Reviews for Zululand Safari Lodge

Review 1:No wi-fi in the room Distance between breakfast and room (had to take car) We didn't find the room easily as nobody was here to welcome us, or no sign available Expensive dinner buffet R225 pp (but surely qualitative)

Review 2:Excellent Comfort of the bed Decoration of the room and bathroom with flowers Big nice pool Qualitative Breakfast buffet Dark in the room (good to sleep!) Animals out of the window!

Review 3:Zululand Safari lodge is located close to the many attractions in the surrounding area. The self catering facilities are more than adequate for a longer than a couple of days stay. The restaurant also serves tasty meals and the staff were very friendly and polite. Loved seeing wild animals right outside our chalet. Would definitely go back there and use it as a base to explore the surrounding attractions.

Review 4:1. the food was over priced , 2.This is my suggestion ,maybe they should have TV in other rooms , make it as option if people want it 3.Definelty a Spar massage , its urgently needed there .

Review 5:The staff were very helpful , and the place was amazing ,I would definetly recommed to my friends

Review 6:The food in the restaurant was horrible. Definitely not worth the R225 per head!! Was looking forward to a future stay in the tree lodge but with food like that will definitely give it a miss!

Review 7:Location

Review 8:The freeway noise was a little distracting for such a lovely environment. The pathways right by other cottages could effect the privacy of others.

Review 9:The restaurant was excellent and the food high quality. Seeing some animals near our cottage was a real treat.

Review 10:Loads of tiny insects. Something you should expect being out in the veld.

Review 11:Location to the main game park is great, just 15mins away. Plenty wildlife to see at the accommodation too.

Review 12:You must have a small shop or at least stock sanitary towels. We had a situation while we were there

Review 13:Compliments to the chefs. Food was to die for. Everybody was friendly I'd like to visit again

Review 14:The drought put this beautiful place in a not so good situation. We hope that very soon there will be relieve.

Review 15:I think before the drought it was a beautiful place. I assume it was green and lovely.

Review 16:Smell of thatch roof, the town of hluhluwe has no restaurants and dinner at accommodation is expensive and not that great.

Review 17:Location near hluhluwe gate. Clean.

Review 18:We arrived and it was 39 degrees. Soon after arrival our electricity was cut due to maintenance. We were assured that it would be for only 20 minutes. two hours later it was still off and no one even seemed to care.

Review 19:The animals coming to the watering hole outside our room.

Review 20:At safari lodge you feel very isolated, they have no entertainment here whatsoever except a lovely big pool, there is only a jungle gym it would be nice to have a pool table a bar and something like a table tennis as well as a lawn chess set for teenagers. The food is very little variety for what you pay for and is often over cooked. It is inconvenient with kids to have dinner and breakfasts at Tree lodge when you stay at safari lodge because you have to drive to and fro. There is also no dinners in the boma as what they used to have before. You do not see any staff or office open at safari lodge and this is a bit inconvenient as you can not request help when needed. Attention need to be paid to the way it is set up.

Review 21:The animals come right into the safari lodge grounds it is quiet and lovely to relax. The rooms are lovely and spacious and the family rooms are perfect for a family of four, it has a lovely veranda and kitchen with microwave fridge toaster kettle and 2 plate little stove and oven.

Review 22:Floors in lodge were dirty. Not enough braai facilities for a full house of guests. Food at lodge was nice but way over priced. Game drive from lodge was double price the same drive from within Hluhluwe camp and the drive to and from Hluhluwe was not great and time consuming which we ended up paying for as well.

Review 23:Staff were fantastic. Game was great. Beautiful setting.

Review 24:It wasn't a bad experience but we would have preferred a double bed as opposed to the 2 twins pushed together

Review 25:Loved how clean the rooms were and the staff were vere professional and friendly. Would really recommend this.

Review 26:The service by the staff at Zululand Safari Lodge was excellent. We were greeted at our car, our check in was quick and someone helped us carry out bags to our accomadation. There was even someone to turn down our beds and put a chocolate on our pillows (something I've never seen done for self catering guests). The friendly staff really made our stay so special and enjoyable. We will definitely be going back.

Review 27:The lack of management presence at meal times and other times This would have rounded off the stay. Small point but we thought it important.

Review 28:We actually upgraded ourselves to the tree lodge It was more authentic African, more of a safari lodge The staff looked after us very well

Review 29:We stayed at the safari lodge, a short walk from the treetop lodge and main building. Nice cottages with fully equiped kitchen, quiet and charming, set in a large area with lots of animals around. Friendly staff, good food, close to the hluhluwe park. Great place!

Review 30:Some of the rooms at Safari lodge face the walkway which limits privacy and obstructs scenic viewing.

Review 31:Friendly staff and reception. Rustic family rooms and play area for kids.

Review 32:The breakfast at R150.00 per person was a joke. I am prepared to pay for good food but this was ridiculous. We were offered some fruit and cereals and that was it. We then decided not to make use of your kitchen again. A total ripoff.

Review 33:We asked for water as there was a notice stating that we shouldn't drink the water - and you refused to even give us a small bottle of water?????

Review 34:The staff helped change my husband's flat tyre - thank you very helpful :)

Review 35:A group of visitors had about 15 young kids who seemed to be out of control riding their bikes in and out of the rondavels and screaming. Not the facility's fault I suppose. Also, the price of the buffet at R225 was a little overpriced for what was on offer (don't call beef pie venison pie!)

Review 36:Very comfortable. Friendly staff. Lovely accommodation. Convenient to parks.

Review 37:The braai facilities at Safari Lodge were a long way from our room so there was no 'friendly atmosphere' around the fire with drinks and chatter etc. It was a real 'mission' to barbeque!! Went to ree Lodge for meals instead!!

Review 38:The atmosphere at Safari Lodge was 'dead' but the vibe' at Tree Lodge more than made up for it. All the focus of the hotels is on the one Lodge. Should have booked at Tree Lodge in the first place!!

Review 39:The accommodation was perfect, staff was helpful and friendly. They have baked a birthday cake for my husband what a nice treat. The Lodge manager made you feel welcome the second you have put your foot out of your car. Over all nothing we didn't like.

Review 40:Pool was dirty. Two minutes drive from our house to reception and restaurant. Walk from parking place to our house in darkness (no lights).

Review 41:The nature on the park, safety very good, friendly staff, beautifull animals nearby the houses and the restaurant, funny monkeys, birds, zebrahs, a lot of impala's en more. In a good fence are crocodiles. Good food in restaurant.

Review 42:Expensive 2 hours game drive (R375). Hill Top for 3 hours in the game reserve (R300). Sundowners very expensive and for this price should be free. Buffet dinner not good value for money with only two main courses (lamb and pork). Should have an ala carte menu.

Review 43:Friendly staff. Lovely bedroom.

Review 44:There was only one option for Supper a Buffet table with a set price. The food was great but if you only want a sandwich???

Review 45:I liked having a kitchen with fridge and microwave in my room

Review 46:Enjoyed drive in Ubizane Reserve. Hamilton is an excellent guide. Pity we did not see giraffe or the rhino. Ubizane Game Drive:The stop with snacks and drinks is a great idea. Just a comment - not criticism - if the drinks (maybe only beer or cool drinks) were included in the cover charge of the drive this would be a well received welcome gesture.(limited one per person)

Review 47:Safari lodge accommodation very comfortable, spacious set in such tranquil surroundings only 10 minute drive to Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Staff and service excellent. I liked the African animal story on the bed at bedtime! The croc pool in front of the restaurant at the Tree House is unusual & we enjoyed being able to watch their behaviour! The fever trees in your reserve are beautiful!

Review 48:Dinning crockery was not very neat. The main swimming pool also was not very hygienic.

Review 49:The service was excellent. The tranquility exceeded expectations. The rooms were spacious and clean. You may want to consider installing televions. The dinning crockery needs replacement and was not very neat.

Review 50:The afternoon game drive was overpriced (plus had to pay for cooldrinks) and was rather dissappointing.

Review 51:Location to the Hluhluwe/imfolozi Reserve. The evening meal was good value for money.

Review 52:Your directions to the hotel were not very good at all ,we nearly ended up at the Swazi boarder !

Review 53:Great location , very comfy chalets and the food was excellent.

Review 54:parking area to far from chalet; rooms need proper cleaning; shower area needed proper cleaning

Review 55:central location; easy access to main routes. Self catering facilities; cosy & comfortable

Review 56:no bath in unit. no alternative to rather expensive buffet supper travel to Tree Lodge for meals etc

Review 57:good accomodation at reasonable price. clean well furnished unit

Review 58:We went there for game drives through Umfolozi. The first night we were told that we were the only two people, they needed five. Upon arriving the next morning for breakfast, the game drive vehicle stopped at the lodge with only 3 people! Having to drive to Tree Lodge whilst staying at Safari for all meals and everything else, is a no go. Not being alowed to self drive through the reserve, is disappointing. We wont go again. We left Saturday morning but paid till Sunday.

Review 59:Friendlyness of staff

Review 60:We loved everything:)

Review 61:5 minutes away from the game reserve. Friendliness of staff. Welcoming drinks. Information provided. Excellent restaurant facilities.

Review 62:N/A

Review 63:relaxing,peacful,close to all activities

Review 64:Don't leave the light on... A lot of insects at night

Review 65:The food was really good! Complement to the chef! Love the outside douche!

Review 66:The rate of meals looks like it is too high.

Review 67:The whole set up

Review 68:House keeping was poor, And restrictions on water usage

Review 69:We were very impressed with the staff and service! We would highly recommend this accommodation provider to our visitors!

Review 70:Decent but not excellent

Review 71:No complaints

Review 72:Staff were excellent and helpful. Nice and quiet to relax even thou the lodge was full. Outside shower was fantastic.

Review 73:packages that excude breakfast

Review 74:tv in the rooms

Review 75:Bathroom substandard

Review 76:The wildlife around the lodges

Review 77:The car parking is too far away. To carry everything so far was not so pleasant.

Review 78:Warm welcome, friendly and kind !

Review 79:The self catering with the restaurant when needed. The wild animals walking amongst the chalets was such a treat!

Review 80:kudu, zebra and giraffes in the garden of your chalet: marvelous !

Review 81:The so called carvery for dinner was a disgrace. At R225.00 per head SHOCKING.

Review 82:No bad experience. Just didn't find the actual situation ver pleasant

Review 83:Tastefully decorated. Staff ver pleasant .

Review 84:No red wine in resturant

Review 85:Pool was not maintained. No fire or outdoor dining as advertised.

Review 86:staff very helpful. Location is great.

Review 87:no problems

Review 88:The location and being in a game reserve

Review 89:the quiet and peaceful atmosphere

Review 90:We really enjoyed our stay but thought the buffet a bit disappointing

Review 91:thank you for the champagne for our weddign annivsary

Review 92:missed breakfast due to long morning game drive, inspite of phoning advising the lodge - This created serious havoc with kids,

Review 93:accomodation

Review 94:my wife dont like hearing the sounding of animals but I like it

Review 95:sound of birds and other animals

Review 96:no plug in sink so difficult to wash dishes also can opener was cheap and inoperable. AIR CON USELESS

Review 97:clean, friendly

Review 98:animals come right by the room. Clean, neat, relaxing, child friendly

Review 99:Everything was fine

Review 100:the leg on my bed broke, but it wasn't the end of the world!

Review 101:Location, accommodation

Review 102:Nothing

Review 103:Loved the accomodation and the location. Would live to go back. Highly recommend a visit. It's almost like paradise!

Review 104:The buffet dinner was overpriced and the food average. e.g. there was no fish at all.

Review 105:No pool shower

Review 106:Great staff

Review 107:staff hospitality was exceptional; dinner buffet; location and setting

Review 108:Animals on the estate.

Review 109:Not having a tv in my room

Review 110:Evrythng

Review 111:Smiling, helpfull, profesional staff Quiet bush experience wildlife on your doorstep close to big five park

Review 112:Buffet at Tree Lodge was expensive

Review 113:Clean. Neat. Perfect for a bush experience with young kids.

Review 114:Only the fact that reception kept phoning to see if we were having breakfast or dinner in the dinning room although I had told them we were not eating there. Could have something different on the Hotel TV other than Rugby ! Would have liked TV in the rooms even if a few channels.

Review 115:We liked the Safari units with the self-catering facilities. We see that they had been re-furbished - as it is an old camp. Enjoyed the animals wondering through each day.

Review 116:The accommodation was amazing, the food, the staff and the overall facilities were absolutely exquisite and pristine. We are in fact planning our wedding there we fell in love with it.

Review 117:The size of the huts were a bit small

Review 118:I liked the solitude of the place and the wild animals surrounding the lodge. There was also enough privacy and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 119:All stuff was very kind and made our stay very special. I difinitely recommend this lodge. The facility itself is also wonderful, very clean, nice designed lodge. The most important thing is, when we entered in the lodge, some animals also welcomed us.

Review 120:The fact that we could not walk around their game park when all their animals were non predatory and visited us at our accommodation.

Review 121:Room was comfortable and quiet. close proximity to Hluhluwe Imfolezi game reserve,

Review 122:Currently renovating the lounge / tv area so couldn't use it properly.

Review 123:Precious on reception was very helpful and prompt with emails prior to visiting. Location was excellent, close to Hluhluwe game reserve. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Room was clean, comfy and decorated nicely. Game drive organised by them was competitively priced, informative and enjoyable. The evening buffet was delicious.

Review 124:The location so clise to the big game park. Within the reserve zebras, nyalas and impalas around the houses. Very private. Excellent self catering facilities.

Review 125:Service was not great, we were mostly ignored and had to ask for assistance. We booked a safari tour, but the driver did not pitch up. Eventually we departed 2 hours late (this was very disappointing). We had Breakfast and Dinner - both occasions, staff and chef were very unfriendly, not even a smile. Food was OK, but very basic.

Review 126:Room was outstanding for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Wildlife outside our door every morning and evening. Checkin and Checkout was quick and easy.
