Reviews for Palacio da Lousa Boutique Hotel

Review 1:The door-closing of the neighboured rooms were very noisy and I felt very disturbed about this. I think, this could be changed in such a good hotel and they have to do anything at this! The Restaurant was expansive regarding to what you got for a dinner ... The coffee at the breakfast was also nasty, was a kind of coffee substitute.

Review 2:This hotel is in a very silent place near the centre of Lousa. During my stay I felt very comfortable and pleasant. The crew was very helpful and friendly and my room was very clean and in good order.

Review 3:Long way and many stairs from car park to hotel. In fairness I was offered a parking service. Insurance problems made me decline. I have limited walking ability.

Review 4:Fantastic ceilings and decor from its days as a Palace. Very nicely restored. First class evening meal, among the best we have had in Portugal

Review 5:Our room was situated in the new wing and the bath was equipped with a shower curtain. In a hotel of this standard I would expect a glass screen, not a curtain.

Review 6:Beautiful communal area, especially the restaurant. Excellent price: In November we payed Euros 141 for a double room for 3 nights B & B.

Review 7:They need to advertise more clearly where the car park is!

Review 8:Beautiful old hotel fully modernised facilities, good size rooms, great bathrooms, nice open lounges to relax in

Review 9:The breakfast was somewhat mediocre,

Review 10:The bed and room were very comfortable and clean. The older part of the hotel, the palace, was very well maintained and impressive. Overall a very pleasant place to stay.

Review 11:Paid extra for a room in the old part of the "palace" and wasgiven a room on the bottom floor (made this reservations 6 month prior)close to the reception. Room was a total disaster and resembled adungeon with 2x2 foot window that looked out at a wall. Apparently thereason for the great room was a wedding that took place that evening.Complained and was given a room at the newer section of the place, whichwas ok. They tried to give us a suite for the next night that was nice, but again you looked at roof. In the end I would not recommend thisplace to anyone! More interested in servicing big weddings thancustomers that made reservations way in advance.

Review 12:Nice public rooms on the first floor and beautiful breakfast/dinnerroom. The rest you can forget

Review 13:Lack of hotel staff (restaurant and bar); the room furniture and decoration (in the new building rooms are quite unpersonal, the carpet is not clean, the furniture is quite cheap and already damaged...); no information in the room about the restaurant and what to see in the region.

Review 14:The view from the hotel terraces, the restaurant, the old building, the advices provided by the reception about what to visit and to do.

Review 15:It was all good apart from the dinner which I thought was poor value

Review 16:We loved the antique ness and the building, the friendly staff, the spaciousness of the hotel

Review 17:Friendly and professional staff. Had dinner there as well. Waiters gave good recommendations and food (fish dishes) & vinho verde were delicious. Breakfast buffet had everything you can think of. The property itself is really enjoyable: nice pool with great view, gardens and salons to relax and read. We had a really relax stay at the Palacio Da Lousa. Great value for money!

Review 18:Odd enough we found new sculptures made of cement and plastic in the gardens and next to the pool which are totally out of touch with the profile of the property

Review 19:The location and a feeling of closeness to nature and Serra da Lousã. The fine restoration of the building and it's decoration. The staff and food.

Review 20:Staff didn't appear happy or communicative. Food indifferent. A good buffet breakfast but dinner on first night a real let down so we ate out for the next 3 evenings.

Review 21:Very comfortable, Luxurious furnishings. Beautifully clean with good attention to detail.

Review 22:Breakfast. It's not at the same level of the hotel. Really bad eggs, not good coffee, not fresh juice. It was a typical breakfast but not good enough for this hotel.

Review 23:The huge upgrade of my room. Awesome surprise. Thank you so much!

Review 24:Very cold luft - no AC Although quite good, the breakfast buffet is far from the tables & only some guestes were ofered scrambled eggs.

Review 25:Location, nice old building (Wellington stayed there). Views from bedroom & breakfast area.

Review 26:Had a bit of bad luck with my first room, that had a noisy malfunctioning air conditioner. Problem solved when changed room.

Review 27:Great Location; Great Art Exhibitions throughout the hotel; Excellent food;

Review 28:The old part of the building lacks in soundproof doors (the doors are old and therefore theres is a gap between the floor and door). Poor breakfast. The building shows a bit of the past but its renewal should have had more attention to detail (the rooms are small and there are still some problems with water and heating for example)

Review 29:Lousã is a quiet place. Period. There isn't much to do there and the Hotel reflects it. The staff was very friendly and tried their best to overcome some small problems.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:Beautiful building, lovely decor, spacious and comfortable room, great views ( especially from the breakfast room), very good restaurant and helpful ( if sparse) staff. Well situated to explore the Serra Da Lousa, which an unspoilt gem. Charming little town and hotel is right in the centre.

Review 32:A handrail on the stairs leading to the upper floor would be good, and in keeping with the appearance of the entry

Review 33:The location, the excellent state of the buildings and the efficiency and helpfulness of the staff

Review 34:Bed was very uncomfortable Dinner was overpriced for the quality. Hotel needs painting, new carpet and fires in the evening would have been wonderful

Review 35:Staff we're very helpful and courteous.

Review 36:Our room was at street level which was a bit annoying. TV was a bit old with constant interference from other electrical devices. No wifi in rooms.

Review 37:Room was clean and spacious, comfortable, nice deep bath. Restaurant was excellent, especially buffet breakfast. Nice decent size swimming pool.

Review 38:Rooms in new wing were very small so we booked a family room for an extra room, otherwise no way to open two suitcases! The restaurant was relatively average for the price and disappointing considering the setting. Breakfast was quite nice, but no freshly brewed coffee.

Review 39:Beautifully appointed common rooms and pool area.

Review 40:The restaurant was a complete letdown! We ordered a smoked salmon salad and it arrived with no salmon. We were informed the kitchen had no smoked salmon left but could have tuna but this was after all he meals had arrived. We were not charged for the salmon salad but for a regular salad. Watch out for the cover charge if you eat the bread/butter and olives there is a charge per person applied to the bill! We ate in the closest town on the second night and had a lovely dinner. Breakfast at the hotel was fine though!

Review 41:The View!

Review 42:Access to the swimming pool and car park is a bit of a chore - the car park is somewhat distant from the hotel's reception.

Review 43:The old building is lovely decorated and the living and dining rooms are gorgeous to look at. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff is cordial and very friendly. 10/10 would stay again

Review 44:- the location, the swimming pool, the rooms (we had 2 rooms with a door in the middle for the children but it was great that we had 2 separate bathrooms), the luxury, and the really fantastic breakfast!!!!

Review 45:We did not liked only two things: - few deck chairs at the pool (for the middle of the morning there were not enough chairs, even at the garden). - few ash trays spreaded through the garden.

Review 46:The hotel is very comfortable, the staff is very nice and the breakfast is outstanding. The lunch menu at the restaurant is very nice at a fair price.

Review 47:You must come by car. There's not much to see in the village itself. Don't eat dinner in the hotel, it's horrible. Breakfast was rudimental.

Review 48:coimbra is a beautiful university city to visit nearby. The rooms were pretty. There was a door to link the two neighbouring rooms, ideal when you have young or even older children...

Review 49:Proximity to Coimbra (half an hour's drive), taking a dip in the pool in the afternoon sun. Comparatively big room with additional private living room. The public rooms in the palacio are also very nice and can be used to do work, play a game, have a cosy talk&drink etc.

Review 50:Amazing food at the restaurant. Fantastic service and nice open fire place in a shared reception room.

Review 51:A little out of the way but worth the trip

Review 52:Great restaurant and good drinks range Manager very helpful in sourcing a hotel for us in Lisbon

Review 53:Hotel situated in a lovely area of Lousà. Clean, comfortable and staff friendly and helpful.

Review 54:Hotel, Breakfast, Views

Review 55:the whole experience

Review 56:Everything!

Review 57:No wi fi in the bedroom. Too many steps to the pool.

Review 58:The staff were excellent. The breakfast was very good.

Review 59:Everything was excellent

Review 60:Good breakfast with champagne, swimming pool outside, historical values

Review 61:No Wi-fi in the bedrooms.

Review 62:A beautiful hotel in a good central location. Friendly staff and good food.

Review 63:Staff are great and always willing to assist

Review 64:Facilities confort, location, food, environement

Review 65:Staff were generaly really helpful but the breakfast waiter could have been more cheerful

Review 66:Love the ambience of the hotel and the history of the place

Review 67:The room booked at the last minute was on the street on the ground floor so it was a bit noisy

Review 68:Pool and sundeck! Breakfast room Lounge area with WIFI The view of the mountains Quiet Easy free parking

Review 69:Internet is very bad. Needs better connection.

Review 70:History associated to it.

Review 71:Very romantic place.....

Review 72:nothing

Review 73:swimming pool excellent breakfasts stunning views beautiful painted dining room historic surroundings in town centre helpful staff

Review 74:The combination of a beautiful building, a touch of luxury and a very relaxed atmosphere. The swimming pool was the icing on the cake.

Review 75:The room was adequate, but rather small perhaps not what we might have expected given the price.

Review 76:Staff were welcoming. Public areas - the pool, the gardens, the breakfast room - were very attractive, and the breakfast itself was good. The old building itself is beautiful and of historic interest.

Review 77:Nothing. ...would go back again to stay

Review 78:Staff were all very helpful. Hotel is bike friendly allowing us to shower after our cycle race even though we cbecked out.

Review 79:The location not as beautiful as I had imagined. The hotel overlooks a series of modern buildings on the outskirts of the town. The beds had blankets and not proper down duvets and in the winter that felt a bit light to me.

Review 80:The food was spectacular! The wine and drinks amazing, so was the sommelier/bartender.

Review 81:There were just a couple of small points. For instance there was no welcome pack in the room, we had to ring to ask for the breakfasts times. There was no wifi in the room although advertised. We were on a business trip therefore wifi was important. When we rang reception we were told we could come down and get a lead to plug into the router. The bathroom was very dark and toiletries were supplied on the shower wall which was difficult to reach in the bath.

Review 82:We stayed at this hotel for 1 night travelling through Portugal. The hotel building was beautiful. We stayed in the new wing which was nice too. Breakfast was good with fresh pastries, cheeses, variety of breads, yoghurts etc. All in all a pleasant stay.

Review 83:Please, the internet connection is sooo slooow. Also the rich history of the Hotel is "hidden", more information could be avilable

Review 84:I liked the location, the Aldeias do Xisto Trail, the food and the historical charm of this Hotel, that received Wellington and Massena in the Past.A real 4 stars with a 5stars view to the mountains

Review 85:We were actually just paaing through, but the hotel was so nice that we decided tostay a bit longer. Excellent value for money, beautiful, comfortable room. The staff were very friendly, giving us tips and info on the area and suggesting things to do. Lovely swimming pool and gardens.

Review 86:In order to get to a new wing you should pass the long corridor of the old building and I was very happy I did not stay in the rooms along these corridors, because the people inside these rooms should have heard all the steps of all the people who are staing in new wing.

Review 87:We were staying at a new wing in the last room at the upper floor. Very nice room, clean, silent and with a view for a mountains and yard. Friendly staff.

Review 88:The room had 2 Individual beds. The differences between the palace and new wing are definitively not worth the price. Way too expensive for the room / quality of service / location. Don't recommend it

Review 89:Clean well decorated rooms

Review 90:The internet access is quite complicated,, with usernames and passwords that change every day, and wi-fi works only in the lobby or living room on the second floor. Service at restaurant could be improved. Food at the restaurant is not that good, despite the apparently nice choices at the menu. I stayed at the new aile, but noticed that some rooms at the palace itself were smaller than mine (but costed more). Staff helps with luggage only if you ask them to. But these are little things in a worth-the-stay beautiful and not expensive hotel.

Review 91:Very spacious and comfortable rooms and bathrooms, with nice amenities. Friendly and helpful staff. Very complete and tasteful breakfast. Beautifully restored palace, plenty of history and charm. Very well decorated and cosy, including the common living rooms. Free wi-fi. Free parking. A delicious swimming pool, a wonderful garden to relax, open air bar and view to the mountains. A good option to stay if you are by car and will visit places like Coimbra ( just 30 min drive). Excellent value for money!

Review 92:In August - high season and high temperatures, there was no bar available for guest to be outside in the evening to take a drink after dinner. The bar outside was only open in the afternoon. The hotel should take advantage of the nice weather and warm nights.

Review 93:Swimming Pool with an excellent solar orientation

Review 94:The hotel is in great need of some renovation. It bills itself as a "boutique hotel", but it is quite tired and musty. That said, the rooms themselves are spacious, as are the communal areas. The hotel has great potential, though its location is not the most convenient for tourist sights in the area, except for those in the Serra da Lousa.

Review 95:Spacious room with floor-to-ceiling windows that opened, sweet staff, free off-street parking. Nice pool and glass-walled bar and breakfast area.

Review 96:The main part of the hotel is quite exquisite, but the annex of the newpart is on the shabby side and not a four star. It is very awkward andalong way of corridors to get to the main house and especially to theparking. There was nobody to help with the luggage. We had to ask for anelectric kettle which was readily supplied

Review 97:Lovely old manor house with many antiques. Lots of green space around.Nice view. Excellent location Great pool, but no facilities likebathrobes or change rooms as far as we could tell

Review 98:The restaurant had very good and affordable food.

Review 99:The staff. They were amazing. It was my birthday and they give me a bottle of champagne.

Review 100:swimingpol,fantastic room,breakfas

Review 101:Excellent food and wine. The sommelier picked just the right wine to our food.

Review 102:Breakfast a bit poor for the price and star rate of the hotel

Review 103:Room was spacious

Review 104:The expensive meal (dinner) at Mélia.

Review 105:Very friendly staff. Good breakfast buffet. Location of the hotel.

Review 106:we did not like the swimmingpool.

Review 107:we liked the diner in the restaurant.

Review 108:The hotel restaurant is too expensive.

Review 109:Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, nice views

Review 110:the cleanless of the rug

Review 111:It's a fair hotel with a nice location and a nice palace.

Review 112:Beautiful place, in a small village in a very beautiful mountain side! The hotel was comfortable, clean with a 5 star resturant!
