Reviews for Carlton Hotel
Review 1:Upon arriving at the hotel the general impression is that everything is small and tight. Our bedroom, although very clean, looked more like a two star hotel. The view out of the bedroom window was into a grim backyard and also into the windows of a neighboring building which is another hotel. Sound insulation from the other bedrooms within the same floor and mainly the corridor was non-existent and although we were given a non-smoking room there was an unpleasant smell of tobacco smoke which probably reached our bathroom through the ventilation system. This definitely ought to be improved. What probably gives this hotel its 3 star rating is the superb breakfast! The breakfast room again is small but very clean and the servings are ample and varied. Starting from a wide selection of breads and cereals, jams, cheeses and salames, there were also boiled and scrambled eggs available. The only fresh fruit available during our stay were apples and the juice was packed orange juice. Coffee was also very good and there was a selection of tea to choose from. The staff were extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. They even let us an umbrella on a rainy day! The hotel is very conveniently located near the main train station. Although the street of the hotel is nice and quiet a few streets in the vicinity were rather roudy with strip bars and cheap casinos. Nonetheless We walked everywhere and felt safe. On New Year's Eve everybody gets carried away with their own fireworks in the streets! I felt the situation got out of control and did not really feel one hundred percent safe, thinking that a rocket could blast too close... The hotel was good value for money and I would stay there again if I was on a similar budget.
Review 2:It just is well used and could use a face lift. It is clean and well run so we would stay there again.
Review 3:Convenient to main train station Several restaurants and a convenience store. It was friendly and helpful.Better fluffier towels this stay.
Review 4:Location is close to central train station and city centre, but this part of town is filled with junkies, homeless and shady looking persons. Red light district is just around the corner. The whole room inventory is really old and worn out. You could see this on carpets, curtains, furniture and in bathroom.
Review 5:The staff was nice and helpful and price for three nights was really good. Cleanliness was satisfying.
Review 6:There appeared to be some nightclub in the vicinity whose bass-heavy music made my windows vibrate during the night, robbing me of a good 3 hours of sleep. Request a room facing away from the main street if you value a good sleep and quietness.
Review 7:Very close to central main station, and combined with the price, this hotel is really unbeatable.
Review 8:It could benefit from new carpet and some better towels.
Review 9:The location if great. Train station close and several good places to eat. The staff is great. It is just a bit well used and could benefit from some redoing. I would like better quality towels. That being said, we will stay here again.
Review 10:WiFi is restricted, can't acess certain web pages Breakfast could be better, had a little incident there
Review 11:Location is excellent Stuff is very helping
Review 12:Rooms were very dated and cheaply furnished and carpet threadbare. Shower poor. Terribly strong smell of air-freshner. I paid a very high rate for the room because of the Book Fair when rates are inflated everywhere, so it therefore was extremely poor value for money.
Review 13:Friendly staff.
Review 14:Returning from the restaurant, two guys asked me in the street with a poor english if i can help to find a streaptease place and what they can find inthere. No ideas so i pass away
Review 15:Closeby the main station. Easy if you have to hurry up in the morning to catch a train at 6.30 am. A good italian restaurant 'the embassy' nearby the hotel for a nice dinner and not expensive. The staff member are willing to help you !
Review 16:The location is very convenient and close to almost everything, the neighborhood itself is filled with junkies and homeless people which is not nice to walk by at night.
Review 17:Very friendly staff, convenient location, perfect wifi connection
Review 18:Red light district.. There were so much noise in the evening from 8pm to 1am.. (Music and partying, clubs nearby) But if you have earplugs you can actually sleep quite well.
Review 19:The man in the reception was very nice. We liked the location just next to the central station! And the supermarket on the otherside of the road -perfect!
Review 20:Near railway station, supermarket and short walk to the old town area. Great value with adequate facilities. Terrific breakfast. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 21:Well lets start this long list of dissapointments. 1. We had not paid for the room it was one of those book now pay later things. 2. We get to the hotel and before so I had emailed the hotel to advise due to some unforseen circumstances we could not stay 3 nights and only two. 3. We were responded with "bad luck" you guys still have to pay or pay the cancellation and book again so double the fees. 4. I looked at her in disgust as she told me this and I said well I haven't paid so im sure it would be fine to change, her response again was to pay the amount. So I did and then I asked her for some things to do in the area and asked for a map she ripped off this paper map and said we are here and throws it in my face. I was just like wow ... this would have to be the worst. The room is tiny and they say its a lovely and safe area when it is not you have druggies everywhere that yell and follow you. Seriously... don't ever go there.
Review 22:To be honest I didn't like anything.
Review 23:I have stayed carlton hotel many times. Always breakfast included. Last time they asked extra money at check out. While booking it was not written extra money for breakfast
Review 24:Stuff was not good .
Review 25:The cleaners been cleaning at the next door at 7.00 am on Sunday. They been shouting and slamming the door.
Review 26:We've spent there couple of nights. The location is good, close to the main station, the receptionist was so helpful.
Review 27:Dusty room, the entire hotel would need to be renewed, there eas so much noise during the night coming from the street
Review 28:breakfast was ok and the staff polite. And it is really near to the main station
Review 29:We stayed for only one night here as we have an early flight the next morning. The place is totally worth the value, 200 meters from main train station. The bread fast is great.
Review 30:No safe box in the room, no AC, key holder is too big so you have to keep the keys at the reception every time you go out
Review 31:Location is so convenient as it is just 2 minutes walk from the central station. there are several bars and restaurants around so you can get whatever you want anytime. it is not the best hotel but very practical if you need the room just to take shower and sleep while staying close to everything.
Review 32:The hotel is not the newest, meaning that everything is pretty basic and and not very luxury (e.g. real keys instead of key cards for the doors). My room was pretty plain, without any pictures on the walls or other decoration.
Review 33:Good price, very central location right at the main train station, free wifi, good breakfast, clean.
Review 34:The rooms were very small. Carpet is not very clean. bed sheets were not really fresh. Breakfast spread was very very basic. At night, we had to wait a while for the main entrance to be opened for us. The man was unapolegetic and thought it was ok for two women to wait outside the door for so long. In short, My expectation of a 3 star hotel was not met.
Review 35:The staff at the front desk were extremely nice and helpful.
Review 36:We had to pay extra for breakfast even though they advertised that all rooms come with breakfast included. The area felt unsafe and not nice due to lots of suspicious people wandering the area but very convenient to the train station.Would not recommend young females staying by themselves.
Review 37:walking distance to the train station. Staff were pleasant.Breakfast was very good!
Review 38:In the seedier end of town but we had no issues at all.
Review 39:Nice to be welcomed and made to feel at home in the basic clean comfortable hotel. The breakfast was delicious.
Review 40:As with all the hotels near the main railway station, there is noise at night.
Review 41:Good value for my four night stay. Very convenient for trams and trains, which I used every day. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 42:Historical building.
Review 43:Located near Bahn main station, good variety of buffet breakfast, friendly staff (Kim), Free WIFI, Clean room, Coffee making facility in room, mini bar in room, heater, fan, dryer.
Review 44:As a female solo traveller, location wasn't the best. It was nice that it was across from the main station but there were a lot of junkies around and the hotel is around the corner from strip clubs with more sketchy people. I was glad that I was a seasoned traveller.
Review 45:Price was right for a solo traveller on a budget. Staff was really kind.
Review 46:The WiFi is very unstable especially the last floor
Review 47:The staff is nice. They let me keep my luggage there while I backpack around Germany. They are quite helpful in giving u advice to travel in Frankfurt
Review 48:For our one night-stay here, we caught a cheaper price and were satisfied with everything here.
Review 49:-position of the hotel -friendly staff -cleanness of the room -good value for the money (if discounted)
Review 50:If in Frankfurt, I always stay in this hotel. Very close to the main train station, walking distance to the fairground and the city centre. Very big advantage of the hotel are helpful people at the reception!
Review 51:Room was designed for two with a bery small space. Second bed was just in the way.
Review 52:Friendly staff made my stay extremely pleasent. Rasoul on day shift and Shahpur at evenings were so friendly and always there to help with a smiling face. Carlton Hotel is very lucky to have them.
Review 53:Building is older.. bathroom door cannot be closed n doesn't have a electric kettle
Review 54:Just opposite Frankfurt central train station.. very convinent.. has small market around too, breakfast are good varieties n tasty
Review 55:1. Too bad / no sound isolation. Because of thin walls you can hear everything, what is going on outside of your room. Because of it, you can't have a good night's rest. It is always something going on there and you can really loudly hear it... (i.e. elevator just reached your floor, somebody leaves his room or even your neighbor is talking loudly...) 2. Credit card was not accepted at the check-in (the terminal didn't work), so I had to pay by cash...
Review 56:Friendly personal, good price, good location from which you can reach a lot of places by foot.
Review 57:Bathroom is tiny. Felt cold at night. Curtains in my room could not cover the whole window, which made street light shed into the room.
Review 58:I stayed with Carlton Hotel for one night. I arrived in the city by train, so it's convenient for me as the hotel is located close to Central station, about 5-10 min walk to the hotel. Bed was comfortable. You have choices at hotel buffet breakfast. Overall, it's value for money.
Review 59:* I do not understand why smoking is allowed in the hotel ? You can smoke outside the hotel. * Wi-fi is slow
Review 60:* Easy reachable from the train station. * Rare case where breakfast is included inside 50 EUR room price.
Review 61:Looks like they dont know the word maintenance and keeping up. Everything looks and feels like the 1950. No / bad painting job, Internet not working, rooms look bad, very noisy room at night and not updated. No / bad TV signal.
Review 62:Friendly staff. Helpful and nice. Location is pretty okay. Breakfast is okayisch.
Review 63:tired, smelly room in a bad part of town. The owner managed to charge us double for our room and not to reimburse the difference...its a fitting hotel for the red light district.
Review 64:near the railway station, but its also the red light district
Review 65:Double bed is made of two single beds, meaning you have a 'hole' in between. Walls should be painted or at least cleaned. Two streets further is not very nice neighborhood including red light district, but you can avoid it by going to the town from the other side. Isolation is not good since we couldn't sleep since ladies who were cleaning the rooms in the morning were very noisy.
Review 66:Location is good, 200m from main train station, and not far away form old town. There is a place to leave a luggage. Breakfast is very good! Decoration of room is simple and nice with lovely paintings. We got late check-out (until 12h) upon request.
Review 67:WI-FI not working properly
Review 68:Breakfast was fine, nothing existing. Location- near trains and metro but not safe due to lots of drunks and homeless people.Staff was helpful.
Review 69:cold scrambled eggs and coffee, could have been some fresh fruit cut up to have with the cereal.
Review 70:front desk man and Lady were extremely helpfül,frriendly and welcoming.
Review 71:The area around Hbf is not nice (brothels&junkies around), but this is not the fault of this hotel. The hotel is actually in a peaceful location and there were not any disturbances. Probably not for families though!
Review 72:The best value for money! Very friendly service, good location (near-by bus and train station, walking distance to the nicer parts of the city), excellent breakfast, REWE-supermarket across the street
Review 73:The street is very calm and near the Central station but also near the "red light district".
Review 74:The localization is great. There is a REWE store in the other side of the street. The relation room/price is also great. The breakfast is good. I will stay there more times if I need.
Review 75:WiFi needs to be improved!
Review 76:Many people have written that the location is dangerous, but guys you are in Germany! Although there are some sort of drunk guys around at night but I didn't feel any danger. The location is perfect in my opinion as it is side next to the main train station, you easily have access to go to the other locations you like. The room has sound-proof window that brings a comfort sleep and staff are very kind and friendly. This place is really value for money.
Review 77:Down pillows, horrible, your head sinks through to the mattress. Thoughwe found this all over Europe, not just this hotel.
Review 78:We flew into Frankfurt for a one-night stop-over on our way to Nurembergthe next day by train, so this hotel's location very near theHauptbahnhof was ideal. Hotel was clean, staff friendly, room a bitcozy, but all we needed. Also an easy walk to Altstadt, though somesketchy looking characters about if you wander off the main roads. Thatsaid, we never truly felt unsafe.
Review 79:The room was pretty small. Nothing was really up to date. Breakfast wasn't very good.. But you get what you pay for when you book a less expensive hotel
Review 80:The location is great, very close to the train station. WiFi was free and worked well. The price was very good. Its a fine place if you just need a place to crash for the night!
Review 81:some time WiFi is interrupted.
Review 82:location is convenient. quiet. staff is very helpful. there is a kitchen in the room so you can cook a meal. that is a big value.
Review 83:one street over there are groups of derelicts sleeping on sidewalks, tossing trash, filthy personal habits; this is a red light district. Would not recommend for families.
Review 84:close to main train station and other rail service - room adequate - staff helpful - has lift whereas many older buildings don't - reasonable rates
Review 85:Room could of been cleaner. The floor had dust on it like it hadn't been cleaned in a week, but in saying that the bed was clean which is most important. Also our room fronted the st which was noisy so when booking I suggest a room that does not front the street
Review 86:Convenient to Frankfurt station. Very helpful front desk. Comfortable bed
Review 87:Rooms are a little dated. Rates are expensive during trade show dates, however so are all the other hotels in Frankfurt during this period.
Review 88:Good location for messe and train station. Easy walk to the messe exhibition centre. Staff were very helpfull and polite. Close to interesting bars and restaurants..
Review 89:The room I was given was directly next to a fairly busy road so quite noisy. Annoyingly, the curtains did not stretch across the whole of the windows so light came through and woke me up early.
Review 90:I was stopping over in Frankfurt for 1 night and so Carlton hotel was ideal as it was right next to the main train station and not too expensive. The breakfast was reasonable and the staff polite and friendly.
Review 91:Nice and helpful staff in the reception, who will boil water for you. Wonderful breakfast is provided. Independent toilet and bathroom in my double room. Very clean and quiet. Supermarket is opposite to the hotel by walking 3 mins
Review 92:Not really a criticism of the hotel, more a thing to beware of that in the station area where the hotel is there are many drug addicts on the streets. They are in a bad state but seem mostly to leave non addicts alone.
Review 93:Well furnished comfortable room for the price. Room was quiet despite being at the front of the building. Friendly staff on the front desk. Close to the station.
Review 94:the room is really poor, not only the facilities but also the service. i was asked to pay the fee when i check-in. the breakfast is very poor as well. It is a big bad surprise. none of them are tasty.
Review 95:the location is really good, just besides the main train station, very convenient for the travellers
Review 96:Rooms on a small size, but for the price charged pretty adequate.
Review 97:Couldn't think for any more convenient location, 50 meters from underground and tramway, 3 min walk from Central Train Station. Staff at reception very pleasant and helpful.
Review 98:Guy in hotel reception had a print-out of my credit card details withname, number, date, cvv !! No air conditioning, had to use noisiy tableair fan and open window to sleep. Threatening looking junkies in theexists of central station, near the hotel.
Review 99:Location.
Review 100:Wifi not working. Bad smell in the elevator. Old furnished small room
Review 101:Very near to the main train and the bus station. Acceptable regarding value of money. Good breakfast regarding to 3-4 € price. I asked for smoking room and they gave room in the 5th floor. Clean bathroom.mini bar with cola , water and saled nuts. Helpful reception stuff. Good option for solo traveller for 1 or 2 nights.
Review 102:The room on the 5th floor was very small. It did not had an air conditioning. Only a fan. The room was always hot. The street is very busy and noisy. The doors of the shower was broken. Shampoo or conditioner or soap wasn't available in the room.
Review 103:The location was perfect. If you are a transit passenger like us, the hotel is in the right place. 2-3 minutes walk from the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 104:Too noisy (there was a loud bar/club just nearby). I spent two nights there and didn't manage too sleep a single minute.
Review 105:Just a few steps from Frankfurt HBF
Review 106:Excellent staff & management! We stayed almost a month and felt ourselves like at home! Very convenient location, close to rail station and public transport! Very good breakfast! Will definitely chose the same hotel for my next visits!
Review 107:No Ac. There was a fan in the room that made our stay manageable.
Review 108:The staff was very nice. The manager very friendly and accommodating. (Gave us a later checkout upon request and lent us an adapter) :)
Review 109:Our room was very small, but we we´re there just for one night, so it was ok.
Review 110:It is perfect, if you stay in Frankfurt just for one or two nights and then travel further, because the train station is really just across the street. Cheap and breakfast included.
Review 111:There are very few choices for dinner in the immediate area.
Review 112:For an over-night stay near the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof this is a good choice for a relatively low cost hotel. You can get there through the underpass from the train station. The room was small but comfortable and clean.
Review 113:This hotel is in bad need of renovation. The room and hallways smell like the bathroom. The bathroom didn't seem very clean with men's facial hair on the sink and a cockroach in the drain. With the worst part of the red light district around the corner, we didn't feel very safe walking home from the city center. The staff was very nice and the price was right at 50 euros, but I would only recommend a stay here if there is very little time spent in the actual room, like a layover before an early flight or something. We couldn't really understand how this hotel was rated with 3 stars... Maybe because the reception looks nice enough?
Review 114:The hotel is very close to the hbf, the personnel were very friendly, and the breakfast was surprisingly good.
Review 115:there is no air conditioner or fan. room is a bit crowded for two persons.
Review 116:the man at the reception desk is really nice. breakfast is good. the location is close to the train station, and there is a supermarket on the opposite side of the road. good price to quality ratio. enough plugs.
Review 117:Outside traffic was found to be a little bit noisy at night, so if possible ask for an inner room.
Review 118:Location is excellent. The owner is very friendly and always eager to help. Breakfast is good with a lot of variety. A good value for money.
Review 119:One of the staff members had some tiny difficulties understanding my German, but it wasn't much of a problem.
Review 120:Extremely good location (2 minute walk to central station), very friendly staff, comfortable and clean room, free breakfast.
Review 121:I didn't like the atmosphere of the area at ni
Review 122:Location. Close to the railway station and not far from the downtown
Review 123:Not so clean and Some may not like tiny room
Review 124:value for Money and Location is very close to Main Railway Station
Review 125:Nearby the central and chrismast market
Review 126:Bathroom needs renovation.
Review 127:Location is really excellent. Close to the city center and most attractions.
Review 128:Close to train station. Clean room. Good beds. Calm. Nice staff
Review 129:heating, noise, day time staff
Review 130:location, night time staff
Review 131:Simple but working, location
Review 132:near train railway and have 24 hours service, that is importtant to all travelers.
Review 133:A shabby and overpriced hotel.
Review 134:Location near the main train station, tolerable breakfast.
Review 135:The bathroom smelled moldy and Ned's a facelift!
Review 136:The large down pillow
Review 137:The staff were so nice and welcoming!
Review 138:On Sunday night the road outside was quite noisy. Monday night was fine though.
Review 139:Very convenient location, near to Hauptbahnhof.
