Reviews for Belhurst Castle
Review 1:Belhurst Castle is a lovely place and we returned for our third visit over the years! In the past we've stayed in the Castle but age now requires an elevator so we chose a room in the attached inn - it was very large with a fantastic Jacuzzi!!! Dinner at Edgar's was delicious, as usual, and served with perfection, as was breakfast! We hope to return soon! Highly recommended especially to turn a special occasion dinner into an overnight!
Review 2:not enough staff, poor quality food (even in the fine dining restaurant), shabby rooms, in need of update, strange smell that overpowered all food and drink
Review 3:the location was very nice, the room had a good view over the lake
Review 4:The room was a poor layout, having a large Jacuzzi taking up prime space, with only one easy chair in the room. The room lockset was loose and the sink was poorly grouted in. Dining at Edgars was a bad experience from the time the hostess was unfriendly continuing through the poor quality but expensive food. The fish was just OK, the veggies were uncooked and the polenta hard as a rock. Service was slow even with only a few others dining.
Review 5:The location on Seneca Lake and the old castle. Also we have dined and stayed at the Belhurst over the past 30 years.
Review 6:When checking in, the clerk was on the phone quoting a midweek rate $100 less than the rate I paid on Booking.com. my room was prepaid back in August so I did not question it. Rates should be more straight forward whether on the phone or on the web.
Review 7:Very friendly staff, very clean. Awesome hotel!
Review 8:The fire place was not lit. For the price I did not think arbourite counters were appropriate. The floor entrance to the hotel was dirty.
Review 9:Food was excellent along with service in the dinning room
Review 10:Didn't like the price, especially being from Canada. A little high. meals wonderful and reasonable, it was a once in a life time,,,bucket list experience.
Review 11:Loved the history...beautiful location
Review 12:Bed squeaked. No swimming.
Review 13:Beautiful property with a beautiful view from our room! Didn't even have to get out of bed to see the sun rise over the far side of the lake. Enjoyed eating on the patio in the evening and sitting around the firepit. Very restful, relaxing, and refreshing. Just what we needed!
Review 14:Room was not totally tied up, waste basket not emptied, old receipt in drawer, the jacuzzi drain could not be closed. The elevator floor had sticky dirty foot print in the evening and had not been cleaned the next morning.
Review 15:Location, property style, view, friendly staff, food, wine tasting
Review 16:It was a beautiful room with a view of the lake. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were cheerful, helpful, and easily accessible. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others! (the Vinifera Inn).
Review 17:Beds & pillows uncomfortable. No comfortable outside seating area. Staff did not seem that knowledgeable although courteous. We booked through booking.com and never had a booking fee before. Imagine my surprise of a $30/ day charge!
Review 18:Restaurant was excellent
Review 19:We were in the Vinifera Inn which is the "new" side. There was mold in the shower and the A/C is an old unit that blows directly onto the bed. The TV was a very old model.
Review 20:The property is beautiful. The winery and Stonecutters restaurant are also good. The rooms are another story.
Review 21:The staff was very young and not professional. Most questions were answered with blank smiles. Also at 10:00 pm all the bars close.
Review 22:The location is beautiful and the castle is stunning with its old woodwork and history.
Review 23:just disappointed that the broken make-up mirror in bathroom was never fixed during our 3-day stay. the little refrig' "froze" liquids...not just cool.
Review 24:the lovely grounds and shaded lawn by the lake
Review 25:Had to ask for washcloths and bath mat daily. Also asked for newspapers daily and didn't receive. Room lacked simple things like a towel bar and soap dish. But really mad about a service fee. I thought booking.com had none!
Review 26:Location and outside grounds.
Review 27:Tiny TV that was too far away from bed (which was the only place to watch from)
Review 28:Jacuzzi was easily accessible, all options of the room were clean and worked well
Review 29:The dinner at Edgars was not very good. Some of the furnishings were past their prime. For instance, one of the lampshades had a hole in it. One window had no screen. Otherwise we were pleased.
Review 30:It's a very nice place, with a good staff, and the room was good, with nice views.
Review 31:One window was missing a screen, but that was promptly addressed by maintenance as soon as I reported it.
Review 32:We were in the Vinifera Building. All rooms have a lake view that is beautiful. The staff was extremely professional, pleasant, and responsive. We loved the spacious bathroom and the expanse of the actual room. The mini-bar area with a fridge was a plus as were the in-room Jacuzzi and double-head walk in shower. A fabulous room in a stunning setting.
Review 33:Liked the entire experience. I WILL be back to Belhurst.
Review 34:dinner at edgars was wonderful, and I travel a good bit for my job and dine out repeatedly, often fine dining with customers.
Review 35:We were disapointed with the full menue dinner. The meal was overpriced for the quality of the meal. The salad and soup were very good, the entries were disappointing and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel.
Review 36:The location and grounds were beautiful. The castle is very historic and enjoyable.
Review 37:The shower was way to small for us and no counter space. We are also used to having a workout facility on site.
Review 38:The rooms are very private with no noise from other guests.
Review 39:Our room (Vinifira) was a bit outdated. The bed is do for a new mattress, the fireplace would not light unless a member of the staff came to light it, and there were metal plates on the wall where something had once hung. Also it seemed a bit strange that we were given big bars of Zest soap instead of soap from the spa. It just did not match the luxury we expected.
Review 40:Beautiful location
Review 41:Fireplace and TV not working but staff fixed right away and gave monetary credit. Wine in tasting not best in Geneva area.
Review 42:Rooms were very nice. Food in restaurants was excellent. Staff attentive.
Review 43:One side of the bed was noisy!
Review 44:The woodwork is beautiful , the fire place at Edgar 's and the armor suit a great touch to the Castle atmosphere. And when you can book a water view room, do so!
Review 45:Seating could have been more comfortable.
Review 46:The room was very clean, spacious and accommodating. The Jacizzi and large bathroom and shower were exceptional. Also enjoyed the fireplace.
Review 47:The castle is a beautifully romantic getaway. The staff was unbelieveably friendly and helpful. Couldn't have picked a better spot for a weekend getaway.
Review 48:There should be access to wifi in the rooms and I wish that there was a fitness facility on the premise.
Review 49:We loved the beautiful setting and the history behind the building.
Review 50:Service in the restaurant was slow. The server did say that he was in training. We had a fireplace in our room that appeared to need a valve key to operate it. We could not find it and did not call the desk about it. We would have liked the opportunity to choose to use or not use it.
Review 51:Setting, ambience, food quality.
Review 52:Quality of food in main dinning so so. My wife had a steak that was suspect. Quality inconsistent. Stonecutters causal fair great. Rooms decor worn, dated. Old tv and no wifi
Review 53:Location Character of the castle Wine tasting Fire pit with a glass of wine Rooms spacious Jacuzzi tub fire place
Review 54:We thought we booked a room at the castle to find our room in a tired old motel style facility adjacent to it. When I brought this to the staffs attention I was treated like a poor cousin because I booked the room through booking.com. I was told that the next time I was to contact them directly if I wanted a room at the castle because they do not release castle rooms through your site. Nothing on my confirmation indicated this and we were extremely disappointed. I pointed this out to staff and although they acknowledged this, we continued to be treated as insignificant. We have enjoyed better quality accommodation at half the price and treated far more courteously. There won't be a next time!
Review 55:The staff was not very helpful with area attractions. They were curt. I didn't get a feeling that we were valued customers. There was nothing complimentary, i.e. continental breakfast. For the cost of staying at the "castle", which, by the way isn't really staying at the "castle", I think they should offer a comp. breakfast. We had one sleepless night because the upstairs room occupants were having sex and the bed was apparently old and squeaky. I told the manager they should invest in better beds. The gift shop employee was not friendly at all. She even rolled her eyes when I asked her to wrap a purchase in tissue paper.
Review 56:The view of the water.
Review 57:it took a very long time to get our breakfasts, which did not look appealing at all. Very expensive but low quality breakfasts. Also flies were flying around.
Review 58:great view-- you can see the lake from the room The Castle is interesting
Review 59:Stonecutters food could have been better. No Drunken Mussels but also no replacement
Review 60:The location on the lake, the lake view rooms, the shop, the salon, the wine tasting were all what we liked. Perfect for my 50th birthday celebration as a family of 4. Special. Somewhat disappointed in Stonecutters Aug12. No Drunken Mussels& no replacement for them either
Review 61:The fact that the reservation had been made for the wrong day.
Review 62:Food and service were excellent in both restaurants. Beautiful view from room. Management quickly resolved question about the correct date for our reservation.
Review 63:Better television would have been nice! We weren't impressed with our meal at the StoneCutter restaurant, had the burger with the egg, bacon and cheese,,,,shared with my husband and we both agreed that it was tasteless. My husband also had soup and salad, wasn't too impressed with curry soup, although, to be fair, he hasn't had much dining experience with curry foods. Small comment here, being an avid gardener, I found myself dead-heading all of the flowering plants I encountered, perhaps your gardening staff is kept busy doing other things!
Review 64:Location wonderful; peaceful to just sit and enjoy Seneca Lake. The room we had was beautiful, next time will try to book a room in the original "Castle" for more ambiance. Food in Edgars was fabulous! All staff very hospitable and attentive. Grounds beautiful.
Review 65:The bed was not comfortable. Could not both sit at the end of the bed without mattress lifting up at the other end.
Review 66:Spacious room with beautiful lake views, jacuzzi, step in shower and fireplace.
Review 67:We really enjoyed our stay at Belhurst! The castle was very unique and the location was very serene and beautiful. Our room was very comfortable with many thoughtful extras. We highly recommend Belhurst and would love to stay here again!
Review 68:We had no complaints!
Review 69:We stayed in one of the newer rooms and had a large room with a lake view. Everything was clean and comfortable. We ate dinner at the pub restaurant and had a very good meal.
Review 70:Room could use a facelift. TV is quite old. There was a VHS tape cassette about the history of the place, but no VHS tape player! Dinner service was very slow.
Review 71:The room was spacious and the view of the lake was great. Well maintained grounds. Friendly reception staff. Interesting gift shop with a good selection of Belhurst wines.
Review 72:Service in casual restaurant, cost
Review 73:Location, jacuzzi tub, and fireplace in room
Review 74:the surprise booking fee that was charged until I strenuously objected
Review 75:its an old favourite, unique.
Review 76:Loud loud loud ventilation system Shower very weak
Review 77:View of Lake Stonecutters
Review 78:Everything was good!
Review 79:Loved everything about the facility .... Room, lounge, staff, winery!
Review 80:Dinner was over priced and over salted. Breakfast was the opposite, healthy and tasty at a reasonable price.
Review 81:Facility, Wine Tasting, grounds,location

Review 83:Room sound isolation is not good enough
Review 84:Great lake and castle view Wine tasty is excellent Bath tube in room is awesome
Review 85:It was a dream vacation. Everything was perfect!
Review 86:We had to park a good distance from the hotel entrance.
Review 87:View of the lake from our room was beautiful. The gas fireplace made the room very special.
Review 88:Large well appointed rooms, super gardens and excellent breakfast service
Review 89:Earlier breakfast
Review 90:Friendly staff. Food was excellent!
Review 91:The beauty of the hotel and the Geneva area. We would definitely come back.
Review 92:Dining at Edgar. The ambiance of the castle. The friendliness of the staff.
Review 93:Bedding needs an upgrade. the pillows were like sleeping on rocks!!

Review 102:The mattress was too soft.
Review 103:The setting is perfect and romantic.
Review 104:Staff very pleasant. Good service.
Review 105:Linen were really worn out. Shower courtain had a big stain. There were some mildew stains in the shower,
