for the square metres.
Review 14:Location was excellent
Review 15:Nothing, nada, zip and diddly squat. Everything was great.
Review 16:Room was very modern, and well appointed. Best location in Freo. Staff were very friendly. Great secure parking also.
Review 17:Great in every way.
Review 18:A delightful hotel, great friendly staff, secure car parking, right in the heart of historic bustling Fremantle. Couldn't have asked for more. And the foyer was serving coffee all day plus snacks early evening. The hotel itself is in a partly restored old building and celebrates the last convict ship to arrive in WA.
Review 19:Bed too hard, though immediately upon request, a topper pad was provided.
Review 20:Location & staff, prompt attention to requests, gorgeous toiletries refreshed daily with room service, free water bottles, coffee machine with pods in room, fruit, food & drinks provided at breakfast & drinks/nibbles on weekdays late afternoon
Review 21:Beautiful small hotel right in the heart of Fremantle. Rooms are modernly decorated and clean. Service in the lead up to our stay and during our stay was fabulous!
Review 22:Room size, very small
Review 23:Great service - the staff were friendly and accommodating Complimentary drink and nibbles service was excellent Location was amazing
Review 24:It would be nice to have a big bath :) If the fridge was switched on and cold that would have been good too.
Review 25:Everything was fabulous, your place is a hidden gem. Will definately recommend to our family and friends.
Review 26:Very small rooms for Australian standards. It was like a typical tiny European room with no room to put our luggage.
Review 27:Location was close to everything in Fremantle. Good wifi and fridge in room was handy. Complementary toiletries were nice quality, iron & hair dryer in room was convenient.
Review 28:Amazing on so many levels ! Location incredible ! Staff amazing ! Facilities and cleanliness second to none we will certainly be back a lot and have already recommended to others !!
Review 29:Room is very small, like a room in a Japan hotel room. But oh so stylish.
Review 30:Central location, right next to everything. Reception was friendly and helpful. The stay was pleasant. Lobby is just beAutiful with Scandi furniture. Cheery colour scheme makes you feel good
Review 31:No mini bar which is a small inconvenience and rooms are quite small which is the only major downside
Review 32:One of the newer hotels in Fremantle and in a great spot. Good for business travel though, i stay here on all my Fremantle trips
Review 33:There is absolutley nothing that you could fault.
Review 34:Everything about this hotel was a delight from the welcoming staff that made you feel like you were staying in their own home, to the highest standard of accomodation and to all the extras that were not chargeable. This included free wifi, free light pastries and high quality teas & coffees for breakfast, an evening complimentary glass of wine with nibbles. Any request was met with a 'Yes, we can help you with that!' Well done to Manager Tim and his extremely attentive staff. A fabulous and totally unexpected experience. Major hotel chains could learn what customer satisfaction really means from the Hougoumont Hotel.
Review 35:The rooms are small and there's not much privacy when you're in the bathroom as the door doesn't seal shut. We were also asked our preference of mattress firmness and were disappointed to find it was not as we requested (wouldn't have minded otherwise!) They charged us for the mini bar items we requested prior to staying but then didn't consume. However they promptly refunded the charges when we pointed this out.
Review 36:The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are well designed despite being small. The showers are luscious and the bed is big and comfortable. The staff were friendly and the location is premium and close to all the best Fremantle cafes and shops.
Review 37:A great boutique hotel with nicely sized rooms and brilliant facilities. The staff at the hotel were particularly fabulous with special mention reserved for Nicola, Bec and Sol who did everything to make our stay as good as possible. On arrival we were indulged with a complimentary glass of wine despite the daily wine and cheese hour between 17:00 and 18:00 having just finished and the niceties didn't stop there. We stayed in a Cabin Room which was adequately sized, had a very comfortable bed and small yet effective shower room with some nice ammenities. Bicycles were available from the hotel should you wish to take a ride out and through the hotel we had access to a well equipped 24 hour gym around the corner. The hotel itself was situated right in the centre of Fremantle and is surrounded by some nice restaurants and opposite a lovely coffee ship which we visited for breakfast each day. If wanting any advice on places to visit and great on-hand experienced advice Bec was always willing to offer wonderful guidance. On our final evening we got chatting to Nicola and Sol who were off duty and ending up going for dinner with them at a restaurant they recommended with a couple of other regular characters and had a great time. All in all a sadly short stay and I'll certainly be staying here again any time I visit Fremantle. The team certainly made this a memorable experience!
Review 38:didn't mind the small room but the shower/ toilet unit was tiny ...
Review 39:location, nice atmosphere, cheese 'n wine hour , great staff - best service
Review 40:Vacuuming the hall at 730am on a Sat!
Review 41:Book a stateroom, you won't be disappointed with the spacious room and facilities. Nice to be offered complimentary water and fruit throughout the day and a light breakfast is available as well. Central location, less than 5 mins walk to the train station, the markets are 3 mins away and the Freo Prison (a great place to visit) about 8 mins walk.
Review 42:We stayed here on our wedding night. The staff were very accommodating giving us an early check in and the option of champagne, chocolates and rose petals in our room. The bed was very comfortable and facilities modern and clean.
Review 43:The type of room I had maybe a tad small.
Review 44:Location . Seconds away from centre of freo. Modern, nice furnishings and beautiful common room/ reception with use of a heap of Apple Mac computers with printer, and pen and paper next to each, as well. Also free waterbottles and apples . (Attention to detail . ) Very classy. Definitely stay there again.
Review 45:Curtains not easy to close, blue screen on phone - not so good for sleeping.
Review 46:Location close to free CAT bus, cappucino strip and places of interest. Tea or coffee in foyer, fruit bowl, compact rooms very comfortable. Bike loans, nice breakfast across the road.
Review 47:The bedrooms are just a little too small, particularly as we had quite a lot of luggage.
Review 48:The hotel was centrally located which made exploring Fremantle very easy. Happy Hour in the lounge every afternoon at 5.00 was a lovely touch as it allowed to mingle with the other guests. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful.
Review 49:Rooms are a tad small but for a quick business trip they are fine. If I was travelling wiyh my wife I would opt for a hotel with bigger rooms.
Review 50:Great location, staff. Loved the comp wine/nibblies. A very funky little hotel
Review 51:The standard bedroom is very small . No desk in room and no privacy with bathroom . Moved to bigger room and paid extra . Worth the move . Free bike hire is good.
Review 52:Staff are wonderful . Wine and cheese tasting week nights is a nice touch .
Review 53:The location was excellent and permitted access to the most delightful restaurants and the experience was one of almost being in Italy. We would not like to have had a room smaller than the state room. The staff were excellent and the 5.00pm drinks permitted a most welcoming experience. Would definately stay here again.
Review 54:Rooms slightly on the smaller side - however I still managed to have my hair stylist and make up artist come in and do my hair and make up comfortably. We only stayed one night so it was perfect.
Review 55:The whole look and feel of the hotel was very up market and was an extremely comfortable stay.
Review 56:Bed was a little small. I am 6'6 so my gripe would only be applicable to a small demographic. Excuse the pun.
Review 57:Great staff, clean, hospitality, location, room fit out, facilities.
Review 58:The floral print shirts on the female staff. The rest of the decor is amazing.
Review 59:Cool design, quiet hotel even when full. Complimentary Wine and Cheese in the early evening. Coffee on check in.
Review 60:The illustrations of the Houghoumont - the ship - are totally the wrong era - a Spanish Galleon! .... when it was a late 19th Century frigate. Fresh flowers on each floor ... while the artificial flowers are good quality ones ... for a quality boutique hotel real ones should be standard. Pillows should be upgraded to better quality. Towels far too small for the room price. Someone should check the panelling over the desk in Room 206 - really botchy job! The devil is in the details!
Review 61:The connection to Fremantle's history!! The big bathroom! The really friendly staff - they were interested in who I was, what I was doing in Fremantle, very welcoming and while obviously not born and bred locals, had a friendly Freo way about them. Great 'uniforms', very designer cool. Location is just the best! Saving a part of Fremantle's history in a well-designed, sensitive way. The onsite parking! The casual but classy reception and ground floor area. The devil is in the details!
Review 62:Excellent location, close to everything you could need Comfortable bed Nice bathroom Friendly and helpful staff that were always eager to pint out the local attractions and great places to eat.
Review 63:Room was much smaller than I expected, and would not have been large enough for two people. Some more coat hangers in the wardrobe and a chair instead of a stool would have been helpful.
Review 64:The central location was excellent. Staff were very helpful.
Review 65:We stayed for two nights, because the rooms are a little smaller than a normal hotel room it got a little stale smelling, but it wasn't that bad
Review 66:The reception staff went above and beyond, by far the best I have ever come across.
Review 67:Friendliness of the staff. Location was really good. Wine and cheese between 5-6. Was a great weekend. Loved that the parking was right next door
Review 68:Not a welcoming hotel. No room facilities. A room with a king bed for two people had one chair to sit on - no table. Lighting was terrible. - over near the TV one couldn't see anything.
Review 69:The shower was great. The Room was a good size. Car park was sufficient but essential.
Review 70:I loved the boutique style of the hotel. very personal.Staff were lovely and really enjoyed the happy hour on the Wednesday night before we sailed. It gave us a chance to meet fellow travellers. The upgrade also was lovely. Thank you.Diane and Brian Ferguson .NSW
Review 71:The only drawback to me is the free water bottles. It's just not cool to be giving away all that plastic, there must be a better way. They state that they are eco friendly and sustainable, but this flies in the face of it. It's a glamorous, generous idea, but it's a fail environmentally.
Review 72:Gorgeous, modern hotel right in the heart of Freo. Friendly, unobtrusive staff and free wine and cheese on weeknights. Excellent!
Review 73:Room was small but I didn't go there to spend time in the room except to sleep :)
Review 74:The receptionist was very friendly and I liked how there was free bottles of water available. The room was very clean.
Review 75:It would be nice to have more than 1 stool to sit on which made it difficult if we had wanted to order from room service.
Review 76:Friendly staff and lovely clean accommodation. Secure parking and great location.
Review 77:As the hotel is made of shipping containers the walls are very thin! We were kept awake by a couple having a wild night and the female screams of pleasure got a little tiring on the 5th occasion!! Watch out for the parking charge of $22 thought this would be included in the accommodation charge.
Review 78:Modern and clean. Central location no need for breakfast as so many great cafes within 500 metres. Bed linen fantastic. Great to be able to park in town.
Review 79:The room was way too small for a travelling couple with several bags. The only place we could open our bags was on the bed. Breakfast - we were referred across the street to a trendy establishment for an over-priced ($14.50) bowl of grain with a couple of strawberries and a blob of yoghurt. Two Weet Bix would have sufficed.
Review 80:Location - near everything - couldn't have been better. Clean, comfortable and quiet. Courteous and helpful staff
Review 81:nowhere to work, nowhere to hang clothes, nowhere just to relax in your room if you didn't want to be out all day. Got a sore back as the bed was the only place to sit for reading or watching TV. Just too small, especially for business travel
Review 82:Clean, friendly staff, lovely decor, good location
Review 83:The room was tiny, no room for 2 people, especially not with a bag. We were kept awake late both nights, (which were mid week)by really loud music and base. We called reception to enquire where it was coming from, and We were told that they had never heard of such noise, making us feel rather stupid. They then said that it's not their fault and to put in some ear plugs. This is not acceptable especially considering the very expensive room rate which is WAY too much for this hotel. Customers should be advised of the daily noise until at least midnight from the local night clubs before making bookings.
Review 84:Location was good.
Review 85:Great location. Room is quite small but comfortable, and all we expected for a one night stay. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome!
Review 86:Cabin rooms perhaps a bit tiny and the price for one night stay a little on the expensive side (especially as on-site parking, an added extra).
Review 87:Very comfortable bed - a great night's sleep had! Not too noisy, given the close proximity to Freo's café and bar precinct, which makes for the great location - heaps of choice for eating out. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 88:Not any bad experiences at all... but to improve for the price I would install a larger range other than the free to air TV, maybe just a movie channel or something like foxtel? A bath would have been AMAZING but that is a long stretch :) We had a gorgeous time!!!!
Review 89:Spacious room with lovely facilities. Super clean and comfortable. Gorgeous staff and atmosphere. Bathroom was HUGE and gorgeous.
Review 90:The staff and the extremely comfortable bed. Even though the room was compact, the little extras, like the Nespresso machine and free bottle water were appreciated
Review 91:The staff of the hotel made it an unforgettable experience. I have travelled the world for 20+ years for business and pleasure a will say that this is the best service i have ever come experienced. The location was great. It was such a pleasure staying at this hotel.
Review 92:Loved the location and the rooms. Perfect for what we wanted to do. A large, secure carpark allowed easy parking while staying at the hotel. 30 second walk to the cappuccino strip and 1 min walk to High St.
Review 93:Drunken stag do, didn't enjoy being harassed by them in the foyer - twice. Was given a key to our room - it was already occupied with drunk men. Arrived back to our new room after evening out to a leaking roof in the bathroom, floor was soaked. Had to move rooms at a stupid time in the morning...staff were gracious and seemed powerless as the drunk people were the managers 'friends' this made it worse I think. Not a good advert for standards.
Review 94:Room nicely furnished.
Review 95:Bathroom quite compact and not so private if someone else in room. Very nice marble though.
Review 96:Very trendy hotel in great location. Very friendly helpful staff. Would stay again.
Review 97:Rooms where to small with see-trough glass walls into the bathroom. You can see everything happening in the bathroom from outside but not the other way. What's the point?
Review 98:The location was excellent and the staff very friendly
Review 99:bedroom wasn't particularly spacious, our cabin room was compact
Review 100:Central location, friendly staff, unlited bottled water and tea-coffee, most amazing bed ever, good shower and facilities, situated opposite The Attic cafe which does amazing food and the coffee is superb
Review 101:We requested twin beds, through booking.vom, however when we arrived we were informed that they did not supply twin beds. Someone should have reported back to booking.com about this. However the service of the front desk was first class and they refunded our car hire parking fee and a complimentary bottle of wine. Service was excellent.
Review 102:The quirkiness of the hotel and location. staff were provided good service
Review 103:We were assigned a teensy room at the end of the ground floor corridor on the left. The room smelt very badly as though a rat or several were decaying behind something. Tiredness overcame us fortunately. The mention to staff next morning elicited no response.
Review 104:The location. The bed. Other aspects were acceptable for a one-night stay.
Review 105:nothing was all good
Review 106:Great location but just around the corner from the main street the restaurants and shops are on so you get a good nights sleep, comfy bed, great coffee in the main lobby area where you can sit and read the papers
Review 107:The special request we made for the mini-bar was not fulfilled and I don't think the mini-bar refrigerator was turned on. Also, we could have used two soaps (one for shower and one for sink). Other than that, everything was great.
Review 108:The staff was great and the location couldn't have been better.
Review 109:We loved the hotel. The location was great a short walk to everything in freemantle. The rooms a small but very comfortable and clean and the hotel vibe was fun. Would highly recommend it
Review 110:The rooms are small - make sure you know your travel partner before booking :) we also felt that the hotel was lacking an outside chill-out space/ courtyard where you can sit and have a drink/ read.
Review 111:Loved the location, right in the mix of everything. We also liked the decor and the free wifi throughout the building- which is such a rarity for Australian hotels! The free coffees and teas were an excellent perk.
Review 112:Charge back restaurant, Bennys, service was terrible. they hold cheese and wine happy hour each evening, only went to one and I didn't feel included when I did participate. fridge in my room didn't work for three days
Review 113:Location
Review 114:Nothing bad to say at all.
Review 115:Friendly staff, quick check in and out. Although the rooms are small u know that before u arrive and it's just a little bit different. Clean room although tea and coffee container was a bit dusty but that's just being picky!!! Would definitely return here again. Wanted a smaller hotel and that's what I got and enjoyed.
Review 116:everything was perfect!
Review 117:everything was very personal from the booking, the follow up call to ask if I wanted anything from the shop to the check out email. everything was perfect. I cannot wait to spend another night.
Review 118:Location excellent - just off Market street, but still quiet. Reception has large Mac screens to access internet/email, plus in-room wifi, so communications well covered. 5pm 'happy hour' with complimentary wine & nibbles was classy. We had a Superior Cabin - a recycled shipping container! Tight squeeze, but it all worked well.
Review 119:Room was very small - for 2 people with suitcases. Car Parking charges are high.
Review 120:Location .... Right in the thick of it. Helpful with storing cases after check-out.
Review 121:I love the location and proximity to the shops and the ambiance of the hotel is different and very nice. Staff are helpful and friendly. Will surely recommend and stay again next time.
Review 122:It was a warm night and the ac kept changing every 2 hours instead of staying at the temperature we wanted it on. And as it was a shipping container it was small, yet the bill was big.
Review 123:Locality, right next to the cafe strip. Staff were helpful and friendly. Novelty of the shipping container. Parking, for a few dollars more.
Review 124:The room was so small it was claustrophobic. We only stayed forthe night and left at 05.30. I could not have stayed longer.
Review 125:Staff very willing to help
Review 126:Nothing really. Room is quite small, but fine for few days and shower is very good.
Review 127:Great central position, friendly helpful staff, nice big reception/lounge area. Good shower
Review 128:A small baggage trolley would have helped, but just a tiny concern as we liked it all!
Review 129:High standard of staff. The way we were made to feel welcome. Perfect location for accessing Fremantle on foot. Luxury fittings. Attention to detail. Perfect for a busy couple with specific needs to have peace and comfort.
Review 130:The hotel is not cheap, if you choose a Stateroom and when you add parking costs. Even in the Staterooms there is limited storage space.
Review 131:This modern hotel is only a few steps away from "The Strip" of Fremantle. The so-called Staterooms (32 m2) are nice, and have a well designed and spacious bathroom. The private parking is very practical and easily accessible. The staff is friendly.
Review 132:The rooms were way too small, it was like staying in an upgraded caravan.
Review 133:The staff were fabulous - very friendly, rooms were immaculate and we were only three seconds from the cafe strip and a few minutes from all local attractions in Fremantle. Great place to stay if all that you are after is a bed and a clean shower - if you stay any longer I fear you may suffer from claustrophobia!
