Reviews for Opera House Hotel
Review 1:I had very poor cell phone reception in my room. I was assigned a room in the back. There was a wall and small alley way.
Review 2:The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Review 3:Truly obnoxious noise from other guests in their rooms and the consistent banging of dropped weights from the Gym below really made me think twice about my reservation at this hotel.
Review 4:Comfortable Bed. Luxurious room with well appointed interior.
Review 5:Didn't like the fact that is not a 24 hour check in like it said online
Review 6:Like how clean and welcoming the hotel was. Like the location of it. It's right next to the train station.
Review 7:Neighborhood still in development. Had to pay extra for WiFi.
Review 8:The facility is beautifully designed and appointed. Highest standards in decor, bedding and other amenities. Train station nearby.
Review 9:Staying on a renovated opera house, on a well-maintained hotel is a cool concept. We loved all the art work and posters depicting the opera house at its prime
Review 10:The noisy heating unit. It woke me up each time it turned on.
Review 11:I loved the decor and furnishings, the easy, 24 hour check in. The room was a great size and the bed was very comfortable.
Review 12:Bronx is still dangerous in night time. I can not enjoy walk around hotel.
Review 13:Location is very good. 2 minutes from subway station. Easy move to down town.
Review 14:That we didn't know of this hotel and stayed in Manhattan for double the price of this hotel. The room at this hotel are better.
Review 15:This hotel is more than what we expected. Great location to public transportation. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The breakfast included was good and fresh. Highly recommended.
Review 16:The fire alarm went off at @6:30 a.m., but tht as a fluke. The neighborhood was somewhat dicey.
Review 17:Convenience to city center, very friendly staff. The proximity to the subway was good.
Review 18:Plastic cutlery, plates etc and no free wifi!
Review 19:Loved it! Very helpful staff, Duke on reception especially. An excellent standard of accommodation and interesting history to the building. Mexican restaurant next door is a must! Margarita makes the best Margaritas! The Bronx residents were friendly and the tube ride into the centre not so bad just make sure you get off at the right stop! NOT 149 and Concourse like we did!
Review 20:Nothing
Review 21:Everything. Only drawback. Free continental breakfast doesn't start until 7am. I needed it a 6am. This is a 5 star place given it location. Definite recommendation!!!!
Review 22:The location was in an area (the Bronx) which made us feel a bit unsafe until inside the hotel. We ordered food delivered to our room because we did not want to walk around outside.
Review 23:The parking lot was within a security gate. The hotel was beautiful inside. The lobby, room, and breakfast area totally updated. The staff was extremely helpful. I left a jacket and they found and shipped it to me.
Review 24:The location is bad. I could not possibly recommend staying here to anyone, especially if they would be taking the subways. It is actually a very scary neighborhood.
Review 25:A very well done remodel
Review 26:The hotel is in a beautifully restored historic building, and the rooms are generously proportioned and very comfortable. There is even a limited number of secure, covered parking spaces at no extra charge. The staff was friendly, helpful, accessible, and service-oriented from the first moment. Thanks especially to Herman and Duke! The subway is only a block away. I felt safe exploring the area and visiting vibrant neighborhood markets.
Review 27:The room was stylishly spacious and gracious - beautiful bed linens, ample fluffy towels in the immaculate modern bathroom, big flatscreen TV. Wonderful to have breakfast included every morning and the ability to go at any time of the day or night for a coffee, tea, hot chocolate and snack at the little canteen.Staff were amazing and really went the distance. Location a bit sketchy but I did feel safe as long as I didn't stay out into the wee hours. Lovely and charming Tacquiera right next door where I had a deliciously authentic Hispanic meal at a bargain price.
Review 28:I grew up 6 blocks from this hotel and it was convenient for me to visit my family. It is close to transportation and is very clean. Continental breakfast area was very nice also.
Review 29:A very small complaint: squeaky bathroom door.
Review 30:(Unexpected) Spaciousness of the room - Rm.320 No cigarette smell throughout hotel! Lovely towels, bathroom functional and elegant. Overall cleanliness and tidy furnishings and décor. Elevators, A/C efficient and quiet. Everything: hairdryer, iron/board, TV, shower/faucets/toilet worked flawlessly. Breakfast while abundant, could expand on the fruit offerings (bananas + apples only).
Review 31:I only have 2 gripes. The pillows were far too soft and there are no Laundry facilities on site.
Review 32:The super friendly staff. The hotel is beautiful. Upkeep is A1. Location is eat to get downtown via Subway. The beds are very comfortable.
Review 33:Parking was separate and the streets were a mess with construction, but that's not the hotel's fault.
Review 34:Hotel staff was extremely helpful, polite, and professional. The hotel was very clean and we'll maintained. We had a very pleasant stay and will look to return next year.
Review 35:That they had no free wifi. You could get like 98 minutes free. But I felt for the price we were paying wifi should be free.
Review 36:The hotel is in the Brox. The area was good for me because I have stayed in the Bronx before. I like the subway was right up the street and a bus line ran across the street.
Review 37:In a rough neighbourhood. We stayed here for the baseball game at the Yankee stadium and didn't feel safe walking the streets.
Review 38:Extremely comfortable bed. Lovely room facilities. Good continetal style breakfast
Review 39:Loud air conditioning; uncomfortable bed and pillows; very expensive charge for Wi-Fi ($8 US per day!) - this was very inconvenient as a traveller in New York which is a massive city with so much to do and no way of accessing the internet to plan your day
Review 40:Proximity to subway; staff were helpful; includes breakfast; good value for money
Review 41:The air conditioning unit is extremely loud when it goes on and off. I was woken up every 20-30 minutes when it came on. Room temperature was not consistent.
Review 42:Staff was very friendly! Was close to subway and Yankee stadium.
Review 43:The neighborhood is S. Bronx. Not too nice. I was surprised at how great this hotel was considering the neighborhood seems like a ghetto.
Review 44:The hotel is gorgeous and the bedroom was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful, professional.
Review 45:A kettle and some sachet tea bags and sugar would save a lot of stress going down all d time to get hot water etc
Review 46:The neatness of this hotel is fab,i also love the closeness to 3rd avenue where u can do alot og shopping, General its a fab hotel, will def. recommend it.
Review 47:Neat hotel. However extremely noisy air-conditioning. And no laundry facilities in the hotel. The day we left after staying for 11 days, the floor manager, didn't even thank us for staying so long or ask about the stay etc.
Review 48:The hotel was awesome, however it's in the Bronx so you can't really walk around. We just took Uber to where we needed to go.
Review 49:Free breakfast was awesome and the hotel was super clean and modern looking.
Review 50:There are literally 4 parking spaces (2 of which are handicapped accessible parking.)
Review 51:The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was a nice size and quite clean.
Review 53:This part of Bronx is not scary and dangerous, but much different than Manhattan. Atmosphere and faces are like you are at the other continent... and it's so interesting! WiFi is paid, but you can connect for free (it lasts about 2 minutes, on and on :-P )
Review 54:Elegant place. Better option than hotels in Downtown for the same price. Close to subway (a little bit disappointing schedule), free access to gym next door to hotel (open all day long).
Review 55:Nothing.
Review 56:The staff was so nice. Hotel was beautiful and clean. Shopping strip on 3rd Ave and subway right outside hotel door, great location and great price.
Review 57:The view was lacking - but it was the only bad part.
Review 58:This was a really nice place. Staff was great - room was small butenough for what we needed. Highly Recommended!!
Review 59:No hair dryer in room (but they sent one up), neighborhood is a little sketchy.
Review 60:High ceilings, immaculately cleaned, close to Yankee Stadium. Breakfast in the hotel was just right.
Review 61:Parking was an issue unless you had handicapped parking permit. The room lighting was poor. Poor water pressure. Had to pay $.50 per page to print in business center. No coffee maker in room.
Review 62:Good value. Close to subway. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 63:We loved everything. Only wish we would of stayed longer! We will be back!
Review 64:Loved EVERYTHING! Carlos was very pleasant at the front desk! Its beautiful clean & Comfortable! I give it 5stars! A must stay! The only place i will stay in the Bronx!
Review 65:Suggest that there may be staff member who can help overseas travellers on how to use the subway. The underground was great after 2-3 days of difficulties.
Review 66:It is delightful hotel on all counts.
Review 67:Parking was an issue with a very limited amount of spaces
Review 68:The room was spacious and very comfortable. Quite location with great access to Yankee Stadium.
Review 69:The king size bed was too short. The toilet kept making noise through out the night while I was trying to sleep
Review 70:The staff,I really liked the breakfast in the morning
Review 71:- woke up every morning at 05. 30 am because of the terrible noice in the gym next door, wich opens at 05 am
Review 72:- breakfast included - very comfortable bed - very clean
Review 73:nothing bad whatsoever
Review 74:a fantastic hotel in a quiet neighbourhood. I've been several times to NYC hotels, and in Manhattan you pay easily twice the amount for a lower quality and much noisier room. An additional plus is almost free parking around the corner (10$ per day); an authentic Mexican restaurant next door; very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 75:My room is at 4th floor, still I found it very noisy at night. Hard to find nice restaurants around the hotel. Free wifi not available!
Review 76:reasonably priced and include breakfast. Location very close to metro station.
Review 77:Breakfast was not too exciting, I personally did not like the coffee but I am from Europe and might have other standards....
Review 78:The room was fantastic: well equipped, new and very clean. They really did a nice job with the decoration with the opera house theme. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The Gym next door was also OK
Review 79:The location can be a challenge. Luckily we were able to use the limited parking. I was disappointed that I had to pay for wifi. I was also surprised that there was not a "blow dryer" provided. Two amenities provided by most hotels.
Review 80:This is my second stay at The Opera House. We love the facility, cleanliness, breakfast and service. The hotel is well maintained, and we were lucky to get a secured parking spot.
Review 81:Only reccomendation i would have is to have water included at breakfast along with the juice and hot drinks. Being able to have more than just hot drinks throughout the day would also a bonus.
Review 82:Good location near the metro, staff were very friendly especially Duke who made us feel very welcome and was full of information, we were sad to say good bye he definatly made our stay even better. The hotel is truely the diamond in the rough as the decor of the hotel is amazing at the price it is, the street its on isnt the nicest but dont be put off as the area is safe. If i returned to New York i would stay here without a doubt.
Review 83:Didn't like the fact we had to pay to park a block away and walk to hotel. Only had few spots to park in back of hotel. It was first come first serve basis.
Review 84:The bed was extremely comfortable. Wish we could have taken it home!
Review 85:The only thing I disagreed with was the paid wifi...
Review 86:Despite the location being in the middle of the shopping area in the Bronx, it was a nice quiet hotel that was away from the world... The bed felt amazing and so was the staff... The breakfast was greater than most hotels! Definitely coming back!!!
Review 87:Everything was good for the money we paid. However, it would be nicer if we could have hot breakfast served instead of cold one.
Review 88:Everything was just perfect about this hotel. Friendly receptionist, very clean and comfortable room. The hotel is just 2 min away from metro station and easy to reach downtown. The area looks a bit unsafe at night to walk around.
Review 89:I asked about parking- and was told where to park- upon driving to the gated "parking lot" I was told there was no space--- their parking fits 3 vehicles-- that's it. My driveway fits more. I was Very disappointed because they made it seem like there was ample parking- and this wasn't the case. I had to find parking on the street, which had me rather uncomfortable for the night I spent there. So beware, there's only 3 parking spaces, which were probably used by employees.
Review 90:Location. Cleanliness. Beautiful. Huge rooms for being NY.
Review 91:Very surprised this gem is in the middle of the gritty bronx. The hotel is very nice, new and extremely clean. wifi is $7.99 for 24 hours. The guys at the desk was very helpful and patient with me since I can be very high-maintenance at times. My only annoyance during this stay was that I could not dial out and thought the other line was busy. So I wanted to get some delivery from a Chinese restaurant and the front desk gave me a menu and informed me that they delivered... I called that number over 20 times and kept getting the busy signal. I finally called down to the front desk to be informed that they have to unlock my phine in order for me to use it... I was not happy... this could have been told to me during my check-in and more importantly when I asked for a menu of a restaurant that delivers. My room was on the side of the hotel so I did not hear any outside noise. The hotel is right off 149th st third avenue in the shopping area. There is a Chinese restaurant called New Wok around the corner that delivers and it is delish!! the menu the hotel suggested was not so good. No hair dryer in the bathroom. I will stay here everytime I visit the Bronx.
Review 92:I didn't like the fact that I had to park at a garage and walked back to the hotel in frigid temp with my 5 months old baby. I strongly believe that an exception should be made for people with handicapp and young babies.
Review 93:Breakfast was good, place was clean.
Review 94:The breakfast is fine, but not continental. Wifi is not included in the price, but I think that it can be negotiated with a smile.
Review 95:Everything. Large rooms, comfortable, silent and very clean. Free hot drinks at any time. The people at the desk was very kind and helpful. Yes it is in the Bronx, but honestly I did not feel unsafe at anytime, and they are many options to eat at cheap prices. It very well located close to a metro entrance, Manhattan is at 20 minutes. I found the quality/price ratio excellent. Will come again.
Review 96:Horrible service in some rooms
Review 97:Dean and Melissa are my favs this is my second time staying at this luxurious boutique hotel and anytime I stay in NYC this hotel is a prefers choice !
Review 98:The only Hotel I stay at whe I'm in NY! I was tthe first person to book there, before it even opened. I'm really happy, and never disappointed. And me favorite is Carlos!! And all off them are professional and friendly. Going back soon.
Review 99:Did not like the fact that the hotel is located right next to a gym. Too much noise early in the am if you are trying to sleep in.
Review 100:The comfort of the beds and the spacing in the rooms is great!!
Review 101:Had not one complaint ..thank u Free wifi and 500 tv stations.
Review 102:I loved everything pertaing once entered the opera houseto the spotless lobby elavator and room..able to use gym as well as snack center 24 hours a day. Most helpfull desk clerks. Nice and friendly vibes. Be sure to book room in advance. Everyone will enjoy there stay. Theres a need 4 opera house thru out nyc. Thank you in advance.
Review 103:This hotel cxl my room with out calling I was emailed the day of so I called to fix the problem and was told well there's no rooms now a lot of back and forth hotel doesn't except cash hotel is truly not worth all the hastle I went through to try and get my room
Review 104:The bed sheets did NOT have any stain or holes, but at the same time didn't look very clean. Probably been used for a long time. And I'm just saying because that was the only tiny issue I noticed, otherwise very nice place.
Review 105:Great place! Everything was exactly as you can expect from a nice hotel. Also, the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful :)
Review 106:There was nothing at all that I disliked.
Review 107:I loved everything about them. They were very helpful, polite, & great service. The rooms are huge and comfy and affordable.
Review 108:Didn't like the check because room deposit jumps from $50 $200. They should check their policy with the staff at the Opera!!! It has to be one policy not two or three on the deposit for the room!
Review 109:The room was comfortable and clean
Review 110:It was quite cold in NYC during our stay, so we kept the heat on. The fan kicked in all night long, and was incredibly loud. It wouldn't keep me from staying there again, but just something to note if you are a light sleeper (and maybe it was just our room).
Review 111:All of the staff were incredibly helpful (Duke's the best!). Suggested Yolanda's down the street for some Italian eats. It was a sold out/holiday weekend, but didn't feel cramped or overrun. Continental Breakfast was sufficient to start the day. Room was beautiful - 4th floor has amazingly high ceilings! Very easy access to the subway (2,5) a block-and-a-half away.
Review 112:Didn't like the fact you have to pay for wifi think in this day and age it should be free but also the last day there was no hot water.
Review 113:Loved the location, the price and the cleanliness.
Review 114:what was there not to like it was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review 115:Awesome place the staff was great the room was great and the price was great all around it was a great vacation.....
Review 116:I loved my stay. The staff was great. The room was very well kept and the bed was extremely comfortable. The fact that you can control the thermostat was great too. Will definitely stay here again.
Review 117:Clean, good service, very good value for your money. It's also close to the metro and a line that takes you straight downtown. Good breakfast too.
Review 118:Very reasonably priced, beautifully comfortable beds, courteous and helpful staff, good breakfast. Loved the cookies and hot drinks in the evening! Convenient to the subway for a quick trip into New York.
Review 119:Near around... Only I can Find... Good restaurant Mexicosina. Little poor around. I cannot walk very well especially after 5pm.
Review 120:Location perfect to close to the Subway....
Review 121:On one of my visits, I had to wait about 30 mins to check in due to a group of about 25 checking into this boutique hotel. That was annoying, but Michael (front desk agent) remained calm & professional the entire time. However, I wish he had another agent to assist him.
Review 122:Since my first visit, I've already gone back twice. I really like this hotel. I love the interior design. Customer service is superb...especially agent Michael. The rooms are decently sized, beds comfortable. Shower can get really hot (for those who loves hot showers in the winter). It's located in the "hood" but trains & highways are very close.
Review 123:It is a boutique hotel, so there is no restaurant or gym on site but there are a few restaurants nearby and a gym that is offered to guests next door.
Review 124:This is the only hotel I would stay at if I had to stay in the Bronx.
Review 125:illumination in bedroom is low, no laundry in the hotel, poor mobile network signal in the rooms, car parking although free, is too small and always full,
Review 126:the staff was amazingly, helpful and friendly, verygood house keeping, healthy delicious breakfast, cozy bedroom feels like home, with dressing area, safety locker, free hot drinks 24h/d, close to many restaurants I highly recommend it. will definitely return back.
Review 127:The cell reception in my hotel room wasn't great, so it would have been nice if the wifi was complimentary.
Review 128:The comfort level of the bed, cleanliness of the bathroom, and the friendliness of the staff
Review 129:WiFi was an additional charge. No parking facilities (I had a rental - made due w/ street meter parking, which was cheap: .25 cents per 15 min, 2hr max was $2).
Review 130:Facilities were excellent, especially for the price paid! Easy to get to from Manhattan, w/ good restaurants and "brand name banks" available in the area. The various staff members I met from front desk to house keeping, were all very friendly.
Review 131:Very conveniently located near the subway (2 and 5 trains). Clean, quiet, nice staff. It was nice that there was a fridge and microwave in the room too.
Review 132:Lack of Wifi reception unless you paid them for it. They blocked the wifi reception that you would normally get on your smartphone, iPad, laptops or other devices. That is double billing for what you already paid your carrier and provider.
Review 133:The cleaniless of the rooms, bed comfort, daily availability of snacks, the non-smoking policy and quietness of the rooms (no outside noises). A block away to a major public transportation hub
Review 134:Not great neighborhood but felt safe day and night.
Review 135:Good décor, very clean, quiet and great value for $. Spacious room and beautiful bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Only 1.5 minutes from the metro station.
Review 136:Location was a bit far from Manhattan. Be sure you know how to get back to the hotel late at night (the 4, transfer to the 2 and go one stop).
Review 137:Price, size of room, staff friendliness and responsiveness, the Bob Marley coffee machine. Cleanliness!!!!
